The discussion doesn't have to be over. It just needs to move elsewhere on this board. It can continue there, but it's derailed this for over 15 hours, and nothing is getting it back on track even with people noticing that it's getting derailed. This thread has a purpose and it's not to discuss the blight of Western civilization. There *is* a place for that discussion though: in a new thread.

I tried to give blood today. Despite having been poked by needles four times in the last three weeks for blood draws, I wanted to give blood. The Red Cross has been begging me to donate because apparently there's a shortage of O Negative blood (my blood type). Sure, I'm iron deficient (something I just learned last week from the results of the last time I got my blood drawn a little over a week ago), but I've given blood a lot and rarely have problems. They tested my iron levels twice because the first test was .1 short of the low end for iron. This involves a prick of the finger that tends to hurt worse than the actual giving of the blood. But the second test, my levels were fine. So I got to attempt to give blood. I say attempt because I spent 10 minutes with a needle in my arm, having them fiddle with it, trying to get my blood to go faster, because apparently it started clotting almost right off the bat. So they couldn't get the full pint. I don't even think they got half a pint, which means they can only use it for research purposes and not to actually help anyone. So I just got poked three times for nothing. And my arm is killing me. It's been almost two hours and it still hurts to bend it. I'm nearly certain I'm going to have a decent-sized bruise. I should've just left after the first prick test failed...

Oh, I don't trust government to make the right choice, and especially not big government. However, I don't want to get political, so I'll just say that what I do trust is my friends. If I were friends with Tony Stark and he were on a committee like this, I'd talk to him to figure out his gameplan. And I'd trust him not to screw it up by pissing everyone off and making things worse for his people. He's sarcastic and abrasive, but he does have a lot of clout. If his plan was reasonable, I'd give him a chance to pull it off. I'd help him out where I could. I actually think that's one of the reasons the "So was I" line is so powerful. Cap is doing so much for Bucky, but he couldn't trust Tony (from how it seems in the trailer. Which is likely not the case in the movie. There's far more going on than what we've seen).
-
I agree about mass registration. I think that's a violation, but it would definitely happen, given an opportunity. In that sense, I agree with Cap. My reasons for fundamentally opposing him is the platform he's using for it: Bucky. There should be an investigation into Bucky's actions. But maybe there was. Maybe they tried to bring Bucky in, but Cap blocked them by defending his friend. Maybe Bucky did something else and the officials decided that he was too much of a threat to warrant an investigation of his past crimes due to his recent crime, and Cap went to his friend's rescue. Maybe they did an investigation and found Bucky to have been in partial control of himself and Cap disagreed with the results. We don't know right now. What we do know is that Bucky committed crimes, and yes, he was brainwashed into committing those, but he still committed them, and there's some recompense that's needed for those crimes. We also know that people are trying to either take Bucky into custody or kill him. And we know that Cap is defending Bucky with all his power, to the point of betraying some of his former friends. I'll admit that I'm not familiar with the comics, so I don't know the Civil War arc, but a bit ago, someone I know who is very familiar with that arc explained that Iron Man was backing the laws and registration efforts as a way to soften those same laws. If you've got a group of people making laws about superhumans, the best way to make sure those laws don't violate the rights of law-abiding superhumans is to have at least one superhuman on that council. I think that's what Tony's doing. He's trying to make sure that law-abiding superhumans don't have their rights stripped, but that's a fairly delicate process, since people tend to fear what they don't understand and what they can't control, which means that there will be those pushing for mass registration, but I'd be willing to bet Tony isn't one of those. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if he'd be pushing more for registration of those who break laws. Sort of like a sex offender list. You're not on the list until you do something wrong and cause harm to someone with your powers and then you're registered. At least, that's what I'd do in Tony's position. But like I said, that's a delicate process when you're dealing with fear. You've got to be able to convince those pushing against you that your way is right. How easy do you think that would be when all of a sudden Captain America himself is fighting you head to head? Bucky could've been a reconciliation piece. Here's the Winter Soldier, who killed a lot of people but there's evidence he was brainwashed. Let's investigate this and if we find he's guilty, we can put him on trial and register him. Let's work this out like adults and not let fear control us. But then Captain America refuses to cooperate, even going so far as to fight an old friend and bring other superhumans in to help him out. That's not going to make Tony's job any easier. In fact, that's going to make it impossible. Cap's proving to those pushing for mass registration that that's the way to go. They'll be even more adamant that that's the only way to deal with superhumans. Granted, this is based solely on the trailer, and there are no doubt a lot of extenuating circumstances that made this into what it is, but from the base read that I'm getting from it right now with Cap defending Bucky to keep him from being registered..... I've got to side with Tony.
-
I see both sides of the fight between Iron Man and Cap, but ultimately, I'm Team Iron Man. I fundamentally oppose Team Cap. Not that I disagree with rights and freedom and all of that, because I don't. I think it's a great thing to fight for, but using Bucky to do it? Bucky was used and abused and forced to become the criminal he became. If anything, I'd think that would make Cap more likely to support laws that limit that kind of stuff. Instead he's coming down to defend his friend in a way that not only defends his friend but also defends any other enhanced/Inhuman who uses their powers to harm others. To reference AoS, for every decent enhanced, there's a not-so-decent one. Laws are there to protect people, to make the whole safer. They also make it really easy to punish someone who's hurting people, because you don't have to define moral code or anything like that. You can just point to a law and say "You broke this; here's the consequence." While I think it's great that Cap is fighting for freedom and rights and defending his friend, that friend is a criminal and a perfect example, no matter how you look at it, of why the laws Cap is fighting against are necessary.

