Long Game 18: Holly and Iron

.....I believe that's a hold-over from when one of the items/actions (probably the thieves lamp and the pickpocket) was able to steal items as well, but now those only steal currency, so stealing items isn't a thing anymore. The item destruction is most definitely still a thing though. Correct. EP that not used to impress a Master doesn't roll over to the next turn, but if you use your EP, then it stays within that field until it's used for an elevation or to get rid of discipline points. Yes. If the Masters are not PC's, then the elevation will be randomly selected out of the players who have EP with that Master. Once a PC is a Master, however, they can elevate anyone of their choice who has EP with them. Same with the discipline points for the Masters. EDIT: ....and ninja'd- 1161 replies

Long Game 18: Holly and Iron

I'm sorry. We were trying to figure out a title, and then, after we'd figured out a title, the title we landed on was not only too long but also the post itself was too long, so I had to separate things and we needed to figure out a new title. Hence it being posted 20 minutes late. Oops.- 1161 replies

Long Game 18: Holly and Iron
little wilson replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Player List Clarifications The GMs Aonar and Orlok are helping me GM this game. We're each handling a different part of the game, so make sure to include all three of us in any PM you create. I'm handling the Arcanum, Elevation, Discipline, and Devi. Orlok is handing Lodging, Currency, Admissions, The Apothecary, and the Black Market. Aonar is handling Naming Actions, The Crockery/Insanity, and the Eolian. Rollover Rollover is at 5:30 pm MST, or 12:30 am GMT. Game starts: Impartial Moderator The Impartial Moderator for this game is Alvron. If you have any issues and would like to discuss them with someone other than the GMs, feel free to shoot him a PM and I'm sure he'll be ecstatic to help you. Well, as ecstatic as shadows can get. About the Talent Pipes Can I submit something pre-recorded for the Talent Pipes? Yes. It would be preferable if it were a recent recording, but so long as it’s not autotuned or anything like that, anything is fine. Do you need the whole song or would a few scales be sufficient? Can I submit multiple pieces? The whole song, unless the song is like 20 minutes long. You can submit a couple pieces to showcase your skill a little better, if you’d like, though it’s not necessary in the slightest. I’d say no more than 3 though. And preferably each piece is to showcase different instruments or skill level with a particular instrument. Like playing the piano and singing at the same time, and another of just playing the piano. How do I submit the recording to you? PM the link to Aonar, Orlok, and myself. You could upload it to soundcloud or even Google Drive. What are my chances of getting the Talent Pipes? Fairly low. We don’t want everyone running around with Talent Pipes because that cheapens them, especially since they’re so rare and coveted in the books. If you submit a recording, your chances improve slightly, but it’s far from a guarantee that you’ll get the Pipes even if you submit something. Do these recordings have to be professional-quality? Heavens no. To give you an example of what works, I’ll record some songs myself. This one was recorded with just my phone, while playing the piano and singing. This one was recorded with a fairly low-quality mic and some recording software I’d only barely downloaded and therefore didn’t know very well. It’s using a karaoke track and the parody lyrics are credited to Paragrin. Either of these recording qualities are absolutely fine. If you win a Talent Pipe and someone gives you theirs, how many Talents do you get per turn? If you have two Talent Pipes you would get twenty talents per cycle. I'm not sure why someone would give you Talent Pipes if you had already had some, but in theory, if they did, it would double the benefit. Does the recording have to be a solo piece or can it be with a group? It needs to be solo. About Plum Bobs Does this apply to any PM? No. If the Plum Bob is used, the GMs will ask the user how many questions they want to ask and what those questions are. The user can only ask basic questions. Once the questions have been okayed, the GMs will start a PM between the those two players and the user can ask their first question, the target answers, the user asks the second question, the target answers, and etc, until all questions have been asked or the target flies into a rage and refuses to answer any more questions. What does a "basic question" entail? A question that can be answered with one word, generally. Any question that requires multiple answers or clarifications or explanations of an answer is not basic and therefore cannot be asked. The more specific a question and simple an answer, the more basic it is and the higher the chance you will be clear to ask it. Can the target be evasive with their answers? No. You must answer truthfully. Fortunately, you don't need to explain your answers, since the questions are basic. Though if a basic question is passed that has multiple answers, you can answer however you'd like. For example, if someone asks what your field of study is and you've studied in multiple fields, you don't have to (and shouldn't) list them all. If someone asks how many Skindancer teammates you have, and one or two have died, you can give the full count or just the living. It's up to you. Your answer just has to be truthful. Basically, don't be evasive, but it's up to the asker to find a question that there is only one answer for. If they ask a question that could potentially give you multiple ways of answering, you only have to give one answer. And if they want all possible answers, that question isn't basic anymore so you About Masters, Ranks, and Elevations Can a player become a Master in multiple fields? You can only be a Master of one field at any given time. If you're asking about something else....PAFO. Each Master gets 5 DP. Is that total? Total per turn. Do Masters advance players from E'lir to Re'lar to El'the? Yes. If the Masters are not PC's, then the elevation will be randomly selected out of the players who have EP with that Master. Once a PC is a Master, however, they can elevate anyone of their choice who has EP with them. Same with the discipline points for the Masters. Are the El'the, Re'lar, and E'lir elevated from the same pool? Yes. Each Master only gets one elevation per turn, which they choose from the students who have elevation points with them. There will be a maximum of 9 elevations per turn (one from each Master), though there could be less in any given turn. No one is elevated on the first turn. What happens if an El'the accrues 15 EP in a field that already has a PC Master? That El'the will be second in line. Should anything happen to the PC Master, they will replace them (assuming they still have 15 EP, since EP can get used for discipline). What if multiple El'the's accrue 15 EP before anything happens to the PC Master? Those El'the's will get in a line, from the first to accrue the required amount to the last, and they'll wait they're turn. What if a former Master breaks out of the Crockery? Where do they fit in the line-up against a PC Master with lots of El'the's with 15 EP? I thought I removed all references of Masters gaining their position back. That's been changed. Masters can no longer regain their position should they break out. Just like lower ranks go down a rank, so does the Master. A Master who breaks-out will permanently be an El'the (unless he goes insane again, and breaks out again, and then they'd be a Re'lar). How can a player steal something? .....I believe that's a hold-over from when one of the items/actions (probably the thieves lamp and the pickpocket) was able to steal items as well, but now those only steal currency, so stealing items isn't a thing anymore. The item destruction is most definitely still a thing though. The rules say that unused EP doesn't rollover but then says that EP does rollover. Does the second refer to used EP? Correct. EP that not used to impress a Master doesn't roll over to the next turn, but if you use your EP, then it stays within that field until it's used for an elevation or to get rid of discipline points. Can we PM freely? Yes, but your PMs could get intercepted and spied on because you can't really trust your courier. What do all these acronyms and abbreviations mean? IP, d8, and d10. Explain? IP is shorthand for Insanity Points. It's the same for EP and DP (Elevation Points and Discipline Points, respectively). d8 and d10 are dice sides. So d8 is an 8-sided die and a d10 is a 10-sided die. Most of the references to the type of dice being used is to show the chance you have of having something happen. For example, the d10 is for Insanity, and that's relevant to players because all you need is 12 IP to crack, and with a 10-sided die, if you're unlucky on the roll, and you've done anything to add to your Insanity that turn, you're basically certain to go insane. If you didn't know what the die used was, you wouldn't be able to decide if doing certain actions is worth the potential risk. How does Linguistic Analysis work? The Analyst is told if their target told a lie the previous turn. The Analyst is not told how many lies the target told or what the lies were. If the target was wrong about something (like they say someone isn't a skindancer, but that person is), but they believe what they say, it comes up as a truth, because it's true as far as the target is aware. The Analyst is only told about forms of communication they have access to--so the thread or PMs they are in with that person or PMs they've spied on that that person is in. Can you post in the thread if you're in the Crockery? No. You're insane. And you're stuck in the Crockery. The thread is for sane people who can actually do things. You're basically dead if you go insane. Yeah, you have a chance of breaking out, but those chances are pretty low, even if you're a Namer. So if you go insane, you shouldn't post in the thread or use game PMs. Your role in the game is done until/unless you break out. Does non-game related discussion in PMs count against the PM-to-thread inflation point? No. If you have an entirely non-game-related discussion with someone in your PMs, that won't change the numbers. However, if there is anything game-related in a message, that message will count. For ease, probably mark out-of-game discussion in PMs in blue. Will Lodging, Tuition, and Social Classes be public knowledge? Lodging and Tuition are private. Social Classes are public.- 1161 replies

