  1. Sometimes, I really hate Dynamite.
  2. Erikson appears dangerously close to becoming an author that is constantly complaining about how people don't recognize his greatness.
  3. I don't know, do you? It's very bland. The Switch does not offer a whole lot of exciting content you can't get anywhere else (Mario Odyssey being the once exception). All the other good stuff is either on other systems in a better graphical form or its a lesser version of a better game. (Legend of Zelda on this system is just an inferior Monster Hunter ;)) Because of that (and because the new Monster Hunter won't be on it/ would be terrible on it) I can't justify paying full price for a gimmicky nostalgia machine. TL;DR It doesn't have Monster Hunter.
  4. Eww! Video!
  5. Nintendo is currently awful, but if you must, DS because that has Monster Hunter.
  6. I just had that. I have never shivered violently until a few days ago. For me, it lasted a couple days with Alka Seltzer cold and cough and sleep helping me the most.
  7. I've been skipping around in it. It's not told in a chronological way, so why should I read it sequentially?
  8. The Anatomy of Melancholy?
  9. I'm pretty much done with Tolkien in all his forms right now. It was a fun ride, plenty of memories, but we just grow apart! Also, I feel this is turning more into Tolkien parody than Tolkien adaptation. Kinda like what Smallville did to Superman.
  10. I'll get it tomorrow, but won't start it until next year! Mwahaha!
  11. The Pliocene Exile books by Julian May. It's a time travel portal, but everything else might as well be fantasy... and it is flipping fantastico! When it does it, His Dark Materials trilogy is at its best.
  12. I actually think this is a better idea. The receipt idea would require an overhaul of the point of sale software. Another idea might be that, like with gift cards, the code needs to be activated. But that also runs into infrastructure problems.
  13. With a Blu-ray, the product is shrink wrapped so the code used to get the digital copy can be protected. Books aren't shrink wrapped. I could walk into a book store, get the code and have a free digital book. That then means whoever ends up honestly buying it will have a worthless code. Those are a couple problems I can think of. Essentially, it means that having a bookstore structure to sell physical books is currently and woefully unable to handle your desire.
  14. I mean, sure... there was a Tribble that had a bomb in it, but I don't think they can be angry. They just don't like Klingons.
  15. My cat is a wizard!
  16. Methinks someone here is Catholic
  17. If you are struggling with Book 2 of Robin Hobbs' Assassin Trilogy, Book 3 is going to be impossible for you to get through. At this point, you have found out Hobbs is not for you and you can go on to other books. My controversial opinion? I don't believe in a Literary Canon. There is not a single book or author that "everyone should read." Not Shakespeare, not Tolkien, not To Kill a Mockingbird, not anything. Yes, some books influence others. However, you can enjoy, say, the Lion King just as well only knowing the general plot of Hamlet. Reading Hamlet won't improve your experience. Read Hamlet because it is Hamlet or not at all.
  18. Ah, Rothfuss... I almost bought The Name of the Wind right when it came out! I did not, and therefore have an enjoyable position of the Outsider in all of this! As much as I don't like the approach, it might be better overall if he took the Erickson approach: set the trilogy aside and work on something else. The pressure is getting to him, his fear of disappointing his fans is almost certain knowledge that he will disappoint his fans. He just needs to step away. This could mean the trilogy, like his precious Chaucer, will never be finished. That's a possibility he and his fans should accept.
  19. I suspect a "sort of resolution" He also might pull a Martin and decide he needs to write about what went on during the time skip and get stuck for 6 years
  20. I am currently reading the best book to be released this year.... KA: Dar Oakley in the Ruins of Ymr by John Crowley!
  21. The CODA is suppose to be written by Esslemont, right? It was never clear to me if it was suppose to be its own book or Assail.
  22. I don't want to say it's the Second Apocalypse of Malazan for fear of scaring you off forever... but it tends more towards that without the massive amounts of sexual violence. You taking a break is a good idea.
  23. He hates Sanderson, and rightfully so! Brandon is not that good a writer... take away his committee and he would be nothing, A BURNING NOTHING!
  24. @Briar King I mean... things don't line up in the core series, either. Erikson has always played it fast and loose with Malazan's reality... particularly when older beings are reminiscing or the narrator is taking creative license (like in the Kharkanus books or Toll the Hound). I also recall an interview where he said he didn't keep notes, re-read or put too much effort in being consistent with the Book of the Fallen.
