  1. Given the very specific response Brandon gave: I'm going to say that yes, we trust this answer. Until he tells us he's changed his mind, anyways...
  2. There's always a risk with the POV characters not knowing exactly what they're talking about, but Sazed, at the time, had ascended and was granted the vast knowledge of the past, particularly, as I've come to understand it, about the Shards he now holds. I would argue that of anything Sazed has ever said, those epigraphs should be the most likely candidates to be true. Regardless, though, Brandon has now decided that Harmony was wrong *dramatic music*
  3. I've been of the opinion that novels trump WoB. If I understand Dragonsteel Entertainment's hierarchy correctly, Peter is the one who Brandon goes to for canon accuracy, and making sure he does not contradict previous books. As such, answering questions on the fly at Q&As can lead to false information. Novels, on the other hand, get harsh scrutiny for the facts (at least I hope they do). Also, aren't novels just one long WoB?
  4. I love science fiction! Heinlein's Starship Troopers is the epitome of good SF for me. Ender's Game was good as well, and for recent releases, The Martian by Andy Weir was phenomenal. Highly recommended hard SF. As for my preference, I have to say that it doesn't matter much to me. I mostly enjoy soft SF visual media, though. Hard SF is a little tough to grasp visually without long monologue like lectures.
  5. Sazed did, in HoA, if I recall correctly.
  6. I knew cyborg allomancy/feruchemy would be a thing! Jokes aside, that's some good info as a whole.
  7. Ah, thank you for the clarification.
  8. Just to clarify, there were not allomancers before TLR's ascension. Feruchemists, yes, but not allomancers.
  9. THIS. I would possibly throw in TES as well, though they are very different, and TES winning those fancy awards really begs to be left alone... Definitly a full detailed map(s), and a full Ars Arcanum.
  10. You know, I had completely forgotten about the Sarene - Spirit thing. If one were to get incredibly critical of the situation, one could argue that a ) she was having that nagging feeling she knew the guy and unconsiously knew who it was, or b ) given the situation and that she's a foreigner lost in a sea of politics and emotions, it is reasonable for her emotional state to attach to something she likes and grow overly attached. Perhaps it was too fast though. That one doesn't bother me so much as Vin/Elend, particularly Vin/Zane, and Adolin/Shallan. I completely agree. I love the Wax/Steris couple, and really, really, really hope Brandon sticks to it. Steris was just a great character all around, but her and Wax together are awesome. That's a good point. I had forgotten that Adolin wasn't just a player, but he actually would get smitten with the women he'd play around with. So perhaps it's not as painful as I remember it (I have only read it once). It will be interesting then to see how they, as a couple, progress (I really don't want a love triangle. Please don't give us one Brandon).
  11. I don't view it as derailment to discuss your position, as that is the point of this thread. I'm not going to try and convince you that you are wrong, but rather merely point some details out you may have missed. Then I'm going to agree with you on a part of your post. For Elantris, you seem to be under the impression that when Sarene and Raoden meet face to face in the novel it is their first meeting. That...is not true. It is mentioned a total of two times (If I counted correctly) within the novel that Sarene and Raoden had been communicating for months via their Seons. Most of the romance in that novel occured off screen, prior to page one. For Alloy of Law, Marasi has spent much of her time studying Wax and Wayne. To her, the two of them are heroes. From my reading of the novel, I understood her initial infatuation to be mostly fangasms at actually meeting these two legendary crime fighters. I know for a fact that the internet is full of girls who feel the same way about Tom Hiddleston. I would think it logical to be jealous that her cousin is the one engaged to such an icon. As for Era 1 Mistborn, I totally agree with you. Vin falling for Elend was a bit too ridiculous for me. I can understand being infatuated, given their exposure to one another. But the first time she thinks to herself "I love him," I was taken aback. She barely knew the guy! I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on Warbreaker. It is the romance that Brandon himself thinks he got right, and I agree with him. I won't spoil anything for you though. I want to add one more romance to your list though. Adolin and Shallan. Don't get me wrong, they are adorable, but they totally "fell at first sight," and it really erks me. Yes, they went on a date or two before "getting serious," but the thoughts that Adolin has upon seeing her, and she him, gave it all away. I was quite disappointed in that turn of events.
  12. The arguments for getting the not-Kindle Fire are still sound, but why prioritize Kindle Fire over any other tablet? I'm not sure about iOS, but my android devices (including my phone) all have the Kindle App. To my knowledge, I have everything a Kindle Fire does as a result, and am not restricted to buying the Kindle Fire hardware. Perhaps I am missing something though?
  13. This: I must say, partially lying is something I can see Taravangian doing. He was mildly intelligent that day, plus, if Szeth were to try and check the info, he'd find it true. Heck, even the Regrowth bit might be true.
  14. He's near the end of WoR, when they are out on the Shattered Plains.
  15. I am of the opinion that if SA was turned into a TV series, it should be two series, approximately 5-6 seasons long. The only issue with this is the potential that the ending of book 5 is a HUGE cliffhanger. I know currently that is not Brandon's plan, but if it is then a TV series would have to be one long one, rather than two semi-long ones (5 seasons is actually quite good for a TV show, 10 is mostly unheard of, except for the few rare cases).