Long Game 18: Holly and Iron
little wilson replied to little wilson's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Section 3: The Arcanum The Arcanum is where all the fun happens at the University. Led by the nine Masters, there are many different fields of study in which for students to try their hands: Sympathy, Artificery, Alchemy, Naming, Rhetoric & Logic, Arithmetic, Linguistics, Physicking, and the Archives. University students do not start in the Arcanum. They are brought into the Arcanum once they have shown they have the moral fortitude necessary for a member of the Arcanum, are sponsored by a Master, and are elevated to the rank of E’lir, which is the lowest of the Arcanum ranks. Once you are in the Arcanum, you can be elevated again, through the ranks of Re’lar and El’the and potentially become a Master of a field. This section covers the ranks and elevation point system and all nine fields. Section 4: Imre Every term/full cycle, players (students and Masters alike) can go to Imre once. For the half-cycle they are in Imre, students cannot impress a Master and Masters cannot elevate students. Players cannot do any University action (use a field ability or create an item), but they can do anything in Imre. Imre has a whole host of possibilities that aren’t necessarily available at the University. There are four locations players can stop by: The Eolian, The Apothecary, Devi’s, and The Black Market. Items for sale at the Apothecary and Black Market will be given to each player going to Imre at the beginning of the cycle they are heading there. Players can also sell items and contracts on the Black Market. Contracts are sold for whatever the seller thinks they are worth. Players can only go to the Eolian once per game, and they can only go to Devi’s once per time they are in Imre. They can purchase/sell any number of items/contracts at the Black Market or the Apothecary, while supplies last. Quick Links- 1161 replies

Welcome to The University! You’ve heard about the famed institution your entire life, dreaming of attending and possibly even learning the arcane arts. Well, congratulations! You’ve finally made it. You’ll have no problem impressing the Masters enough to let you into the school, though perhaps your tuition could be high. Or it could be low. You just don’t know! All you really know is that you’re where you’ve always wanted to be, and you’re here to learn all you can. But what’s this now? Rumors abound of Skindancers in The University. But the Skindancers are all supposed to be dead, right? Apparently not, because sure enough, students and Masters alike start having problems. Most of them seem to go crazy, and the Crockery is filling up, though some even die. Although you’re no Taborlin the Great or Kvothe the Bloodless, you and a bunch of fellow students have taken it upon yourselves to solve the mystery. You’ve resolved to eliminate the Skindancers once and for all. Only then will you be able to resume your studies and learn to your little heart’s content. Good luck! Section 1: Game Basics This section entails the basics of the game like the factions and their win conditions, the cycles and order of events, and how voting works. Section 2: University Basics This section entails basics that are related directly to this game and the University. These include the currency system, social classes, lodging, admissions, insanity/The Crockery, and discipline points/The Horns. Because of the epic length of this game, it's continued in the next post.

