    Term 4: Month 2 - When the Insane Complain [writeup to be edited in] Just to let you know, this writeup will contain a hint about someone with an object. Varda Elentari (Elbereth) was brought on the Horns and charged with Conduct Unbecoming! She was lashed. Reader (The Only Joe) was brought on the Horns and charged with Conduct Unbecoming! He was lashed! Dow (Dowanx) was brought on the Horns and charged with Conduct Unbecoming! He was expelled! Touka Kirishima (DeathClutch19) went insane! He is now in the Crockery! These students were elevated: Wilem, Haelbarde, Pyra Ghetti, Corrin, Danosaur, Sev Also, I apologize for the lack of warning about Daylight Savings Time, though it wouldn't have changed the time period in which the cycle ended. It works best for us GMs if we keep the cycle ending at 5:30pm my time, since Orlok is in Britain, and this means he doesn't have to stay up quite so late to help with the rollover.

    Exactly. A number of players placed orders saying that they wanted to be in a location until they said otherwise, and we allowed it at first because it made sense, flavor-wise, but if we're not allowing in perpetua impressions (which we're not), and we're forcing people to be active in that way, then players should have to be active (and paying attention) in order to stay at the place they want to stay.

    The Linguistic Analyst is not told when someone told the truth. They're simply told when someone lied. If you don't know you're lying, then they'll simply be told that you didn't tell a lie. Just because you didn't tell a lie doesn't mean everything you said is true. It's simple not a lie, as far as the speaker knows.

    The writeup is up. I wanted to add a part with the assassin, but I'll just save what I've got for another time. Sorry it took so long to get up. I've been really busy the last couple days and haven't been able to work on it after I get home from work. But it's up now so analyze away.

    Term 3: Month 2 - Mercenaries and Music Don’t Mix Marcos sat on the street corner down from Anker’s, strumming away on his lute. His day had been very productive. He and Acaelus had finally found Seventh Son “Sev”, and Marcos had been able to return that journal he’d found. Sev had seemed very appreciative for having his journal back in his possession, but he’d seemed equally wary of the knowledge that Marcos and Acaelus had of his true name. He’d offered them 10 talents each to not tell anyone. Vintish noblemen. Marcos wished he had the money to spare to bribe someone similarly. He rolled his eyes. His coinpurse was 10 talents heavier now, and he had every intention of using it to find a better home than Anker’s once rooms opened up at the inns again. He wouldn’t mind sleeping in the Horse and Four, but that was a little too extravagant for him. Maybe the Golden Pony…..Hm. That could work, yes. After seeing the common room at the Horse and Four, he figured he could stand to live in a bit wealth. He turned his attention back onto his lute and his little song. People passed by, and he tried to pull them in with the the music, but they simply hurried by, intent on not listening to him. They probably thought he mustn’t have a shred of talent in his body, but they would be dreadfully wrong. He was prodigy. Everyone said so. Well, everyone who’d heard him play or sing said so. When they actually paid attention. Unlike these people hurrying by his free show. They had the chance of a lifetime: to see the performance of a person worthy of the Eolian, but no. They’d have none of it. Their loss. He heard a scuffle from an alley across the street and brought his head up, curious to see what was going on. There wasn’t much. Just a figure cloaked in shadow holding up some device. There wasn’t even anyone around the figure. Likely just some person who’d find themselves hauled off to the Crockery soon. The insane didn’t interest Marcos, so he focused once again on his lute and his song. He noticed a woman walking down the road, a horse trailing along behind her. The hilt of a sword protruded over the woman’s shoulder, and the setting sun glinted off pieces of metal on her arms and legs. Daggers, Marcos guessed. Looked like a mercenary. Her face was like a rock, which reminded Marcos that people often said his voice could charm rock. Marcos cocked his head to the side. His voice could charm rocks. This woman looked like a rock. Marcos wondered if he could charm her. He played a little louder, staring at the target of his song. She looked down at him, and stopped when she noticed him staring at her. Her eyes narrowed in disdain, so Marcos started singing along to the music, making up words, describing the way she looked in the soft red-orange light of the sun. Her eyes narrowed further, and Marcos realized that maybe this wasn’t the best idea he’d ever had. Serenading a mercenary? What if he said something she didn’t like? What if he sang a note that gave her a headache? What if….. She pulled out one of her daggers, crouched next to him, and placed the cool steel blade next to his throat, all in one swift movement. Marcos’ song cut off with a squeak, and he leaned back into the brick wall behind him, staring up at her with wide eyes. He shivered as she glared down at him. Definitely not his best idea. Her lip curled in disgust as she noticed him shivering and she pressed the blade into his throat. He felt something run down his skin onto his chest and knew she’d pierced his skin. He gulped, and then realized that was a bad idea with a blade pressed against his Adam’s apple. The blade dug into his throat a little deeper, and he realized he needed to do something if he wanted to survive. His eyes darted up and down the road but no one noticed him and the mercenary huddled on the side. His hand gripped his lute tighter in panic, hoping that somehow, someone would look over and see the struggle. His thoughts came to a screeching halt. His lute. It pained him to think of using it as a weapon, something that made such beautiful music. But he could always buy a new one. He couldn’t buy a new life. He shifted, trying to make it look natural, like he was trying to squirm away from her, and it freed his arm enough so he had room to swing the lute up and against her side. Or at least, he attempted to do so. She caught his arm and knocked the lute out of his grasp. The lute hit the cobblestone and Marcos heard the wood splinter. He cringed, closing his eyes and turning away from his broken lute and broken dreams. A second later, the dagger sliced quickly across his throat, ending his short life. Delta the Insane (Paranoid King) was assassinated! He was a Student who had studied in Archives and Alchemy! Marcos Mayweather (Mark IV) was killed by a mercenary! He was a Student who had studied in Linguistics! These students were elevated: Danosaur, Varda Elentari, Wilem, Silverblade, Acaelus Starfire, Touka Kirishima, Mac n Cheese, and Sev.

