  1. There's a tiny bit of wriggle-room in that it's specific about Darkeyes, so from this we couldnt say whether somebody that is already Lighteyes might have their eye-color changed without actually being lightened.
  2. As far as I can tell, both. But I dont think we have an example on-stage to prove it yet.
  3. Honestly I was imagining a term that the different sapient spren species might have used for each other. Which now that I think about it opens the option for both complimentary and derogatory versions of these group terms! A Plug of Highspren (Derogatory) A Deceit of Cryptics (Derogatory) A Smear of Inkspren (Derogatory)
  4. I stumbled across this recent WOB today, and I couldnt think of a better group of people to come up with suggestions. So lets discuss! I think that a single word for all spren groups would be too reductive, the whole point is that they are a vast and diverse ecosystem of different subspecies. So at the very least I think that warrants specific names for each of the Ten sapient Randiant Spren, though a couple generic terms of the lesser spren would be useful too. My first pass, just for a starting point: A Flight of Honorspren A Matrix of Cryptics A Court of Highspren A Grove of Cultivationspren A Stanza of Inkspren A Constellation of Lightspren A March of Reachers A Drama of Passions (ie. Syl's term for lesser emotion-spren)
  5. Two-power medallions are within their current capabilities, and the Bands sure imply that the current limit can be overcome. That being said I think she could still make it work, she would just have to trade back and forth. Use F-Bendalloy to fill a few seed metalminds, then trade to A-bendalloy and get VERY fat (or channel it directly to surges when needed), then trade back and fill more metalminds. It works for Bendalloy because they have good ol' fashioned fat cells as the intermediate storage.
  6. Probably not, on the logic that what she does is turn Calories into Stormlight, but WOB says she's restricted to what she can actually metabolize in a blood -sugar sort of way. So in Scadrial terms, she is doing something very similar to Bendalloy Ferrings expect that she is fueling surges directly rather than filling a Metalmind, and normal body fat & blood sugar are the only storage means available to her. But I think the Allomantic Burning of metals is different enough from actual metabolic Eating that the two Connections wouldnt get intermingled. On the other hand, if she got her hands on the pair of medallions needed to compound bendalloy, she could burn metal to fill metalminds, and then use that for basically infinite fuel to her Surges.
  7. I think this is just one of those things that flows out of the local Cognitive Realm. I think it's similar to the way Shards cant read what's carved on Metal on Scadrial because (I suspect) of the way the Spiritual Realm shines through metals on Scadrial. Gems are similarly tied up in the local investiture ecosystem, and while natural gems exist most are crystallized Investiture leakage from the Spiritual realm that occurs in the native Rosharan species. We also know Gems are actual conduits to the Spiritual Realm (which is how Perfect Gems can give off infinite Light without recharging). So it makes sense to me that gems on Roshar are closer to the Spiritual realm in a way that interferes with attempts to create new ones with Soulcasting. It likely has something to do with why you cant use Perfect Awakening to make something go Grey to White and back to Grey in an endless cycle. We know that using the color from a gem for Awakening will make it useless for Stormlight, so it would be a reasonable theory to think that there is some similar mechanism preventing Stormlight surges from crystallizing more Stormlight conduits. My best guess is that it's a power balance issue, a lesser version of why you "cant" soulcast a Godmetal; you theoretically Could, but it would take astronomical amounts of stormight to provide the equivalent Investiture. I see it as akin to tying to make a cheeseburger with pure electricity by the E=MC^2 matter/energy conversion, technically possible but wildly impractical.
  8. That's a lot of it, along with being capable of more precise physical control. Compare balance to marksmanship: Tin will make you see the target better at a distance, but Pewter is what would let you Aim and Fire precisely enough to take advantage of it. Meanwhile, put a tin-eye on a boat and they might be just as likely to get horrifically motion-sick because they can feel every tiny rock and shimy of the boat but cant counter it, instead of being super-balanced.
  9. Im not personally qualified to speak to all these, but I can offer these: Seems to? Certainly did better than Robert Jordan with the Wheel of Time women in my opinion, and Jordan is considered one of the greats. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/29/#e2025 https://wob.coppermind.net/events/117/#e1612 From what I gather being outside the community, the biggest complaint is that so far it's all been very much in the background and/or off-stage, and he's said he's still hesitant because he'd rather not do it than do it badly. So it's not that sexuality are portrayed well or badly so much as barely addressed thus far. https://wob.coppermind.net/adv_search/?query=gay&date_from=1998-04-10&date_to=2020-07-29&speaker=&ordering=rank A lot of people with mental health issues seem to think so https://wob.coppermind.net/events/355/#e10784 https://wob.coppermind.net/events/103/#e1002 In my personal opinion, absolutely, some of the best around. He's very good at building real people with real motivations instead of the walking story tropes that are so common. I tend to think that is fundamental talent/skill/method and how he handles individual groups will flow from that.