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
little wilson replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
I work in internet marketing, for an SEO firm. For those who don't know, SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, so basically, we create keywords for clients' services/products and optimize their site for those keywords, which in turn helps search engines rank those sites higher for those particular keywords. To break this down even more, if you're searching Google for a plumber in Geelong, a site that has "plumber in Geelong" in specific areas on their website will rank higher than a site that doesn't, even if they're both plumbers in Geelong. The reason for this is that search engines have things called "spiders" that crawl sites and index them, making it super-easy and super-fast to pull up sites that have the words you're searching for when you search. Different search engines will rank sites differently, based on their individual algorithms to give you those results that you see. The goal for SEO firms is to get their clients on the first page of the results, since very very few people ever go past that first page. My company uses Google. We don't care about Bing or any other search engine. Google is God. Now, there are a few things that Google really likes when it comes to ranking sites higher. One is the number of backlinks to the site. How many other sites are linking to this site? Are these other sites related to this site? For example, if you have a plumber and they've got plumbing, construction, and home improvement sites linking back to them, that's going to look a lot better than a plumber who has a bunch of travel or literary sites linking back to them. So the quality of the backlink matters. The more "authority" a site linking to you has, the more that link will help your site. So getting a link from a site like National Geographic is a lot better than a run-of-the-mill blogger. Google also really likes quality content--both on the site itself and content that the site shares that relates to their services, or content that is placed on other sites that links back to the original site. Basically, Google likes quality. Whether that's with great content or authoritative sites, it's all helpful. But quality is very important to Google. When it comes to SEO, there are basically two different types of ways you can go about it: honestly or dishonestly. In SEO jargon, that's white hat versus black hat. White Hat SEO is building SEO organically--you write quality and it gets shared. You provide quality services and other people link to back to you and gain rank through word-of-mouth and things build from there. It spreads naturally. Black Hat SEO is.....the opposite. Link farms to give you a bunch of links, spamming blog comments with links, outsourcing guest blog posts to non-native (and very terrible) writers and posting those guest blogs on bad sites, just because it's got a link that refers back to the client. Stuff like that. Entirely unorganic and just bad. I've been working for this company for almost three years. It'll be three years in June. The first team I was on created an in-house blog network, with literally thousands of different blog sites geared for a specific topic (from construction to industrial, to real estate, to home and garden. You name the topic, we had it, and if we didn't, we would create it), and we would outsource short articles to post on these blogs that would link back to the client. Google eventually found about 5000 of these blogs and de-indexed them because--surprise, surpise--they didn't like the idea of an SEO company with an in-house blog network that would unorganically give back links to clients. Sure, it's not totally black hat, but it's very grey. The next team I was on was guest blogging. We'd have 3 hours per article, to write, research, and contact sites to pitch the articles to them and publish them. 3 hours was plenty of time to write a really good 600-800 word article and get it published on a decent site. While I was on that team, we used site criteria like Domain Authority and Page Rank to find sites to post on. The higher a site's DA is, the better the site is, usually. We couldn't contact a site unless they had 30 or higher (DA goes up to 100, I think). I made a goal while I was on that team to get my posts on sites that averaged 50 or higher. Because that's higher quality. Getting a link on that site to refer back to the client will help the client more. Then Matt Cutts, Google's Director of Spam, made a blog post about guest blogging. This was 2 years ago. He said "stick a fork in it, it's done." He was basically saying that while guest blogging initially had some great uses, SEO companies use it now to write crappy articles to post on crappy sites and now guest blogging has deteriorated so much that it's just useless. My team wasn't doing what Matt Cutts said. We were writing very high quality articles and posting them on good sites (I got published on some sites that no one at this company has been published on before, though they were under aliases so I can't actually lay claim to those articles, sadly). But after that, our time got cut from 3 hours to 2 hours and a week later, it got cut to an hour and a half. They wanted more articles. And let me tell you, writing and researching a 600-800 word article in an hour and a half is bloody hard to do, especially if you want it to be well-written. The ironic thing is that when they made these changes, they were like "But we don't want quality to go down," and I'm sitting there like "Wait, you've just cut the time in half, and you expect quality to stay the same? With half the time? Are you insane?" Fortunately, I got moved to a different team about a month later. Back to my initial team, in fact (and it was during this second time with them that Google then de-indexed 5000 of those blogs). That team got dissolved about 6 months later, and I got transferred to a team that actually works on the client's site. So, for the first time, I was doing honest work. I've noticed, however, that the quality of the work that comes through my team isn't that great. It's not terrible, but our productivity is based purely on numbers and how many tasks we finish in a day, which means that we're not writing to the best of our abilities. We're not spending a couple extra minutes looking at the client's site to make sure we're gearing what we're writing particularly to the client. So we get tasks back to rewrite them. And no one really