    I can't speak for all the Kendra's in the world, but perhaps if it were made of chocolate, I'd be able to eat a chasmfiend.....maybe. Pretty sure I wouldn't want to attempt it though.... If you're wondering what in the world I'm talking about, look at the title. If the typo in the title has been fixed, allow me to provide this screenshot I've got of it: Sorry.     Term 3: Month 1 - Where the River Meets the Ocean Delta sat near the Omethi River, deep in thought. To say his day had been eventful would be an understatement. First he’d been brought On the Horns, and when he’d asked the Masters what the charge against him was, they seemed flummoxed, and eventually had a runner go out to get the actual file on him. Apparently, some degenerate (Delta was determined to find out who this person was) had simply wished to file a complaint about someone and had randomly chosen him. He could not fathom how or why, since he was as common as common gets. No one looked at him. Well, except the Masters. A number of them had decided that the complaint was actually valid (a curse be on their houses), and had charged him. Sure, it was only Undignified Mischief, which was hardly anything, but still. He was indignant. He hadn’t done any mischief. He was as unmischievous as a person could get. Delta sighed. Now there was a blemish on his pristine record. He’d never, ever stepped out of line in his entire life. And yet, here he was in his second term at the University, and he had a charge. Ah, well. At least there was a plus to the whole “being brought On the Horns” thing. He’d been elevated. Again. He was now a Re’lar, and he proud of his rank! He was also greatly looking forward to his new studies. He had so much open to him! All the possibilities! Well, not quite all. But still! A lot! Who cared about being brought On the Horns and charges, especially such frivolous ones. He refused to let that get him down. He nodded, making up his mind. He’d simply throw himself into his studies. Surely the Masters wouldn’t charge him with anything else, when they could see how dedicated he was. Surely no one else would complain about him for such a horrible reason, when he was simply trying to study! He stood, intent on walking back to the University to start his plan. He’d make them all see that he wasn’t as common as he seemed. Yes. Yes, he would. He stepped toward the bridge, but then he lost his footing, and ended up stepping on a mud patch, which caused him to slip and slide straight toward the river! Delta couldn’t swim. He flailed his arms trying to catch himself on something, anything, before plummeting into the cold water right in front of him, but there was nothing to grab. Only mud. Slippery mud. Suddenly, Delta was wet. Very, very wet. And cold. And, worst of all, he was sinking. He kicked his legs and flailed his arms some more, hoping that maybe he’d break the surface of the water and perhaps someone would see him. His attempts were unsuccessful. As his gulped in water and his vision went dark, he heard a faint splash above him, and something grabbed his arm. And then he blacked out. Acaelus Starfire was brought On the Horns, but the charges were dropped! Sev was brought On the Horns, but the charges were dropped! Delta was brought On the Horns and charged with Undignified Mischief! If he hadn’t gone insane, he would have to RP an apology! Kipper was brought On the Horns and charged with Undignified Mischief! He needs to RP an apology. Amari (Araris Valerian) was brought On the Horns and charged with Conduct Unbecoming! He received lashes for his punishment. Delta (Paranoid King) went insane! He is now in the Crockery. These students were elevated: Kipper, Acaelus, Amari, Mind of Akasha, Delta, Sasuke Uchia, Dow, Silverblade

Don't forget to get your actions in (if you have them) and your lodging requests--particularly your lodging, since this time, I won't be lenient and give people 12 hours to change their lodging. What you send (or don't send) is what you get. And the mercenaries roaming the streets really like to kill.

