  1. I honestly missed the fact that he was seeing words and number manifesting independent of the images, Id been assuming he was seeing those words and times as part of the images, pages in peoples hands or clocks-equivalents on walls or something. So Awesome Queston, @TheWadehart So the question is how his power was feeding his brain words and numbers before his brain new how to read. Given how Language can be gained so easily with a Connection, implying that it involved more than learned patterns in Brain Matter, perhaps it's just something that flows from the Truths in the Spiritual Realm the same way Connection can bring spoken Language. Another possibility is that Glys could read, even if he forgot how when he transitioned to the Physical realm (the way Pattern and Syl forgot things), and since the Surges arise from a Connection/merger between the two of them Glys's involvement was enough for the Surge to translate ideas into those written symbols.

Lightsong all day long. Specifically any time Loghtsong and and his Priest are absolute Gold.
  3. If being inside the room didnt prevent the realmic transitions and Investiture access and whatnot needed for Soulcasting, I dont think it would block the communication in the case of a Bondsmith. The disclaimer is that Im basing that on the theory that the three Godspren exist in the Physical Realm more independently than normal Radiant Spren, which is why they do not require a Bond to maintain sapience but also do not manifest Blades. If, by comparison, Syl was in blade form and got locked in an aluminum box, I dont think Kaladin would be able to talk to her.
  4. No, that's fine. This one bothers me more than it really should; normally I can at least understand where the other side is coming from, can follow the logic of it even if I dont agree with it. But here I just cant figure out why you folks have decided to discount the presented statements, and so far all Ive been able to glean from the arguments presented are various restatements of "Self-Image is critically important," which I agree is accepted fact but is also beside the point as I see it, because as far as I can tell it can be both easily and without conflict. I just hate it when I try and then fail to understand somebody. EDIT: One Question while we're on the Topic: One of those WOB's mentioned that AonDor had external healing. It's been too long and I'd entirely forgotten that there was another Cosmere example of external Healing outside of the Returned's Super-Healing with Death Requirement. Do you recall any details about it?
  5. Nope, no help at all. Because Im not the one saying that there is a ticking clock, the character who was using the surge to heal dozens if not hundreds of people was saying there is a ticking clock after he observed that not a single one of them was able to be healed after a few days, even after having seen Radiant healing able to heal long past that. Everyone else seems to be entirely dismissing that fact because...I have no idea why. To use your really odd weekday metaphor, there is a guy living in the Arctic Circle telling you that where he lives you can and will never see the sun during the winter, at all ever. You keep insisting that it must have just be coincidentally cloudy every single day this guy has looked outside, because everywhere you have been that's the only explanation when you cant see the Sun during the day.
  6. I never said it did, only that the evidence strongly suggests that the process is different. Your assertions that the Only limitation is Self-Image assumes that there cannot be any additional limitations with ReGrowth. I think Ive been unclear in what Im saying here, because it feels like Im having an entirely different conversation than everyone else. I am not nor have I ever said that ReGrowth does not rely on the target's Self Image, at least I have not intentionally said that. What I am saying is that both the evidence we've seen on stage and the first-hand conclusions of the characters is that Regrowth has a relatively consistent Time Limit on it's ability to function (Just like Dalinar's use of Tension to "heal" inanimate objects). Given that, I think it is a logical fallacy to assume that anyone who cannot be Healed by ReGrowth is limited by their own Self-Image, because doing so entirely dismisses the other limitation that we've been told of for this specific Power. That's what had be pulling my last three hairs out, I see that as no different than assuming that Lift would have identical limitations as Ferucehmical Subsumer simply because both abilities operate on very similar underlying principles. So to be clear: I do not really think that ReGrowth can override a person's self image*, so nobody is going to force Kaladin's scars to heal. But I do think that some people who are beyond the reach of ReGrowth is due to the evident Time Limit, and they might still be able to heal if they themselves become Radiants or Squires, so long as their Self-Image still allows it. *Disclaimer: Ok, so I dont really believe that kind of hostile ReGrowth is possible. But I cannot discount it 100% in light of @Ookla the Prolific's 2nd WOB, which states that in External Healing like a Radiant healing another as his specific example), both perceptions would factor in. It wouldnt be be OP for a Surge when compared to Soulcasting, after all.
  7. There you go, that second one confirms that there are indeed going to be qualitative differences between how stormlight healing works when used on yourself vs another (the other two dont really apply here) so we cannot assume that ReGrowth is going to be identical to radiant self-healing.
  8. You have pronominal Sun and Moon subschools, as well as the Blood magic folks. Is there also a Stars or Darkness power? Do those two require direct Sun or Moonlight to function, limiting them to times of day? Do lunar phases have an impact? Does the world have multiple Moons? What makes Cantor's "End Positive" as compared to the others? How do the Sun folk achieve this "Heightened State"? What happens when the Writer and the Reader have divergent Intents? Are these limited to mental effects?
  9. There are a few possible explanations, but we dont have any actual confirmation or specifics yet. As @HSuperLee points out, depending on the specifics of the "Hack" he uses he might be converting Stormlight to Breaths first, then feeding his Divine breath with that. I doubt this one though, because if true I see no reason why that new Breathe wouldnt work for Awakening, and we've been told that his survival hack doesnt accomplish that. He could theoretically go to Cultivation's Perpendicularity (as a Worldhopper he'd know where it is) but we've seen him chilling in a hammock during the weeping, so I dont think this is his solution. He could have a stash of gems that he stores in Aluminum, which theoretically would bottle the Investiture inside until it was opened. Or he could simply have some very large and/or well-cut gems that hold him over. If he times it right he'd only need to cover one feeding during the weeping. He could have made a deal with a Spren to supply him with usable Investiture during that time, or perhaps his "Hack" is actually Old Magic rather than a trick he figured out himself. Of Course, now all he has to do is learn how to cook Lift's favorite dishes.
  10. So you assume, which is not proof. Nearly all Cosmere healing we've seen so far follows very similar rules. But then, for the reasons I mentioned, the progression surge is already qualitatively different because the healing is being done to others.
  11. So far we havent seen any spren of Body-Parts, which makes sense because Spren are things that are being anthropomorphized as separate entities, and beards are still perceived as characteristics of a given person. Now, something like Fashion-spren or Style-spren representing the more abstract personalizations (with individual spren representing individual trends even?) or perhaps the underlying emotion might work. I could see it manifesting as something similar to Artspren/Creationspren, being as similar and yet as distinct as Art is to Architecture.
  12. Id say so yes, but I think we'd be talking about overcoming the innate Investiture of a person, so it would be comparable to trying to Steel-push metal inside somebody. It's going to take a boatload of investiture, to the point where it might be prohibitive without serious shenanigans. I think it would be significantly easier to drain your own, however. Agreed, though if Im remembering Warbreaker correctly some colors provide more fuel than others so a smokestone and diamond (as a prism if nothing else?) might be poor sources if still technically possible. Once a Gem is drained, it goes cloudy, which I suppose is consistent with the idea that it would affect a prism or light-bulb rather than the projected light.