cares, because that's just a number to boost our productivity. And this isn't a problem unique to my team. This is a problem that afflicts all of the content side of this company. The focus is not on the client. It's not on quality for the client. It's on quantity for our own selfish reasons about productivity, because the executives make things so much about productivity, but they won't create a way to make things measurable from a quality standpoint. I'd hoped that maybe this was because they just didn't realize the issue. I mean, after all, when the changes were made to guest blogging, they didn't want to sacrifice quality, right? Maybe the fact that they're not writers meant that they didn't understand that you can't cut time and keep quality the same. So long as productivity is based on numbers, you're never going to produce the highest quality work. So last week, I emailed the head of my department. He's an executive. I see him almost daily. He knows me by name. I told him about what I'd been noticing and gave him some examples, and I'd hoped that he would want to discuss this further. But he hasn't. He hasn't even responded to the email to acknowledge the issue. Which makes me think that the executives are very well aware of what's going on and they don't care. They probably think that because they're doing more, it will make up for the fact that it's not as good. But Google wants quality. They know this. And yet they're fighting against Google, insistent on focusing on quantity rather than quality, despite Google constantly changing their algorithms to give quality content higher rankings. Once Google succeeds with that endeavor (when, not if), all the work we're doing right now will be pointless at best and hurtful at worst, because it could end up affecting the client's rankings negatively. But no one really cares. Because it's not actually about the client. I never thought I'd come across people who disparage quality like this. I never thought I'd work for people who don't care one whit about actual good work (though they'd never admit that). I never thought I'd work for someone who says they care about the client but everything they do says otherwise. And yet, here I am. -
It was May 2005. I'd just turned 18 a few weeks prior and it was about 2-3 weeks until I graduated from high school. After school one Wedensday, I was talking to a good guy friend of mine, who I shall call P. He was in his car, which was idling, with his window rolled down, listening to me blather on about....something. I can't remember what, but it was really important at the time. Okay, fine, for the sake of honesty, the topic of conversation was probably another guy. The point is, it was really important. But P had tennis practice to get to. He didn't have time (or the inclination) to listen to my woes. So he put his car into drive and started coasting forward, slowly. I walked alongside the car, continuing my story. He'd been parked along the main road, away from the high school, and there was a side road that went back to a parking lot right by us. He had a habit of going back into that parking lot to turn around and head back to the high school. So this is what he was doing. He turned the corner onto this little side road, and I just kept following alongside him. About halfway down, he decided that he was really done listening and accelerated, leaving me standing in the middle of the road, mid-sentence. I was furious. This was important, and he'd left me almost mid-word. He would pay. I knew he was going to turn around and come back down this road, so I decided that I would inconvenience him by staying exactly where I was. He had room to go around me on either side, and that was my goal. He wants to ditch me in the middle of the road, fine. But I'm not moving. He turned around and started heading back for me. About 20 feet in front of me, he slowed down to about 5 miles an hour or so, and this is when it occurred to me that he's not going to change direction. At all. The first thing that popped into my head was not to get out of the street (which, let's be honest, we all knew that: I wouldn't be telling this story if it were). No, I am a stubborn individual when I put my mind to it, and I'd said I wasn't moving, and by golly, I wasn't moving. But I couldn't just let myself get hit by a car. So what should I do? Movies. What do characters in movies do when a car is coming toward them? Why, they jump on the hood, of course! In that moment, I felt as if I've never had a more brilliant idea in my life (very important note: I cannot jump worth a darn). Somehow, I cleared the hood. Landed right on it, dead center. Perfect leap, perfect landing. But somewhere between the landing and P's shock at me leaping on his car and him slamming on the brakes, I lost my balance and promptly faceplanted straight into the windshield. The left side of my face took the brunt of the fall, and it knocked my glasses out of place, which sent the nose-piece tearing down my nose and leaving a nice long scratch--not that I knew that initially. All I knew was pain, and I grabbed my glasses, held my face, and rolled off his car to go sit on the curb and figure out just how much damage I had done. My nose and cheek hurt the most, but it didn't seem like I had a bloody nose, and I didn't think anything was broken. Then P's girlfriend--one of my best friends--ran over. She watched this entire thing happen from across the street, and she asked me if I was okay and then told me my nose was bleeding. She got a bandaid and kleenex from P's car and handed them to me. And that's about when P took off. He didn't say a word to me; he just zipped out of there (I'm nearly certain he was in shock). I got home that afternoon and examined my face. Besides a cut across my nose and down it, that was the only damage. No black eye or anything else. I've no idea how that happened, but I have a habit of somehow escaping accidents mostly unscathed (really, though. I was run over pretty wickedly when I was 3 and should've been either paralyzed or killed but only got a minor scrape on the side of my face, and when I was 4, I should've drowned in our pool, but somehow didn't). So I graduated high school with a new scar from one of the stupidest (and craziest) things I've done in my life. I still have that scar to this day. And that, dear children, is why one should never try to reenact movies. Particularly not by jumping on the hoods of moving vehicles. Attempting to channel your inner stunt(wo)man usually ends badly. #commonsense

