  1. We know that Vasher was on Roshar long enough to train Adolin when he was six, and WoB is that he's been on Roshar far longer than anyone else on the planet would suspect. Also as an addition, WoB on Sixth of the Dusk is that it is farther along in the chronology than anything we've seen yet. I've heard a ton of speculation that it takes place during the 4th Scadrian age because of reasons.
  2. Did anybody ask about what happened in Oregon?
  3. Choose a Sak-like Aviar, then, in a particular order, intentionally start to do stupid things that could get you killed, to create a gruesome theatre piece with your own corpse, that only you could watch.
  4. "wait, THAT's surgebinding? Mostly I've just been using it to keep things interesting in the bedroom."
  5. Breeze, without a doubt. Breeze is my third-favorite character in the Cosmere, after Highprince Sebarial and Hoid.
  6. Interesting theory. I like it.
  7. I called the bookstore today to order a copy of Words of Radiance. The woman I spoke with said that she thinks that they will likely not be closing between six and seven anymore. Instead, they will start selling the books for signing at six. When you purchase your book, you will get a number that will determine your place in the line. She said that she expected that it would be pretty laid-back, like the last time Brandon visited the store. She said that last time, Brandon just came in and sat down and chatted for a while before he started signing. Sounds good to me, I'm really excited about this event! I'm also going to be taking my wife, as a surprise. I just started her on his books a few months ago, she's read the Stormlight and Mistborn series (including AoL), and just finished the Reckoners works. EDIT: So, what 17th people will be there for sure? It seems that Oudeis, Titan Arum, NutiketAiel and rhandric are confirmed. I will be there for sure. You'll be able to spot me by my giant beard and my clothing (I might be dressed as Prof, but otherwise I'll be in my usual garb - a kilt).
  8. Oh, Sebarial would be pretty amazingly nonchalant about it. "Oh this surgebinding that I'm doing? Yeah, I've been doing that for years. Never felt a pressing need to tell anyone about it." Sebarial is actually my favorite Cosmere character to date, so I may be a little biased. EDIT: Also, that was my question about Allomancy working off-planet. Sixth of the Dusk got me thinking, the way that the ecosystem worked:
  9. You get a nice upvote for showing such strong moral fortitude :-)
  10. And her nightmare will be people calling it "pop."
  11. Nice, I like it. I could definitely see that being the case.
  12. I was very enamored of the name "Instabam," so I went ahead and did my own version of him. The logo was inspired by Emeril, with his signature "BAM!" style of cooking.
  13. During the Figment chat tonight, someone asked Brandon whether he was familiar with Myers-Briggs, he said that he was familiar with it, and found it interesting, but that he doesn't directly use it in his writing.
  14. I asked Brandon whether First of the Sun has a shard or splinter (figment chat, 1/19/XV), and he said "First of the Sun is not under the direct influence of any Shard."
  15. WOB on Cohesion and Tension during the figment chat tonight: We are unlikely to see it in Stormlight 3, it is more likely that we will see them with people who are focus characters of the back five.
  16. The reasons I say NF for Shallan is that even though she does have tremendous personal responsibilities and she is doing her best to take care of those, she is constantly being distracted by the opportunities she has for personal growth and development, and when push comes to shove, she generally chooses that. The I thing seems pretty straightforward to me, as does the J - she meticulously plans things out, and even though she is fairly good at improvising, she hates it and it makes her feel awkward and uncomfortable - unlike, say, Kaladin, who feels more comfortable the less of a plan he has to stick to. She also is very caught up in her own thoughts, ideas and philosophies, and frequently [nearly always] overthinks the meanings of her various social interactions.
  17. Mailliw73, I'm pretty new and I'm not sure what these are. Something on Roshar, I assume, some kind of surgebinding doable by Knights Radiant? Is there a link you can give me with more info?
  18. I doubt that there is an intentional connection, but it could make for an interesting study anyway... Though it will be a little tough because we will end up with half of the types that will be assigned to negative shards. Let's start with the two sides of Harmony. I feel like Preservation must needs be an SJ. Who loves preservation more than SJs? And I feel like Harmony ought to have all eight types, so Ruin will have to be an NP. Hmmm... I'm going to take an initial stab and say ESFJ is Preservation, and INTP is Ruin. And, come to think of it, most INTPs that I know would not particularly mind being associated with ruin. Endowment sounds like an SP to me. Maybe an ESTP? Dominion sounds like it could be either an ENFJ or ENTJ. Odium is probably an INFJ, always bitter because it thinks that nobody understands it. I'm going to say Cultivation is an INTJ. So here are my best guesses, so far: Ruin: INTP Preservation: ESFJ Endowment: ESTP Dominion: ENFJ Odium: INFJ Cultivation: INTJ Devotion: INFP Honor: ESTJ That's eight so far... We still need shards for ISFJ, ISTJ, ESFP, ISFP, ISTP, ENFP, ENTP, ENTJ. Based on this, I'm going to guess that the remaining eight shards are as follows: ISFJ: Copaceticity ISTJ: Reticence ESFP: Hedonism ISFP: Surliness ISTP: Recklessness ENFP: Charisma ENTJ: Forcefulness ENTP: Perfection I've done it! I've solved the mystery of the remaining shards!
  19. Adonalsium (on Tumblr) is running a Steelhunt contest for fanart from the Reckoners series. I have a feeling that our favoritely-named epic might be a little bit to obscure to win me anything, but I couldn't resist doing this Instabam-Emeril mashup anyway. Thanks for helping to inspire me, everyone!
  20. This is definitely true. I have a good ESFJ friend, and it takes very little probing to start her up, for hours. Nice. It isn't surprising to find a lot of NTs in these forums, as science fiction often appeals to N types and ideas like the cognitive realm in particular will appeal to NTs.
  21. That's hard to say. When I first finished The Way of Kings I thought that it was my favorite fantasy novel I'd ever read. Then I read Warbreaker and thought that it was the second-best fantasy novel I'd ever read. Then Words of Radiance came out and I liked it even better than The Way of Kings... but weirdly I feel like I like Warbreaker better. Which makes no sense. Warbreaker > Words of Radiance > Way of Kings > Warbreaker. Weirdness. Anyway, I've only re-read Way of Kings so far (I reread it to prep myself for the release of WoR). I just started rereading the Mistborn trilogy today, so I'll probably work my way back through the whole 'Mere over the course of the next couple of months.
  22. This is definitely the best quote I've seen all day. I like the way your theory sounds, kuchapel. I don't know if your fan fiction is anything like reality, but it isn't out of the question - Brandon himself has said that the series bridges the gap between YA and actual adult themes, and it has definitely had some stuff in it that would've made me squirm as a teen... Megan's ressurection scene, for example....
  23. Just read through Sixth of the Dusk, Shadows for Silence and Hope of Elantris, which I believe means that I am officially caught-up, as far as the ol' Cosmere goes. I'm not planning to read Dragonsteel/Liar/White Sands/ etc until official, canonical versions are out... For now, at least.
  24. Pestis the Spider's dissertation on Kindles pretty much left no stone unturned (unhallowed?). I concur, and I highly recommend getting an actual e-reader like a non-Fire Kindle.
  25. Nice, WoP is good enough for me.