    Since I forgot to comment on this last turn and the turn before, let me do so now: The part in the rules about tuition being calculated each month and averaged together didn't actually make it into the spreadsheet. Right now, the spreadsheet factors tuition on a term basis, so no averaging. Could I change the functions to make it an average and therefore fit what's in the rules? Yes. Do I want to? Not particularly, since I've already broken the tuition spreadsheet once and I'd really prefer not to break it again. So don't worry about averaging your months/turns to get the lowest tuition.

    Talent Pipes are passable once and only once, so if you give someone your Talent Pipes, you cannot get them back.

    Failed sabotages (and insanity rolls that would put the person over but are adjusted by a roll to help the person) are shown in the writeup and the results will simply say that someone started showing signs of cracking, but took steps to mitigate that. It's not said which one it is. This was not the case here, since it's not in the results. Yes, to both. At least, if the protection fought off the sabotage, the player would be informed of it. Otherwise, they have no idea that they were protected.

    Term 2: Month 2 - And the Streets Will Run with Blood Ashad coughed and wrapped his cloak around him tighter as he walked down the street towards the alley he called home. He passed by an unlit doorway and heard two people arguing. They seemed to be in a disagreement, one of them thinking one thing, the other thinking something else, but Ashad didn’t stick around to listen. He wasn’t one to eavesdrop on conversations. Plus, he was starving. And he was cold. And he just….well. Generally didn’t feel well at all. Maybe he was coming down with something. He grimaced. When he got to his little corner of the alley, he picked up his thin blanket and wrapped it around him, sitting down, and pulling out the small sack of bread he’d tucked behind a pile of trash. He peeked inside, pulling out a small loaf, and began to eat. Once he was done, he put the sack back, hiding it so no one could find it, and curled up under the blanket. His head rested on his moldy-rag pillow, and while it wasn’t the most comfortable place he’d ever slept, it wasn’t too bad. ….Oh, who was he kidding. The cobblestones dug into his back, and he always woke up every morning stiff as a board, with aches in places he didn’t even know you could ache. It was horrible. And the pillow. It was the only thing softer than stone he’d been able to find to use as a pillow, but it smelled foul and it left his hair with a stench he just couldn’t wash out, and that meant that people skirted around him when he went to class. His social life was wretched. All because he was here on the streets. Why hadn’t he gotten a room at an inn? It’s not like he didn’t have the money for it. He did. He’d just…..let all the fun at the University suck up all his time and by the time he realized he needed a new place to live, he’d lost his room at the Golden Pony, and all the other inns on this side of the river were booked up solid! But he couldn’t just desert his studies! No! He’d paid good money to study here, and he intended to see that through, at least to the end of this term. A shadow fell over him, and he felt a metal-toed boot dig into his back. “Get out of me way, street rat,” a low voice growled. Ashad rolled over and stared up at a burly man. Scar tissue covered most of his face, and he was missing an eye. The mercenary didn’t even bother to put an eye patch on to cover the fact that his eye had been dug right out of his skull. It was just there. The marks and everything. All-in-all, Ashad could easily say that this was the scariest man he’d ever laid eyes on. He scrambled up, dropping his blanket in the process, and stood against the stone wall of the alley, to give the man clear room to move on. But the mercenary tripped over the blanket, and barely caught himself before falling flat on his face. He rounded on Ashad, whose eyes widened in panic. He only got two steps down the alley before the mercenary grabbed him. He let out a blood-curdling scream, but the only person (other than the mercenary) who heard was the shopkeeper of the building next door, who promptly shut the door to block out the scream, not wanting to get involved with a mercenary on business. The last sound Ashad made was a gurgle as he choked on his own blood. Ashad (Mashadar Mistborn) was brought On the Horns, but the charges were dropped! Pyra Ghetti (Burnt Spaghetti) was brought On the Horns, but the charges were dropped! Marcos Mayweather (Mark VI) was brought On the Horns, but the charges were dropped!