My signing report from the Calamity release party: Q. Are any of the Lord Ruler's descendants kandra? A. No. Q. Have we seen any them in Era 2? A. Yes. Q. Where? A. There are a lot of descendants, percentage-wise, but you're looking for something that isn't there. There are descendants of the Lord Ruler, but there's not some secret coven. It's not outside of reason to say that some of his descendants are part of a coven, but it's not like some super-secret magic society. Q. You mentioned that "half-ish" of the existing Shards are whole at the time of Shadows of Self. Is that counting splinters? A. No. Splintered is one of the ways they are not considered whole. (He's thinking about Dominion and Devotion and says that's the opposite of whole) My clarification: I was thinking about shattered versus splintered, and going with shattered with Devotion and Dominion. And then splintered would be Honor separating a piece of himself to create the spren (pre-Shattering). His response: On Scadrial, Ruin and Preservation did the same thing. Their bodies are part of the world. Things on the spiritual realm don't matter where they are in relation to each other. All those spren are still Honor, when he was alive. Does that make sense? Yes, they're splinters of Honor, but they're still Honor. It's not like he's diminished, because his whole essence is the world. There's no diminishing that. So we're talking about the fracturing of the mind and killing of the Shard. That's the distinction between whole and not whole. Q. Are there any Shards we don't know of that are Shattered? A. Yes. (Zas' sister says "Four....ish...right?") Eh....Honor is gone. Devotion and Dominion are gone. There are others. The question is is Cultivation gone or not? I haven't answered that for you. There are others. So this is why I'm not going to give you answers on this. Q. Does Bavadin have a sibling? A. RAFO Q. Can you give us any hints about Vax's magic system? A. No. (To which Isaac says something about a magic system based on RAFO: the more RAFO you get, the more Investiture you're able to hold) Yes, yes, I know my wording of that last one was begging for him to say no, even without the content of it, but whatever. I still think his comments about both TLR and the stuff about Shards, splintering, and the Spiritual Realm were rather useful, so that cancels out the two non-answers.