So I've been feeling very drained of energy lately. No motivation or desire to really do anything that I usually like to do. It's a feeling that started in May/June and has been getting progressively worse until now I come home from work feeling like my soul has been sucked out of me. I thought it was my thyroid, since my family has a history of that. So I went to the doctor a few weeks ago. He had me get a blood test. Went back in today for the results hoping and expecting to hear that I have hypothyroidism (which the doctor was also expecting it to be). I don't. At least, my levels were normal. You'd think that would be a good thing to hear, right? It's not. Because my antibodies levels were very much not normal. And that's not treatable like hypothyroidism is. So here I was expecting to figure out exactly what's been going on with me so I can fix it and start feeling like myself again and now I still don't know anything really. I'm just sitting in Costco waiting for the nurse to call me back to tell me they sent this prescription over, so I can take a pill to get another blood test that will hopefully tell me what's wrong but it probably won't because why would it? I hate my thoughts right now.

So this may seem like really lame good news, but I just got absurdly happy about it, so I'm saying it anyway. I do a lot of family history/genealogy stuff, and I use a variety of sites to do this. Predominantly Ancestry, where my main tree is. However, in order to actually do anything with my ancestors, I need to use Family Search (the LDS genealogy site). However, Family Search is terrible because anyone with an account can do anything on it and anything they do affects everyone else, since it's an open tree. You want to delete this person? You just deleted that person for everyone. You want to put that you're related to Odin of Asgard? Now anyone related to you is now related to Odin. (That's actually true. I was having a contest with a college roommate once to see who we were related to according to Family Search and I came across Odin, who had sons named Thor and Loki. No joke). There are people who were born after their children. Or people who died 100 years before their last child was born. People who were only 2 when their first child was born. There's a lot of just wrong information on Family Search. So I hate using it for my main family history stuff. But Ancestry has this nifty little feature that connects ancestors to the correct person on Family Search, allows you to compare them, and transfer information/sources between the two sites really easily. A click of a button, load, and it's done. Super convenient. Well, Ancestry has this New Ancestry site. It's been running for over a year I think, and I've tried it out a bit, but I always go back to old Ancestry because that compare-to-Family Search feature isn't available on the new site. I'd always let support know why I'm switching back, in hopes that eventually they'd implement that feature. Every time I'd switch back to the old site, I'd get this warning that soon New Ancestry would be the only Ancestry, and that worried me because if that happened, and that feature wasn't there, I'd have to spend hours transferring information where before it took minutes. Ancestry sent me an email today, telling me that on December 15th, New Ancestry will be the only Ancestry. So I go and check New Ancestry again, clicking on one of my ancestors, and looking around his profile to see if this feature is on there. And, lo and behold, it is. There's a little Family Search icon right near the top that shows if the person is connected to Family Search or not, and if they are, you can compare/transfer all that info. And now I'm really happy, because I've always liked the look of this new site. It's different, but it's very streamlined and now I can actually use it.

