We have WoBs on this. the short version is that the shards all started out at equal strengths, though doing things like investing themselves into planets or creating life mdifies that some. as far as Sazed, yes, he is about twice as strong as the other shards, but he has trouble acting due to the intent of his shard(s).

What are you playing right now?

Snow may actually be better than just plain cold. Snow is a pretty good insulator, and you can build walls from it if there is enough, which can keep out the wind. between those 2 things, a little snow cave may be warmer than some poorly built shack in terms of winter survival, as long as you have something to lift you off the ground when you sleep. -
He has a stash of it from the final empire era that he hasn't run through yet, but beyond that it is not clear.

decided it was about time for an Elantris reread

there is some of that, but given how incompetent most of the characters in the series are, they are kind of right to think that way. -

Min was alright, and Moiraine got better. I did like Egwene, but only towards the end of the series. early on I couldn;t stand her. The Aiel wise ones and Cadsuane were also generally competent and thus a lot more tolerable than most of the women. Oh, and Verin was pretty good. -

true, mostly my point was that it isn't just a fantasy trope -
they have their moments, but the quality does drop dramatically.

this was more the "Sea rushing in over winterfell's walls", referring to the coming ironborn, and he says something along the lines of "but the sea is far from here, so that can't happen" I don't feel like looking up the exact quotes, but it bothered me so much because prophecy is 100% always metaphorical. that goes back at least as far as the book of Genesis, where Joeseph interprets the Pharaoh's dreams. -

in one of the chapters where he works with Jojen on his green dreams, I get so frustrated with him because he tries to interpret his dream literally, and prophecy never works that way. -
well, we get the whale's entire life story, which is fun. also the flowers get a callback in a later book, and while satisfying, it just isn't all that interesting. plus it removes any element of mystery to them.

somewhat, but his perspective is skewed some by his age, and it can get annoying. -
The whale is more interesting. speaking of Dirk gently, have you seen any of the BBC series with that name? I'd say "based on it", but since the tv show bears pretty much no resemblance to the books, that wouldn't really be accurate. I'm enjoying it, but it really is a completely different thing than the books.

What is the second DLC like? I havent had a chance to look it up. I didn't buy the DLC earlier because I figured I at least wanted to know what both pieces were like before I made that purchase. -
I'll second this. there are 2 or 3 books I can think of where I couldn't get into it the first time I tried it, but on setting it down and picking it up again a while later, I found myself really enjoying it.

this seems like a pretty reasonable guess, though given that an awakened object must be given a command, I wonder if the overwriting of the power migth not end up being related to the command instead somehow (not sure how that would work, necessarily, just tryign to think of other possibilities)

this sound like about the reaction I had. with the secondary complaint that the Vord make for boring enemies.

I haven't read much of Dresden files, and I didn't care for Codex Alera very much. I did like The Aeronaut's Windlass a lot though. certainly on this board I have seen people praise lightbringer while dismissing the Night Angel series. so in my experience, he is better known for lightbringer

i'm pretty sure someone earlier said they were already on their second read before my copy even arrived, in fact

Picked up a virtual console version of Majora's Mask and started on that a few days ago. I don't get much time to play usually, so I haven't gotten very far. also, embarrassingly, I already had to look up some hints just to get to the first dungeon (I had pieced together most of what I needed to do, but didn't think to go talk to one person that I needed to talk to). still overall I like it. -

I'll third the anti-Denna camp. I have never understood why she is supposed to be so great. for a different series, I fnd Rand from Wheel of Time to be wholly intolerable. it starts around the 3rd book, but really escalates a bit later on. -
I picture him looking something like the charcater Reddas form Final Fantasy 12
-
I do this constantly, even in places where I know I am wrong, I still do it: despite knowing that pretty much all the main characters in The Wizard of Earthsea have complexions similar to Native Americans, I always picture them as white in my head.

the problem is that that isn't the definition of a hemalurgic spike. a hemalurgic spike is something that does what you are saying using hemalurgy, among other things, this will generally restrict it to being made of metal. if you found a way to do it using the Aon Dar or using Ferruchemy, or even using the spren bond, then what you have created might achieve the same ends, but it is not a hemalurgic spike. that is sort of like saying a Television Show is anythign which tells you a story episodically. Webcomics and book series fit that definition too, but they are completely different media.

allomancy derives its power from Preservation. Lerasium is a physical manifestation of Preservation's power. Atium, however is a physicl manifestation of Ruin's power. so in Preservation's magic system, Lerasium is sort of a key, granting access to it, while Atium is more restricted. on the other hand, in Hemalurgy, which is more closely associated with Ruin, Atium is a universal spike, able to hold any attribute. we don't know what lerasium does in hemalurgy, but it is probably more limited.
