  1. It's been brought up before earlier in the thread, but I am highly skeptical that she could actually fix Maya, and I also don't want it to happen that way for the same reasons I don't want Dalinar to be involved in fixing her.
  2. Adolin and Dalinar rebuilding and redefining their relationship and Adolin resurrecting Maya are plotlines that can intersect, but I think it's because they will both involve some soul-searching on Adolin's part not because Dalinar is going to have anything to do with resurrecting Maya directly.
  3. There were so many Unmade in that situation that it's hard to figure out what was going on there.
  4. Personally I'm imagining him getting beat to crap yet again, and thinking he's worthless. He's on the edge of dying, with his soul unusually open to outside influences, this makes it easier for Maya to get through to him, and push him into believing that he can be worthy if he has the courage to try. He swears the First Ideal, this gives Maya just enough strength, coupled with their desperation to pass him a little Stormlight to save him from bleeding out. He won't be able to access Stormlight regularly at that point but it'll start him on the path to swearing more Ideals. Something along those lines anyway. I think I prefer the idea of Adolin basically healing Maya through his own actions because I think he tends to feel like he gets handed everything good that happens to him. I want him to have something he can point to that was unquestionably something that happened because of who he personally is and what he personally did.
  5. That's certainly a good theory as to why it helped! Spren are defined by perceptions, so being seen as a person rather than just a sword could very well help her be a person again.
  6. I suspect the thing that really spurred things on is them being in Shadesmar together, as that's the point where she started to show apparent improvement.
  7. Nightblood is ordinary metal infused with a large amount of Investiture. The Investiture has attained a form of awareness, but it is still bound to an actual physical object. That's why NB can't be summoned and dismissed.
  8. The Nightwatcher or especially Cultivation (who I suspect is actually responsible for Lift's weirdness) could probably help, but I don't see that as necessary or narratively interesting. Lift can probably help indirectly by helping Adolin swear the Ideals (though they are a matter of personal understanding so it's very much ultimately up to Adolin to work that out, with whatever help Maya can give him.) but I don't see how she'd help directly.
  9. Basically yeah. Functionally they appear to be the same but they are actually different alloys based on the Investiture that comprises the spren, for example Sylspear is nearly pure Tanavastium, whereas Wyndlestick is nearly pure Cultivation-metal, and Patternblade would be somewhere in between (but more Cultivation-metal based on WoB).
  10. I'm almost certain singers were created directly. We've not seen anything that appears to be particularly similar to them that they could be closely related to (like chimpanzees on Earth).
  11. Right there are gemstones, but they don't need to be a specific type and in the case of Blades don't even need to be infused.
  12. I think it would be highly unlikely to matter. Not impossible I guess, but highly unlikely. Do you have a reason behind that speculation?
  13. Also with regard to the fact that nobody else has revived a dead spren previously, I have a few observations, 1) I suspect Adolin is overestimating how common his consideration for his Shardblade is. It may be common to talk about it, but I suspect very few do it, especially to the degree that Adolin has. 2) She did not show any obvious signs of improvement until after they met in Shadesmar. I suspect that that meeting in Shadesmar facilitated the deepening of their bond and I also suspect that such a thing has never happened before. It's obviously not common.
  14. I agree with @Calderis again and I also don't think the ability to grant surges is a specific thing that could be ripped out of a spren in the first place. It's a consequence of their nature. If she's able to bond with him deeply enough to be healed he will get Surges.
  15. Lift is confirmed not to be able to use Stormlight from spheres for Surgebinding for the record.
  16. Done right (and Brandon does most things right) it could be amazing to read the progression of her "waking up". And coming to terms with how much everything has changed.
  17. I found the WoB in question So anyway, it'd probably just be an interlude, but we can hold out hope for something a bit more substantial right?
  18. Actually, a Rosharian foot is larger than standard though we don't know how much larger, which makes figuring out how tall our characters actually are hard. Anyway Shallan is taller than 5'6.
  19. We have WoB that Rosharians are more resistant to disease than most other people as a result of all the Investiture floating around (widespread disease outbreaks are rare, which is why the disease spread by the worldhoppers in the Purelake was so notable even though it was basically just a cold.) We don't really know what other effects this might have.
  20. Brandon has said their will probably be a spren PoV eventually, which I am also looking forward to for the same reasons as you. I also find attempts to imagine the inner workings of a non-human intelligence fascinating. It being Maya, who is fascinating for so many other reasons would just be icing on the cake.
  21. A Maya PoV would be swell. I'd totally read a Maya and Adolin novella (with guest appearances from Lift and Wyndle). Getting her thoughts on..well a lot of things first hand would be really fascinating. There's been some speculation on how Syl differs from more recently created honorspren as a result of changing human perceptions of honour, It' be interesting to explore similar themes with how Maya differs from the younger generation of cultivationspren.
  22. There's lots more potential worldbuilding, about the singers, about the Aimians, about various countries, about the orders of Radiants we haven't seen yet.... So no, I don't think Brandon's anywhere near out of worldbuilding.
  23. Note that Roshar has lighter gravity than Earth (it's about 0.7 G), so that would be a factor that would tend to make Rosharians taller than Earth humans, though that would also apply to Shinovar.
  24. The rock was a symbol of religious authority.
