  1. We probably want to start by splitting the characters up into little groups to do missions or something, just to establish some character relationships between all the newcomers. It seems like The Dalles is shaping up to be some sort of "Epic Avengers" deal, so we should start doing that so that we have a baseline to work off of once everything falls to pieces again later tomorrow.
  2. Do we have confirmation that the ones stating spikes can be burnt are the ones that are right?
  3. What if it's a sky-blue balloon? Camouflage.
  4. Here it is 37th Down
  5. Hemalurgy basically just takes an element off of a target's spiritweb, then transfers that ability to another person's spiritweb, be it strength, resolve, or allomantic power. We have a WoB that the Inquisitors' power comes from drinking metals, not burning or otherwise using the spikes. Spikes can't be burnt, in fact, unless the original element on the spike came from the person trying to burn it.
  6. Agreed. Moash is just ridiculous. He's everything that went wrong with Kaladin during the 8 months with none of the good qualities to make up for it. "Would you do that? Would you betray a member of Bridge Four?" C'mon, Moash. Do you really not understand that you were the one who betrayed them?
  7. Pretty in-depth. You've got a nice character here.
  8. I'm not exactly a "veteran," but just go to the Questions Thread and introduce yourself, as well as any Epics you want to make
  9. Partially blow up the museum? I'm gonna cross my fingers and hope you don't end up killing the viewpoint velociraptor. I'm halfway through reading the Portland thread and I think he's my favorite character. <3
  10. I guess Arsenal wasn't really in the mood for that.
  11. We should probably start discussing this in spoiler tags
  12. Are you talking about Szeth? I so hope Szeth gets his own arc. If he gets redeemed, it would be even better the moment where the Second Ideal is stated. It would top that.
  13. Well, the "heaven" was deliberately left vague so that it could fit into any existing belief system, including ones that teach reincarnation, or atheism (I was confused by what Dumbledore said a the end of the scene, but then I realized all that it meant was that this could potentially be a figment of Harry's imagination if there was no afterlife at all.)
  14. Mouldbreaker was about to let the new Epic head down to Salem's nearest recruiting station when his radio crackled to life. "Webb?" Asked a voice laced with static, "This is Think Tank. I'm seeing a 10-24 going down at my building." A new Epic had arrived in town and was bullying vanillas. "Powers?" "Looks like some sort of metal manipulator. No fatalities yet, but I don't like her attitude. She gave her name as 'Lady Deathskull,' if that gives you any indication of her sense of drama." Mouldbreaker considered bringing backup. Antithesis could negate entropy and energy manipulation, which could come in handy if her powers involved magnetic fields instead of straight-up "Quicksilver" powers. The other Chief Peacekeeper, Showstopper, could negate a single Epic ability completely, though Mouldbreaker was always hesitant to use her. Things got... scary, whenever she was given free reign. "I'll handle this one myself. Just make sure she doesn't go off the rails until I arrive." Mouldbreaker pocketed his radio and turned to the delusional, moose-riding Epic he had been talking to earlier. The man looked curious. "Nevermind about heading down there alone. I'll walk you over myself." He indicated to continue down the street. As they were walking, the Epic spoke up. "So about these 'fights' you mentioned..." "Completely nonlethal" Mouldbreaker said, launching half-interestedly into his pitch. "Our town's ruler, Soulcaster, has the ability to put people into a trance-like state where their perceived reality can be warped into whatever he chooses. On fight days, people have the opportunity to gather into McCulloch stadium and receive this treatment, then watch real Epics go at it in an environment that allows them to fight without pulling punches. A team of researchers even created a sort of reverse brain-in-a-vat device that allows the matches to be televised, so people around the world who still have access to Cable can watch them. "So long as the fight isn't a grudge match, it's usually pretty varied. There are multiple ways to duke it out, including simulated turf wars, last-man-standing survival games, and unpowered hand-to-hand combat. The arena designs themselves are very creative. There was this on time where there was this giant glass sphere with artificial gravity all around, and-" "Prizes?" "What?" "Ya mentioned prizes a few minutes ago." "Ah. Soulcaster also uses his powers to put victors into something we call 'Dreamstate.' It's a sort of individualized reality where you attain power, abilities, and gifts according to your success in the arena. The experience can get highly addictive, and many of the arena participants are full-out hooked on their Dreamstate paradises." He continued on, outlining the current big names in the arena and the ranking system. As they approached the entrance to Think Tank's bar, Mouldbreaker signaled the man to stop. "Epics like this typically have to be humbled and humiliated before they cooperate, so I'd leave any metal objects out here so that I don't have to tranfersate them to keep her from using them against us." He unholstered his handgun and set it on the ground, then pushed the doors open, wondering how the situation had developed since the call.
