do you think a deadeye can be corrupted
Quantus replied to The Cardinal of Death's topic in Stormlight Archive
I dont see why they wouldnt be able to be corrupted. If a Deadeye can still form a Connection with it's wielder, even an extremely weak one, they shouldnt be so damaged that Sja-anat cant Connect to them (however she does) and work her hoodoo. Whether that's enough to actually Heal them back to a functioning state is another question entirely, which we have far less data to speculate with. Random Speculation: If Her corruption process will revive a deadeye spren, then narratively it would become a lot more likely that we will see a Corrputed Sibling sooner rather than later, and a thus Voidbinding Bondsmith (which could be many kinds of awesome). On the other hand, if the Everstorm is indeed a new UnMade, perhaps that spren can use the same ability that "healed" the Parshmen on the Deadeyes and restore them from their particular Spiritual Damage as well. -
I believe it could be more than that. If his Ideals are an entirely different theme, then the argument could be made he's precisely as much of a Truthwatcher as Shallan is, which is to say that he's some entirely different Order than just happens to share a single Surge with Truthwatchers (and Edgedancers). It would indicate that the whole Voidbinding set of Orders are entirely distinct from the 10 Radiant orders. That half & half option is an interesting Idea, I like it.
-
This is a question that recently occurred to me: Did Renarin speak the transitional Truthwatcher Ideals (or at least within the Order's normal variance) or did Glys's corrupted status require something else entirely? Or, to put it another way: Is Renarin still a Truthwatcher at all, or is he part of a new Void-Order? I dont think we have any information either way, and I think it would very much be RAFO territory, but Im curious what the opinions of the community are.

For what it's worth, Savantism is likely going to change to the point that what Wax has exhibited is just advanced skill.

How Powerful are the Knights?
Quantus replied to BasementDwellingRadiant's topic in Stormlight Archive
In their heyday they were likely one of if not The most powerful organization we've seen. Individually they are some of the more heavily Invested things around, and between the versatility of their surges, their detailed knowledge of Fabrial technology, their direct communication with at least one of their resident Shards, and their shear numbers, not to mention being well organized against a common enemy, they would have been top tier. Taken as a whole the only thing I can name that might come close is the Ire and/or Elantris in it's prime, but we really dont know anything about them so it's pure speculation. -
What are you playing right now?
Quantus replied to Link Von Kelsier Harvey's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Update three should do it, that's where they've added all the fluid processing, not to mention the futurama tubes. The experimental is out now (that's what Im playing) but the devs say they hope to move it out of experimental and roll out the main update in a matter of weeks, but they arent ready to commit to a date yet. Part fo that is that they are being refreshingly engaged with the community when i comes to features and quality of life tweaks. I played that one a few months back. I honestly never expected a Hiking simulator to be as good as it was (thought Ziplines where a big part of my endgame enjoyment), and I agree it gets you right in the feels several times. Glad to hear they are considering a sequel. -
this might have some spoilers Connection among the Parshendi
Quantus replied to GoWibble's topic in Stormlight Archive
It's definitely not Voidbinding or anything like that, those Powers didnt return widely until the Everstorm events. Back then they were just far smarter than the human's thought they would be (Parshendi literally translates to "Parshman who can Think", which is largely because they'd only ever met the "slave-form" Parshendi who were In that sense it you could call it a Form-related issue, but at most it would be a form that is generally smarter than the others. The Envoy Form does grant actual supernatural language capability, but those Forms of Power had not been rediscovered back then. At the time they only knew Dullform, Workform, Warform, Nimbleform, and Mateform; with one each being their ruling body, and Eshonai (one of the ones that learned quickly) wearing/representing the Warform. PS. Spelled "Alethi", which is both the language and the People of Alethkar. Which in turn is the modern incarnation of the ancient Silver Kingdom of Alethela. -
Aside from the Mistborn books, and in particular Mistborn Secret History, None (for now). We will eventually get the Dragonsteel series, which will reveal the whole backstory of the Shard Vessels, the events of the Shattering of Adonalsium, and Hoid. But it will be several years, he says he doesnt plat to write it until all 10 Stormlight novels are published.

Basically like Final Fantasy swords. FFX, specifically, since they were particualrly elemental themed:

Well, sometimes art is gross over-complication (and pretty much everything in between, to be honest)

