  1. And it's your right to defend a monster.
  2. My opinions of him are based almost entirely on his own writing in lots and lots of articles. So between a random internet stranger claiming to know him and Mr. Ed himself, I'll take the evidence from the horse's mouth.
  3. He is a Mormon celebrity. As such, many mormon parents and youth feel he is a "safe bet" for reading books that don't break guidelines. Orson Scott Card was viewed much the same way when I was growing up. Main difference is that Card is a terrible writer and awful human being. Another interesting tidbit? There are about as many atheists here as there are Mormons
  4. Speaking of cats named after Malazan characters, here's Quick in another fine mess.
  5. In General Discussion? You bet that's one of the points. This isn't Thanksgiving with the family where religion and politics are off limits, this is where a debate on almost any topic can occur provided the proper decorum and it follows site's rules.
  6. Firefight was kinda...*looks around for ambushing Reckoners fans* bad. Particularly coming off of reading Words of Radiance. I tend to take a break from the book causing me trouble. Sometimes, it just is not its time, yet. You can try reading something else that seems more exciting or what you want right now. Sometimes, short stories help me a lot, too.
  7. Considering that people can walk the same path as that character using the book as a guide, that is incredibly impressive!
  8. Read some James Joyce. His books take place in a mystical lost city called Dublin in the magical land of Ireland.
  9. This is the most important question for me! I'm wondering if they are going to be coy about it at first. Cosmere stuff would be exciting for the fans but might discourage a wider audience.
  10. The Emperor's Soul. It's the best written and does not require reading thousands of pages in order to establish character connections or world building for the writing to be effective. And, unlike his other "standalones", this book actually stands alone. It's a complete experience whether you stop there or check out his other work. More then any other Sanderson book, it does not rely on sequels to expound on its themes and mysteries or prequels to set up stakes and pay offs or supplemental novels/stories/WoB to truly "get it."
  11. As if half of the millions of adults out there have any idea what they are doing
  12. What an odd thing to say! The consensus seems to be fatigue of the Star Wars variety. It has not even been a year since Last Jedi and a movie on Han Solo does not open up the universe enough to generate sufficient interest.
  13. I have recently come to the conclusion that the N64 was the last great Nintendo console. Now, it seems like they mostly deal in nostalgia and gimmicks. Kinda like Rock Band or Guitar Hero: somewhat wildly successful in the short term, but no real staying power unless they jealously guard some of their decades old intellectual property (which Pokemon isn't one of them! :O) The last Nintendo games I played were on the 3DS (despite the above criticism, Nintendo has always had the best handheld consoles) were Pokemon X and Monster Hunter Generations.
  14. 1) Black Panther 2) Guardians of the Galaxy 3) Iron Man (that ending!) 4) Captain America: Winter Soldier 5) Doctor Strange
  15. 1) Thanos is a manifestation of a widely spread and historical belief on population control. What he is resolving is what he views as the immediate issue, not the possibility of it recurring. That's because, in his mind, if you don't solve the immediate problem now there won't be a chance to solve the potential recurring problem. 2) The directors said Valkyrie is alive. That's all we know, there's no indication of that in the movie. 3) In the comics, Gamora's soul was in the Soul Stone once, so that's a possibility.
  16. For a little bit, yes. I say a good week is enough time to give folks an opportunity to see it.
  17. The main issue with the cliffhanger is they started saying "Nah, it's a complete movie experience!" And though it may technically be true, it's quite clear the story is not over and more is to come. Much like Brandon's "stand alone novels."
  18. There's also the connotation that money is exchanged for the express purpose of getting the, in this case, food. So "I ordered a Big Mac" will mean "I have paid for a Big Mac and am waiting for it to be made and given to me per contractual agreement." Whether or not you feel superior does not enter into it, you are, by paying the price, entitled to a Big Mac. So if you end up with a Quarter Pounder instead, pointing to a receipt and saying, "I ordered a Big Mac" is pointing out the contract terms were not met. Request may or may not contain the sense of contractual entitlement, so is not as pertinent to the situations where "order" is typically used.
  19. That's a great little observation... Or depressing, probably a little bit of both
  20. I saw Batman Ninja last night. It was awful. The visuals were terrible, the voice acting did not match with it and it was just painful to watch.
