  1. well we might see some of how Willshapers use Transportation in book 4, with Venli.
  2. He said 'in most cases' on a least one occasion, which implies that there are some situations where somebody else could do it. I don't ever expect this sort of thing to be common, but the WoBs suggest it's entirely possible.
  3. Sure, but Dalinar's dad had an actual head injury, which is the simplest explanation for 'delusions'.
  4. With regard to him being in more danger, maybe temporarily. But that depends on how you imagine her healing might progress. This is a unique situation, the usual rules do not necessarily apply. She might still be "stuck" as a Blade until she's fully healed. In any case, being temporarily out of commission while he works on bonding her properly is a far cry from being permanently outmatched by pretty well everyone. I also agree with @SLNC about the Willshapers, both Eshonai and Venli do fit, Venli is less ideal, which is why Timbre went for Eshonai preferentially but both do fit.
  5. I definitely don't see Jasnah lashing out violently at Szeth on first look. That's not the kind of person she is at all. She won't be happy to be sure, but she won't let it overwhelm her judgement.
  6. Brandon originally intended Adolin as a foil, but he's even said he's grown beyond that. He's got his own problems and insecurities and troubles and just using him as a foil would be doing a disservice to his character at this point. And, frankly, if he doesn't get powers he's going to end up either dead or sidelined and pushed off into the background. He can't continue in a front-line role with the main characters as is. And given how the narrative has highlighted his concern for his Shardblade even before he knew she was a dead spren, and especially after, and what happened in Shadesmar and Thaylen field, it'd be bad writing to just drop that thread.
  7. It'd be amazing. We're told Edgedancers were graceful and deadly on the battlefield, we haven't had a chance to see that with Lift (though maybe she will learn), but we could definitely see it with Adolin.
  8. maybe not but it's pretty suggestive I think. Obviously you disagree.
  9. probably he was deciding whether to answer that or not.
  10. We do have the WoB I posted earlier that she might well have chosen to bond with him if she were alive.
  11. it's currently the best guess we have for how one revives a dead spren.
  12. Adolin's situation is unique. I suspect he will need to speak the first three Ideals to fully 'revive' her, until then she will be limited and probably he will not be able to surgebind until that point.
  13. Azure's blade is similar to Nightblood, but much less powerful. It's more like Nightblood was originally intended to be. And with regard to Maya, she is already "speaking" with him, in rudimentary form.
  14. Kaladin, Shallan, and Dalinar are extreme cases. Just because his life wasn't as rough as theirs doesn't mean it was fine and dandy. And this is still off topic and should be moved to another topic where it can be discussed without derailing this topic further.
  15. I don't pity Adolin or see him as a victim. It's merely that he hasn't lived the perfect life some people insist he has.
  16. We know the Oathpact was created in response to the Fused. Whether Honor was empowering the people who would become the Heralds before then we don't know though.
  17. His dad was either absent or alcoholic for most of his childhood and adolescence and his mom is dead. Clearly the epitome of a normal, happy life.He has major self-esteem issues that are coming increasingly to the forefront as of Oathbringer. He's only a shallow character if you read on a surface level and don't read deeper. And any character is 'shallow" if you only look at the surface layer. That's part of the reason I like him, he looks like the stereotypical self-confident jock, but he really isn't. Regardless, this is getting a little off topic for this thread, there's other threads to discuss Adolin's character in general.
  18. Jasnah has issues dealing with her emotions but I wouldn't describe her as unstable.
  19. Lift doesn't like constraints and doesn't like people relying on her because she's afraid she'll let them down. They're somewhat similar in that regard actually. Adolin's issue isn't actually that he doesn't want to adhere to a higher ideal, he just doesn't see himself as worthy of such things. Deep down he lacks confidence in his own abilities, independent of what his rank, privilege and Shards have earned him. He also judges himself based on what Dalinar wants him to be, and feels like a failure for not being the person Dalinar wants him to be. I think Dalinar has projected onto Adolin the person he wishes he'd been when he was younger, which is obviously bad for both of them because Adolin isn't and can't be that person. These are the major obstacles he faces.
  20. Spren aren't perfect but I would say they normally do have pretty good judgement. They are drawn or not drawn to certain people based on their behaviour. I would say it's at least highly suggestive of his basic compatibility. He might have some work to do to progress, but so have all our Radiant main characters.
  21. I think he'll need to swear the first three Ideals at least to bring her back so he'll end up at that level and go from there. (It's spelled Mayalaran).
  22. I'm pretty sure this was posted earlier in the thread but I'll post it again for ease of access (and because it is my WoB and I am extremely proud of it). This is post-OB so persumably takes into account his killing Sadeas.
  23. Also why is this relevant to this discussion exactly?
  24. I don't think boomerangs exist as a concept on Roshar, so no.
  25. Adolin killed Sadeas because he knew he would keep on throwing lives away in pursuit of power. It was the only way he had at that point to prevent further loss of life at Sadeas's hands. I think killing a person who is a threat to many other lives can be easily fit within the First Ideal, Adolin was intentionally not letting himself grieve over Elohkar in Shadesmar because it simply wasn't the right time to have a breakdown, not because he didn't care about him. Other people needed him in the moment.