Long Game 15: ...The Shards Themselves...

Ooooh, can I be the most hated SE player ever? Most lynch-votes? Pretty please? Right now, the person who holds that distinction is Winter, with 17 votes in LG12. We have 27 players left in this game. I have 12 votes currently. Let's make this happen. Let's make my dream come true! Oh, also, since Ada is willing to make this about democracy, I'll join in too. Ada. There's definitely something funky going on there. I think he needs to die.... Alvron. Because why not? He and I could totally be evil together. It wouldn't wreck game balance at all. Nope. Long Game 15: ...The Shards Themselves...
little wilson replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Wynde walked through the the ship, eyeing the crew members she passed. A few, like Gaius and Tigger, glared at her with open hostility. Most just ignored her. She refused to let any of their glares get to her. They didn’t understand, nor would they ever. She hummed as she walked along, a little tune she’d heard somewhere. She stared out a porthole watching the nothingness of space pass by. And then words came to her--words perfect for the tune. “Look at me You may think you see Who I really am. But you’ll never know me. Every day, It’s as if I play a part. Now, I see, If I wear a mask, I could fool the crew, But I cannot fool my heart.” That much was surely true. She could see herself on the glass, reflected by the light behind her. She wasn’t sure she recognized the girl she saw. “Who is that girl I see, Staring straight back at me? When will my reflection show Who I am inside? I am now on a ship Where I have to hide my heart And what I believe in. But somehow, I will show the crew What’s inside my heart, And be killed for who I am.” She knew that was true. She’d be killed mercilessly. Tigger was already champing at the bit to get at her. “Who is that girl I see Staring straight back at me? Why is my reflection Someone I don’t know?” If she’d wanted to, she probably could’ve fooled them all, but she didn’t want to. “Must I pretend that I’m someone else For all time? When will my reflection show The traitor I am inside? Why must we all conceal What we think, how we feel? Must there be a secret me I’m forced to hide? I won’t pretend that I’m Someone else, for all time.” She knew her time was up. The odds were slim that a kandra hadn’t scanned her last night, with the urgency Davenar had placed on that. Her cover was blown, even if she hadn’t been outed yet. She turned around, facing the crew. “Now may my reflection show The traitor I am inside.” She refused to have death come to her on someone else’s terms. She’d face it on her own, choose it herself. She would gladly embrace that side of her that desperately needed to throw off the tyrannical rule of the Captain. Openly, without fear. It was who she was, and she was tired of suppressing it. The rest of the crew might be okay repressing the enslaving power of Heron Industries--that vampiric Megacorporation that thrived on sucking the life out of everything it touched--but she wouldn’t. Maybe, with her example, the rest would find the courage to throw off their bonds, setting themselves free of their slave drivers. Maybe. She could see her death coming. It was so close. But death was only the beginning, right? It’s the next great adventure….. “Now may my reflection show the traitor I am inside.”- 1686 replies

Okay. Name 7 Sharders who live/work in Australia. You cannot name yourself if you live/work there.

To add to Elbereth's three (since Kipper lives in the DC area so is therefore American), there's also Orlok and Adamir. And JoeST.... But I'll let you pick the next question.