  16. I thnk Moogle means innate as in the spark of life, your soul. not the investiture granted via Snapping.
  17. Er...not to rain on your parade, but at that time, "second trilogy" would mean the Era 3 trilogy. That is besides the point, though, as I understand your point. I think you are misunderstanding mine (though that is probably mostly my fault, I'm bad at explaining things some times) . That all being said, as king of nowhere points out, it is all semantics. Obviously you can view it as a separate entity, while I don't. It really does not matter.
  18. Er...he makes hasty generalizations about an entire population based on their eye color alone. Though not technically racist, as he is of the same race, he is definitely prejudice against lighteyes. I would say that detracts from the quality of his character, as Smurf was saying. But that is also why he is a good character - he isn't perfect.
  19. I guess that's true. I understood his answer as being at the time of Sixth of the Dusk. Regardless, it is clear a Shard invested in the planet at some point, so it is either gone now due to some unknown motive, or the obviously magical pool isn't so magical...
  20. Perhaps it is the planet that the other Shard Odium has killed resided.
  21. I don't want to stray too far off topic, but I do not see this happening. Brandon makes clear efforts in almost every book to avoid fantasy tropes. That is why he even almost cut Kelsier's death, if I recall correctly, because he disliked the fact that he was killing the mentor. For Brandon to revive not one, but most of his protagonists, seems almost sacreligious. I can't see him ever breaking a single trope so many times. As a personal note, if that is how this all ends I will not only be disappointed in the story as a whole, but in Brandon as a writer. He's better than that. To get the thread back on topic though, have we considered the mistress to the highprince Shallan is staying with? I've forgotten both of their names.
  22. I'm not so sure about the first question, but I am pretty confident the answer to your second question is "Yes." I vaguely recall a description that to make the blue lines appear Vin made her Steel/Iron burn very softly, or simmer, essentially. It's been a long time since I read the books though. As to your first question, I think it boils down to the mechanism of steel pushing. This is pure conjecture, but one way for this to make sense is the following. Let us assume Vin burns steel at a rate of 1 g/s, which allows her to push a single coin with X N of force. I believe we all agree that it is the rate at which the metal is burned that affects the power, yes? So, at that constant rate, she sees all of the blue lines sprouting out from her center of gravity, and can push a single coin with X N. This is where the mechanism comes into play. One option is that she can divide the X N of force among any number of the blue lines they choose. This mechanism gives her the power to divide the force in some manner (potentially just halves, quarters, etc. or less neatly as in 1 N down this blue arrow and X-1 down this one) as well as the power to choose the number of blue lines the force is exerted along. In addition, this mechanism would mean that to push 20 different coins with X N of force, she would need to burn steel roughly 20 times as fast. Another option, though, would be that at 1 g/s, X N of force is applied to any or all of the blue lines. This mechanism simply gives her the ability to decide which blue lines the force is exerted on. As a result, though, she would not burn steel 20 times as fast. I have no idea which mechanism is correct, though I lean towards the first one, personally. That being said, the second makes Wax toppling a building more reasonable.
  23. I'm going to disagree with you here. I got totally different feelings from the two books, and was easily able to guess Elantris came out years and novels before Warbreaker without looking it up. His writing style in Warbreaker is so much more matured, and he engrossed me in his story, even when nothing really happened. Warbreaker blew me away, and Elantris, by comparison, made my jacket flap. But that's better than the Mistborn trilogy, which merely toussled my hair.
  24. For a slightly easier interface, the wonderful Moogle recently shared this with us, simply because he's awesome!
  25. Ah, so you're a bit more like me then Your last point is one I hadn't thought of. Though it seems weird to have a population with no light eye colors, we are given pseudo evidence of the fact. I would find it odd for Dalinar to not remark on seeing lighteyes in lowly ranks when he has seen and commented on darkeyes in higher ranks. Particularly once he and Navani start taking meticulous notes about his visions. So the question now becomes whether the Heralds were all chosen at the same time. If not, Shalash could have been born after Jezrien getting his blade, and as a result the possibility of a lighteye child is apparent. If that is not the case, though, then it should be impossible, given our current information, for her to have the light eyes without some kind of influence, or her being a Stormlight savant. My only problem with the savant argument is that it should have been documented and more well known, as I'm sure there were other Lightweavers or Truthwatchers who achieved savant status if it were possible. But then again the historical documents are heavily editted/trashed, so uh... this hurts. This physically hurts... I suppose one could also argue that savant status, with stormlight, requires much more use than it does with metals, but I don't see much evidence supporting/disproving that. That is a possibility that has been brought up, but I find it hard to believe. Why would the honorblades act differently for Heralds than for anyone else? There has been no evidence of such, and all in-novel characters believe Honorblades to be just like Shardblades in almost every way, and all their stories came from them being wielded by the Heralds. Even Szeth is of the opinion that it takes 10 heartbeats to summon them, when WoB says it doesn't. If the Honorblades acted differently for the Heralds, the general populace should know of it, as their stories of the Heralds should be riddled with differences from Shardblades. Also, it is not canon, to my knowledge, that the Heralds are non-Rosharan. It is just a theory some people believe.