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
little wilson replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
I'm not so certain you're much different than others on this thread; you're just able to admit that you want people to lie to you if it's for your own good. I'm positive that many people (myself included) have no problems lying to others in their life if they think that other person can't handle the truth and will punish them in some form for being honest. The difference is that when you're the person lying, it's you deciding that that person can't handle it. You have your reasons and you're convinced that that person will react badly, probably because you have oodles of past experiences that indicate such. I'm equally positive that if that person were to know you were lying to them, they wouldn't be happy about it, because, generally, people don't like having someone tell them that they can't handle the truth. Which is exactly why when someone lies to you, most people react poorly. The sad fact is that when it comes to lying, a lot of people live by an ugly double standard: I will lie if I need to, but I don't want anyone to lie to me. -
Anniversary Game 2: Return of the Koloss
little wilson replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
There's a reason people say not to try to guess Meta's role distribution at the start of the game. Excellent job to the Spiked this game. Tyrian Falls is well and truly cursed now (the team that breaks said curse in later anniversary games will surely go down in the annals of history). I'm going to lock this thread up, since it seems like everyone's said what they want. If anyone wants to try running a game, contact Alvron, Meta, Gamma, or me, and we'll get you added to the list. If you have any questions about building a game or want some help or feedback about a game, the Art of Game Creation thread is perfect for that. The four of us mods can help with what you need, but we've also got a number of experienced GMs (and players) that can help you refine a game you're working on. If you'd like to sign up for another game we've got a Quick Fix run by Anamaximder that'll be opening up signups in the next day or two, and Long Game 18's sign ups will go up this weekend. So stick around and join another game! Thanks for playing everyone, and we hope to see you in future games! -