  10. That was true during Era1 and TLR certainly, but in the age of Harmony they know the details simply because he made sure to tell them. He wrote The Words of Founding, which among other things included the true history of the Shards on Scadrial (if not their previous lived or the Shattering or any of that, Harmony isnt very Cosmere-aware). In them he included the real history of Scadrial as known and recorded by the Kandra, as well as the truths about Vin and Kelsier and Crew, their actions and actual motivations, etc. And he is still whispering in many of their ears. Where Roshar had thousands of years and a cycle of cultural destruction to bury events, Scadrial has a god who's purpose in life had been to Preserve Histories, so he isnt allowing them to become as incorrect about things as the Rosharans have. Absolutely. I assume it will be significant that Mistborn era4 where all the cultures are going to start interacting, and Dragonsteel where we learn about those events, will be very illuminating.
  11. The Reod process didnt heal anything while it was broken; that seemed to be the whole problem, it locked up before that step. So I think you'd maintain the pain. The upside for you (if I understand pinched nerves correctly) is that since it's often more of a mechanical misalignment than actual damage that needs to healed (ie cellular repair) you may still be able to remove the physical pressure on the nerve and relieve the pain that way.
  12. Welcome! That's correct, Copperclouds dont block all Allomancy, rather they keeps somebody using Bronze from detecting the use of investiture, but Copper wont affect physical phenomena like sound. So a good old fashioned eavesdropper would still be a danger to them. But in that case our own cold war tactics should work, like thick walls and lots of background noise (one of the benefits of scheming in an active workshop). It's also worth noting that Tin is one of the more problematic powers in allomancy, in that there is a pronounced risk of dependency and overload, and unlike Feruchemy you have to boost all 5 senses together. Those downsides make it less likely for them to have to worry about blanket surveillance, and if their enemies know enough to put a listener on their hideout then it's all over already.
  13. Those were a lot easier for me, probably because they are single silables. A big part of my problem I that my mind adds extra sillables into Nynaeve that arent there, I got stuck thinking it was something more like "Nin-e-veev". Granted I was also only 14 or so when I read most of the Wheel of Time all those years ago, so it may not have been a problem for adult me.
  14. I know this is a personal thing but never got on board with the WoT names as much, I hate when there are names that I have to just learn to recognize but cant figure out how to properly pronounce. I couldn't figure out how to properly say Egwene or Nynaeve, so they bugged my right from the beginning.
  15. Sure, we know color matters in things like fabrials, and we know that chemcial purity, cut, and crystal structure will all effect the amount of time agiven gem can hold stormlight, but I dont recall and cant find anything that any one of the ten relevant gems innately hold Stormlight better or worse than any others. But if that is true I would be very interested to see the context, because it could have some broad and interesting realmic implications.
  16. Really? I entirely missed that, and had no idea that different gem colors had different storage properties. Do you know where it was referenced? I thought that was a very recent invention? If so it wouldnt have had time to affect the market that much
  17. In addition to that, Grain is commonly understood to be a mostly homogeneous much substance. "Meat" by contrast is well known (especially to less industrialized grocery store societies than ours that mostly do their own butchering) to be real muscles with specific structure and cuts and things, which could limit what form and quantity can be made easily. That might make it less useful for the sort of mass-production they need use Emeralds and Grain for. And I can understand why some like Amethyst would be valued above food, since they can make metal weapons and armor. Sapphire's value surprises me a bit, unless they need it to freshen the air in some of their massive stone keeps? Ruby and Zricon too, I would have expected them to be lower since they are far more niche uses. But we need to remember that those market values are an aggregation of several factors, and their soulcasting usefulness is only one of them. Individual colors are also more and less rare than others, based on the species that can produce that type of Gemheart. One of the reasons Chasmfiends are so prized is that they are reliably Emeralds, but there are other smaller species that they breed and farm for gems. So some gems may be worth less simply by an overabundance of supply. Another lesser factor is that the quality of Light they produce is a consideration, which could slightly inflate the value of the clear&bright colors.
  18. Haha, oh right, non-functional fashion is a thing.
  19. Side question, are the boots and tiara and whatnot with all the glowing bits a bunch of fabrials, or are we looking at a really courtly but mostly fabric-analog Shardplate?
  20. WOB confirms that historically none of the Bondsmiths had Blades:
  21. The Stormfather (and WOB) confirms that there are three "God-spren" that can make Bondsmiths: The Stormfather, the Nightwatcher, and one that is so far just called The Sibling. That's the main thing that is confirmed. We dont know much about the 3rd god-spren, and the Stormfather refuses to talk about him/her/them. The Gem Archive gives some hints that the Sibling is related to the function of Urithiru, so we suspect that Bondsmith will be needed to revive the full Tower. It also says that it was considered "seditious" to have more than 3, rather than actually impossible, which has led to the theory that a Radiant might be able to convince an Unmade to bond with them and create a voidbinding Bondsmith in the way that a corrupted spren can make a voidbinding version of other Orders.
  22. ^This. I think it was Adolin that talked about how he always had to do at least two swings, one that killed but didnt damage the flesh and the second to start actually digging once it's just meat.
  23. I would prevent the entire skinny jeans & man-bun hipster movement, if I could. Also somehow go back and Fix the Green Lantern Movie. Because I like challenges.
  24. I votet that it should be (in order of the Orders): Protective, Just, Brave, Loving, Giving, Honest, Careful, Resolute, Dependable, and Pious.
