  1. According to Coppermind, Iriali have mostly yellow eyes. Not sure if this is a bright, light yellow, or a dark, golden yellow. I concur that violet seems Roshar specific, as Brandon specifically points it out relatively often in SA. I had always assumed light and dark eyes always existed on Roshar, but religion slowly molded the population into valuing light eyes to the point in the books. Taking into account how editted the history books are, light eye ancestry could have been warped. If your info is coming from non-Jasnah, in-novel sources, then, I'm not sure how trusted they can be. I will default to trusting you though, as you are far more familiar with the novels than I am.
  2. A few things to point out for this discussion. First, remember that cognitive identity of the object being awakened is more than just how the Awakener views it (think of the stick in SA). The nanobots would need to view themselves as one single unit, cognitively. This is why Vasher's straw man worked. Yes, the straw man is made up of a bunch of individual straw strands, but together they make a "doll." This "doll" then had the cognitive identity of being a "doll," and as such could be awakened as a single unit. Same with cloth later in the book. Cognitive identity is a bit more omplicated than just how the Awakener views things. Getting a grouping of nanobots to view themselves as one unit would probably be tricky, considering each individual bot would be doing their own thing. I would say it would be impossible to do (as the straw strands from the straw man moved as a unit, rather than running around individually). Next is the amount of Breath one would need to do so. Nanobots are, I assume, inorganic. Awakening them would then be similar to awakening Nightblood, and they would be Type IV entities. This would require a large amount of Breaths, and as discussed in the above paragraph, would probably require that for each nanobot. Then one has to take into consideration that the Awakener would need to be of the Ninth Heightening, as Dunkum noted, to give the nanobots audible commands. This Heightening would need to be maintained across all of the Awakenings. All in all this would require such a vast amount of Breath that I would, again, label it impossible. Theoretically, I suppose it is possible. But it is possible in the same way that, if the Earth suddenly had no mass, we would get pulled to the moon by its gravity. Theoretically possible. Will never happen. That's my take, anyways.
  3. I guess you just solved the WalDo issue. Joking aside, I do not think Harmony would resurrect Tindwyl. For one, I do not think Tindwyl would want to be resurrected. Second, Harmony will eventually be overcome by his Intent, and be a very different person (reference Ati). Resurrecting her is just not something I can see him doing.
  4. More than this, splinters often are sentient. Shards are not, unless they are picked up.
  5. I agree this is very interesting. Unfortunately, it seems to fall into the same basket as most honorblade discussions; we just don't have enough information to make any educated guesses. I agree that the WoB you linked to pretty much squashes topaz being clear, and I suppose diamond is the more likely candidate (I've always viewed diamond as white, personally). Are we certain that the lighteye traits did not exist on Roshar prior to surgebinders? It's possibly just my Earthly bias, but it feels odd to me that there would be no lighter eye colors in the Roshar gene pool prior to surgebinding. Moreover, depending on the state of the other Cosmere worlds, it feels too coincidental that worldhoppers coming to Roshar back then would all have dark eyes.
  6. Eh, forget the whole me starting a new thread bit. You pretty much made the argument in the thread you linked to, there's no new reasons to bring it up again. I will continue to discuss here though. Do we know the other half of Shalash's parentage? Shalash could be a lighteyes due to her mother, as aren't lighteyes the gene-dominant on Roshar? Though that argument would break the theory that Kaladin's mother is a lighteyes, so I guess that's out... Of course it could be that genes work the same on Roshar as in real life, so Jezrien could have had lighteye blood in him, and if his wife did too their child could have been born with them. This would also explain Kaladin's eyes if his mother really is lighteyes, as his father could be pure darkeyes, which would dominate the lighteyes gene. It is also possible that my suggestion is correct, and that topaz's color is simply clear, or rather it lacks a color, but this seems to contradict the tan eye color in Dalinar's visions...
  7. Pure speculation; each honorblade causes the eyes to change to a different color, possibly related to the gemstone matching each Herald's given essence (though, if I recall correctly, the heralds were matched to the essences at a later point than the essence chart was devised). Topaz, Talenel's gemstone, is a clear gem that, upon heat treatments, can turn into a variety of colors. As a result, Talenel's honorblade might not change the holder's eye color. This also matches the fact that Szeth's eyes turn sapphire when holding Jezrien's blade, and Jezrien's gemstone is sapphire. I'll make a new thread on this for more in depth discussion. And to comment on Moogle's note of Shalash's eyes being violet, not garnet, I do not recall her holding her blade during that scene. Perhaps I am wrong though.
  8. I meant that Alloy of Law is to the Era 2 quadology as The Final Empire is to the Era 1 trilogy. Both books had a story resolution. Outside of wanting to know what happens to Scadrial after TLR is killed, there was no real reason, story wise, to continue reading the Era 1 trilogy. there was no cliff-hanger, and the story was complete. Same with Alloy of Law.
  9. The Taln we meet has dark eyes, but the Heralds had light eyes. This is why Amaram, upon meeting Taln in the prison cell, is taken back by the dark eyes.
