Kaladins gonna fall in love with veil(spoilers)
Twenty@20 replied to Wit422's topic in Stormlight Archive
I thought there was a possibility of Shallan having to decide between maintaining unity with Dalinar versus giving full support to Adolin, if(and thats a big if) the father-son duo become estranged. Of course she wouldn't breakup with Adolin over it but she will also have to keep in mind that Radiants arguing against each other will not be helpful either.Ya, Adolin going on a suicide mission is also another possibility. Perhaps he will bond a spren or say some oaths then. -
I thought the minion's crime was not having proper documentation to execute Gawx not the attempted murder itself. Azir clearly allows constables to execute thieves if a leave of execution is obtained. Its like riding a train with ticket. If you don't have one pay a fine and get an on-the-spot ticket. (Poor analogy I admit. Can't think of a better one)A point I want to raise is regarding selective implementation of laws. A private citizen only needs to follow laws that directly affects him. A constable on the other hand, is legally bound to ensure all laws are obeyed under his jurisdiction. Catching thieves while ignoring other criminals is kind of abetting them. I also wonder whether it is lawful for the police to have any hidden agenda or personal motive when going after criminals? Shouldn't they act without malice or bias? If a constable has personal vendetta against the criminal he caught, isn't there a risk of miscarriage of justice?

I would expect that, as the Herald of Justice, would not follow any law which permits human slavery because slavery is the epitome of injustice. Owning a slave, let alone killing him on a whim is something we should not expect from Nale. I know the slavery law is only a hypothetical situation, but I cannot imagine the Herald of Justice in that situation.

Shallan's mother's affiliations are definitely suspect. The fact she decided to kill Shallan soon after she manifested surgebinding is very similar to Nalan's philosophy. The only thing which doesn't fit is why Shallan was never attacked again. Nalan had a very good legal excuse to kill Shallan but strangely never came for her. If Heralan was a Skybreaker who followed Nalan's philosophy then he should have checked the facts of the double murder in his own house. I doubt he would have killed his sister but one never knows. Perhaps the fact that Shallan never surgebinded again after her mother's death save her. Have we seen Nalan surgebinding with his Honorblade (assuming he got his back) or does he also follow his "no surgebinding" policy? Edit: Good point Moogle regarding Shallan's father and Ghostblood connection. Heralan's chances of working for Ghostbloods seems dead and buried.

You have a point there. It makes me wonder how were Amaram and SoH trying to bring about a desolation. If that is why Nalan sent Heralan to kill him, that means Amaram and SoH knew something about the business of starting desolations and Nalan got wind of it. Now I haven't seen evidence that suggests the SoH had anything to do with the onset of the Everstorm and coming of Voidbringers. Did the SoH recover the black sphere of Gavilar from Szeth's hiding place and hand it over to Venli? I think unlikely. They don't seem competent enough to pull that off. So why did Nalan seriously take them as a threat that could return the desolation? And once Heralan failed, why was there no further attack on not only Amaram but entire SoH. A point regarding Restares. If we assume Heralan was Restares' secret weapon then he must have given Heralan a complete set of shards which was unknown to Amaram. It seems unlikely that SoH have a cache of shards considering Amaram, a high-ranking member was not provided one.

Kaladins gonna fall in love with veil(spoilers)
Twenty@20 replied to Wit422's topic in Stormlight Archive
While I agree that Adolin may think himself to be not worthy enough for Shallan, I think he won't mind too much that Shallan and Kal cuddled in the chasms, considering they were in a life and death situation. Adolin is practical enough to know that in such situations social etiquette goes for a toss (yes I am referring to the shardshitting tale ) An added source of confict may arise depending on Adolin's future vis-à-vis Sadeas' death. Shallan may have to decide to what extent she can support Adolin, if Dalinar or the nobility in general wants to punish Adolin. On the other hand, this crisis may lead to strengthening their love. Who knows with coming desolation, they may decide to marry quickly so that they can take care I'd other things. You would love that Maxal, wouldn't you? -
Could a Seer take down a shardbearer?
Twenty@20 replied to Natanaj's topic in General Brandon Discussion
@Outis. This discussion regarding passive abilities has been discussed elsewhere but I didn't get involved. Would you mind humoring me for a bit? This is probably off-topic. Shallan doesn't need Stormlight to take memories, so why would Kaladin demonstrate such precognition powers only while taking Stormlight. Mind you I am not talking just about fast reflexes as Kaladin showed during fight with the shardbearer in WoK. When he fights with the Parshendi in WoK or Szeth in WoR, he can almost read the moves before they come. And all those times he was on Stormlight. Just contrast this with his fight with Zehel and Adolin in practice arena where he did not draw Stormlight and was unable to predict their moves. -
OK. Sorry for accusing you.

