It should probably read Autonomium, the metal of Autonomy. Autonium doesn't follow Greek naming conventions and at best translates as Thisium and at worst Selfium .
-
I like the idea of that. I'm not too knowledgable on metals and spiking, but would a spike made of 2 metals work? Also, Oudeis I think Autonomium sounds better than Autonium.

I don't have any answers, but I do remember a passage in a book (not sure if it's TWoK or WoR as I am abroad currently) where Syl lands beside a water pool that is illuminated by a purple stormlight emitting sphere and Kaladin has the impression that her features/face change. So possibly yes?

I agree with you. I always thought Honor restricts seeing the future, because you should choose to be Honorable regardless of the future. If you know the future, you may change your actions or the actions of others. I always thought Honor can see the future (as referenced by him in the last vision in TWoK) where he says the future is like a mirror that is shattered in many pieces (or something close-on vacation and have no books with me). He even shows Dalinar in that vision what he fears may come to pass if Odium wins.

Why are "they" present at Gavilar's assassination?
Kelek's Breath replied to Herald's topic in Stormlight Archive
And he is piously guiding a pile of rotting veggies? Interesting. But he most likely is the the God-priest in Tukkar, whom Mraize thinks is not a local variety human. Which would also fit with the Herlds being the opposite of their attribute (pious turning to blasphemous-claiming to be a God-king). And could he have been in attendance that night as a foreign tributary before going on to Tukkar?- 27 replies

I think in TWoK Dalinar says that he didn't start reading The Way of Kings until a while after Gavilar was killed. Specifically, he starts seeing visions a few months after he first started reading the book, and it doesn't seem like he has seen that many visions, so maybe 4 years or less of influence on Dalinar. Remember, that in the beginning, Dalinar is like the other Highprinces in their fight against the Parshendi. So most of Adolin's sense of morality would come from his mother's side.

I don't know if they are that different than us, because it took about 5000 years to go from cultivating plants like cereals in the Fertile Crescent to great civilizations like the Baylonians, Egyptians and Greeks, and then another 1500 years until the modern technological advances in Europe, Don't forget all these civilizations had advanced sciences and mathematics, but due to religious/philosophical ideas the technology did not advance. So if anything they are advancing as fast if not faster than we were, since we see them fighting with leathers and skins at Aharietam. We also don't know what type of wars there have been. Have they had continent wide plagues? Any large wars that delay/destroy progress? Too many unknowns to guess at why they haven't advanced. I would guess it would be due to religious reasons and maybe scarcity of raw materials.
-
I can see this happening and I also read the Prelude text as being ambiguous whether there were surgebinders on both sides of the battle, and I can imagine Ialai as one of the first Human corrupted (at some point Sadeas is talking to her and she is distracted and not paying attention-possibly speaking with a spren). After all, in one of the in-world WoR epigraphs, it talks about a Radiant and their spren being subverted by the enemy.
-
I don't know if this is exactly true. According to their Songs, the Listeners turned to Odium after the spren started bonding with humans. If human legends are true, and voidbringers followed them from the Tranquiline Halls, then there are types of Voidbringers not seen yet.
-
Upvote for: But, what happens when a sword that wants to destroy evil kills Odium and picks up the shard? A Shard that Hates Evil?
-
I don't have much to to say about this theory except this: does this sound like it fits with Honor's intent? Picking random humans on Roshar at the beginning of each Desolation and shoving a spren bond on to them, making them Heralds and possibly having them killed at some point in the battles? Would Honor do that if the person was not aware, or didn't choose it themselves? I mean, I wouldn't necessarily want to take on Taln's burden because I look like him and have his temperament.

One of the 3rd party who comments on the hair is Kaladin, who thinks to himself that Adolin's mother could have been from Rira due to the blond hair. We haven't seen anyone from there as of yet, since it far to the West, but I would accept kaladin's opinion, as it would be based on the books he read with his father.
-
If Dalinar's visions offer proof, then no, because in the Purelake vision, the Radiant is talking to someone, but Dalinar thinks she is talking to herself; no spren visible. Also, there is a WoB that some spren have difficulty hiding themselves, while others are better at staying invisible.

