New Brass Metallurgic Symbol
AndrewStirlingMacDonald replied to AndrewStirlingMacDonald's topic in Mistborn
Ah, that makes sense, then. I wonder why it is the only non-dotted symbol? -
Assuming that it was not just an impressive mess-up in my version, it seems that Brass has been given new symbol, though I have no idea why this is. Brass now seems to be the only symbol to not have a dot in it. At first I wondered if it was some sort of misprint, but the line is clear and steady, not blurred at all, and it's not like there was some OTHER symbol that they accidentally inserted, as might happen with a typo. New art has to be specifically made, and we know that an artist created at least one other new Metallurgic symbol for that last chapter heading. So, any theories as to why Brass has changed?

Wax's latest acquisition End of book spoilers

Should be noted that the "gauge" version in Brandon's store seems more faithful to the description than the "hoop" version (which is the first version that comes up in the store. -
[Spoilers] Shadows of Self Full Book Reactions
AndrewStirlingMacDonald replied to Chaos's topic in Mistborn
I jotted down some thoughts: Harmony talking about the others, I assume the SoScads. I really hope we hear from them at SOME point in WaW, but it wouldn't surprise me to miss First Contact entirely, it happening somewhere between WaW and the 1980's trilogy. If we see them now, it seems likely that it will be them contacting the Elendites rather than the other way around, since they apparently have better tech. Interesting that Steris swears in Harmony's name, like Wax and Innate. They are both supposed to be Pathians, but Steris is a Survivorist. I wonder how that works. Love the term "Roughian" that Innate uses. Wayne is amazing, of course. In particular his "Temple of the Common Man" chapter. Brilliant. Loved his sparks with MeLaan. Loved everything that he said. Hoid's appearance amused me. In WoR he appears as a carriage driver, and the actual carriage driver who switches out with him is described wearing a strange hat. Now in this, he's on a first-name basis with Wayne, who primarily knows him as a carriage driver. Love the new nomenclature we've been given. Catacendre, Remarked Duplicity, etc. When I saw the first broadsheet page with the VISITORS from OTHER WORLDS picture, I was like "Iyatil!" and then when it revealed the rest of the face, I laughed. I wonder if Brandon designed the pages with that exact joke in mind, obscuring the beard until you've practically forgotten about the picture in the first place. -
Bronze Seeker, but in actuality I'm totally a Soother.

Although never explicitly stated in SoS, the rest of book left a TON of hints that this could be a future reveal. I think there's a good chance that this theory (or some version of it) will come to fruition down the road.

I've heard it stated that, Cosmerically, Brandon considers the language of the books to be an English translation of whatever the language actually spoken in the series is. When MeLaan reveals herself to Aradel, the language that she used was the sort of archaic, King Jamesy language we often assosciate with holiness or religionish stuff in our culture. However, the language on Scadrial has evolved very differently. The language doesn't seem to have evolved overmuch in 300 years (which could be attributed to the whole "It's a translation" thing), and even during the Final Empire, no one spoke with thees and thous. I have trouble believing that Aradel would be "expecting" to hear a language that was spoken pre-Catacendre (love that name, by the way!), since it really seems that for 99.9% of Sacdrians, history began with Kelsier. Could she have perhaps been speaking in High Imperial? If so, I'm a little disappointed that it was "translated" for us the way it was, but if not, I'm curious whether there is actually a linguistic shift similar to English hidden somewhere in Scadrian history.

Now of course, the only time that Roshar is explicitly mentioned is in the Ars Arcanum, but I think that the broadsheet has given us a pretty good clue that Rosharians have visited Scadrial. Specifically, that "VISITORS from other WORLDS" illustration looks pretty clearly like a Parshendi to me. Furthermore, the description of the encounter seemed to very explicitly describe a Shardpool (similar to the one seen in Elantris or in the Horneater peaks). Both of Scadrial's Shardpools are accounted for in this book (Wax and TenSoon pass through the Pits of Hathsin and walk right past the Well of Ascension), so it seems pretty likely to me that this new metal is due to a new Shard setting up shop, probably with some intention of deHarmonizing the good folk of Scadrial.

This could simply be a stylistic choice, or a slight change in the way Brandon sees the character, but it is very interesting to me that in Wax's perspective chapters in AoL he was always referred to as Waxillium, but in SoS he now seems to have come to think of himself as simply Wax. Perhaps it's simply the change Marasi pointed out, spending so much time around nobility has made him take the opposite approach he took in the roughs, encouraging him to bring a little roughness to the city, but it could also be still be something deeper.

Amazon accidentally released the full version for Kindle a few weeks ago. For a little while, when you clicked the "look inside" link, instead of showing an except, it just has the whole book. It was a very unfortunate lapse on Amazon's part, and one that apparently happens with alarming frequency.

That sounds like a good q & a question to me. Beware of giving him two choices though, he's like to find you the classic mathematician's answer: "yes."

I started playing the new Lego Dimensions game with my 4-year-old daughter last night. Booted it up on my Xbox, and the VERY FIRST thing in the game was a vast, constantly-shifting sea of spheres (technically tiny bricks, but still) that could be reformed by strong-willed master builders. A small, cold star shone in the distance. I'm certain that Lego was not intentionally referencing the Cosmere, but it still made my night, and I wanted to share. MMMMMM now that I said it, can you IMAGINE how amazing a Lego Cosmere video game would be? You worldhop to the different shardworlds and play though stories.... Oh, the possibilities.

I was at my wife's parents' house this weekend for a wedding, they have a farm and a ton of mostly-feral barn cats. I saw this one and the meme wrote itself. I kind of want to adopt the cat and name it Rlain, or Eshonai if it's a female. WoK spoiler.

ENTP here. T is my weakest trait, P is my strongest, with N a close second. Actually, my E is fairly strong, too. Just a middling T, though. -

New/Hidden Knights Radiant Orders
AndrewStirlingMacDonald replied to stcapps17's topic in Cosmere Discussion
That said, if your order depends on the type of spren you bond, there could be more than ten orders. Perhaps there are other types of spren that have never bonded, but will do so at some point in the future *cough Nightblood cough* -