How have you ever gotten the impression that that isn't something that I would do? Do you not remember in LG12, when Mek and Orlok were on the line, I came forward and said "Hey, I don't think either of these two are eliminators, but I'm curious about these 4 people who haven't posted but I've seen watching the thread. Maybe we should lynch one of them." And then we did. I placed the first vote on Feligon and about 5-6 others followed suit in the next 45 minutes and he died. I was about to vote for Shallan for lurking as it was but then she posted. I read the post, didn't feel that it contributed enough for me to change my opinion about her and I voted on her.- 1686 replies

Long Game 15: ...The Shards Themselves...
little wilson replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
See, usually, I do that too, because I don't like getting into specifics in the thread. But it seems that people are really listening to me when I say that real life is busy and I can't devote as much time to this game as I have to past games. Your aggression and demanding a response from me right then is clear proof of that. I've tried to keep details out, but if people aren't actually going to listen to the vague stuff about car insurance and medical/health things, then, yes. I'm going to get more specific. And you can wonder if I'm trying to appeal to empathy, but I'm not. I'm simply being truthful. My time is severely limited and this is why. As for why it was relevant right then, well that's because good deception and manipulation takes time, as any good deceiver and manipulator knows. I do not have the time for that. You said that you had heard about my great deviousness and manipulation skills. Most times, that's accurate. Most times, I have far more time at my disposal. Right now, I do not. As I have said since the game started. One, don't believe everything you hear. My reputation is greatly exaggerated, and is usually boosted by those who know that it's greatly exaggerated. Two, this situation with Stink is not the same. Usually, I have far more information at my disposal and am able to better ascertain the guilt/innocence of someone. I have no information outside of my PM with Stink on this. I have never said that I was certain that Stink was a Traitor. I said that I believed he could be. I think he is. Granted, I've been known to stay gunning for someone when I just think that a person is evil. This is when I am the person with pretty much all of the information. Or one of those people. I am not in that position right now. That's you. If you're saying you want to back off Stink, and Kipper is agreeing that Stink probably isn't evil, then I'm willing to retract my vote in favor of the people who have more information. Note that I did not say that I was going to forget about Stink. I'm still going to watch him, because I still don't trust him. As for the discrepancies, he implied to me that no one had told him their role. This comment was made directly after I confirmed his guess about Maill. He basically say "Yay, someone finally told me a role and it's not even theirs." Nowhere in that statement is there even an indication that someone had roleclaimed to him prior. Yet he is saying he had a roleclaim in the first 24 hours of the game. This seems like some pretty severe backpedaling to me. Now, I'm not saying that he should've said in my PM that he'd had a Forger roleclaim to him. I'm the one who took his statements as him being a Forger, so that's on me. I'm saying that his comment in his show of joy is contradictory to what he's claiming is true now. Either he was lying when he was joyous (which is a somewhat difficult time to really lie, if it's genuine), or he's made up a Forger to cover himself. I'm confused about where I twisted your words to make you sound more certain than you were. And yes, I'm sure a lot of people would love to catch a Traitor Wilson on D2. Difficult, but not impossible. Demanding someone respond to you is an act of so complete aggression that it immediately raises a person's hackles. Not to mention that it sucks the fun right of a game. My time is not yours to demand. It is mine. Request next time.- 1686 replies

As Meta is not around right now to make an announcement, I will do so. This forum operates on the rules of the site, found here. We also have our own Etiquette Policy, found here. Two things I want to quote from the Etiquette Policy: This forum is not like other mafia/werewolves/elimination games forums some of you may have played at. We are all for differing playstyles and there is no one "right" way to play. That said, aggressive behavior is contrary to the Etiquette Policy. These are games. They will always be games. Everyone is expected to treat everyone else with respect. Thank you.- 1686 replies

