[OB] Bondsmith/Truthwatcher team to Awaken dead blades
teknopathetic replied to Watchcry's topic in Stormlight Archive
If Dalinar can amplify Renarin's "seeing the best version of yourself" with "healing", maybe that could bring back a blade (assuming there is enough connection there). If the human's could figure out how to fix blades, the Spren might be more willing to join forces again. Do we know anyone who has experience giving metal sentience through investiture? Maybe a scholar? With a famous sword? Maybe someone close to Adolin? -
I wonder if Ryshadium were cultivated by the Shin. We don't see them mentioned in the flashbacks of the last desolation. We have 10,000 years since the last desolation for a new bond/species/investiture to start forming. Even if they Ryshadium aren't 'new", the Shin seem very involved in their creation or breeding. Add in the fact that there was a splintering, and the fact the Shin worship cultivation (creating/splicing/improving) and who knows what new magic could form. Is is also strange that the Shin raise these Stone-Hoofed Horses. The shin are obsessed with stone, and they somehow have horses with stone-feet? Odd. Perhaps Ryshadium were how the Shin Conqueror managed to get some work done. Remember how ardent slowly turn into their soul casting essence if they soul cast too frequently? Well, maybe somehow this was done to the DNA of certain horses, either accidentally or through intentional cultivation practices brought about by the shin (who worship farming and cultivation).

We don't know if he killed the kid. He spared the Archer, so he is at least capable of mercy. Dalinar has the capacity for both mercy and murder, which is interesting. I grant you that Dalinar saved the Archer because the archer had value (and I suspect that archer was a photo-radiant), but Dalinar can see the good that comes from not killing those that he doesn't need to.

Would the Stormfather know about the Diagram and T's actions? Seems like the Stormfather could just out all of these goings-on, but likely won't since he is a big stubborn grumble grumble.
-
Lady can change her appearance though (and a lot more then she did in Warbreaker). Likely, she didn't as she has no reason to, but still. My guess would be that Vivenna would be off studying magic somewhere, and not skinny-dipping on living islands somewhere on Roshar.
-
Do we think that Dalinar's archer friend (I am forgetting his name) is a Radiant? The dude fell pretty far and survived (which mimics the Shallan/Kaladin event), and Dalinar proclaims that that fellow is a "miracle".
-
You don't need a shard pool to go there if you are the right kind of Radiant. At least for Elsecallers, they make a mini-perpendicularity that they can hop through. Jasnah's magic let's her open and close doors way easier than other people can. We have a WOB that it works this way. What I don't know is if this power works on any world or if Eslecallers (or other orders) can only do it on Roshar. From what we know about world-walking in the cognitive realm, it seems like a fairly do-able process for an experiences Elsecaller to go out and explore. Perhaps her Spren is what holds her back? But we have not enough information here. My guess is that a Radiant can at least take their Spren to other planets in the Roshar system, since there must be SOME connection to Cultivation and Honour in these other worlds simply due to proximity and the history of the solar system. Those 10 gas giants really do seem connected to the base-ten investiture of Surgebinding.

On this Renarin not using his powers, I think maybe he has been? One woman remarks that Dalinar should have no mobility on his should on account off all the injuries he has sustained. Perhaps Renarin has been keeping his father from developing arthritis, or repairing the scar tissue etc? I used to think The Thrill was somehow healing Dalinar, but maybe the simpler answer is that Renarin has been doing it over time.

Shadows For Silence - Reactions
teknopathetic replied to Windrunner's topic in Cosmere Short Stories
I wonder if Sebruki was manipulating 'Luck" somehow. I mean, the girl is as broken as a Rosharan could ever be, and the bit with the silver bolt was a masterful bit of luck. -
Could these cities be based on the Venus Cloud Cities that some have devised? The atmosphere os so thick that building in the clouds makes the most sense? Maybe the atmosphere is very very thick? Still, it seems like this civilization once had incredible fabrial technology, and managed to keep the usage of some of those technologies after the disaster. It seems very likely that this planet was either the Tranquline Halls or a colony of the Tranquiline Halls. The technology is just to extreme for the place to be younger than the Roshar world. I wonder how easily a person could travel there from Shadesmaar. Jasnah's magic made it seem like she could pop in and out easily (so she wouldn't need a shard pool). Grabbing technology from Ashyn could be vey useful, and who knows what knowledge they've kept from previous Odium fights.

