I think "Presumptuous" is a good word for it. I get the feeling that it's a little bit along the lines of naming your child Jesus: seen as strange in the US, common in other places.

What is the coolest thing you can do with soulstamps?
Quantus replied to Rosharan A.C.'s topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Nah, a lot of poisons are relatively stable. You'd basically just need to have had a decent chunk of time since you last drew the sword, enough that you could have applied the poison since you last used it. That being said, you would be applying a Soulstamp to the object right at the start of (or in the middle of) a fight, and I suspect it would be similarly difficult to apply the Stamp under pressure as it would to apply the literal Poison. -
I dont think you would be able to use a spike on Rayse directly for that. He does have a body somewhere (Leras dropped his original body when he died) but it may not exist in a normal physical form while he holds a shard. But the critical thing is that I believe Rayse being trapped has more to do with the fundamentals of Investiture and Investment, and that the mechanism holding him on Roshar is very similar to what hold spren on Roshar, rather than a single specific shackle Connection that is chaining him to the planet/system.

I agree, but I think Dustbringers could go either way. They are very self/internal focused which would lend itself to them being solitary and squireless. On the other hand they sure sound like kung-fu monks seeking enlightenment, which means we could get a dustbringer guru on a mountain-top teaching a field of disciples. This guru must have the magnificent eyebrows of a Thaylen (ideally all-white and with a matching beard) like the Kung Fu masters of old.

WOB does say that some orders dont have squires, but I dont know of one saying they were all capable and just chose not to. Can you point me to that WOB?

Sorry, I didnt elaborate on my train of thought. If you are correct that there is gravitational/relativistic contraction of space within the bubble, it would be a stretching of space-time more than a normal, physical strain on the matter inside the bubble, so there might not be much in the way of physical evidence of it. On top of that, the same mechanisms that prevent the red shift and irradiation dangers might provide a lensing effect that hides the space-time stretch and makes it appear more or less normal.
-
If it helps, I think this is the general analysis that led them to magic handwave the redshift radiation aspect of bubbles:

I think it's a bit of a Chicken/Egg thing going on there. We know by WOB that the presence of the Heralds directly triggers a new Desolation. The Heralds thought if one went back they'd prevent the Desolation from happening, though they were apparently wrong. I suspect that the Spren were able to sense the Desolation coming and were making the leap to Bond humans again as a response to that coming storm. So to your question, I think Nale was indeed just plain Wrong. However, my dominant Tinfoil at this point is that Ishar knew exactly what it was doing (and not doing) and is manipulating Nale for his own Mad purposes.

Bondsmith Personalities and Potential Candidates
Quantus replied to Karger's topic in Stormlight Archive
That's just it, I cant think of any evidence that he gets involved with any Bonds but his own with Dalinar. The Storm is involved is a lot of the other bonds, or at least in the Singer Forms, but that doesnt mean he "oversees" those bonds any more than he "oversees" the infusion of Gems during the storm. -
Interesting theory, I like it! Devil's advocate statements: From what we know, Humans bonding spren came after the Heralds creation and was the direct inspiration for it in-world. While the Ashyn people has some form of surgebinding, I doubt it had the same Spren-bond at it's core. This WOB cast some doubt on how much the Humans were in league with Odium prior to their arrival, it seems to have been more of a coincidence or convergence of events rather than a pre-existing relationship. Had they been that integrally involved with Odium, I doubt the resident Shards would have offered and assisted in letting them settle. It makes sense for them to receive human settlers, but less for them to invite a people that were already Invested by another (murderous) Shard.

Bondsmith Personalities and Potential Candidates
Quantus replied to Karger's topic in Stormlight Archive
I dont think he actually "oversees" spren bonds in any meaningful way. He now oversee's spren procreation directly, and separately the Singer Bonding requires the presence of the Hightstorm, but I think those are separate things. If he actually regulated the Bonds themselves, then he would have been able to prevent Syl from Bonding Kaladin in teh first place, and probably been able to prevent all those Singers from bonding corrupted spren to make Stormform. Of those two I would lean toward Mr T as being more likely (Ialai is a dangerous political enemy, but just doesnt seem that powerful and/or saavy in her own right), though I dont like the implications of a Bondsmith being a Team Odium turncoat. As a general statement, I think the Nightmother is going to have a personality something similar to Ivory or Pattern, where they are Interested in the humans and their complexities but will also be somewhat baffled by those complexities, based on how Cultivation said she let the Nightwatcher hold court as a way to learn how to understand mortals (and how Forgiveness was beyond her understanding). For what it's worth, I also suspect the Sibling is going to be the rumored non-binary spren that thinks spren taking on gender makes no sense. With even less evidence, I think the Sibling is a giant fractal-style Spren (a super-Cryptic) that represents the Continent itself and inhabits the earth and stone the way the Stormfather inhabits the Weather. -
^This. It's also how Syl was able to "run away" to the physical realm and hide, long before she ever manifested 100% in the physical realm as a Shardblade.
-
They "dropped" to go to the Physical Realm. Spren leave the Cognitive Realm to manifest in the physical realm when they do, they are not like mortals that exist in all three with the flames visible.

