  1. Huh. The hotel I'm staying at the night before I actually head out has wi-fi, and my friend wasn't using his laptop. So anyway, I was hashing out some posts to Kobold to use while I was gone, and realized that I could honestly just post the first one right now. Seeing as how The Dalles hasn't seen an update in two sparking weeks, I hope it's a welcome contribution.
  2. Jameson, screaming as he was torn into bloody chunks by a twitching mass of squirrels, his comrades powerless to assist him. Prior to Calamity, Mason would have sworn that he would never have to fight an army of feral, bamboo-eating mammals intent on turning his hometown into a wildlife refuge. Hiroto, impaled through the lungs with a bamboo spear, coughing up blood as she tried to gasp out her final, desperate, dying breaths. Sometimes, Mason wished he actually had been killed by that energy-manipulation Epic three years ago. Resting in the earth would surely be preferable to reliving the battles of the past, regretting the moments of indecision that cost comrades their lives, and picturing the nightmares that his squad faced on a daily basis. McCandless, twitching on the asphalt, termites crawling into his mouth and exploding again and again, pasting his brains over the glass display case of an abandoned shop. As tempting as death was, however, Mason had a duty to the people of The Dalles. He had sworn to protect the town from the myriad of forces that sought to destroy it, and sparks if he wasn't going to do it. The world needed people who were willing to fight back against the Epic Scourge with their heads held high. The Reckoners were ridiculously ineffective in that regard. They struck out against random Epics from their hidden bases, never taking the initiative to actually be a force for good. Mason respected their cause, but the true heroes of the Age of Calamity were the men and women serving in National Guard units across the country. A good portion of those men and women had died today. The squad currently piled into Mason's Transport Vehicle was only about half the size of the one that had struck out that morning, if you didn't count the mutilated corpses piled into the back of the truck's cab. With Jameson, Ahura, Chandler, McCandless, Gonzales, and Hiroto among the dead bodies, Private Mason Rubio was hardly in the mood to pick up another passenger. That didn't stop Central Command from sending a transport request to his commanding officer, Lieutenant Fawkes. One of the "City Guard" Epics, Deathwish, had been arrested over on West 13th, and she was supposed to bring her squad over and schlep him back to base. It was a testament to Rubio's solemn mood that he didn't outrightly cheer when he heard that the infamous nymphomaniac was finally going to get what he deserved. As it was, all that Rubio could ponder on the way over was how he was going to break it to his friends' children that one of their parents wasn't going to be coming home. Fawkes' radio buzzed to life again. "Deathwish should be handcuffed to a streetlamp two blocks away from your current location. If he appears to be resisting arrest in any way, activate the siren inside your vehicle and then shoot him." Mason winced at that. Central Command was hinting at Deathwish's weakness pretty hard. From what he knew of standard operating procedure on Epic weaknesses, he'd probably be taking training classes for nondisclosure within the next few weeks. How annoying that the Commander pandered to the needs of the Epics in the City Guard at the expense of those of the real soldiers. The vehicle rumbled to a stop, and Fawkes hopped out of the truck's canvas-lined back. The rest of the squad, Rubio included, grabbed their rifles and followed.
  3. Sigh... the Pikachu always gets it. I've tried multiple times to take a Pikachu with me all the way to the Elite Four, but it's just too slow and too weak. I always end up releasing it around the sixth gym or so. In other news, I'm going to be wandering around in the wilderness for 12-ish days, so it'll be kind of difficult for me to respond to anything until I get back. Toodles!
  4. I could have sworn one of your Epics had a fire weakness... Ah, well, that's what I get for not fact-checking.
  5. Well, this was surprisingly easy to make:
  6. Well, it isn't that bad. It's rare for jokes in the "Questions" threads to score more than 2 upvotes. I think Twi has gotten twice the upvotes on this memes thread than she has over there.
  7. Just noticed that there's a town in the Johto Region named "Blackthorn City." Which starter do you think he chose?

Not serious :P. Next time I play that game, though, I'm totally naming my character "Dalinar" in honor of that one city.

  9. I don't think that I'll be able to make it. I'm going to be gone from June 28th to July 11th, and me and him haven't really done anything with it so far for some reason.
  10. Well, yeah, but you have to think of character survivability. Even Mr. Headshot (the ultimate expert rifleman with impeccable aim) wasn't able to kill any characters. Funtimes could "skittle" his projectiles so that they didn't do any damage. The way this guy originally was, he could just kill people. No way to dodge, no way to escape, no way to fight back except to bring enough guys that you can surround him. He punches into the air and your head shatters. Anyone who crossed him would just be dead. Our beloved characters would have no Deus ex Machina to save them. He wouldn't exactly be considered a High Epic (neither would Deathpoint,) but he would have been sort of difficult to work with. Frostfire sort of bugs me because he apparently has an Insta-Kill, too. I thought he would just be able to throw fireballs or whatever but that WHOOC has me worried. Whatever, though, I guess. He's already well-established and shipped off to Neverland (courtesy of Twilyght, I assume.)
