well bear in mind that the nicrosil minds wehave seen so far store the ability to use investiture. ie as a nicrosil ferring you could store the ability to use nicrosil ferruchemy. so it seems more likely that you would be able to store the surgebinding abilities rather than the stormlight itself. though obviously, per the above answers, there may be things we don't know about nicrosil ferruchemy that would allow it.

What are you playing right now?

it is also probably the shortest of them. most of those games take a long time, and I know I gnerally haven't had the time for them recently. -
I'm OK with the SA romances, but I'd agree that Siri-Susebron is stronger than them. Elend-Vin never worked for me though.

oathbringer [OB] Why hasn't Cultivation helped at all?
Dunkum replied to braxton91's question in Cosmere Q&A
to add on to what Calderis said, at this point Odium has already shattered 4 shards, so it makes sense that Cultivation would want to keep herself hidden. in a one on one figth against him, she may not be able to win. this means that anythign she does do has to be circumspect. -
Last Jedi had its share of problems, but I agree with your first sentence nonetheless. I'd also add that I really liked the long term chase scene was really cool. Rogue one is great, but also could have been better. there are a few places where the seams show through, like the way the pilot (brodi or whatever his name was) goes from being functionally braindead to main character. but overall very good.

there are several clustered together in the heart, so you might be able to do it there.

about midway thorough Midnight Tides in my Malazan reread and I may have to take a break after thos one. I can feel myself burning out. At the very least I may need to switch to lighter fare for a bit before I get into the next one.

1. all shards have some level of foresight, but some are better at it than others. Preservation has much better foresight than Ruin does, due to the nature of the shards - basically the ability to preserve is heavily dependent on the ability to predict future problems, while the ability to destroy does not necessarily need that; so Preservtaion's foresight is better than Ruin's. 2. Based on all the available information, it is not clear that Preservation didn't know. my read of the first era Mistborn books is that he considered the possibility of his death to be acceptable in light of the ultimate gains that would come out of it - i.e. the end of Ruin as an independent entity. in fact, he may have considered his death inevitable, in which case the influence of his shard would have pushed him toward an option like the one that we ultimately got - since any option where Ruin was still around, but Preservation was completely gone would have been antithetical to the concept of Preservation.

Magic systems develop naturally based on the World and the shardic influence. So for example the metallic arts on scadrial are the way they are partly because they are on scadrial and partly because it was invested by Ruin and Preservation. If there had been different shards or if those shard had invested a different planet, then the magic system would be different. That's just a bit of clarification on how the magic systems form. Access to the magic systems generally requires a connection with the shard and/or the world. You can't be born an allomancer unless you are scadrian, and people bron n other worlds don't start out with a breath like Nalthians do. However this connection can often be made artificially: lerasium can turn someone into a mistborn, regardless of where they were born, and anyone can receive a breath and start doing awakening. once the connection is made and you have access to the magic system, that generally doesn't leave you, so you can still use that magic on other worlds (Sel is a big exception to this because of how its magic works - it doesnt travel well). I'm being a bit vague and generic here, because the rules vary a little bit form system to system, but in general this is mostly correct.

Can anyone move a planet if they have ascended and are on that planet?
Dunkum replied to Invocation's question in Cosmere Q&A
do we even have evidence that that restriction is universal? I thought it applied to ruin and preservation due to their specific intents. seems like Cultivation or Ambition, say, may be less restricted in that regard -
My personal low point will always be Path of Daggers for reasons that are maybe slightly spoilery if I mention it:

doesn't help that their CEO or whoever it was in that video of theirs has 0 charisma. for that matter, the format of their video is pretty terrible too: guy talks for a while, with terribly delivered puns cut to unrelated ads for upcoming stuff cut back to same boring guy saying he is excited in a dull monotone cut to clips of a bunch of games that I don't see for long enough to get a real impression of, cut back to guy introducing other guy. cut to new guy doing roughly the same thing but exclusively for smash bros. smash bros looks cool and all, but the strategy of "include everyone we have ever used before" sounds desperate, and it certainly didnt warrant taking half the presentation. -
given that some of the spren on Roshar predate the shattering/we know some of them were created by Adonalsium directly, this is almost certainly what that WoB is referring to
-
To add on, this is not really an accurate picture. The shards were part of an immensely powerful godlike being, called Adonalsium. At some point it was shattered...though we don't have a whole lot of detail on that event itself, we know that there were 16 pieces. each piece, the shards, contains a vast amount of power, as well as a sort of piece of Adonalsium's mind. This is why the shards are named the way they are (Ruin, Preservation, Endowment, Honor, etc) they represent a fragment of this god-like mind focused on one aspect or intent. We also know that those intents eventually shape their holders: Ruin used to be a nice person until he picked up that particular shard and was influenced by it. If memory serves, the only representation we have seen of a free shard available to be picked up (as opposed to one being actively held by someone already) shows them as basically balls of energy, not anything so simple as an actual physical object.

Well the shards have a sort of immense amount of power, so it is not like most of them would need/want to hide. In the case of Devotion and Dominion, yes Odium did splinter them (and at least 2 others that we are aware of) In answer to your original question, as noted most of the magic systems are portable, but in some cases the effort you need to make to port them might be difficult. For instance we know it is difficult to take a Spren off of Roshar, and we know that some other worlds don't have the freely available investiture that Roshar has in Stormlight, so surgebinding off world would be complicated. there is nothing preventing it, but you may have to bring your own fuel. The Metallic arts from Mistborn, on the other hand are fully portable. You don't even have to bring your own metals, you can use metal from the world you end up on, as long as you are sure of its purity.

[OB] Is there a connection here or just a sneaky joke by Sanderson?
Dunkum replied to Slimy_Slider's question in Cosmere Q&A
Plus all the Aons are 2 syllables. Kii is not pronounced like Ki, it'd be more like Ki-i -
Could also be a reference to the Shards speaking through the metal, the way Ruin does in Era 1. Maybe they are looking for people being directly influenced by Shards in some way. Though I suppose that only really applies or spikes...
-
Breath is stickier than other types of investiture though. I can't find the WoB on that, though I know we have one, but it is part of the reason why it doesn't just leak out of people like stormlight does. So a Larkin could probably feed on breath in theory, but it seems like it would be harder to extract than say stormlight

In that case, I've got some bad news for you about both Oathbringer and the Roshar Novella Edgedancer...

Suppose I'll second this. I greatly prefer physical books, but the fact that my Library has a much greater selection of ebooks than physical ones means I have had to relax my standards a bit. that said, when it is nice out, I like being able to relax in my hammock with an actual book and enjoy the weather, which I can't really do with ebooks because I read them on my laptop, which is a bit bulky/fragile for the hammock as to an actual controversial opinion...I guess I would say that the entire genre of first person shooters is extremely overrated. just about the worst games I have ever played, and its dominance recently is part of the reason I don't buy new systems.

exactly. he basically had access to near infinite ferruchemical health (I guess it would technically be limited based on how much gold he had access to, but it was still an enormous amount), which he could access by tapping or burning, depending on what he was doing and how much health he needed to get quickly.
-
Compounding is when someone has both allomancy and ferruchemy for the same metal. when that happens, they have the ability to burn their own metalmind. When they do this, instead of getting the normal Allomantic power from that metal, they instead get the Ferruchemic power. However because the power for Allomancy comes from outside of them, they can access more of the Ferruchemical power than they originally put in (about 10 times as much, in general). They can then store this power back into a new metalmind, which they can also burn, essentially granting them access to infinite power. for a concrete example, imagine a pewter compounder (both pewter allomancy and ferruchemy). if thye store 50% of their strength for an hour, then normally they would be able to spend an hour at 150% strength later by tapping the metalmind. Instead, if they burn that metalmind, and immediately store what they get into a new one, then their new metalmind will have 10 hours worth of 50% strength. and if they repeat this, the new new metalmind will have 100 hours worth etc.

Just finished off Abercrombie's First Law trilogy. There were parts I liked, but overall I found it somewhat unsatisfying. Need to find something else to read now I'm done with it though.
