  1. Something I find interesting that no one has mentioned yet is that both Mraize and Iyatil are worldhoppers. And given that Iyatil is not originally from Roshar, if she's a worldhopper she has access to a not-Stormlight-based magic system and is proficient enough to worldhop. This then raises the question of Mraize's origin. Does he have non-Roshar magic in his sDNA too? If so, why call Iyatil his babsk (a Roshar specific word)? Is babsk the closest Roshar word to the definition of their relationship? Wasn't him using the term babsk what led us to believe he was from Thaylenah? And why did nobody ask if Jasnah visited another planet while being in Shadesmar?!!? Also I'm happy to have confirmation that the Shadesmar version of space is nothingness.
  2. I think you're being a little harsh. We do not currently know the types of cultural pressures that the Shin place on Truthless. It being a cultural issue, I do not think any of us Earthlings, having grown up in human society, will ever truly understand Szeth's "willingness" to oblige the controller of his stone. I'm sure there are practices in different human cultures that you do not understand either. I'm not saying you should agree with Szeth's obedience, nor am I saying you should not be appalled at his actions because of it, but I do think it's unfair to label him as Kaladin does, making such quick judgement without fully understanding the situation.
  3. Yes...that was what I was suggesting...and not the totally awesome idea of dual-wielding shardblades... In all honesty your scenario is more likely. As I said, I do not know if one can bond two blades at the same time or not, but I would be surprised if it was not possible. Edit: Located a WoB source
  4. I feel the same. Though the time between the making of the films was too large, and as a result they definitely did not look the right ages for most of the films, I thought all the films were good, especially given the amount of content they were forced to not include for brevity's sake.
  5. Given that shardblades and shardplate are contested over in duels, I think it would be rather probable for one person to bond two blades (assuming it's possible). In recent Rosharan times, though, if I recall correctly, a remark by Adolin noted no one had bet their shard-equipment for some time at the Shattered Plains prior to the series of challenges Adolin makes during WoR. So I don't see it currently being probable in the story, but it could have been quite common for rulers, or rather their chief guards, to have multiple blades (again, assuming it is possible).
  6. Mmm, thank you for the clarification. I feel like I've read somewhere in which it was stated he'd be unable to act, but I can't seem to find it after searching for over an hour. Perhaps I was just interpreting the WoB you link to as the "very difficult" implying nigh impossible. Thanks again.
  7. Remember that Sazed will eventually be bound to the intent of his Shards, and being polar opposites, he will be unable to do anything at all but watch. If the Ones Above are Scadrians, I would think that enough time should have passed that Harmony will be unable to interact anymore.
  8. First a few quick tips. Try to avoid posting immediately after yourself. It's something this forum wants to avoid (and for good, no-spam reasons in my opinion). Instead, use the Edit button. We here at 17th Shard, especially in this Cosmere Theories subforum, are perfectly okay with long posts. Also, when trying to post specific links, use the following format, but replace all parenthesis ( ) with brackets [ ]. (url=www.exampleurl.com)words you want to have be the link(/url) Remember to replace the parenthesis ( ) with brackets [ ]. As for my response to the OP, I like the idea of mapping, but I don't think we know enough to make a map that is useful. I like the idea of Scadrial and Threnody being in the same solar system though. Unfortunately, other than the sun, the only map we have of Sel is the one focused around Elantris. Same for Nalthis, the map given is only focused around Hallandren. Still waiting on Nightblood to shed some light on the rest of Nalthis...
  9. These questions are worded in such a way that the reply would be "Yes, it is possible." I don't want to steal your thunder, so try to reword them in ways in which Brandon can't slither his way out of answering them.
  10. We've already got smarthphones, so I doubt attaining the technology for what I'm about to propose would be difficult at all. All of our personal computer/phone/thingamabobs have an app that is the Earth calendar, and religious holidays are tracked that way. Not difficult at all. Just sync your calendar up to the desired religions and set it so your notifications allow that app to initiate, and you're all done. Though, on a darker note, space travel will no doubt lead to other discoveries that cause Earth's current religions to drastically alter/die out, and as a result essentially new religions would probably crop up, leading to new, space time holidays (because in a multi-planet society using a base, constant time scale is best).