Long Game 15: ...The Shards Themselves...
little wilson replied to Wyrmhero's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Yes, I was online. It was 5:30 AM, my phone had just woken me up from a facebook chat, and I decided to check the site briefly before going back to sleep. I occasionally do that when it's the middle of the night. It takes something rather large to get me to actually bring out my laptop and post though. I didn't view calling me out like that as being large enough to sacrifice my sleep. Sorry, not sorry. I don't really have much to say about either of yours or Kipper's posts, because I know my alignment and I'm perfectly willing to submit to a kandra scan. You mentioned my deviousness and manipulation though, concerning Maill's role and giving it to Stink. I don't have as much time to devote to this game as I usually do. I've mentioned this in part already, both in thread and in some PMs, but I've got car insurance issues I'm dealing with concerning an accident I got in almost a month ago that hasn't been sorted out yet. On top of that, I'm also working on some health/medical things with my thyroid and my back. Most of my free time comes on the weekend, and I try to make as much of that as I can. Subtracting sleep, I had about 12 hours to PM people freely after I got off work at 5 PM on Friday. I nearly forgot about giving Stink Maill's name (which is why there was a 2 hour gap between my PM to Maill and my PM to Stink). When I remembered, I wasn't trying to do anything malicious. I was telling Stink Maill's name and the reason that I believed that Maill could be trusted with a stamp. Yes, I'd had minor suspicions of Stink before I told him this, but I knew there was a good chance that that was paranoia. Yes, he had opportunity to be evil, but there wasn't really anything incriminating beyond that. When it comes to these games, I have no problem sharing my reasoning, even with people that I suspect, particularly if it's tying them down into doing something specific. If something gets messed up, that gives me information and a lead. Now, do I usually give roles? No. I don't. Not sensitive roles like a Hemalurgist. But at that point in time, I wasn't thinking about what my reasoning for trusting Maill would tell Stink. I was reasoning about why Maill would be a good person to give a stamp to and why I didn't think he was a traitor trying to get a role. Simple as that. It wasn't until Stink asked if Maill was a Hemalurgist that I realized what I'd done. Even then, I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. When he reacted the way he did.....not so much. I still think something is off with Stink, but I'm not certain about that at all. I am certain about what he said versus what I said and that there are discrepancies there. I think those discrepancies warrant more looking into, but if you guys want to look past those and trust him, fine. Stink. I do not agree with calling for a no lynch today, because it's under threat of lynch and death that we learn things. Yes, we can discuss during the day and during PMs and all of that and we can rely on the kandra scans to solve the mystery for us, but where's the fun in that? Relying on the kandra is a follow the cop strategy, and those are lame. I would rather be killed right now in this lynch than spend the rest of the game following around after the kandra. "Oh, this person is evil!" says Adavantos. "Let's kill them!" And everyone blindly follows suit. That's no fun. But since people don't want to go for Stink, I'm willing to look elsewhere. Ripple. You seem a little too certain about me. You're also reading a little over-much into my words to try to twist them to come back on me. I wasn't confident in Stink's role. I admitted that he hadn't fully claimed Forger, so I knew there was a small chance that he wasn't when I first mentioned him being a Forger. I acknowledged this. My questions to him were to figure out the reasons for the discrepancies I had noted. That post was willing to accept that he was being honest about being in contact with a Forger, but since his being in contact with a Forger contradicted something else he'd said, I was trying to sort out what was truth from what was lie. Yet you're saying that I'm "confident concerning [his] role". Why? Perhaps because you want to make people think that I know more than I do? That I'm "confident" about more than I should be? I wasn't any more certain than I should've been based on the way that Stink had acted in my PM with him, and I made that very clear. All of the information from my PM with Stink is here, in the thread. My reason for believing he was Forger, my reason for telling him about Maill. All of it. I made logical assumptions with the information I had. Those were partly wrong, but I still think it was logical. You also reinforce the idea that the Surgebinder's purpose was reverse psychology. If I were a traitor, I'd have no reason to use reverse psychology like that. In fact, I would avoid having my name mentioned in that kind of a note, since it just throws me back into the spotlight--somewhere that I don't particularly like being when I'm evil. I much prefer the sidelines and one-on-one communication. I was already suspected due to the Shallan-lynch and while a note like that could reduce suspicion on me, that gets into the realm of I Know You Knows, and I avoid those like the plague. I would not do that. Go ahead and spin your paranoid webs saying that "well, that's precisely the reason why she would," but the fact remains that I would not and did not. So someone who already seems so certain about me pushing the idea that I did makes me even more wary. Why would you be suggesting that, unless it's part of the plan to get me lynched? Patience, young one. It's a virtue.- 1686 replies
