  1. For real? And here I bought that game on release day like a sucker!
  2. There's no God but the Sun God! Ra, Ra, Ra! . A worthy endeavor, and achieved admirably! That Eternal Catcher Behind The Rows of Rye shall always be a light in the epistemological darkness of this era!
  3. I'm not surprised you're not impressed based on the comic. The IDW line might be fine on its own, but there main one requires some familiarity with at least The Light of the Jedi. So, why do I like it? It's fun, as Star Wars should be, and part of what's fun is that: 1) The Jedi are generally competent. 2) The Jedi Council is not portrayed as being the wise association of elders we are suppose to think they are in the prequels. 3) The villains are generally competent or threatening. So far, you know more about the Nihil than the Drengir which is fine. They are all also quite villainous, with the main villainous characters being irredeemable. 4) So far, the writing has been competent. Really, the only thing I don't like is that there will be a component of the High Republic geared towards young children. Which I don't understand how that can be with the stakes as they are, so I'll skip those.
  4. Some Mägo de Oz, because climate change will end us all: And I believe I read somewhere they started as a Rainbow cover band, which means you're ready to see In either event, I'm looking forward to visiting the Once society is
  5. Just had enough time to finish Into The Dark, and it was fun! As are the comics so far. So far, The High Republic is on good footing. Makes me think that a lot of the detractors are just absolute killjoys
  6. Well, it's certainly a Malazan book cover. You can tell it's Erikson because there are no boats!
  7. Yep. The latest book that can make an appearance here is Dawnshard, per an announcement I saw from chaos that was probably not a vivid dream.
  8. My understanding is that it's not Him-him, but like an avatar he can use that can move around the Cosmere. So if you killed Thaidakar, Kelsier would be pissed off back on Scadrial. And who wants to beat Hemalurgy is involved?
  9. Syl can potentially be threatened, I don't know about her actually getting killed, though. It also depends on whether or not Moash is going to be dealt with permanently in the next book or if he will survive into the second series. Because as it looks right now, Moash is going to be the one that attempts the deed.
  10. Nah, the other guy shot Jay and then himself because he thought Jay ran over his unfaithful wife. If I recall correctly, it was Daisy who ran over his wife.
  11. Jay Gatsby was trying to enter into higher class society in order to win his "unrequited" crush. Despite him making a fortune and publically displaying the trappings of wealth, he is never actually accepted as a member of high society and, as a result, is rejected by Daisy. He then gets shot because of some convoluted car pooling. Don't you shush me about spoilers, the modernists care not for your modern day genre conventions! In either event, the meaning of the novel is succinctly summarized in the last line, “So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.” Ponder on that and despair!
  12. Well, this time you're right...it is the best one yet!
  13. I'm fairly certain Alcatraz is finished, there's just publishing stuffs getting in the way. So which do you think will come first: Rithmatist 2 or Elantris 2?
  14. I do think there is plenty that can happen that would take only 10 days and give us a full Stormlight book. No, not everything will resolve, some plot points, like, say that involving a certain mad Herald or two, will bleed over into the second series. Really, the only thing that NEEDS to be resolved is the Contest of Champions and Kaladin saying the fifth oath. Everything else is either subservient to those two plot points, all ready resolved or can continue in the second series.
  15. Unpopular opinion: Adolin did more harm than good in clandestinely executing Sadeas.
  16. I wouldn't add Robert Jordan, but Jack London certainly has a place on the list!
  17. That Adolin flat out murdered a political rival? That that is pretty much assassination and sets a dangerous precedent? That Adolin acted out of passion and not out of compelled philosophical reasoning, so who is he going to kill next that won't deserve it?
  18. Absolutely agree. You would think these would be Scandals of Unusual Size, but instead we mostly get a bunch of hands-on-hips "oh, you" reaction followed by canned laughter, a guitar rift outro and producer credits on screen... What was I talking about again?
  19. Excuuuuuse me? We got John Steinbeck, William Faulkner, Ernest Hemingway, James Baldwin, Sinclair Lewis, Stephen Crane... And that's not including authors that have had profound effects on genre literature... despite being terrible writers themselves! Like H P Lovecraft, Stephen King... seriously, how could you forget Stephen King?! (Who probably fits best the OP's original question. I can't think of many American authors that approach King's decades long popularity) There's also Michael Crichton, Herman Melville, Nathanial Hawthorne, Ray Bradbury, Philip K Dick, Ursula K Leguin, on and on and on!
  20. Today, on WandaVision: LE GASP!!!1!
  21. Calm down, everyone. You're all missing the biggest point: both Stormlight Archive and Malazan Book of the Fallen are garbage! Pretentious jokes aside, one should not be attacked for their unpopular opinions in a topic about unpopular opinions. Now, you might think that OF COURSE, I would say that! I was after all attacked in this same topic and gave the same "le gasp!" response. That said, socially maladjusted responses are also not an excuse to be socially maladjusted as well! So everyone take deep breaths and walk away for a bit. Afterall, the neat thing about these unpopular opinions are that they don't matter... Brandon still has our money and is using it to fund his half cooked dreams of running a Hollywood-lite studio!
  22. Metallica? Classic rock? Forsooth! Behold! True classic rock in all its platonic gloury!
  23. Fans are a contentious bunch Waiting also appears to affect one's enjoyment. Later entries in multi volume series tend to have their lowest ratings right after they are released. I call this phenomena the Theorization Effect. Theorising goes through stages, starting from "I think this will happen" to "wouldn't it be cool if this happened" to "I hope this happens" to "this better happen". The longer the wait, the further along fans get on this path and the more likely they'll be disappointed. There's something similar with shipping, but that's a whole other mess.
  24. Critique of Practical Reason by Immanuel Kant
