I *am* at work Literally. And I think it was your post, Feather, that inspired me to go to a nearest bookstore and take pictures of the Mistborn covers to upload to the gallery. Shiny...

If that means what I guess it might mean, then no not really. I didn't buy them in Japanese just because I could possibly read them, though Also, Brandon is probably not a number person either, so he either had help, or he ...

Why do you have them in French? Are you one of those "french girls" I hear rumors about? Anyway, you are a Writer, so, any insights? @Pattern: Yes, but is the code self-contained, or do we need to hunt through WoR? And some pieces definitely look binary to me (grumble grumble mental exhaustion)

Pre-printed Question Cards for Events & Signings
Satsuoni replied to Argent's topic in Events and Signings
Yes! It is the same topic I raised long, long ago, sometimes in chat, and, I think, at least once on forums... But I am timid and afraid of downvotes, so I didn't pursue it at the time... But yeah, the idea was to essentially circulate the cards with questions in the line, as well as, maybe, providing a link to the theoryland database so people would stop asking something like "Who is your favorite" I don't feel that it would be callous, just efficient But then again, I have learned most of my emotions (or maybe reactions to them?) from fantasy books and cartoons, so they might be a bit off. I also thought about fancy cards. Why, just last day I daydreamed about going to a signing with a pack of cards, like MTG (on cardboard and all) but with 17thshard logo on the back, and maybe an avatar of the person asking instead of artwork, and letting Brandon draw one or two... (Drools a little) Alas, it is unlikely that I'd ever get to a signing... -
I am assuming that is because he used transposition and substitution, and wrote pieces of code in binary instead of decimal, and now laughs! Laughs as he consumes our sorrow and frustration, I am telling you! Also, I assume think the splinters of my decaying mind are cracking. But nevermind that. The code "as it is" is attached with all necessary files. Out of fear respect I have removed the actual text of tWoK/WoR that was used to build up tables. What the script does is systematically split the code into prefix codes (still prefix, I am afraid. I may change this in the evening), assigns letters to the codes and tries to solve substitution. If the first several decoded symbols form words as found in text, it outputs the dcoded string and writes down details in file. To run it, just run "python codecheck.py", it takes no arguments. code.zip

That is the only kind of spoiler That is, one of the few things that I would put into spoiler tags. Still, maybe I should have been more explicit.

Weaponizing Illumination, or Shallan Eye Lasers
Satsuoni replied to Satsuoni's topic in Stormlight Archive
Fumu, all true... But at least by properly manipulating sound she may be able to create illusions that one can, to an extent , feel ( by localizing vibration around illusion edges) Also , it seems like Shattered plains were shattered by resonant vibration, which falls under Illumination surge, it seems -
Vasher hears voices? I may need to reread Warbreaker...

Weaponizing Illumination, or Shallan Eye Lasers
Satsuoni replied to Satsuoni's topic in Stormlight Archive
It is not about realism, it is about Awesomeness But yeah, flashbangs are probably easier... Though I think lasers eat less energy, just concentrate it better. -
Where did *that* come from?

I still want to read "The Revelations of the Chamber Pot, rotation 13"

Hm, I think I am going to do something else for some while, and go to sleep for today. My mind is rather blank...

The script doesn't seem to use any advanced libraries, so a barebones installation of Python 2.7.6 and some knowledge of command line... Ok, what kind of things do you want it to ba able to do? Randomly split the code and give a decoding? Be able to fix some codes? Or just as is (which is probably very confusing)?
-
Asking him would be nice Maybe we can at least narrow down the type, and eliminate possibility of transposition, etc ... As for the frankenscript: reading it is less important than having the ability to run it... Not all people can use Python and commandline.
-
Ok, I am trying to decode the first 60 symbols for now, so that my program would run faster. As mentioned, it splits string semi-randomly into prefix codes, assign letters to codes and try to solve substitution using tWoK as a pattern for letters and words. It is still probably futile. This is what it came with for now: acheandirtseabethadneangullowaed ringhasnyothermenowahauldicres shinetomeaaspacksteasedullfrsat And other like it Incidentally, can any people in this thread run Python scripts? If so, I may consider releasing randomized version of script for others to play with.

And yet you consider a nonprefix code which is an order of magnitude harder than prefix one XD Article on that topic: http://scholarworks.sjsu.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1175&context=etd_projects Edit: ok, straightforward bruteforce doesn't work when '10' is considered a code and code length is limited to 2 (It is impossible to parse message in a meaningful way in that case). Good to know, I guess... Unless I made a mistake in the program somewhere.

It can be used for that, or used for something else, depending on how many codes you use for each letter. I cannot stop thinking that, in Brandon's place, I would have encoded the message like this: 1. Split it into blocks of ten letters. 2. Take every second letter of each block splitting it in two of 5 letters each 3. Write out the letter numbers of each subblock as a decimal number 4. Take the resulting decimal number to the power of 15 modulo however many digits it had originally 5 Write all resulting blocks in sequence. 6 Encode sequence into any distribution at all using arithmetic coding of Huffman mods 7. Laugh madly looking at 17thsharders trying to decode it.

Weaponizing Illumination, or Shallan Eye Lasers
Satsuoni replied to Satsuoni's topic in Stormlight Archive
I say Probably... I am not sure it requires knowledge per se. A lot of her illusions seem to work on instinct. As long as it is drawn by her, believed by her and possible she may be able to use it -
Numbered key cipher seem to be a case of relatively simple homophonic substitution.

I don't believe there doesn't seem to be a thread about this yet. When I was reading WoR, it came to my attention that Lightweaving can produce light, and, presumably, sounds. Now, sneaking around and deception may be good and all, though I have a hard time convincing myself of it. It certainly is very useful in a variety of situation, but something about it disturbs me, deep inside. No, what I thought when I read about it was "Eye beams" So here I present a few obvious ways of (possibly possible) Lightweaving weapons. (Aside prom patently obvious like "conceal your weapon" or "make the chasm look farther away than it is" 1. Lasers! Especially eye lasers. Lasers are, mostly, nearly pure, concentrated, monochromatic light (I am aware of exceptions). And though Shallan has to draw whatever illusion shemakes, she can employ impressions (how is she going to draw sound) and inexact pictures to a degree. Thus, I envision Shallan drawing herself setting somebody (Kaladin?) on fire with her fiery gaze, and then actually gaining this ability. "Burn, Bridgeboy!" And of course, not only eye lasers, but also lasers from any other part, or from Pattern 2. Sound: Sonic weapons Those can also be used in a variety of ways. High-decibel sound to dazzle. Infrasound for low-grade subconscious fear, feel of supernatural. Ultrasonic bursts for fun and profit - possible disorientation, concussion and heart attacks. So... Thoughts?

I have left the bruteforcer script running, I 'll see what it comes up with when I get back. Are we sure we are reading in the right direction, btw?
-
The problem is, to apply it to substitution I need the list of all words in tWoK written in alethi, to build probability tables.

They probably are, but I have no idea how It may be as simple as thematic correspondence, or one may be the key to another...