Everstorm = Destruction of Shinovar
Kelek's Breath replied to Herdazian's topic in Stormlight Archive
The tense you are using implies that it is a done deal. I don't know if it is certain that they took dramatic damage, or that their crops are destroyed. Yes, if the storm does hit them dead n it will wreak havoc, but we don't know what is going on there. Shinovar seems to be untouched by previous Desolations. There are magicks at work we still haven't fully comprehended. While I agree with your belief, others reading this may get confused and take it as fact. Is there anything left in Aimia after the scouring? Seems humans have been more harmful than the storm there. Edit: Ninja'ed. -
Everstorm = Destruction of Shinovar
Kelek's Breath replied to Herdazian's topic in Stormlight Archive
It's a possibility. However, there might be something magical going on in Shinovar, besides just the environment. They get the remnants of the storm, but why don't they get crem? And don't forget, Szeth and Nalan are on their way there to 'punish' the Stone Shamans. So Nalan is expecting that they will at the very least find survivors. Here is another thread which examioned the question: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/32779-are-most-of-the-shin-dead/ -
Taravangian Wasn't Entirely Lying: A Taln Identity Theory
Kelek's Breath replied to Moogle's topic in Stormlight Archive
Sadly, I was RAFO'ed when I asked the clothing question in the AMA. I still think they retain clothing they went to Damantion with, and it doesn't get damaged from the fires (or it does since Jezrien's fine clothing was burnt). And we won't know until possibly the 2nd cycle of books. Hopefully we'll know who Taln is by then. https://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/2ytg2h/im_novelist_brandon_sanderson_ama/csfjn09 -
Thanks Moogle for answering. As for the Listeners, SA3 spoilers Although Kaladin seems attracted to the stormspren in one scene where he is guarding Elhokar, when there is something red outside the shutters. He is drawn towards it and begins opening the shutter. Maybe voidspren tug at the inate Odiusness in each Rosharan/Listener to get them to come out to the storm.
-
Does this mean that Roshar is just a big build-up of crem, on top of chains of islands and small pieces of land? Does that mean that the oceans are not that deep?

Taravangian Wasn't Entirely Lying: A Taln Identity Theory
Kelek's Breath replied to Moogle's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well, the wetness can't be because of the Surge of Transportation, or else Jasnah would have been wet at the end of WoR, so if "Taln" did use it, it's from the place he is arriving from. But he must have excellent sense of direction because he shows up right outside the gates. Dalinar sees something that may be a regrowth fabrial in a vision, where a Radiant of the Stonewards heals him and Taffa. He doesn't call it that because he has never seen anything like it, or doesn't expect fabrials to heal people the way it did. On an another note, how does a Herald show up to warn people with sack-like clothing? Is that how they showed up during every Desolation? -

How is it that spheres need to be re-charged outside, during a Highstorm? Can't stormlight penetrate inside structures or is it only certain types of structures? It seems that Shallan could re-charge her spheres inside a wooden wagon when she was with Tvlakv, but she put them in a basket on the mast when she was on the Wind's Pleasure. Also, why can't Stormlight penetrate, but the Everstorm's power can supposedly change Parshmen even when inside buildings?

A Semi-Objective Look at a Herald's Identity
Kelek's Breath replied to Witborn's topic in Stormlight Archive
I thought Veden was an offshoot of Alethi, related but not the same. So, if she is saying perfect Alethi, it probably means Kholinar Alethi or some such. Is there an ideal form/version of Alethi that is taught in schools? Because this is what someone using that Babel fish thing would probably use. And could it be that when they say speech it is not just accent, it is also vocabulary and grammar. Hoid says 'perfect Alethi, with no hint of accent". It could imply that he is using proper vocabulary and grammar too. After all, if an english spy in WWII had perfect German accent but didn't know German grammar or vocabulary, they were as good as dead.
