Random Thought about Odium
CrazyRioter replied to not an Evil Librarian's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Honestly the Big Bad of the Cosmere is probably Bavadin. -
We probably shouldn't discuss that theory here, it'll just derail the thread. Shardplate theories are a common line of speculation here, there's other threads. Anyway my point was that spren probably wouldn't want to bond somebody that was already bonded. And if they did they'd fight a lot, lol.
-
I think Edgedancer and Windrunner oaths could work together, but it would still make things more complicated, and spren don't like to share. Syl gets possessive of Kaladin even where lesser spren are involved.

Fortune is just a name people use for powers that allow future sight, because many of them can manifest as hunches that look like good luck.
-
Yolen has the fainlife and dragons, so it's actually less Earthlike.
-
Moash's name apparently originated with the ancient singers, so it makes sense that it's unusual.
-
Yeah Shards can absolutely gain advantages over each other by being better at future sight because they have more processing power available and more time. Atium is very short term, and regular people don't have the processing power to sort out all the possibilities anyway.
-
Shardblades are light for their size, that doesn't make them objectively light. It's still a fairly heavy chunk of metal. This gets brought up in WoR when bridge 4 is training with one.
-
Nightblood's sheath behaves very weirdly for aluminum. Common joke is it's actually made of handwavium. Realistically aluminium won't very effectively as a shield. No they didn't use the spanreed at all, iirc. It wouldn't have worked through the aluminum plates.
-
IIRC the shields shatter like Plate does when they break, which is not normal behaviour from a metal. An aluminum shield would bend and buckle when struck, it's not a very durable metal.

How to (and how NOT to) redeem Moash
CrazyRioter replied to ZenBossanova's topic in Stormlight Archive
The Shards themselves are not evil, but the Vessels can absolutely be evil, and Rayse-as-Odium is evil by most standards. Also the nature of that particular intent does tend to lend itself to evil, it's hard to imagine a positive interpretation of it. -
as that WoB says, Radiants can still become Savants and that will still have effects, they are just different and less extreme in Radiants then in people using the fabrials.

Connection Medallion Spiritual Realm Wandersail.

No, they do get side effects from Soulcasting, but they are different and less unpleasant then what you get from using a fabrial.
-
If you go through the Stormlight Archive tag on A03 you'll find them. There's a bunch.

Sja-anat has expressed a desire to defect but we don't know if she is sincere. It's been speculated that she will end up as a fourth bondsmith spren at some point. As for the third Bondsmith spren, I believe they are a mix of Honor and Cultivation.

I'm pretty sure Adolin's issues WILL get more play in book 4. I don't see him ever becoming Odium's champion, but he's going to go through a difficult patch due to fallout with his relationship with Dalinar over Sadeas, and also finding out what really happened to Evi. I don't see Kaladin and Shallan ever getting together at this point even if Adolin dies or something, I think it would be too painful for both of them. Also they are just bad for each other. Kaladin would place Shallan in the situation of feeling like she needed to continue hiding the depths of her issues to be his emotional support, which is the exact last thing she needs. They could work in a OT3 I guess. I've seen good OT3 fics of them (though if we're going for non-canon relationships involving these three I prefer Kadolin.).
-
I voted for Cultivation because I think her Intent lends itself to focusing on the future the best of all the Shards we've seen so far.
-
I recall hearing that "keenspren" was translated as "lamentspren" in a localization but I idk if that was Brandon's idea or if they just went ahead and picked a meaning of the word to translate. ('keening' means wailing or crying).

Does prolonged surgebinding make you insane
CrazyRioter replied to SzethIsBadAsHell's topic in Stormlight Archive
Kaladin's issues predate his Surgebinding, and are the result of a combination of naturally depressive tendancies and Tien's death. -
I don't think Khriss knows more than the Shards do (except Harmony but he's new), she may know about specific areas of study then the Shards do, but I'm sure they have more general knowledge due to having more ways to gather information.

I would guess that attempting travel via the SR is extremely dangerous without some specific power that does the navigation for you. It's basically like location doesn't exist so you could end up anywhere, it would be easy to end up in the wrong place, which statistically speaking means "in hard vaccuum".

hoid Hoid's sand mastery(if that what it is)

I think Hoid's sand thing is just Yolish Lightweaving. -
How to (and how NOT to) redeem Moash
CrazyRioter replied to ZenBossanova's topic in Stormlight Archive
He arguably had legitimate reason to want revenge against Elohkar (even if the whole thing was more Roshone's fault than Elohkar's in the first place) but what he did afterwards, basically writing off the human race because of the actions of a few, and killing Jezrien just because somebody asked him to is...less excusable.
