Ah ok. In my head I was not counting the wings. Pretty much every dragon ever depicted in any fantasy work looks like this one (except maybe the hair). I was picturing like 2 sets of legs and one set of arms with the description in the book kind of like this one.
-
Did you see the illustration in the book? It has the hair and beard but was kind of bummed that it did not show the extra set of limbs.
-
She was referring to creating anti-investiture.
-
Yep and he used Aons plus the whole "invitation and adoption" of a select group phrase it's pretty clear. Awesome tie back to Elantris!
-
Hoping we find out about this in SP 3 which may take place before this one chronologically. Would be a fun tie in if we do. This is my guess too. It would be really fun if Brandon adds a scene in the sequel with Hoid starting to tell this story.

Lost Metal Full Book Reactions (Cosmere Edition)
StormingTexan replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
First off I do not disagree with your other points about TLM. The interesting thing is I think these things are going to bother long time readers more than newer fans. As long time readers we have seen the Cosmere slowly develop over decades so this more "in the forefront" approach seems more jarring in my opinion. Newer fans will not go through this. I will say I thought Brandon did a much better job balancing this in SP1. There are a ton of Cosmere tidbits in that book but the difference to me was all the Cosmere stuff was directly relevant to the story unlike some of the things in TLM that felt more like info dumps. This may be due to the fact Brandon said he wrote the SP books as all pretty much stand alones and feels like they are good entry points for new readers. So I am hopeful Brandon can and will balance this better going forward. Honestly after reading the first SP I am pretty hyped about the other two coming this year. On this point I am also hopeful as he did push out SA5 more than a year I believe and has made comments that he knew he needed more time to make sure this was right so I think he is cognizant of some of the fans concerns on quality over quantity. -
Yes and I know the counter argument would be that she could have gone somewhere completely un-inhabited but how many people really want to do that? Especially if you are as powerful as she is. Being that powerful is pointless if you do not have someone to project that power on. You still want some people around (in her case to curse). I think it is as simple as what you stated. This planet is backwater enough that she thought she would be the most powerful entity there and has some fun stuff to play with helping her create her fortress of solitude. She seemed to be in a pseudo cold war with Xisis and thought she had taken the fangs out of Hoid until she didn't and she takes off which is kind of funny since Hoid was essentially bluffing.
-
It was from RoW Ars Arcanum. Pretty sure she was referring to Xisis.

So since Xisis is obviously the same as Foil mentioned by Khriss I wonder what Frost real name is (assuming it is a nickname similar to Foil).

Tress of the Emerald Sea Reactions (Cosmere Edition)
StormingTexan replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I really liked this book and you can really tell that Brandon wrote it just to have fun writing something which was really refreshing. I will say at times Hoid's narrating grated on me a bit which is odd to me because I usually like the more whimsical characters like Lopen, Wayne and Lift. It may have just been a little too much? I already feel like I need to re-read this which is a pleasant surprise because i have not felt that way with the last couple Cosmere books. Anyone else surprised how portable Elantrian magic is? We obviously saw this a bit in MBSH (although this made more sense to me being in the CR) and TLM but both of those had Dor in a bottle. Did I miss what Riina was using? Also whole new respect for Elantrian magic after these last two books. I admit Elantris has always been my least favorite Cosmere book but now I am getting pretty hyped about the sequels. I am really intrigued about Aethers even more now. Oh and the art in this was amazing. I loved how the spaceship was basically the SpaceX Starship proto. -
Tress of the Emerald Sea Reactions (No Cosmere)
StormingTexan replied to Chaos's topic in Tress of the Emerald Sea
This was a fun light read which is honestly nice to mix in every once in a while. It felt at times a little distracting as Hoid narrating it mainly the little nuggets he would throw out there for the fans but not a huge deal. Was awesome to see and get a good description of the Dragon. The sorceress reveal was pretty awesome too. -
I agree and really hope we get a SH2. It felt like LM either left us hanging on things that were brought up in previous books or added more questions (like who and how the BoM were made). There was obviously a ton of things going on during the 300 or so year in between era one and two. MB Era 2 is "in the future" relative to the published SA books.

PSA - The State of the Sanderson 2022 is up

I am listening to SP1 on Spotify and the quality and functionality is great. I had to open an account on Spotify to do this but not a big deal. -
Odd asymmetry at the end of OB (OB spoilers)
StormingTexan replied to Marabout's topic in Stormlight Archive
But he literally said the Orders as he was counting them. After this he sees Ash and Taln to make 9. The missing one is a Dustbringer but also weird because there would be two Lightweavers. -

She was not there. She was opening the Kholinar Oathgate to let the singers into Urithiru. So there was not a Dustbringer there that we know of. -

There has been discussion that Shalash will become a Dustbringer which makes since with her destroying art and you know the nickname Ash. -
Do you read non-cosmere works?
StormingTexan replied to chongjasmine's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I really liked the Reckoners books except the 3rd. I tried the first two Cytoverse but I just couldn't get in to it. I may finish this at some point. I liked the Legion books too but they are a lot different than his normal stuff. I read the Alcatraz books with my kids they are fun but for sure geared towards younger readers. I have not read Rithmatist and at this point will probably just wait until when/if the sequel is written. I've pretty much read all the short stories and liked them all especially Perfect State. To me this is where Brandon really shines on his non-Cosmere books the short stories. I would not consider anything I have read that Brandon wrote bad obviously the Cosmere books are just his best work. -
PSA - The State of the Sanderson 2022 is up

Yes I found this part interesting. I'm a big audio book listener and I knew they had pretty much cornered the market but I did not know they were paying creators so poorly. -
Consider that fortunate lol. It wasn't terrible but he did this weird "surfer guy" accent for one of the main characters that drove me crazy. Not that it matters now but the Alyssa Bresnahan version is on Audible it is just hidden underneath the Graphic Audio version a bit. I actually just bought it for the $7.49 price since I had the Kindle version and have been meaning to re-listen to it. Thanks your question prompted me to look!
-
Yes unfortunately neither of those are narrated by Kramer and Reading. The Warbreaker one I have was narrated by James Yaegashi (was not a fan of his narration). There is a Graphic Audio version which can get expensive and then looks like a newer regular version narrated by Alyssa Bresnahan who I have not listened to before but looks like she gets good reviews. I was not crazy about the narrator for Elantris either but it was better than the original Warbreaker narrator. Easy though to get spoiled with Kramer and Reading!

PSA - The State of the Sanderson 2022 is up

Thought the exact same thing. I always thought of this as one of the core series of the Cosmere and it now seems to be demoted to a maybe side project. This was surprising. -
I think your opinion on this will change when you finish RoW. I will admit there is a good chunk of OB that really dragged for me but the ending kind of makes up for it. A lot of the things you are concerned about get resolved in RoW in my opinion and I think will be even more ramped up in SA5. Things get introduced that I think will tip the scales of balance.
-
Wear out or get crazier? I thought it was the latter. Spren do not wear out but when a KR gets killed you start over from the beginning. Loose all the training and previous oath levels plus just the process of a Spren bonding with a new KR and the emotional damage it does to them loosing their KR. To me it is part of the balance. KR are more powerful but when one dies it hurts their ranks more. The balance is the issue. I cant remember if it was in OB or RoW but Kaladan spells out the issue pretty clearly.
-
Yeah I wouldn't say more dangerous but 3 KR deaths is way more detrimental to their war effort than the 30 or so temporary Fused deaths to theirs. In a way it is all pretty balanced and that is the problem and why we see the new thing in RoW (trying to keep it spoilerish free for the OP).