  15. In my opinion, truly long and detailed Epic fantasy series like WoT and LoTR make Stormlight Archives look like Green Eggs and Ham. The book doesn't drone on with detailed descriptions, and all of the Worldbuilding that's mentioned is either: A- Relevant to the plot, or B- Incredibly cool. Kaladin, Shallan, and Dalinar are all pretty compelling characters once you get to know them (which shouldn't take too long seeing as you get a pretty good idea from the first few chapters where they're introduced.) The Way of Kings was my first experience with Brandon Sanderson and fantasy in general. I was hooked by the end of Part One and was absolutely enamored with it by the time the climax was over. By the time you get done with Part One, I can assure you that Kaladin's plotline will have you interested, at the very least. His story makes everything worth it, even if you think Shallan isn't all that great at this point.
  16. Well, alright. I'm going to wait for Voidus' opinion on this stuff before I do anything, but I think that basically the next post I write is going to be from Outlaw/Mouldbreaker's perspective where Mouldbreaker gets a call from the bartender (Think Tank?) that there's a haughty new Epic that came in and started bullying vanillas.
  17. So here are some ideas I had to flesh out Salem that I might mention in my next post if you guys want them to be canon (Voidus is in charge here, I believe.) -Soulcaster keeps the matches varied. There are Hunger Games-style survival matches, capture the flag games, army battles, and straight-up cage matches. -Soulcaster has the ability to set up matches where neither Epic has full access to their powers. They might be reduced or empowered to make the fights a bit more even. -Insta-kill powers (ie. Corpsemaker) are almost never set into in Soulcaster's mind arenas -Salem is *somewhat* famous worldwide. The matches are televised (somehow) so that what few people have access to Cable can watch them. -Vanillas can get in on the action, too. The matches are varied occasionally so that both Epics don't have any powers and must fight hand-to-hand, and vanillas fight in these matches sometimes (hand-to-hand is pretty brutal, though, since nobody has to worry about the participants' safety) -Because vanillas can also participate in the matches, Salem doesn't have the same attitude towards them as most of the rest of the world. Status in Salem isn't based on Calamity's touch so much as a person's success in the arena. -I'm not sure if you guys were joking about putting real vanillas into Soulcaster's paradises, but I'm not sure if it's necessary. Anyway, I'd humbly like to suggest that the canon term for these places be "Dreamstate." -There's a tier system ranging from 1 to 10 that I can get into later, based on two factors, Prime Invincibility and Insta-kill (PI and IK, for short.) Epics are tiered according to this system. -The arena designs are almost unlimited in their variety, and usually one is chosen that evens out the match between whoever's fighting (I've thought of a few designs on my own.) -Outside of the arena, fighting and grandstanding is an absolute no-no, and that rule is enforced by Mouldbreaker, Antithesis, and Showstopper, the town's resident lawkeepers.
