  1. I agree with @Kaymyth on one point: the covers are very generic fantasy genre fare. "Let's show a character or two with a background that kinda captures the mood of the book! " *rolls eyes* To be sure, the American covers do the exact same thing, which is why I said there's no reason to prefer the Polish versions over the American ones. But there is a reason to prefer the American Stormlight covers! Whelan is just waaaay better with the background landscape. It's actually a shame he probably is contractually obligated to feature characters prominently. If the landscapes were the focus, there would be no contest!
  2. But you can't ban me, Lord Moderator. I represent that one thing you've never been able to ban, no matter how hard you try. I am hope.
  3. @Ammanas Nah, I think I can out controversy you. I personally don't think the Polish Covers on any of the Sanderson books are that good... let alone good enough to prefer them over other covers!
  4. The Ouroboros album by Ray LaMontagne
  5. @officiumdefunctorum it should be noted that there will be more Second Apocalypse books... Just something to keep in mind! I may try Abercrombie one of these days. I read his short story in Dangerous Women and was not impressed, so I have not picked up any of his novels.
  6. Pfft, I'm reading fantasy, not buying a speed metal album!
  7. Someone put nutmeg and a pinch of cinnamon in some coffee, called it pumpkin spice, sells it in the fall and makes millions. It is essentially adding pumpkin pie flavor to everything you can.
  8. @mattig89ch Yeah, I hear X-Wing is fun, but if you don't have a local game store with time set aside for people to come and play it would be quite the waste of money!
  9. Have you seen the Yellow Sign?

  10. Girls are grooooss! *Farts whilst picking nose* What other gross thing can I include in this post?
  11. Sigh... looks like Elantris sequels are getting pushed into the future...again... I can't imagine what you Warbreaker fans are going through! Or are you mostly stoic because Nightblood has kinda dropped off the schedule indefinitely?
  12. @Mistrunner The key to handling overload is to "Triage". It's a sinister word associated with medics determining which wounded to treat on the battlefield! The idea is that you treat the most serious cases first, leaving the less serious cases for later and leaving the goners alone. Since you just started the year, you don't have any goners, yet! If I would propose a strategy: 1) Do not worry about "doing stuff for college" just yet. You can have it in the back of your mind, but you are just starting the year, getting a feel for it. You have plenty of time to "do the stuff". No need to let it bog you down now. 2) You can get help with Trigonometry in various places. This includes identifying peers that understand it, some personal research, and online help including but not limited to the Shard. This may require deep breaths and other such breathing exercises: learning Trigonometry, for whatever reason, tends to be frustrating. That's why I am not going to post anything about it yet, for I do not wish to confuse you before you have begun (for my part, I think I had about six formulas and a magical circle that helped me throughout my Trig studies. I do not know how relevant those would be in your situation... particularly the magical circle! Sounds neat, and it is, but I digress!) 3) Always practice your instruments. May not be as much as you want, but be sure to do it! 4) Be sure to have 'you' stuff. This includes rest, hydration and doing stuff that is fun for you. And playing with cats helps too!
  13. Here's some ammo for your theory: That piece of info came from the following post: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/4258-questions-for-seattle-signing-1014/?do=findComment&comment=68628 As far as proof: I do not know if there is much in the way of saying it is more plausible than the Nightwatcher being a splinter of Cultivation, but it is certainly plausible.
  14. Gordon is my spirit animal!....er, spirit tank engine!
  15. Distance is relative. So, on Earth, the meter was developed first and foremost as being "one ten millioneth the distance between the North Pole and the Equator." The idea being that using the Earth as the frame of reference instead of, say, a king's foot, anyone smart and able to would calculate the same distance anywhere in the world. What turns out to be helpful with the metric system in science is the conversion between units, but that's been covered all ready here. Between planetary systems, units would still need to be converted, and I imagine units in the Shadesmar would be different as well.
  16. I think this is key. Does the properties of aluminum overwhelm and block another metal's characteristic in the direct vicinity? We all ready know that metal in flesh tends to be much more difficult to push or pull using Allomancy, so what if aluminum is encased in another metal? Does that mean that it can not be pushed or pulled because that metal is touching aluminum?
  17. When you aren't upset about the wait for Winds of Winter or Doors of Stone because of how long it is taking for an Elantris sequel to appear!
  18. @AngelEy3 I have found the more experienced you become, the better you are at choosing what you would like. Congratulations, you are now at that point!
  19. Shoot, we still aren't prepared for the shadows cast by the conjunction of ethereal spheres! I'll have to rush my esoteric preparations and use less than stellar ingredients for my alchemy.... Oh, wait... THAT thing! *cough* excuse me...uh... Mazel tov! Here's Asimov!
  20. Don't worry, it'll grow on you...sooner or later!
  21. Yep, we don't have to do anything environmentally conscious if it's all part of God's Plan!