  10. I voted other, because I do not see anyone on this list as particularly evil. They are all simply misguided.
  11. I use spoilers to avoid the WoBs being removed when quoted, as well as placing the source link outside the spoiler in case someone wants to delete the spoiler from the quote. My only issue with nested quotes is that it can quickly make a post obnoxiously long (even by 17th Shard standards). the problem, then, with spoilers like I use is that the spoiler function does not tag time, which Moogle included in the script. I almost wish we had a [wob]...[/wob] function which acted like quotes (with a time stamp if you get creative), but nested upon being quoted. That's my opinion though. Thanks Moogle! Now if I can only convince IT to install chrome on these darn work laptops...
  12. To me, that would be like saying the Harry Potter series is only 6 books, and the first one is just set in the similar time period, in similar locations. Alloy of Law and Shadows of self have the same characters, same location, and is a continuation of the story. Mistborn: The Final Empire was also a stand-alone, remember. That was still a trilogy. Regardless, though, Alloy of Law did result from a writing excercise between WoT books. From my understanding of the Shadows of Self announcement, Shadows of Self resulted for the same reasons (WoT break), and then Band of Mourning resulted from writer's block during Shadows of Self. Only Brandon...
  13. Theoryland, with it's database search, is far more efficient than a compilation thread on this site would be. The ultimate goal for the Brandon part of Theoryland is to have all WoBs there, not some there and some here on this site. In addition, linking to direct WoBs on Theoryland is much easier than linking to one on this site (for one, you can only link to a post on this site, not an individual WoB, if multiple WoB are contained in one post). Though I agree that the interface is not the easiest to use, having a true compilation on this website woud be even worse. In my opinion the interface is tolerable though, with my only wish that we could search non-WoT only, rather than WoT WoJs and WoBs being included (particularly now that WoT is done). As I understood the novels, the metal you ingest goes to your stomach. Like food, then, it remains there until it is either digested or burned, with the burning mechanism being unknown.
  14. Take the info in the MAG with a grain of salt. The info contained within that is not confirmed/contradicted by in novel info or WoB is in a weird state of canonical limbo, if I am not mistaken. I think Brandon said something along the lines of "If I haven't denied or confirmed, the MAG info is canon, until I decide that it isn't." So at any point in time Brandon can make the info held within non-canon. It is why I haven't bothered reading any of the MAG.
  15. Pretty self explanatory. I usually get a few chapters in to gain a natural knowledge of the system, and then I'll check the Ars Arcanum, skipping over things I feel might be spoilerific. This topic may contain much spoilers. Read at your own risk.
  16. Fixed. I applied the actual source as well, for good measure (it was the Prelude, right?)
  17. I'm not sure if your question is rhetorical or not. If not, the answer is we don't know. Brandon has yet to finish any of his own series (even his standalones have sequels churning in his head).
  18. LINK In this section, the last sentence reads "Unlike Shardblades, which remain when their holder dies,[9] Honorblades vanish when their owner dies[10], so as Taln's Blade did not vanish, he was still alive." I was not aware of/forgot the Honorblades vanishing when their owners die tidbit, so I followed the source link (#10), and the source reads "Szeth's honorblade did not vanish upon death." Um...how is this a source? If anything, it is an anti-source...
  19. I don't think Malatium mistings ever existed. As you said, there are no mistings of the alloyed god metals (Particularly the Lerasium ones, as being a misting of a metal that turns you into a different misting is just...odd).
  20. I do like the format. One thing to keep in mind is that by placing the source link in the quote, when someone quote your post, the WoB and the source link are lost, as evident by my uneditted quote above. That's why I always personally use spoilers (which would make it hard to place the date where you did) and place the source link outside of the spoiler. Those are my personal preferences though.
  21. I was going to do the same thing (create a file with the script) once I got some time available. If you do not mind, when you are done, would you be kind enough to share? If not I understand, it was probably hard work. Regardless, I hope it works well for you.
  22. Perhaps the mechanism is that when 1 gram of metal is burned, it returns as 1 gram of ore, and as a result Scadrial will eventually run out. That is pure speculation though. As a side not, I feel conflicting WoBs are going to slowly become more prevalent as he canonizes more information. It is nice that he sometimes notes when his answer is not set in stone, but I have a feeling Brandon changing his mind about things, whether whimsically or because of real world science (thank you Peter for keeping things real), will result in a lot of answers conflicting with previous answers. We will have to begin taking dates into consideration.
  23. I would first like to note that I was fine with Babel fish. Adding the word "complemented" makes the phrase a little too long, though. I recommend we just call it Hoid's Babel ability, capitalization intentional. We could call it his RS ability (Rosetta Stone), though that implies he knows the languages. I also want to say that I do not think Taln is using a similar/identical ability. I think that, as a Herald, one of his "abilities" is to speak the language that would be understood by his recieving party. Given the time between Desolations, they would have to just know the language to be able to communicate effectively. It probably has to do with the Oathpact. I guess if you want to consider this similar, fine, but I do not think he's making deliberate use of magic like Hoid is.
  24. Both, if I remember Compound mechanics correctly.
  25. For the split second you'd have to think about the implications...