Wear does the black smoke go ?
Quantus replied to twenty second of the sun's topic in Cosmere Discussion
We dont have actual confirmation, but a lot of implication. Leading theories are that he absorbs it and is becoming progressively more invested as he eats things. Investiture cannot be destroyed, and in most instances where investiture is "destroyed" it actually just returns to the Spiritual Realm. But since Nightblood is destroying in all three realms, and is apparently more invested than when he started, it makes that he would be absorbing it, so it goes somewhere and "is not leaving the system". -
At the time of Ascension all 16 shards were roughly equal in power. There's work being done to more accurately quantify the different magic systems and the relative investiture exchange rate of each, but nothings been released yet. In terms of Investiture, yes Harmony has Twice as much as the individual Shard vessels. However, it's a matter of one guy holding two Shards, and while they are in they process of merging they are not yet a truly single Intent. Currently they are two opposing Intents being forced into close proximity by one person and fighting each other, and so the bulk of the power available to Harmony is tied up in that fundamental opposition.

Felt is definitely not Hoid, we have several WOB's confirming that he's a native Scadrian born not long before the Mistborn Era1 events. Not sure what you may be remembering about a Hoid=Felt theory on the Shardcast, unless maybe it was part of their recent "Making fun of our old Theories" episode?

Welcome to the Shard! I like to think of Squires as a tactical boon to their Radiant, rather than taking away from their exclusivity. The squires are entirely reliant on a Radiant being nearby to keep their Windrunner powers, so they are not perfect replacements for a full Windrunner. They also do not get blades or plate, so they will always have that vulnerability. It's also worth noting that Windrunners are a little bit of a special case with squires in that their unique Surge resonance manifests as them gaining significantly more squires than the average order. So we wont be seeing nearly as many say, Lightweaver Squires running around, and we've been told there are some Orders that dont gain squires at all. Windrunners will have an advantage over the others in terms of shear number of Surgebinders they can bring to bear, but it will always be tied to a framework of full Radiant leadership.

In most instances that is not the case. Spiritual healing (F-Gold, Stormlight, etc) work by realigning your physical form with your Spiritweb's platonic ideal as filtered through your cognitive self-image. It's one of the reasons it can heal birth defects if you view yourself the right way, and can even change a person's birth gender. Personally I think it would depend quite a bit on the Cognitive view of that prosthetic and how much you really considered it part of you (which would be distinct from viewing it as an improvement). And in turn I think whether it's advanced enough to impart any sensation. I think sensation would go a long way to making your cognitive self really accept the cyborg arm as a proper part of yourself rather than a useful tool that is attached to your stump. But one person that always secretly wanted their flesh and blood arm back would probably push the prosthetic attachments off and regrow a natural arm, while somebody that really saw themselves as a part-metal person might be able to repair the prosthetic. There would be some practical issues, for example it's a safe bet that such a cyborg arm would be Invested, and that might interfere in a more direct and practical way with healing magic's ability to replace and replicate it's function. As a similar but purely biological test case: Healing has been shown to cure biological diseases. What if you are from one of the Silence Divine Conclaves and you have a disease that is granting you magic abilities, abilities that have become a core aspect of your Self-Identity. Would it be possible to incorporate the disease into your self image enough to exempt those specific magic germs from your healing?

I dont think they have Ideals. The Ideals are part of the bond between the Spren and their mortal Radiant, they seem to be all about bringing them into better spiritual alignment; the Spren judges the Words and the Radiant's actions and can end the bond if they dont live up to it. The Fused dont have any of that sort of Alignment or cooperation, the Fused is a possessing spirit that entirely purges the soul of the Singer they are taking over, and bonds their body via a Gemheart bond more along the lines of a Form of Power. Essentially I think the Fused are more like the Forms where they reside in the Gemheart and manipulate the Spiritweb from there, versus the Radiants or the corrupted Voidbinders that have a more purely spiritual Bond with their spren.

Where exactly is Cultivation's perpendicularity?
Quantus replied to Oltux72's topic in Stormlight Archive
The Horneater peaks have crater lakes on top called the Horneater Oceans. Underneath the ordinary water level of at least one of them is a second layer of an emerald-colored liquid, sitting very still under the water. -
Good ldea. Hmm, what color of eyes would you like to have, should you find yourself on Roshar? *notices user name* Umm, nevermind Do you have a preferred Radiant Order?

Secret History Question (spoiler for Oathbringer)?
Quantus replied to AfjalKhan's question in Cosmere Q&A
Im guessing Lift probably falls into that category now too. -
Nah, anyone overusing a soulcaster risks that condition, called Savantism, even if it's one with multiple Essences; it's matter of the constant use of Investiture warping their spiritweb Soulcaster fabrials that can use multiple Essences are far less common, but not unknown by any means. The biggest reason that most people are suspicious of Jasnah is the fact that she's a professed non-believer and Soulcasters are otherwise only ever used by Ardents. Or they were like Mr T, and were In The Know enough to suspect she was actually Radiant and not just using a fabrial.

Or he's the heraldic equivalent of Rob Lowe, and always looked younger than his actual age. For what it's worth:

Secret History Question (spoiler for Oathbringer)?
Quantus replied to AfjalKhan's question in Cosmere Q&A
I mean, I think Frost is literally the only person alive that can be considered "old" relative to Hoid (I dont actually believe that Hoid is a dragon, personally. But I would generally expect the metallic eyes we saw on Frost to glow like that where he to be in scadrial's cognitive realm)