Heirs to the Final Empire: Roleplaying Thread
little wilson replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Inactive RPs
Tarek Wilson stood in front of the memorial honoring his grandmother. She looked regal there, and not for the first time, he wished he'd known her. A woman brave enough to take the House in a new direction. The Arranging Marriages stewardship had been an unprecedented one, but Tamsa had put an energy into it. And now Tarek was going to take it all down. Matchmaking just wasn't his thing. He appreciated it for what it was, but the idea of running around Luthadel, finding the best matches to preserve pure allomantic bloodlines or forge new bonds between Houses just didn't appeal to him. In fact, it gave him the shivers. He wasn't cut out for that, nor was he raised for it. Ruán had been the one trained for manipulating those drawing room conversations, yet his mother had wedded him off to the Herons, just before they left the city. Tarek had been brought up on the training field, with coins in a pouch and metal vials on his hip. He'd made more friends with the guards than he had with other Nobles. That was who he was. "She'll understand, Tarek. She did the same thing you're doing," Lisha spoke, coming up behind him. "I know. But I still feel like I should honor her memory." "You are. By doing what you want to do, you're honoring her memory. The only way to dishonor her is to force yourself to do something you hate. She wouldn't want that, even if it was something she loved. Do what you want." He nodded. "I suppose I'll be going to the Canton of Hegemony then." Lisha held out a coin pouch. "Don't forget this. Not that you need it, but it can't hurt." He chuckled and took the pouch. "Thank you." He looked at her for a long moment, and then turned, heading toward the entrance hall. His own marriage was proof that he wasn't cut out to be a matchmaker. His mother--who hadn't been much of a matchmaker herself--had just known instinctively that Lisha would be a good fit for him, and she wasn't wrong. He couldn't begin to fathom how she'd known, though he imagined it was similar to how he instinctively knew where to place a glass dagger to do the most internal damage. Probably. Well....maybe not, but that was the closest thing he could think of. Regardless, she had known, and he had not, and that was enough to show him that he needed to abdicate. So he was. And so it was with a light step that Tarek Wilson entered the Canton of Hegemony on the day he would abdicate his stewardship. His mind made up, and his path clear, he knew what the Final Empire needed of him, and by the Lord Ruler's staff, he'd do it. Actions- 868 replies

Well, since the options were the 10th and the 24th, and today is the 10th, I'm guessing we're going for the 24th then. Which works fine for me. Either day worked, which is why I didn't say anything before. And it sounds like this will work the best for all the people who want to come but are going to LTUE. It'll be nice to see some new faces.

Brandon has long been known to RAFO questions many times and then answer them at some later point. Sometimes, that's far less than 9 months later. For example, The Letter. I know people were trying to get him to confirm that Hoid wrote it, but he kept RAFOing it. I finally asked him at the Rithmatist signing in June 2013 about Hoid having things he shouldn't since he had the Element and the bead of Lerasium. And that's when Brandon said the two were the same, tacitly confirming (finally) that Hoid wrote the Letter. After that, he started answering direct questions about Hoid and The Letter. I think the reason he answered this one about Bavadin is partially because of Shadows and partially because Seonid is a Sharder and Brandon knew it. That's just a guess though.

Long Game 16: The Empty Throne Part 2: The Catacombs
little wilson replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I see you've forgotten about the zombie game. How could you? All the effort you took toward stabbing me in the back so many times, only for me to rise from the grave and watch you die in the end wasn't worth remembering? I'm hurt, Araris. Hurt. Kind of like I was hurt when Gamma shot me the face right after I watched you die, but that's irrelevant....- 529 replies

The way the game is played is that a question is asked, and if no one can answer it after a given amount of time (I usually wait somewhere between 3 days to a week), the asker answers it and asks a new question. If someone does answer it, they then make sure they answered correctly and if they didn't, they post a funny picture/gif. Landis can do that, if he doesn't want to answer it or if no one else wants to answer it. But since you want an answer, here: LHR - London Heathrow LGW - London Gatwick VCE - Venice VIE - Vienna EDR - Newark MUC - Munich ORL - Orlando GVA - Geneva ZRH - Zurich AUS - Austin, Texas EDI - Edinburgh TXL - Berlin/Tegel FCO - Rome ARN - Stockholm/Arlanda ORY - Paris/Orly MEL - Melbourne CHC - Christchurch DUB - Dublin MCI - Kansas City SNN - Shannon, Ireland For a new question, WLIU name 20 characters who have been in Agents of SHIELD (not actors).

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!

Yesterday, I had a tickling in my sinuses I thought was allergies. It wasn't. I went to bed last night with chills, congestion, a post-nasal drip, and internal aches all over my body. I woke up this morning to the same, but they'd found a friend: a sore throat. Feels like a fairly nasty cold virus, since I don't usually ache or have chills from colds (unless there's a fever involved). And unfortunately, I get to work today as well, since we only get 5 (unpaid) days off per quarter, and that includes both vacation and sick days, and I just took practically all of those last week. Go me. So now I get to use an unholy amount of hand sanitizer and pop throat losanges all day, while working in a room that I swear has no working heater. In the middle of winter. -
Oh, it's definitely in Orem at the B&N there. I mentioned Jordan Landing simply for completeness sake since I was mentioning the Firefight release.
