  1. You mean like making themselves more fertile? If that WoB exists, it is not on Theoryland. I could not find it, anyways.
  2. Multiple accounts go against the rules, so I doubt that is the case. If it is, I'm sure the mods will figure it out. That being said, it is super easy to lurk 17th Shard. I did for about a month before joining, and others have lurked for years, if I am not mistaken.
  3. Brandon actually, a long time ago, implied it did not have to do with Cognitive Identity, but rather the child in the womb: source Keep in mind that this was long enough ago that the reasons could be very different now in Brandon's head. He has given less information when asked similar questions since then: source This second WoB implies that Cognitive Identity has nothing to do with it whatsoever.
  4. All right, now that we are definitly getting one bonus, I'm voting electrum. If we hit $35k, I'll vote Lerasium as well.
  5. I agree with you, which is why I have the small little paragraph at the end of my last post saying so. However, a few isolated examples is a lot different than an entire planet's population. Also, it is the presence of the Aviar specifically that makes it hard for me to find it believable that they haven't advanced. Again, it is entirely possible that First of the Sun has advanced, and Dusk's people are one of these isolated peoples.
  6. Though a Shard's presence probably helps, a society should still advance naturally. For Scadrial to go from medieval to space, even given an accelerated rate, that should still take thousands of years. If humanity did not have such useful tools as Aviars, maybe, maybe there is a sound argument for First of the Sun not advancing at all. But given Aviar, humanity should have advanced beyond where they seem to be. That being said, we do not get to see actual civilization. The story does comment multiple times on how the world views Dusk's work as almost "barbaric," so it is possible they are more advanced than we are shown.
  7. This is what I like about using my androids, though I don't use sepia, I prefer the black background with white text. I think it is easiest on the eyes.
  8. I'm thinking electrum to match all the pairs, though Lerasium would be nice too to get both god metals.
  9. See. Now don't you feel better knowing that you will always be known as zucchini guy? It was a...well, I was going to say noble goal, but it wasn't all that noble...I've applied an equal amount of upvotes to you to cancel mine out. Welcome to the 17th Shard.
  10. Don't give up on your dreams! Don't give up on your destiny! You make your own destiny! In five years, do you want to look back on this time and think "Yeah, I could've become a zucchini, but then quit a quarter of the way..." or do you want to think "HECK YEAH I BECAME A ZUCCHINI!" Edit: Well...I've hit my negative quota for the day...
  11. I got you down to lifeless (-7). Be sure to post more so I can undo this madness once it is all over. Edit: Someone is already undoing it, and you haven't hit zucchini yet...
  12. Didn't the Stormfather comment, either in the conversation with Syl or a conversation with Dalinar, that he was around when Honor was too? Moreover, don't we know that Cultivation isn't dead, and therefore, if the Nightwatcher is a CS, it is all the proof we need that a Shard does not have to be dead to have a CS. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something...
  13. Perhaps our understanding of Cognitive Shadows is flawed.
  14. You know, I was hoping that this plague would become some major issue that must be dealt with within the novels, but this...this is even better. Edit: Let me rephrase. I was expecting the plague to be related to the Desolations. Not something as simple as what Europe did to the Americas.
  15. The Divine Breath that is granted to a Returned is capable of being "hidden." The mechanics of this are not known to us, and only some Returned know how to do it (i.e. Five Scholars only at this point I would think). Vasher hides the Divine Breath so that him being a Returned is not obvious to just about everyone. It had never occured to me, but I suppose the prologue is evidence that hiding the Divine Breath causes the Returned to lose the abilities granted by the Heightenings that the Divine Breath grants.
  16. I think it was a popular theory, but this is our first confirmation. that might actually be why Brandon answered, because the asker just assumed it to be true so Brandon thought we all already knew...
  17. My only problem with this is that for a planet to have that kind of a tool (the Aviar) for so long, why are they so technologically behind so far in the future? This makes me believe that the Aviar, or at least humanity on First of the Sun, are relatively recent in terms of all of time. However, as you note, information is largely lacking, and so your guess is as good as mine.
  18. Rather, falsely measuring a Returned, but within a reasonable margin of error. This would probably work best on a Returned that understands the mechanics of changing appearances. I'm curious if, should measuring a Returned lock their height as well, they would no longer be able to change their appearance as far as height is concerned...
  19. Sounds to me that the people backing the theory that Khriss wrote the Ars Arcanum are going to have a field day.
  20. It would depend on just how long ago Aviar were a thing on First of the Sun. The story Sixth of the Dusk takes place during Era 4 Mistborn, according to a WoB I recall having read. There is a lot of time between where we currently are and where that will eventually be. That's what will decide whether we can see First of the Sun worldhoppers in the currently released books or not.
  21. I agree with you 100%. I do not think the golden hair is the Royal Locks, but something else, potentially from yet another world. I think the flower is more likely the Nalthis item, assuming they are indeed a collection of worldhopping items.
  22. Do you have WoB that the Seventeenth Shard follows a Shardholder? I have never seen that anywhere. The dragon on Yolen is not necessarily holding a Shard. I would almost argue he definitly does not, given the phrasing within the Response. Plus, as Hoid's letter states, the Seventeenth Shard are only the Recipient's "friends," not necessarily cohorts.
  23. The scene being mentioned is Hoid soothing/rioting emotions at one of the banquets, not when he plays his flute for Kaladin.
  24. Is that confirmed? I thought it was a well supported theory, but not quite confirmed...?
