  1. Ok, my prefix splitter spits out strings like "apearlytreeamedalrearconnvelinknmonesumsmsonrrkneerizethearonrfabidgiawnearstrexton" as possible decodings. Note that it only works for English (as opposed to phonetic. If somebody could come up with utility that transforms english words into their phonetic approximations, like "the" to "ze", that would be very useful) The script also only works on prefix codes, so something that has "1" and "14" as separate codes would stymy it. OK, I am going to hardcode "12" "13" as codes and see what happens then.
  2. For what it is worth, 1234 also appears two times, before and after 5511, but that might be just a coincidence Edit: and 149149 make it likely that 9 is a single code digit
  3. I mean, take every 15th number then rotate once you reach the end of the string (treat it as ring). At least some numbers should span all the digits before repeating when taken this way. Unlikely, though, given the structure present in string.
  4. Well, using 10 as a code didn't end up with any proper splits as all. And transposition -or simply mixing the letters invalidate statistical methods working on bigrams and trigrams Also, maybe we are supposed to permute the number string before decoding... Take every 15th number or something...
  5. Ok, I am going to explore substitution a little more I know it is probably futile. I've cobbled together a small script that splits the string into prefix codes randomly and then tries to solve for substitution using WoK as source for probability distributions. So far only gibberish comes out XD Though due to nature of the check some gibberish actually looks like text , such as "icantiedasomettiltamidetiefusshitdnlanslustorsolouseeans". I am going to sleep, to, will check if it spit out anything in the morning Edit; for now, I assume "10" to be a proper code.
  6. Pattern, you want something like http://www.gtoal.com/wordgames/simple_cipher/html/substitution/algorithm.html Assuming 26 letters, of course - alethi have less, iirc.
  7. Also, 0 is always (that I can see) preceded by 1, they might as well be one symbol... 11182510 111271249151210 10 111410 21511711210 111217134883 1110 71514254143410 91614914934121225410 10 12512710 151910 1112341255115251215755 11123410 11129151210 61534 ?
  8. Ooh, transposition angle. I know next to nothing about it, so I'll concentrate on prefix coding for now Edit: 11182510 11127124915121010 11141021511711210 111217134883 111071514254143410916149149341212254101012512710151910 1112341255115251215755 11123410 1112915121061534 Those "111" are suspect. Suspect, I say
  9. Spoilers I liked (well, as much as I can like anything) most of the book Except Shallan flashbacks. Those just didn't mesh with me well, perhaps because of my own inner demons Szeth's revival was.. weird. The man had his eyes burned out and went splat along the stormwall, and yet didn't sustain enough brain damage? Wut. Still, I find it hard to dislike him as I once had. And now, let's mine the book for info
  10. I believe some of the Parshendi stated that the voidspren themselves were what they called "gods"
  11. So, "Brandon trolls us" theory That is a valid possibility, I guess
  12. Yes, they are mentioned, but they are (those that we know of) vast, nebulous and very different from all other spren we have encountered, Stormfather included. No spren feed on death to provide glimpses of the future! (that we know of)
  13. Soo... Chapter 84 has a strange numeric code as epigraph. Let's try to decode it here Unless I missed a digit or two, that is it. I have been looking on it for a few days, and so far cannot make head or tails from it It is not a straightforward substitution, since there are too many 2-digit combos. So, the questions to be answered are (for me): Is it a prefix code? Does it include transposition? Does it have a progressive key, like Vigenere? Does it translate into English or Alethi (phonetic)? Does it include actual numbers in code? So.. any ideas? Let's try to discuss it together Edit: The quest is done:
  14. My interpretation is that Parshendi are, in a way, like spren - without spren, they are rather (in Physical) stupid (slaveform), and thus cannot provide purchase in the physical Realm for intelligent spren, since they don't have enough themselves (which leads to the implication that dumb spren bonded to Parshendi get ..dumber? in physical. I am not sure on this point) I think it is rather straightforward: They lived in a land far away (Braize? Or different part of Roshar?) when the first Voidspren were bound. But initially, the change was gradual, before they taken over completely, and became their gods. Perhaps the first contract was to help them return to Roshar, rather than actually fight humans? And then, over time, changing Rhythms, making them more warlike, etc... The most interesting part for me is the Unmade. Just what are they? They cause death rattles and Thrill, so, are they spren? Are *they* perhaps, Adonalsium spren that broke when he shattered?
  15. Perhaps... But what about whoever it is that is guarding Blades in Shinovar? After all, they said to Szeth "There are no radiants left. Only us." - which may mean that they thought that there were no Radiants, or that they were the last ones, and I highly doubt they were Skybreakers.
  16. OK, this is more speculative, but, IIRC: Ruin's mind was largely contained near the WoA. A chunk of Ruin's shardic body, like a splinter but without self-awareness, was contained and channeled into the pits. Whether the pits themselves were deliberate or side effect of, well, chunking Ruin is unknown, but I think deliberate release valve. The whole system was made by the sacrifice of Leras's mind (or at least the sacrifice provided the necessary power that Ruin didn't expect)
  17. Not the physical... I call them "cycles", personally. It is the "body" than spans all 3 realms. Essentially, it is like this: when a person burns metal, he uses Preservation's power, but that power returns to the Preservation as soon as it is used up. When Preservation moves planets around, that power returns to the Preservation. But when human dies, his soul (that part of it made up from Preservation) doesn't (seem to) rejoin Preservation. It is separate. Same thing with Ruin and atium. Atium cycle is separate from Ruin: atium condenses in the Pits, is burned (into spiritual?) and returns to Pits. Ruin has no say as to where it goes. He can, however, find it, partially manifest (as mist spirit?) and eat it, reabsorbing it into his body (all of it, spiritual, physical, etc). Then he would be able to overpower Preservation by some slight margin, and destroy the world directly (presumably).
  18. I am sure See my other posts for reason, if you will. And yes, you are probably right about scale, unless the moons' orbits are *really* elliptical, which is unlikely. Hmm. Just thought it was worth mentioning. Astronomy is not one of my strong points.
  19. The atium was a part of the body that was separated from Ruin. Burned Atium returned not to Ruin, but to the Pits. Ruin needed to metabolize atium back into himself before regaining lost bit. Incidentally, the amount of power cut off in atium cycle seems to be exactly the same (in size) as the part used by Preservation to make humans sentient, balancing the two forces.
  20. I implicitly grant permission to post my conversations, unless explicitly stated otherwise. It is a measure of trust, in a way - I simply try not to say something that a person I am talking to would have reason to pervert before release. With attribution, of course