The heretic epitaph makes it seem 90% as a Jasnah confirmation, but I my "it is not that obvious" vote is for Eshonai writing about her exploration of the spren world (she always wanted to explore). But yeah, it is likely Jasnah.

[OB] Implications of the Lightweaving map.
teknopathetic replied to Calderis's topic in Stormlight Archive
It would be useful to know if this is something Shallan can do under certain conditions, or something she needs a Bondsmith (or another radiant) to pull-off properly. -
I think the most obvious answer would be that Sadeas' wife used her spy-ring and is now enacting a revenge plan while pursuing the goals she and her husband had laid out.
-
My bet for the new killer is Sadeas' wife. She was pretty clever, and she wouldnt just sit back and let people get away with the murder. I love the fact that Shallan cant draw one of the buildings. It has a very Nightvale vibe to it. Maybe there is some magic on the building that prevents it from being spied upon, remotely-viewed, or transformed via magic (if you can't understand the identity then likely inis harder to transform)?

i feel like Brandon wouldnt want to bring to life another dead character, but ot would be cool to see Tien as some sort of cognatove shadow. i I wonder if any magic systems grant powers specifically to the dead.

we have a WOB confirming that danilar actually asked for "hotter slontzees".

It would be interesting if Tien was somehow picking up on some ancient or "esoteric" magic system.

[OB] If you were to read one other Cosmere book...
teknopathetic replied to Tarion's topic in Stormlight Archive
The Moon Scepter is a translating tool. It lets you figure out the "code" of another magic system on Sel (and maybe elsewhere but we dont know.) So if Hoid has it he can learn to do the local area's code-system. I have no idea if she has a hack for forging, but I think if anyone could figure something out it would be Shai. Also, i asked if Shai could use Forgery if she brought a large chunk of Selish land with her. Like, if you teleported three miles of your homeland to Roshar, would that be enough connection to use the magic. He said no haha. -

it was me who asked him this question, along with finding out what the Moon Scepter does. He implied that she was getting around the cosmere somehow and that he wants to write more about her. -
I asked Brandon "If i am crazy to think that Tien is connected in some way to the DawnSingers.". Brandon: "You are not crazy to make that connection, but you are not exactly right. This will be explained in the upcomming book, so you wont have to wait long".

[OB] Unmade and Bondsmiths
teknopathetic replied to Crucible of Shards's topic in Stormlight Archive
I like the WOB saying that there are three bondsmith and there are three shards (but Brandon says he wont elaborate on of that is why there are three bond smiths). Maybe the third bondsmith bonds an unmade? i always felt the "certainly, one of them is a traitor" quote was about unmade, and not the heralds. It would be awesome if an Unmade betrayed Odium, perhaps because the unmade did not want to be murdered if and when Odium won the fight against Roshar. I could totally see a sentient unamade realizing that helping Odium would seal his/her own fate. The logical thing for that unmade to do would be to bond with a human and fight his/her father. -
In the new chapters, Syl mentions she could hear and remember "another voice. Pure, with a song like tapped crystal, distant yet demanding...". In one swoop Syl mentions singing and crystals (shards). Seem a little familiar? We have Tien, a boy who was pure and obsessed with finding the perfect rocks, being spoken of as having an allure. Could Tien be showing sign of magic? His voice resonates to her in kadalin's memory that seems exceptionally suspicious. Could Tien have been a proto-dawnsinger? Maybe Dawnsingers are actually another form of magic (cultivation-esq), and Tien was starting to be able to utilize it (seeing as other magics are returning as well). The kid spent all day cultivating cute rocks, and now the Spren seem interested in his memory? It is just too much of a hint to be ignored. Honor states the Dawnshards are gone, but that doesn't mean that Dawnsingers won't be popping up. Personally, I though Dawnsingers were Parshendi, but now I am not so sure. Edit: I asked Brandon "If i am crazy to think that Tien is connected in some way to the DawnSingers.". Brandon: "You are not crazy to make that connection, but you are not exactly right. This will be explained in the upcommimg book so you wont have to wait long".

WoB that Shai the Forger is lookingfor Hoid. That implies to me that she is capable of at least something. -
I was once in The Forests of Hell, And to me, the place sure was swell, Not a stab or a scrape, Nore a murder or rape, Went unpunished by Shades that soon fell.
