Syl, to Kaladin, is constantly nakedish
Quantus replied to i’m in the details's topic in Stormlight Archive
It is also simply less of an overwhelming thing among the Darkeyes compared to the lighteyed aristocracy. Darkeyed women cant afford to hobble themselves with a sleeve all the time so they more often just were a glove, and consequently have less mystery around their safehand. I think the analogy there women wearing pants rather than skirts or dresses in frontier times. -
Nalthis has it's own limitations on what you can do, specifically in what you can do to yourself vs another thanks to the nature of Endowment. Another one of the differentiating factors with ReGrowth is that the Intents of all parties gets involved, so that's the subject and the radiant, and likely some of the Spren's perception as well (there is with Soulcasting so there likely is here too). But also Kaladin's scar issue is not as common as it may seem, he's more of a fringe case.

Please give me some horror movie reccomendations
Quantus replied to a topic in Entertainment Discussion
Cabin in the Woods and Severance (2007) are both fun takes on some classic horror tropes. Tremors is a classic if you are too young to have discovered the awesome. Started as a proper monster flick and evolved into one of the cheesiest franchises of all time. Some of the classic Steven King is worth the time, Im partial to the original Firestarter. -

Does Anyone Ship Jasnahoid (Jasnah & Wit)?
Quantus replied to SymphonianBookworm's topic in Stormlight Archive
In a story with as much Flashback as these have, Im going to withhold judgement on whether the flow of the relationship makes sense (in retrospect and with all the details, and all that) but I do think it makes sense for the character(s) as we know them now. If you can accept that romantic feelings can exist in an asexual person (totally a thing, btw) then Hoid would easily be a sort of idealize intellectual fantasy in many ways: absurdly clever, wise entirely beyond his "years", so intellectually acrobatic that he could remain stimulating indefinitely, and in possession of ALL THE SECRETS OF THE GODS AND UNIVERSE. Also impossible to kill, and incapable of it in return, making him Safe in a way few Queen's Consorts could ever be. Frankly, my biggest question is How Sincere is Hoid in all this. Jasnah's perspective makes sense to me, and if Hoid's just normal lonely his does too. But he has an Agenda, Always, and I so I really hope he's not working an angle... -
It would not necessarily Corrupt the Everstorm itself but it would/could tinge the investiture flowing into the Physical realm through those other Corrupted stormform spren that were used to Manifest it. You appear to have arrived at your own conclusion and then refuse to consider even the possibility of other evidence and instead dismiss it all at non-existent, despite folks going to exhaustive effort to illustrate otherwise. Please try to remember that supporting evidence can and will exist for explanations that are ultimately proven incorrect when the rest of the information becomes available, and just because you do not personally find some evidence as compelling as others it does not mean that the evidence is non-extant OR the logic is flawed.

Missed your point, sorry. And it's a decent one, damn. Maybe since the physical Everstorm ended up being Connected to the Physical Realm through the a bunch of Singers with enlightened Spren giving them Stormform instead of a Radiant Bond, it might not yet have any reason to manifest as Corrupted prior to both of those thresholds.
-
The actual Storm itself was locked in the Cognitive realm, but that doesnt (necessarily) mean the spren couldnt reach out and or manifest a normal (ie not fully physical) form. Especially if Im right in that The the Storm and The Tower are godspren equivalents to manifesting fully in the PR as a Godmetal blade. The Everstorm would then be more along the lines of the far lesser solid, pre-bonded form that Syl was able to pull off. And not all Voidspren are Red. "Some of golden light, others are red shadows." per OB, and I think the red ones are the older ones from when it would have qualified as foreign/Corrupted Investiture, while the Golden ones were created since Odium has more heavily Invested in Roshar enough to integrate into it Tones). Given that he was actively concealing the fact that a real herald was Right There, nah I think he was mostly selling him a fairytale of Immortality, and was after a more ordinary if Enlightened Bondsmith. Im super curious what the surges of such a thing would look like; not very likely but Im hoping for something like Spiritual Division. Rayse might have had longer term plans for some herald-equivalent immortal Champion, but suspect he didnt care beyond breeding his own Bondsmith capable of directly attacking the Oathpact. That would make the "proper reverence" talk probably more about the Everstorm's ego in wanting a Bondsmith that respected the arrangement (even if he'd been kept ignorant, presumably to make him more pliable).

Worked for a 2nd generation NY Pizza guy. His answer to this was that Pinapple works great but only with the Swine meats like ham. So then I tried Bacon & Pineapple pizza and realized that is its Final Form.

Discuss the Stormlight 5 Prologue Here
Quantus replied to LewsTherinTelescope's topic in Cosmere Discussion
(Cross-posting from the Support group thread to get the counter arguments. @Serack, mind catching me up to the general state of the discussion? I know you have it tabulated somewhere. ) Ive been away in the dark times for a while so I've missed most of the conversation on this and don't really know where the theories stand (or why this one needs it's own support group...) Ill try to catch up soon, sorry. But in the meantime: My current belief is that Gavilar was talking to the Stormfather sometimes and the Everstorm in at least most the prologue, and had been consistently lied to by the Everstorm. I think the Everstorm is trying to bond a Bondsmith, and was piggy-backing the Stormfather's Connection to his potential Bondsmith, hoping to steal Gavilar by guiding him to wildly different Words. The standout details that drive me to that are: The Lying. The Stormfather hates so much as being misquoted to the point that it's the only time he gets verbose. The wildly different physical manifestations. No other Spren has show anything close to that level of difference, even when they can shapeshift like Syl. The fact that he actively steers Gavilar away from the real words and towards some other more aggressive sounding ones (much like the difference in the old vs Void Rhythms, feels like). "It is not the destination that matters, but how one arrives there.” Not even close, the spren said. VS "“Give it to me,” Gavilar said. “Now. I need it.” The Stormfather turned a shimmering head his direction. That was almost them." I think the Everstorm was trying to steal the Stormfather's potential candidate, but decided that tricking somebody that aspired to be a Radiant wasnt the way to go (too much mixing of conflicting ideologies) so he's going to jump to a more pure and properly prepared Odious champion like Moash (or anyone else that has been presented as a Champion candidate). -

Possibly. What does "reformed Christian" mean?