Jabberwocky did you down vote me?
-
Jabberwocky, I am sorry to say, you shouldn't threaten to down vote people just because they hold views you oppose. This is clearly mentioned in the rules forum. Besides that it is also very rude to say so. If I remember Rubix provided some evidence that Hoid may have written the WoK letter in the "Who is Hoid" thread. If you are still not convinced, join the debate and say why you don't think so. Lastly, I agree that Brandon has not said outright that Hoid wrote the Letter but he hasn't denied it outright too. So speculations are justified. PS: I am going to upvote you so that your rep doesn't crash. But it might help if apologise.

@Patrick. I would like to raise a few points. What is the basis of your assumption that Heralan was working for Skybreakers? Is it only the fact that Mraize mentioned about him searching the Skybreakers? Then a legitimate question will be - how did Mraize know? Did Heralan initially approach Mraize? If so it can't be a stretch to assume that Mraize convinced him to work for him, atleast temporarily. Are you referring to any particular crime of Amaram or are you speaking generally? Nalan during that period was specifically hunting for Surgebinders. And he was extremely proficient at finding them. So it is unlikely he couldn't have known that Amaram was no Surgebinder. So why would he target him? Nalan as we see in Lift interlude doesn't care about hunting murderers or crime bosses just for the sake of it. He targets just surgebinders on legal pretext. So Nalan would never target Amaram. Another point. Amaram and his buddies, Sons of Honor, as we know are high on the Herald fanclub list. So why would they pick a fight with Skybreakers?(that's assuming they even know of the Skybreakers, the blundering idiots that they are)

Could a Seer take down a shardbearer?
Twenty@20 replied to Natanaj's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Congrats on becoming a Seer. Burning atium feels pretty awesome, no? . Are you referring to the theory that Kaladin was sensing his opponent's movements by subtle changes in Atmospheric pressure via his Adhesion surge? If so, I think we should check out if other Orders cannot do the same. And we haven't seen any other Radiant in combat yet. -
Hoid's Immortality is Actually Due to Resurrection
Twenty@20 replied to Titan Arum's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I kind of agree with you that "death" in the cosmere is being redefined by all these super-healing abilities. Our earthside concepts of mortal death certainly won't work when people can recover from beheadings. However we can still try to differentiate actual resurrection from just miraculous healing. I think the benchmark of ressurection in Brandon's work is a certain character from Steelheart ( ). The character actually resurrects in a new body after the old one is destroyed. That I think is an entirely different power from plain old super healing. So if Hoid has the power of resurrection, that is a pretty awesome thing in its own right. Edit: I thought I should explain in cosmere terms. I believe resurrection in Cosmere means the following. Even if the Physical body is destroyed, burned or eaten by a chasmfiend, the Spiritual and Cognitive aspects will remain intact and a new physical body can be rebuilt. This is different from healing the original body.- 25 replies

Hoid's Immortality is Actually Due to Resurrection
Twenty@20 replied to Titan Arum's topic in Cosmere Discussion
@Titan. You might be onto something. Hoid is certainly mysterious with his powers. Remember how he told Jasnah shardblade couldn't harm him. Most likely Brandon is putting Easter eggs for the future. When many years down the line we get to Hoid's story, we will look back to the Way of Kings and have our minds properly blown away in amazement.- 25 replies

One more. This is for the Syl-Nightblood shippers. What would the movie "The Girl Next Door" be called if it featured Syl and Nightblood? The Girl Next Sword.

Not a bar joke but close enough Why did Vasher join Apple? Because he heard it was heavily Invested. What did Nightblood say to Vasher on first day at Apple?

Hey @ Ayesuku, @ iines. What is your favorite Brandon book? Fun question. What would you prefer to be? A Mistborn or a Knight Radiant? See you in the forums.

The other day when I was looking up Amaram I noticed he called Roshone his cousin. And then in WoR Dalinar said this Is Amaram one of these important men whose support Dalinar and co. needed? Did Amaram offer his support to Dalinar only in exchange of pardon for Roshone? In that case we can trace Amaram's role in Kaladin's misfortunes to even earlier than the shard grabing episode.

..and the bar got burned down. Why? Turns out that wasn't Hoid at all. Only a Dragon (insert proper Dragonsteel reference here) who was Lightweaving as Hoid.

I have a feeling that if Heralan was working for Vamah, then he would have been fighting in the Shattered plains for gemhearts instead of border skirmishes. I noticed on the map that Sadeas also has a border with Jah keved. So it can be that Heralan crossed the border there and therefore we saw him breaking through Amaram's ranks. As to his motives I am not sure. Perhaps he was commissioned by one of the societies to kill Amaram. But I don't think it was the Skybreakers. It doesn't look like their MO. Maybe Heralan was promised an intro with the Skybreakers as payment by whoever gave him the job. Therefore Mraize knew that Heralan was seeking the Skybreakers. Now that I think of it, perhaps Heralan too was being used by Ghostbloods. After he failed, Ghostbloods might have changes their tactics and were content to spy on Amaram. Edit:inserted italics word