  11. So long as it's dodge-able, it's fine in my book.
  12. -Whitespine petting zoo. Maybe minimum-wage workers who are paid to dress in embarrassing Whitespine costumes? Bottom line is: they're supposed eat any kids who get too close, to warn them about the dangers of Whitespine attacks. -Skaa: The Ride! Experience Scadrial through the lives of its most downtrodden inhabitants! Work the fields! Get beaten by taskmasters! Eat genuine, watered-down farlet weed soup! -Nightblood arcade game. Wield the sword and destroy evil, however you perceive it.
  13. Oh. That's my shorthand for Insta-Kill. An ability that allows the Epic to kill someone effortlessly and gives the target no ability to escape. Examples: Deathpoint's power, the ability to drain moisture out of peoples' bodies, being able to telepathically tear out peoples' spines, boiling peoples' blood, forcefield-shrinking, you get the idea. Steelheart and Obliteration don't have Insta-kills, Deathpoint and Corpsemaker do. I was referencing the fact that this guy could apparently collapse the skull of anybody within his range with basically no effort.
  14. Supermaximus (a strength Epic) and Substance (whatever his exact powerset is.) By the way, I just realized that I forgot to mention Outlaw's powerset: -Quickdraw: He can draw a gun at supersonic speeds. This doesn't necessarily mean that he's super accurate, though. -Bad guys always miss: Outlaw can't get hit by gunfire. People always miss him. -"Horses": He can telepathically control hooved mammals in a short range around him. He tends to think that local wildlife is actually his horse. -Weakness: Colombians. He doesn't think he's an Epic, and he's delusional, believing that he's living in the 19th century American West, except, you know, Oregon. His mind auto-corrects so that cars become stagecoaches, bars become saloons, etc
  15. Me and Illuminati were about to do one, I think
  16. In regards to having Epics that aren't present in Salem in the fights (like Nighthound, Steelheart, etc.) that was actually part of my headcanon (again, I'm not Voidus, .) It seems like it would be pretty easy for Soulcaster to do, either by having the Epic be controlled by an interested third party or having him/her be an NPC. Since Dreamstate apparently defaults to reality when Soulcaster wants to create something, I think that she could simply state "I want to create Steelheart as a combatant" and a reflection of him would appear. Switching Epic powers around, or giving them both completely different powers could be an interesting bracket.
  17. By the way, what did you have in mind for Truthcharm/Thruthcharm? Were you intending to use him as a regular? Because the aftermath of his unprovoked attack would make decent fodder for a subplot tomorrow. Mouldbreaker wouldn't be happy with him.
  18. I had taken that as a given. Actually, come to think of it, I don't think we've established just how Soulcaster's powers work. -Do they need peoples' consent to work? -Can they work on thousands of people on the same time? -Do they include information that Soulcaster herself does not have (Epic weaknesses, for example?) -Is Soulcaster male or female? -Do they take place in real-time? And are their real bodies disconnected from the Trance or can they still be connected? -Does she build them in her mind piece by piece, person by person? Or does it automatically spring into her mind once she has a subject and an idea, laws of physics and all? -How is the audience usually situated inside of the Trance? Sidelines as a crowd? Invisible overhead?
  19. Well, mostly it's just that Breaker's only goal (when he's not Corrupted, that is) is to maintain order in a city jam-packed with destructive psychopaths. An Epic who sat quietly at his booth drinking water would be a rare and precious unicorn to him. He'd love it. EDIT: Remember not to double-post. Or triple-post.
  20. That sounds interesting. I'm guessing that SomeoneWhoseNameIWillSoonDecide will end up melting a lot of cotton candy. Could you maybe retcon the post to make it sound as if Truthcharm is acting a bit more independently, then? I'm pretty sure that Breaker would frown upon a subordinate who ran around killing potential arena participants who hadn't done anything remotely threatening yet (perhaps Truthcharm has a grudge against Substance?) He definitely wouldn't authorize him to bring 50 guys with him to do it (since I sort of imagined Salem's Guard being pretty small-scale, maybe 100 vanillas or so. The city doesn't need to defend itself from big threats because the local High Epics recognize that the city is pretty worthless without Soulcaster in charge. Again, I'm not Voidus, but...)
  21. I was actually planning to have my 'Nilla character in The Dalles be a devoted follower of SEBA (Salem Epic Battling Arena) and recognize OC from it (did I mention that I added Crush spending a few months in Salem to my headcanon? Well now I did.) If this were a movie, I think it would be cool to give them some rough terrain to show off their agility, like an airplane hangar full of scrap.
  22. I was referring to Savannah, yeah. And just to be completely clear on some of the Epics I've mentioned: -Mouldbreaker can't affect organics, so that means he can't directly transfersate people. That doesn't mean he can't semi-liquify the ground beneath them, though, so that's his main offensive power. His Corruption is pretty ordinary, other than the act that it wears off pretty quickly (a few hours) -Antithesis can manipulate energy diffusion (though she can't control the energy diffusing within living organisms.) She can also stop energy-manipulating Epics from... manipulating energy. Her Corruption manifests as a slight irritability. -Showstopper has the aspect of Corpsemaker's powers that lets him shut down a single Epic ability. She needs eye contact to do so. She has a slight strength boost. The reason I had Mouldbreaker mention her as a destructive force is because her Corruption is sadism. She genuinely enjoys destroying things and hurting people, and (like the rest of the City Guard) she's an extremely potent gun/knife/hand-to-hand/grenade/whatever fighter from training within Dreamstate.