Doylistically I Duplicating the memory is most likely. Without that mechanism we have to wonder how Hoid got such a specific and suspiciously incriminating Memory of The Sovereign. That being said the WOB's about the Lord Ruler's memory abilities sure imply that there is something specific there. Compounding Zinc instead might explain it, and if he can Copy the memory into the Coppermind rather than Store it, he could likely develop a habit (or savantism) those two compounded metals should let him backup every waking moment for later review.

Damn, but that also makes me feel better actually. I thought it looked exactly like the H-bomb test footage they've used in every movie since Godzilla, but figured Hollywood was the one to get it persistently wrong and had maybe grabbed some less classified test footage to use as a stand-in. I figured this was some experimental thermobaric bomb or some such with a deceptive scale on film (that couldnt possibly actually be as big as a nuke). Teach me to grab the first search result I find.... I remembered once seeing an old archival video that showed each metal reacting with water in the sequence, showing how each element down the series reacts more and more violently. I wish I could find the one I remember, but all the ones Im seeing on youtube are more modern and only have the readily available (and/or non-radioactive) elements.

Where can I find out when Brandon will do a livestream?

Same question, but if it involves mysterious newfangled things (like this "Discord" I keep hearing about) please explain it like I'm a curmudgeon of at least twice my actual years.- 2 replies

"it would do something" EDIT: also, for scale, it is more explosive than any of the real alkali metals. This is a video of a Francium bomb explosion, and it's worse than that

Spoiler - which herald died the same night as Gavilar
Quantus replied to Odontosaur's topic in Stormlight Archive
As far as I know the current leading theory is that it was Shalash Chanarach who was secretly Shallan's mother. As the theory goes, when Shallan killed her (as a child) with a surprise shardblade it was one of the few things that could kill a herald and send them back to Braize; she went back and then herself Broke (explaining how Taln didnt break per WOB). Ive seen this one kicked around some but I dont know all the details that go into it or if the timeline fits.- 4 replies

Do Seons and/or Skaze come in different "sizes" or power levels they way spren do (from small animal spren up to godspren, etc)? I know they are far fewer overall and dont have the same sort of ecosystem that they are a part of, but if they are "sparks" thrown off when the Shards were Shattered, were all those pieces of a uniform size? The question occurred to me recently but I couldnt find any info either way. Any thoughts? If not, anyone have an opportunity to ask a question coming up?

I dont think so, since actual (loopy) Time Travel is impossible in the Cosmere.
-
Up to a point yes, but the eventual problem with Pewter is that the muscles bloat out and physically start interfering with the mechanical range of motion. That range is a function of the skeleton and its physical dimensions, so they would not be able to alter that part on the fly. They could probably be able to make some sort 8ft bigfoot super-skeleton optimized for the pewter muscle mass interference way better than a standard Human, though. It might be as simple as modeling a set of carved bones off the koloss.

Those are not actually the same thing at all, which is why I wanted to clarify it. Common "Farsightedness" is the inability to focus on things up close while having relatively normal vision at distances, because your eye's lens is out of focus and projecting things past the retina. Every person that needs reading glasses (or otherwise only for activities up close) are technically Farsighted (unless there is something more exotic going, of course), and most of them got that way simply by surviving Life past 40. That's entirely distinct from the sort of telescopic vision that Feruchemy provides, which isn't actually a real effect in the animal kingdom as far as I can find. Many animals can see at extreme detail at great distances (eagles being some of the best), but no animal literally zooms in to see that detail at the expense of peripheral vision. Feruchemy is a lot more of a video-game sniper scope effect than anything, and when you're storing it your vision widens back to normal but then gets bad at all distances, rather that anything on the traditional nearsighted/farsighted spectrum. In other words F-Tin is a slider for Detail Focus at the expense of Peripheral Vision (until it all gets bad, and I assume you can store up to full blindness), but not "Nearsighted vs Farsighted" as an optometrist would use the terms. The main reason I wanted to clarify it is make sure folks understood that it is not like Electrum has turned out to be (ie. Bi-Polar Disorder in a bottle, and giving you the ability to swing between a Depressed state and a Manic state) where both tapping and storing in large amounts can arguable be bad for you. It's more useful for balancing yourself than providing a super-awesome magic Enhancement from either storing or tapping the way Tin and most other metals do. Though Electrum probably has a future being Compounded and shared to keep space-ship crews from getting too depressed on long deep-space missions, right next to a Bronze/Bendalloy/Cadmium chamber offering standard sci-fi cryo pod sleep.

Just to clarify: not "Farsighted" as in the RL medical condition requiring Reading Glasses, Farsighted as in eagle-eyed. Tapping sight causes the edge of the Windwhisperer's vision to blur, and sacrifices immediate field of vision in favor of a more distant, binocular view. When storing it makes the sight overall weaker in some way that can be remedied by glasses, but I dont think the weakening showed any preference to objects close or far away so I think it is more like a form of general Astigmatism.