  11. We're also ignoring the fact that Vivenna manages to "creep" up on Jewels without trying, something that should only happen on Nalthis with a Drab. Everyone has a little bit of life-sense (that feeling of being watched, etc.), and for Nalthians that is held within the Breath. On other planets it is just innate and un-removable. Though possible, I find it unlikely that the Terriswoman would pick a Drab to "impersonate" simply due to the possibility that she forgets this fact. Also, why would a non-Nalthian worldhopper not acquire some super-awesome Breath once getting to Nalthis. Definitely the most fun magic system! Perfect Pitch and Perfect Color Recognition is too good to pass up. Perfect Life Sense would be cool, but by that point you might attract attention off-Nalthis.
  12. Well, the key would be the definition of HD television. Ours is High Definition. Theirs is Heightening Definition. It accurately portrays the higher Heightenings for those not wealthy enough to attain them.
  13. Nah, just a tad. We can finish our coffee before intervening

  15. Don't forget the article about the KR who is actually in love with his Spren and not his wife!
  16. That's the reason he left. Clearly.
  17. Awesome. Question answered. Thanks folks!
  18. This is the key. I think Nalthis will become Hollywood/Bollywood, and be the Cosmere focus for all visual formats.
  19. I like the idea, but I'm not sure if it has much weight. Wax's gun-slinging abilities, as well as his sense of balance in the air, could just be from experience. Wax is no spring chicken, and he's been living with these powers for quite some time. It is reasonable to assume that, as he uses his abilities, he becomes more adept. Think of a talent in the real world; I will pick playing guitar. As one continues to play guitar, they get better and better, developing skill as they go. Some guy who has never played the guitar will not sound like Hendrix the first time he plays. As such, Wax's experience at being a Twinborn with his specific powers can easily explain his proficiency. I suppose the point I am trying to make is that though the idea is compelling, there just isn't evidence to say that it isn't experience, but instead some Realmatic influence. Looking further into it, the only two instances that i could find where the investiture enhances a person's abilities is Breath and Atium. The former I feel is a special case because Nalthians have a portion of their innate investiture placed on the Breath, and the latter is, in my opinion, different than what you are suggesting. Atium raises the user's mental capacities to be able to make sense of the future(s) they are seeing. I do not think that simple experience could raise one's awareness to such levels, whereas practicing shooting could indeed put one at Wax's level (same with air-balance).
  20. I think my Edit ninja'd you...
  21. One feature I've noticed this site is lacking that other forum sites I've used have is a Post Preview button. It is a means to see what your post will look like without having to actually post it to the site for public viewing. I know I would make heavy use of such a feature to discern whether I've typed all of my brackets correctly for s and
  22. I feel like Odium's splintering MO would have been a thing from the start. The whole reason he started killing the Shard holders was so that he would, eventually, be the strongest being in the Cosmere [source]. I will concede, though, that the source Coppermind uses is the WoK Letter in the Ch. 22 epigraph, and is simply conjecture on Hoid's part. It is of note, though, that Hoid does not mention Rayse Splintering the shards after learning his lesson from [insert Shardholder name here]. In addition, we have seen numerous evidence to that fact that Rayse is quite intelligent and cunning, which leads me to believe he'd be Splintering from the get go as a "just in case people can pick up shards like we did" type of situation, and that's assuming he didn't know whether a Shard could be picked up again or not.
  23. No reason to feel sick and ashamed. The only thing you missed was the super-mega-fancy-awesome transformation sequence that all the Radiant Students must go through to use their Radiant powers. Personally my fingers are crossed for one similar to Sailor Moon. In all seriousness, though, Dragonball Evolution pretty much killed most anime's chance of becoming live action, expecially in the States. I do not think we need to worry about this happening to SA. And if an anime were to be made, they would most likely stay relatively true to source material. It's a shame that many westerners (i.e. not Asian) can't associate cartoons with anything serious. It's not really the individual's fault either. I'm not exactly sure where you're from, but in the U.S. the cartoons that adult's see are all either shows for kids, or comedies like The Simpsons, Family Guy, etc. In Asia though, they are a legitimate source of any genre. And as for taking cartoons seriously, I encourage anyone to watch the following clip from Fate/Zero. It is...horrifying. Also would be rated TV-MA, so please watch responsibly. Fate/Zero Clip And for those worried about spoilers, there are none, unless you don't want to know who Caster is for this Holy Grail War (this scene is where both Caster and Caster's Master are introduced).
  24. This is where the Wiki link at the top of the page now takes me.
  25. Just a side note: Emphasis addedDevotion's pool was an odd color for water, as it was described as Sapphire blue [source]. I've seen blue water. I've seen green water. But sapphire blue, just like emerald green, are odd colors for water.
