What will I do with my Monday's going forward?
teknopathetic replied to Stark's topic in Stormlight Archive
I didnt really like the preview chapters this time around so it wont be that bad for me. RoW preview chapters though .... I felt like a crack addict trying to go clean once the Mondays went away haha. -
Why is only one option to kill Moash because he is human garbage? I don't think Moash is the worst ever, but I would kill him since Moash is actively threatening my life (imagining i am team Dalinar) I would kill him the same way I think it is okay to kill Sadaes. You don't need to wait until the exact second someone is trying to kill you in order for you to act in self defence. Killing Moash would be self-defense at this point. Its like if you knew someone named Bob had been sent to murder you and everyone you love. Bob had confirmed it AND Bob had already killed some people you love. Are you allowed to kill Bob when you accidentally see him out and about at grocery store? Is it okay to not wait until Bob actively is coming at you with a knife? Yes, I think so. Adolin was acting in self defense when he met Sadaes, and I would kill Moash in the same way. Not everyone agrees with me. However, there have been legal cases where an exceptionally abused and isolated spouse kills their partner when their partner's guard is down. The courts had to decide if it still counts as self defense if your partner isn't beating you to within an inch of your life at that very moment. Basically, do you have to wait patiently until your partner has a knife and has the advantage before you can act? To me, I think self defense can be a period in time rather than just a specific moment of life-or-death terror (provided the right circumstances). Not killing Moash means more people will die, or I will die, so I will kill him in self defence the first chance I get. Even if I just saw Moash just sitting at the park eating some chouda. He doesnt morally get to pull a knife on me first for me to be able to act.

My Cracktheory: Shallan will end up being honour's champion. Over and over again people have said she has been the person who has been broken and reforged the most. She is the person who has shown she is the strongest. There is that whole discussion of how a one armed dualist was actually the stronger man, or the swimmer who drown having put up the most fight. I think Shallan would be a harder person to mentally destroy. Also, in terms of a visual, Shallan breaking into 2 or 3 people and fighting Odium's champion would be beautiful to see. Especially if a few of the alters die in the process. Or if Shallan calls on visions of people she loves. Or if Pattern dies, and Shallan pulls out Testament to keep on fighting. Odium's champion will be Chana Davar. Making that payoff epic. I could see Shallan saying "I have killed you once, Mother; I will do it again” Other Version: Chana had raised Shallan to be a champion. Lin and Chana were fighting over the issue throughout Shallan's childhood. I assume she was raised to be Honour's champion, but maybe Chana made a deal and was raising her daughter to be Odium's champion. Perhaps Lin Davar had held a knife to Shallan's throat over this at one point, but he chose not to kill Shallan. Seeing that in the spiritual realm would be a fun end to the "child knife" deathrattle and would humanize Lin in the end, which I think is coming. Heck, maybe that was even what was going on in the parent flashback anyway.

I lon g thought the 11th herald candidate was Ba Ado Mishram since she seems more sentient than the rest of the Unmade. But now I think maybe it was El. I can see El having been in love with Human culture and having been a Rlain type character. At somepoint before the herlands were made, El decided that he in fact wasn't comfortable with what was happening. So either El or Ba Ado Mishram seem likely to me to be the 11th herald candidate. Both candidates seem to have been closer to the heralds than we would have expected, and both could have had a similar path. I won't give actual specific spoilers, but there is a plot point in Dragonsteel Prime where a character in the Shattered Plains plot:
-
If Gavinor some how grows up in the spiritual realm, that might be a total succession war situation with Jasnah. Jasnah always feared threats would come from within the family.
-
Though “el” is supposed to be related to the “el” in the the term “nahel”. Nahel means “bond to divinity”. Since we have Nahel and Luhel bonds, “el” should mean bond seeing as bond should be in both terms. Nah-bond and Luh-bond Or, hilariously, “el” means “the/a/le/la”
-
I found El kind of likeable. I wonder if El and Renarin might get married in that one vision where Renarin appears to be a Parshendi Monarch. Renarin would add a human legitimacy to the throne, and El would satisfy the Singer side of things.
-
El is in the forbidden 10th name of the almighty. Regular people aren’t allowed to say it out loud. Only ardent can. Elithanathile: he who transforms. This always sounded like a Fused name to me, but maybe it’s a “dawn singer” name for him. I don’t think Honour could have been a Parshendi (though Parshendi did exist at the time of the shattering, so I guess a worldhop is possible ish)
-
Well now I think El was the one who Taln replaced as a herald

It seems like man them used to be on Roshar. Honour seems to think it’s hopeless now that the dawnshards are lost, which implies a plural amount of them used to be at hand. They thought change was lost, but it wasn’t. And Sig needs to get his. Maybe the other 2 are also still hiding on Roshar? -

