  1. Adolin hugged Shallan in Chapter 88 and went on to kill Sadeas in the next chapter. We will see the repercussions of his deed and how he copes with that in the next book. Hence all the speculation
  2. Re: maxal. What I was trying to say is that keeping a shardblade stable after letting go of it is a matter of saying the right command in perhaps a correct frame of mind. Experienced shareholders should not have any trouble with that but inadvertently dropping the blade means there is no time to give the command. Though on second thoughts it looks as if throwing a shardblade and handing it over to someone are different and the second one is easier than the first. But the Adolin scene is definitely meant to highlight his anxiety as he is an expert in giving mental commands (from his own monologue he says he learnt them years ago) to keep his blade intact after throwing. Edit: it seems that purposeful throwing of shardblade with a mental command of stability is something Brandon has not shown frequently. Wondering why since it is an ridiculously easy way to kill on battlefield. Throw blade. Watch it glide through multiple Parshendi. Summon it back. Throwing shardblade is also illegal in duelling arena.
  3. I am sorry to say that Hoid was the recipient of the WoR letter and since that was a reply to the WoK letter, it is safe to say Hoid wrote it. As to who his correspondent is, popular idea around here is that its a dragon from Yolem, perhaps a shardholder who we will get to know in Dragonsteel. As to why I believe it is Hoid to whom the letter was written, it because his correspondent mentions a few pointers. Now who do we have in Stormlight Archive who is has taken a name after a virtue. I can think only of Hoid who calls himself Wit because he is witty. The description sounds suspiciously similar to Hoid who has said to Dalinar that if necessary he would let Roshar burn.
  4. I for one never thought that keeping a shardblade stable out of hand was a big deal. We have seen tons of references to it being done easily. I always got the impression that the scene showing Adolin having problems with his shardblade was intended to highlight Adolin's nervousness or lack of confidence and his anxiety following his encounter with Szeth. I am really like the idea of shardchakra. I am like, dang I should have thought about it earlier being an Indian and all.
  5. Re: Bloodfalcon. I agree with you that the various illusory magics seen on different cosmere planets are not Lightweaving per se. They have only similar end result illusions and their limitations may be same. But I believe any illusion we see perform on Roshar by KR should be called Lightweaving, if only for the sake of simplicity, until Brandon or Peter says otherwise because it is the same Surge and same Stormlight which forms it. Its funny how many people (including me) have quoted that WoB about adjacent orders using their common Surge in the same way but it has not be quoted in full yet. Well I admit I am hopeless at finding WoB's at will but I assure you I have seen it somewhere.
  6. When you try to get your geek friends interested in Stormlight Archive by posing questions like, "What if you can change the direction of gravity at will?" or "What if you can manipulate molecular bonds?"
  7. We see Raoden and Galladon attach illusions to their cloths to change appearances in Elantris. And it looked quite similar to Shallan's illusions.Pattern had said in WoR that Shallan should be able to cast illusions without drawing them out first. Also creating visions in other people's head won't need any light and sound effect. That's will be some sort of telepathic power. Its true we haven't seen Renarin creating illusions but we are only drawing a logical conclusion from two facts that, namely, Renarin has the Surge of Illumination and Brandon said Illumination will be used by both orders in same way. Edit: Outis beat me to the Sel example
  8. I have this quote from The Final Empire which proves your point
  9. I think Mr. Sanderson introduced the idea of Adonalsium as a cosmere wide influence to provoke exactly this debate, whether Adonalsium is God or not. I always thought of the concept of God at two levels. First is a personal one. He is someone we can identify with, who gives us morality, hope and faith. Another idea of God is the external idea of an omnipresent, omnipotent being who is the creator of the universe. This deity is mostly a undefined being because trying to define it limits the scope of the deity. What Brandon did is to create Adonalsium along the lines of this supreme creator and then subverted the trope by having him shattered because that means he is not all-powerful. So is he God or not. The same thing plays out at Roshar with Honor and his splintering.
  10. When you read Justice League and start to wonder if this is how Knight Radiants are going to be. And when Flash starts running you start thinking, "Here comes another Egdedancer".
  11. Well I agree the metals would eventually be returned to the planet. I was just hoping that after burning the metals would be um.. removed from the body by natural means.(There is no polite way of saying this) Anyway guess I was wrong.
  12. Hello, NotAnotherWit. Glad to meet another Indian. My favourite book is Way of Kings. Words of Radiance is close second
  13. India- Bengali(native tongue), Assamese, Hindi and English Hi NotAnotherWit, nice to meet another Indian here
  14. Hi! Sure I would love talk to you. Perhaps you can PM me. I will have to check out how that works.
  15. I am dying to get spiked (worst pun ever)
  16. I will add to that. When we talk about burning metals, doesn't that mean accessing the power of Preservation. Brandon has told several times that metals are only a gateway to access the power. So do the metals disappear from the allomancer stomach after "burning"? I tried to find a WoB only it but couldn't. Aluminium when "burned" is believed to block the power entering through other metals. So do the metals themselves vanish or only the power flowing through them vanishes? If only the power vanishes but not the metals then a non-savant aluminium gnat won't be able to make a sword struck into him vanish even if other conditions are met.
  17. Hi Unhinged. Welcome to the forums. Which other cosmere stories have you read besides Stormlight Archive
  18. That was one of the best weeks of my life
  19. Welcome Eyes:Darkeyes Favourite characters: Syl, Elend, Vin, Dalinar, Galladon, Jasnah, Szeth and Kaladin. Read Rithmatist next. You will like it Fun fact: Hoid's original name is Midius.
  20. Ya, I finished it within a week of its release.
  21. A few posts back Moogle quoted a WoB from Mistborn annotations which said that any allomancer with Iron or Steel could learn how see with metal-sense. That pretty much rules out any role of Hemalurgy in it.
  22. I get your point that its about choice and maintaining a balance between storing and tapping. However, when people have the option of using glasses or hearing aids or inhalers will they still chose to store?
  23. Hi Adimortis. Hi sylphrena. Looking forward to meeting you in the forums
  24. The choices on this thread are interesting. A lot of people are chosing ferring powers based on their health needs like gold for sick people, tin for vision problems etc. What I feel is storing attributes is a major hindrance in these cases. A person with chronic illness say diabetes won't be able to store health because it will detoriate his health. A person with shortsightedness will become even more blind trying to store. Same problem will occur for those who try to use electrum and cadmium for chronic health problems. And storing attributes is an active process which can't be done while sleeping. Only ferring powers I see of use bendalloy and copper. In both cases storing is easier than other cases.(edit: I missed brass. Its easy to store too, specially in summer) I guess the Terris society was more accommodating of their feruchemists giving them time an support to store their attributes. We don't have such luck here. I apologise for spoiling the fun nature of this thread.
  25. Hoid's motives are vague at best. Knowing that Adonalsium is shattered and seeing Hoid and other worldhoppers, its a natural conclusion to wonder, if they are trying to put Adonalsium together. However that is easier said than done. We have 3 shards splintered which have to be put together again and also convince the other shareholders to give up their shards. Well, frankly that does not seem possible at all at the moment. Hoid and his reptile friend both want to contain Odium right now but their methods are totally different. Brandon's treatment of the broken God idea is wonderful. Remember the shattering of Adonalsium led to human settlements in several worlds. Scadrial people were created by Preservation and Ruin. So perhaps its good that Adonalsium got shattered.