  18. Orange Crush has actually had a secret tertiary power this entire time.
  19. I don't mind retconning. Really! Have you seen how many times I edited my first RP post? There's nothing more torturous than watching on a phone browser people talk about an Epic you made up when the said browser doesn't allow you to respond. I honestly think that introducing my sister to Nighthound would be better. But now I'm home, so it's okay. I really only intended Wrangler as a Lore character, not a viewpoint one. I was planning to have Rubio mention him in passing as a famous Outlands Epic, so I'm not too worried about OP, though your point about him not being mentioned in Reckoners even though he would seem to be a dire threat to humanity is a good one. Why did I imagine him being dangerous, you ask? When I said Undead Caribou, I didn't mean "Lightwards-type" necromancy, where he just sort of restored them to their previous state except that they're subservient to him. I literally meant "Demon Caribou From Deep Within the Bowels of @#!*% ." Black hides and glowing maroon eyes, Razor sharp teeth, unnatural strength, and the ability to spit forth balls of sticky cud at enemy Epics, pinning them down like Mr. Incredible in that one scene where he was captured (you get that reference, right? Just me?) These are the kind of quadrupeds that you don't mess with without an equally fearsome army to back you up. Wrangler doesn't really care about killing, though. He just wants to desolate the landscape and leave no green thing growing, so he's perfectly happy roaming up there in the wastelands of Canada and wiping out all life forms there. That being said... I'm not sure if it matters (you'll probably never hear about this guy again,) but I'll downgrade his powers in the lore. First, he's not a necromancer (since that's not canon, right?) and instead can just change them with physical contact. Second, he's limited to 20,000 or so, total. Third, his goal is no longer to just graze down all life on the planet, but instead attacks towns and targets their food supplies, especially farms, without specifically killing the inhabitants, sort of like a swarm of bovine locusts. By the way, Twilyght, awesome post. I was snickering for a good 30 minutes after I read it.
  20. Ouch. Shut down. Mostly I figured it was fine because he doesn't really care about power or anything, he just wants to keep his herds eating.
  21. Don't worry. He's weird. I call him Wrangler. Basically, he can necromance (?) hooved mammals. He can't directly control them after they come back to life, but he can sort of "direct" large herds of them. The awakened beasts can spew gobs of cud and basically want to eat all organic objects they see, living or dead. He doesn't have Prime Invincibility or an insta-kill or any real offensive or defensive powers in particular. His only real power aside from necromancy is shapeshifting; he can turn into animals like horses, cows, bison, etc. as well as the undead forms of them. He spends his time directing his herds to "graze" large swaths of North America. Currently, the number of animals under his control is in the millions. The herds are basically polishing off the Yukon Territory right now, and might come down south sometime soon. That is, if this is canon, of course. _________________________________ It's become second nature to him after years of practice. He doesn't really have a problem doing it, it just takes some focus. I don't really mention everything he actually does in the narrative because his powers are really complicated and it would slow things down too much.
  22. I should get right on that, actually. Oregon isn't going to destroy itself. Come to think of it, I actually have an idea for an Epic that can cause destruction on par with Obliteration, based on another one of the experiences mentioned in Crush's first monologue. Creating a wedge is actually somewhat difficult for him (though he does it, obviously.) The easiest form for him to create is that of a flat plane with the "back side" facing inwards. the more complicated and contorted the shape, the harder it is to make. When he makes a "mindcleaver" he's basically bending a force field (before its actual inception) with such a degree of precision that it can be considered a wedge. It needs to be formed pretty close to him and takes him a fraction of a second to get it to work
  23. I've taken multiple tests, and I get placed everywhere (though ISTP is the most common.) I don't trust them because they try and put everything in a subjective context. Do I like meeting new people? I like meeting them if they're interesting. Do I hang around the edges of a party instead of being in the fray? Depends on whether I know people. I usually have to end up substituting the answer that gives the test the information it wants from me instead of what I actually think, and even then I'll get some random personality. Yeah... introvert/extrovert isn't necessarily just loner vs. party animal. INFP's tend to be really, really nice and genuinely care about people (as opposed to INTJ's, [who I apparently must insert into every post,] who just literally can't make themselves care about other peoples' feelings even if they want to) Speaking of which, I think I read an article that posited that Western cultures tend to think that being extroverted is healthier whereas Eastern cultures tend to think that being introverted is healthier