Is it possible the Nightwatcher/cultivation might also go to that creepy “city of shadows” called Rall Elorim? We don’t know why everyone thinks it’s so creepy, but maybe the creepiness has something to do with the Night or something? I realize we’ve been told you have to go to the valley, but maybe cultivation made an exception. And as far as I know, Lift has never spoken of how she met Cultivation -
In Rhythm of War, one of the underrated developments was Venli discovering Cultivation and Odium's merged Rhythm of "Freedom" [not exactly the name but this is as close as Venli gets] In Winds and Truth, we have so many characters yearning for Freedom from their promises or positions 1. Nohadan goes on and on about how people should have the freedom to leave their positions. 2. The Oathgates realizing they wanted freedom after being locked for so long in their position. 3. The Sibling and Navani trying to find ways to give more freedom to fabrial spren. 4. Sja-Anat wanting freedom for her and her children. 5. The Wind was locked away, and seems to have vanished along with the heralds (who are the epitome of oath-horror) Is this book building upon a series-long theme regarding freedom from bonds? Are we getting hints that cultivation and Odium merged is actually an amazing thing? Is freedom from oaths what Roshar needs to counter-balance the harms of Oaths? Anyone else picking up on this as well?

Could The Recreance Have Been Intended to Kill Honour?
teknopathetic replied to teknopathetic's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Thanks for sharing that again! I like it, but I’m not sure it gels entirely with what Mya says at the trial. Mya says we did it to save …” and then cuts off because she’s so tired. It seems like it was actively done to save something/someone more so then a tit for tat trade. Your theory could still be true though if they though this tit for tat would save the world. But it’s unclear to me that this is the cases based on what Mya was trying to say. -

But as far as we know, every single bonded spren agreed to cooperate. Mya, and the other bonded spren, chose to break the bond. Then there seems to be some cover up. Sure the Stormfather would have known what happened. Or unbonded spren like the ambassador Inkspren should have heard at least rumours of people preparing to break their oaths. That inkspren even says it’s super weird no one knew that bonded spren chose to break their oaths. So what would cause all the bonded spren and all the radiants to unbond? Maybe a super big issue with the good of bonds. -
I’m beginning to wonder if the thing people were afraid of was what Honour might do, and a mass breaking of oaths at once may have been the only way anyone could think of to take him out. Or alternatively, it was done as an act of compassion. But either way, I’m beginning to think walking away was to stop Honour. EVERYONE did it. At once. That’s nuts. That’s such a horrific breaking of bonds all together.

As far as I can tell, there is reason to see Taravangian as broken though? Taravangian has a set of principles he follows, and Odium is a real and non-moral force. Taravangian is just a dude holding the power. Raize was broken a bit because of his conflict with the shard and a bit of damage taken in a previous fight, but I dont think Mr.T has gotten to that point yet. I still think "the broken one" is going to end up being something weird, like the Stormfather or something. 3 original god spren, now the crazy Stormfather is in charge after usurping The Wind. Or maybe they revive Honour and we realize Honour was an absolute mess of a Shard for some reason; book 6-10 is them trying to kill it again. -

He seems to have gone more crazy around the time another herald died, which is suspicious. But Szeth was already out and about by the time that event happened -

I wonder if Kal could still step in as Champion. He does have that letter stating he is the heir. And as the heir, he might have some authority. As far as I know, Hoid isn’t aware of the letter. -

If Honour’s power is in the spiritual, then why send Kal to go save a piece of it in Shinovar? Wouldn’t it be amazing if Cultivation was lying? She strolls in as loud as possible and basically tells that all parties should go looking in the Spiritual Realm Meanwhile, the real hunt happens in Shinovar. -

I wonder if Kal is the wind’s champion and Szeth is Ishar’s? There is a battle of outlook and redemption going on maybe? Truth was capitalized in this reading, so maybe they have a hand in some champion picking too? -

But all the Heralds think Ishar is the most sane usually? So…. How is that working? I don’t think I trust or believe Ishar on this one. If anything, I could see him pushing his pain on the regular heralds or somehow sending all his pain to Taln somehow -

I will probably listen to the epigraphs and skip the chapters to get a sense of the voice or gain any clues about them. Then I will jump into new material.

Coming back to the idea that Tanavast was no longer Honour at some point AND that "The Almighty" used to refer to Adonalsium before Roshar forgot it's past Seems one could take this as a clue that maybe Tanavast stepped down and that "The Almighty" has changed in meaning in the past few thousand years. This linguistic slide in meaning makes sense historically too. Back in the day, I think people were more aware of where the shards came from and what Adonalsium was considering people actually spoke with Honour and Odium on the daily. Nowadays, vorinism has conflated The Almighty with Honour. But maybe "Nohadon" was referring to a more historical Almighty.

Are oathgates spren confirmed to be inkspren
teknopathetic replied to Sythrin's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think people had guessed inkspren based on some clues. The big one for me was that inkspren are said to be able to become any size from a dust particle to something massive. Plus, well ... their order.