    Tenth heightening

I think it's an entirely reasonable theory. I also think it is incorrect, but only because there is something specifically weird happening regarding the actual role of Color in the cosmere, something He's holding back for a forthcoming book (Im assuming Nightblood). There is a WOB that confirms something else is happening with the color drain, something that explains why an object that has been drained to White by Perfect Invocation cannot then be used by a normal Awakener and be drained to Grey, then back to white, etc etc in a cycle.
  14. Personally I think Breaths give you the better Sensory package as compared to either Metallic Art (though Compounding might challenge it), plus the additional Life Sense which has all kinds of Spy potential (especially on worlds that dont know to look for Heightenings).
  15. This. A big part of me would like the instant gratification of it all, but getting all the answered prevents you from using it for this sort of ongoing speculation. I feel both sides of this every time I binge a new Netflix show, it feels great to have it all (at least a season at a time) but there is no chance to enjoy the anticipation.
  16. Always a possibility I suppose. But I dont think so, only because I think it more likely that Progression simply has different rules because it's an External Healing rather than one governed/effected by the person's own Invested spirit-web (as is the case with all other spiritual Healing that I can think of). Renarin has gotten a lot of experience with Regrowth, and he had no preconceptions going into it. So for him to look at the evidence and conclude that he his power correlates to a Time Limit rather than a more personalized and otherwise random Self-Acceptance limitation seems highly unlikely to me. It would represent a big enough Watsonian logic mistake that if Renarin didnt notice the problem, Jasnah would.
  17. Renarin (arguably) saw himself as flawed in ways that kept him from being useful, both his eyesight and his seizures. See, I would argue the opposite: that her current feelings of being "flawed and useless" are the more transient Cognitive parts, while the fact that she still tries to stand subconsciously shows that her deeper self-image has not incorporated the damage.
  18. The same could have been said of Renarin, and his eyesight healed up. But that entirely ignores my point, which was that her subconscious, reflexive behavior still believes she can walk and tries to act accordingly. That tells me she hasnt actually internalized it as part of her Self yet, despite of her current state of depression.
  19. Ok, Im going to preface this to say I dont really buy this theory (yet), for reasons both strong and weak, but it's a fun thought experiment so Im game. I dont think Endowment would be the kind to meddle with the others, at least based on her Letter. She seems to take a very Hands-Off interpretation of an Endowment, its about passing Power along but not so much about maintaining control of that Gift. But she might be the best choice to Act to ensure the un-held/dead Shards find their way to new Vessels. Honor's Nature seems to be more specifically focused on Bonds, on Connections (based on Honorspren calling themselves spren of Binding), so realy any Connections between Shards could be affected. If so, his might have the power to manipulate what locations Shards are Connected to, manipulating where they are Invested. S/He might also be able to help Sazed more fully Merge his two shards, reducing their internal antagonism. He could be the source of Shards being bound by their Oaths, but I tend to think that is jus tht result of having Power that directly manipulates reality itself; Lying is hard when your statements can accidentally become reality. Cultivation would likely be able to influence how the Shards change their Vessels over time, while preservation might be able to act to prevent it entirely. Perhaps Ambition could have smothered Rayse's...

  23. Sazed s my favorite Vessel. Cultivation is probably my preferred Shardic Intent. If including those not fully confirmed, Ingenuity is wildly interesting to me.
  24. That's adding a lot of assumption. All we have is the Stormfather saying "It is a new thing, but old of design." Simplest answer is just that it was based on the Highstorm itself, which itself is one of the oldest things around, having predated the Shattering itself. Giving Odium credit for the design or confirming when he conceived of making his own are both things we dont yet have confirmed.
  25. It's important to remember that Kandra dont ever "replicate" a body, they just mold themselves into what they decide is the the correct shape. They cant even replicate things like hair, they have to take the originals when they "digest" the body and place them individually on themselves. What they can do is create their own version of functional sensory organs like eyes and ears, and there's nothing that requires them to be placed in a skull, so they should be capable of creating them wherever they are useful, even on the palm of their hand. Still, Im in the camp of the biggest limit on becoming a body-part is the Equal Mass/Volume issue. They might be able to pull it off with on a large enoguh person, but at the end of the day there are going to be easier places to hide, anything from an animal (something with an exoskeleton would be a novel experience) to an inanimate object (Personally Id impersonate the inner lining of a set of plate). Life as a Ryshadium would be a pretty decent retirement.
