Favorite Type Of Spren (or maybe envisioning new types)
CrazyRioter replied to AngryMistspren's topic in Stormlight Archive
With regard to existing spren incorporating new thoughts. So I'm guessing new ideas would tend to spawn new spren. I wouldn't expect most individual memes to spawn specific spren, because the individual memes are too fleeting in most cases, but the concept of memes would definitely have spren. -
Favorite Type Of Spren (or maybe envisioning new types)

I'm curious about inkspren. Ivory seems like an interesting guy. I also really like musicspren for some reason, I just think the mental image of these little ribbons popping up around people playing music is cool. -
In one of Dalinar's visions there's a Dustbringer that is clearly using Abrasion to reduce drag while moving through some water, so they can remove friction. Generally Surges work very similarly between orders (with the Bondsmiths being an exception).

Here is the relevant WoB So it's not exactly "protection" it's just that the effects are different if you are Soulcasting through a nahel bond.

If Maya revives, will she be the same?
CrazyRioter replied to Invocation's topic in Stormlight Archive
Savantism works because repeatedly channeling large amounts of Investiture changes your soul. With Shardblades there is little or no Investiture flowing through the person. -
Yeah you don't necessarily have to be broken. And I would dispute the assertion that Adolin isn't. He clearly has some latent issues, they showed up a little in his POVs in OB and I would expect finding out what happened to him mom to put further pressure on him. And I agree with Rlain becoming a bondsmith. I don't think Venli will get to Shardblade level in book 4 though.

If Maya revives, will she be the same?

That section is a bit confusing but it looks like the 12 heartbeats is if you're like in Low Orbit and you're trying to summon it. That's what he's talking about in that section. In the section where he's talking about being on the other side of the world he's like "yeah, nobody's gonna notice that because the effect isn't big enough." Regardless, this is a distraction because we're talking about a few feet of distance at most. That's peanuts. Actually that's peanut cells. It doesn't matter. -

The WoB clearly states that the difference will be negligible unless you are on a different planet. Certainly, a distance of a few feet won't matter and that's probably what we're talking about given that we know she's been hanging around him the whole time, because nobody locked her up. -

The vast vast majority of the summoning time is just the process of 'waking up' the dead spren just enough to summon them. The distance is irrelevant under normal circumstances. -

It's not that they are less themselves, they need a bond to think in the PR, and a bond also allows for some degree of change and growth beyond what is usually possible. -

I would expect her to be trying as hard as she could to be helpful for Adolin's sake if nothing else, and I would expect her to know things that would be helpful enough to outweigh any issues caused by her trauma. It'd expect issues in that regard to be interpersonal in nature. And I think it would absolutely have a huge effect on spren relations with humans particularly if she and Adolin could find the time to travel through Shadesmar and talk to them. Admittedly, Adolin is going to have a lot of demands on his time. -
I think Nale can probably be taken as correct in this instance. I see no reason why Taln would keep having bonded a spren secret from the other Heralds.

I agree. Perception does matter in the Cosmere, more than in real life, but there are hard limits on how things work that cannot be bypassed by believing it hard enough. Syl's comments are pretty clear that the delay is a consequence of the state of the dead spren. Admittedly, Syl is not perfectly knowledgable, but in the absence of evidence to the contrary it's best to take her comments seriously. -

There were likely very very few if any dead Shardblades around before Honor's death and the Recreance. -
Glys has the same surges as a normal Truthwatcher spren, it's just that one is the Voidbinding version. At least that's what I think is going on.

subspren-truespren relation theory

Syl explains it in the Shadesmar chapters in Oathbringer. While they are exploring Celebrant iirc. Not in exactly those words, but essentially. -
subspren-truespren relation theory
CrazyRioter replied to Turin Turambar's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think Adolin coming to view Maya as more of a person than a thing, via meeting her in spren form in the Cognitive Realm is a factor in her (apparently) starting to heal. -
As far as I can tell it does not need to be infused.
-
It apparently facilitates the formation and use of the bond, but the bond is with the deadeye spren itself. If the gem is removed you can't dismiss the Blade, but you don't have to rebond it when the gem is replaced.
-
Yeah the gems in Shardplate are interchangable. And Shardblades don't require Stormlight to bond.
-
yeah people already use gemstones to power the Plate, but they haven't been able to bond with the Plate in the same way as with Blades. There's lots of things we do not know about how Plate works. Hopefully we will find out in book 4.

If Maya revives, will she be the same?
CrazyRioter replied to Invocation's topic in Stormlight Archive
I find it incredibly unlikely that people have not urged their blades to appear faster in the past. Granted it's not common to personify one's Blade to the degree Adolin did even before he learned about the origins of Shardblades, but lots of people have a subconscious tendency to personify objects to some degree. How often do people urge their computers, appliances or what have you to work faster even though logically they know it's an inanimate object. -

I don't think she would have the capacity to make that choice if she was not healing. -
Idunno shoveling sewage is probably worse.
