  1. I've encouraged them to read far worse Speaking of which, I've bought Los abismos and Medio siglo con Borges by a Mario Vargas Llosa who you may recognize as the author of nothing because of your obsessions with your Harry Potter's and Percy Jackson's and Rothfusses that are incapable of writing third books
  2. Knowing how to properly wield brandy/cognac in baked goods or baked good adjacent items is an incredible eye opener. Recently, I made French Toast in the traditional manner (stale baguette, dip in milk then beaten egg, cook in butter). It was surprisingly good! Definitely a "we aren't wasting this stale bread, let's make a dessert" fare. Also, if you want to be snooty (and why wouldn't you?) you can call it pain perdu.
  3. I'll be starting that soon, but reading it because I'm not blind as a Milton yet!
  4. Rewatching Neon Genesis Evangelion. You know.... because it's Mental Health Awareness Month!
  5. Here's a silly refresher on Moon Knight and what he's all about:
  6. Speaking of Raya and the Last Dragon:
  7. @Draginon To your last point, it's an oversimplifcation/simplification of a legitimate concern. Basically, you might have, for example, a neurodivergent individual have an interaction with some cops who does not understand what compliance the cops are demanding, which (because the cops don't recognize what is going on and aren't trained in how to handle it) can turn into someone getting hurt. In the specific example, though, that is not what is happening. On the main portion of your post: hopefully this year will be better for you. It sounds like being able to have periodic change of scenery/habits helps you deal with the burdens of your normal life. Hopefully your mother will be supportive (at the very least in her way), she sounds like my father who simply does not have the capacity to think about what mental health is let alone address the mental health concerns of others.
  8. @Spren of Kindness Honestly, the Bad Batch episodes of the Clone Wars were some of my least favorite, so I had low expectations going into the series.
  9. It was fun, I have a couple minor quibbles, only one of which will likely be a quibble throughout the series.
  10. Stormlight Collectible Card Game.
  11. Would it fit your criteria? Meh. There are some moments, perhaps even books!, that'll fit the criteria, but I would mostly say "no". Erikson looooves his post-modern bs and that's everywhere and it kinda makes things befuddling. That said, Deadhouse Gates and Memories of Ice probably fit your criteria pretty well. So if you wanted to give it a try, breeze through Gardens of the Moon and then enjoy those two.
  12. I like the change from Captain Marvel 2 to The Marvels. It implies that Ms Marvel will get more than a bit part! Maybe Monica Rambeau as well (I hope so, anyway, I've always been a fan of her comicbook character)
  13. I think "publishing" reasons would be a more accurate assessment. That's in quotes because I seem to recall Shadows of Self and Bands of Mourning having a fairly quick turnaround. And yes, maybe the pandemic and Suez Canal crisises might slow things down, but honestly The Lost Metal was probably bought as soon as Brandon announced that he was writing it.
  14. Don't understand the first one, but the other three are spot on!
  15. I mean, it is a great song! And now I got a couple new to me artists to check out! Let's take this Twang Train up north in search of gold...Gord's Gold! Gordon Lightfoot also did some good covers, like this one of a Janis Joplin song, followed by one of Lightfoot's lesser known songs.
  16. @Hoiditthroughthegrapevine Well, those were delightful! Let's keep this twang train a-rollin'! "There's just gotta be a place up ahead where men ain't low-down and poker's played fair. If there weren't, what are all the songs about? I'll see y'all there. And we can sing together and shake our heads over all the meanness in the used-to-be."
  17. It seems like a Bruce Cockburn kinda night Sometimes with interpretive dance!
  18. How could I have forgotten about Emperor's Soul?! Yeah, Emperor's Soul is arguably the best thing Sanderson has written, and you don't have to read anything else beforehand! It's the very rare Sanderson Standalone! (Almost all the other "standalones" are clearly part 1 of a multipart story)
  19. I believe he said in the past this book would take something like 3-4 months to write. So, bets on when he'll finish? I'm going to say mid-August to complete everything.
  20. Streaming is better because it doesn't take up space!
  21. Elantris will eventually become important again, but honestly focus on Mistborn first (Era 1 then Era 2)