Parshmen Burial Practices and Stone Shamanism
Quantus replied to teknopathetic's topic in Stormlight Archive
That's a fair point about it being the only cultural memory that survived, I dont have any answer for that, though the only actual example I can think of on stage was Rlain, who was only pretending to be a Slaveform. If my memory of it is right, then one explanation might be that the true parshmen never actually reacted, but the spies did enough times (and it was odd enough in itself) that the humans took it to be a species'wide reaction. As far as the Fused being the only source of the connection between the taboo and gemhearts, I was pretty sure it was mentioned directly by either Eshonai or Venli during one of the POV chapters, not from the Fused. The Fused I thought just stated that it was a more recent development, something that came after their creation and/or after the desolations. Entirely possible, but Im not sure if that would explain their need for Soulcrafted metals. If it ws only a concern with foreign metals being soulcrafted vs mined that would fit, but I thought it was mentioned that they avoided it in their homeland as well. Though I suppose a simple lack of the right mineral deposits could explain it just as easily -
Parshmen Burial Practices and Stone Shamanism
Quantus replied to teknopathetic's topic in Stormlight Archive
It was the Heirocracy, or rather the Heirocracy very much did scrub any knowledge they could find regarding Spren, Shadesmar, Fabrials, and the Radiants, which would have included any mention of Singer Gemhearts that had survived to that point in history. Had they not, the modern humans would have likely been farming Parshmen to slaughter the same way they do with some doesticated chull species. -
See Below. He's defiantly in jail as of the start, and likely been there since the beginning. Given how many monarchs across the continent he's killed, and the shaky foundation of the Alliance, I suspect that keeping him alive and not going straight to execution is the limit of Dalinar's influence/control at the moment. To actually Clear Szeth's name he's have to reveal Mr.T's involvement, which they might see as doing more harm than good (for now, at least).

Parshmen Burial Practices and Stone Shamanism
Quantus replied to teknopathetic's topic in Stormlight Archive
The mentioned at one point that the source of their current distaste of disturbing the dead is because in times past humans would strip their corpses for their unique Gemhearts. Given the versatility of that Gemheart for Forms, and the fact that it doesnt sound like any of the know Essence gems, makes me think that those gems are more versatile and/or useful in fabrials. The fact that knowledge of Singer gemhearts was lost is probably one of the few good outcomes of the Hierocracy's scrubbing of spren and fabrial knowledge. As far as the whole Stone Shamanism thing, their issue extends much further than burial practices, they consider it sacrilegious to work, mine or even walk on Stone. My personal tinfoil theory on this is that the Continent itself is a giant Spren, specifically a massive Cryptic-like fractal being that is the one they call The Sibling. We know the Continent is a Julian Fractal, and it's maintaining that shape even with the constant storm/crem damage. And we knwo that the Sibling is supposed to be a contemporary of the Stormfather, who is himself a manifestation of a global-scale phenomenon. If the Shin were aware the the continent was alive, it would explain their view of Disrespect against it. To them it would be like the residents of the Reshi Island Greatshells starting to bore holes into their "host" -
Im not saying every radiant (or any of them for that matter) is going to get the same sort of mental scream issue with the Plate that they all seem to have with Shardblades, Im just saying that the Stormfather specifically made Dalinar promise not to use "Shards", which to the spren mind might very well extend to Plate as well as Blades since both are considered "Shards".

For what it's worth, there is a popular theory that the Everstorm is a new (10th) UnMade. If true that would open up new possibilities, like a Perfect Gem prison.

Friends! Satisfactory is amazing! It's basically Factorio in full 3D. But it now Futurama tubes, sooo.... -
Entirely possible, though if I were in his place Id probably save Odium for last.
-
At first glance Id recommend moving the "Beginning/Middle/End" bits to a more obvious title location rather than in the first line, it throws off the syllable count.

We dont really know any of the details, though we're being told we'll get a lot more of the Herald story in flashback during the back 5 books. What little we do know is that when they are killed (or choose to leave) at the end of the desolation, they get sent to Braize. Once there they are hunted down and then tortured. When one of them "breaks" they come back and the next desolation begins. What that actually looks like, what they when they "break" to actually trigger the return, and what happens to their Blade during that time are all unknowns at the moment.

Well, at the very least Shin would not use it for any literal stone-cutting activities like Dalinar did, given their cultural restriction against mining or even walking on stone. And that's really the only instance I can thing of where a Shardblade would be superior to ordinary tools. I also get the sense that they maintained more of the knowledge of what Shardsblades actually are, and if they consider walking on Stone to be disrespectful, using spren corpses to chop wood would be at least as bad. We know per WOB that the shin believe they are the only ones that still Know what happened back in the Radiant times. And we know that they invaded several times since the Recreance trying to conquer the rest of Roshar, and that they used Honorblades and Surgebinding when they did so. So while they are not the only candidate for those currently hoarding all the missing Blades, they have had the Means, Motive and the Opportunity to gather and sequester them. I personally expect they are part of it but doubt they are the only ones to have done so, with other candidates being the Sons of Honor, the Skybreakers, the Aimians, the Singers, the Ghostbloods, and the Shadesmar Spren themselves. I could even see the Stormfather himself occationally exerting influence on the Storm to make sure a dropped Blade would get buried in crem or lost at sea or some such, given his opinion of Radiants and Bonding at the start of our tale.

For what it's worth, I took that as the Stormfather banning him from using dead shardblades and/or existing plate. I know he complains later when Dalinar so much as carries a dead shardblade, and if Im not mistaken he gave his own Plate to Renarin after Bonding.

Well, for Science then I think we need to wait until we have a proper control example before we assume that the Thrill Resistance can be learned by the Un-Invested. As you said, it's essentially a supernatural addiction.
