  1. Roshar is not the only planet in the system, and Braize (Damnation) could be actually close enough to affect moons, though its actual position is uncertain.
  2. Amazon is like that. Sometimes it is late (my WoK was late by over a month), sometimes it is early (my WoR arrived on friday). You never know... But it seems to be based on hype somewhat... and country.
  3. And... It is open...kinda. Hoid is..(edit: was) the first Hunter ,after... testing? Nyaa... Edit: Well, the old codes do not work damnation Edit: And now Hoid is gone as if he never was Here is what it looked like:
  4. The Hunt of Radiance?
  5. Usually, yes. There are contests on Twitter and facebookj, like "take a picture of yourself with WoR", etc. I expect it to be similar in this case. And of course, I expect our staff to create something like, ahem, shardhunt.
  6. Oho, I didn't know anything about those cards. Another thing I won't be getting. Eh.My link still works, Argent. Brandon's site is the one that puts words in the link
  7. Finally, somebody with some sense Well, this one haven't started yet, but is apparently planned, and the post ready (for those who haven't figured out the link, look in the browser address bar). To participate, you must get a code from Brandon or someone else, and enter it at provided link - at least that is how the last one worked. We know next to nothing about this one, since, well, it is not yet running. Maybe it is completely different
  8. The post is still private But hey, the WoR is not out, yet Officially...
  9. Are you excited? I know I am excited Now if only I knew anything about it besides the name...
  10. Well, my book is come. I'll read it outside, for the weather cleared up just for this I must say, chapter 7 validated a lot of my ideas, like the flames. Heh. Also, I do send out spoilers now, but only those I've got myself
  11. Perfect At least I am not alone
  12. Mine should arrive tomorrow... If it does, I'll give spoilers for those who ask How could I act otherwise? (Ask in PM, naturally, and not too many )
  13. I think I'll made seq mode video with a square plate with a hole in the middle, to illustrate some other script capabilities. It would take some time (script isn't very fast). As for varying thickness - it is relatively easy to model, actually. I believe the patterns would blur and distort around imperfections, like they do around the nail in the middle in the videos. I think the video I am making might help illustrate the point. EDIT: Here we go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5vwRs7JQdc&feature=youtu.be http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzDvkS3-uhE
  14. Believe it or not, I have researched this, including the Cymascope, Chladni plates, etc. Which is why I am reasonably certain that some of the patterns cannot be easily created on metal plate by a pure tone. They are lines, you see. If the tone is resonant and pure, all the sand goes into antinodal lines very quickly (you can actually see it on the videos you provided). Further, the nodal lines on circle don't form triangles, unless they are moving... As far as I can tell. The pictures you have provided resembling Kholinar, however, are water images. Water is much more complex than plate, and above all, the pattern on water is usually transition (moving) image. Now as I said, if you take into account damping that freezes sand before it finishes distribution, you may get something like a dynamic picture, but that requires precise timing... All in all, I just find it unlikely, especially on a single round plate (and it would have to be round...) But that is just IMO.
  15. A simplified translation: "See the pretty videos You could maybe make other like these."
  16. Summary version. A long time ago, soon after I have read WoK for the first time, I was intrigued by the description of cymatic patterns in it. Naturally, I sought to model the Dawncity shapes on PC, and failed. The resulting patterns (an example can be seen here) are certainly interesting, but in no way do they remind one of the goal. Setting the "plate" to be circular just made concentric circles in most cases. Recently, however, my interest has suddenly resurfaced, and I tried it again. I started off with the techniques similar to the ones I used before, modeling the wave on square grid (pixels). As before, results were not what I wanted, and in general not very impressive, even trough I added damping, hoping for improvement: Results (videos): ( I am not sure how video embedding works here) Anyway, disappointed, I moved on to raytracing approach (well, kind of raytracing). The results were strange, probably from lack of experience, though some shapes generated vaguely reminded of the targets. Results (slideshow as video): Finally, I reminded myself that I was only interested in static shapes. And those were nothing else but eigenvectors (or eigenfunctions) of differential equation describing vibration. I worked with that, and switched from C to python since I don't like Fortran. I know, not the most coherent of sentences. Some research and a small bit of programming later, oh frabjous day! The extracted eigenvectors showed promise. After a bit more modification, something approaching the cities' shape has emerged! And I have also learned that sand was unlikely to produce such patterns, especially from the pure enough tone. From several harmonics, with damping taken into account - sure. On water, as transition shapes - sure. But on a plate, from a single note - I call shenanigans Then again, I might have missed something. Anyway, results: Then I started to play with the model, trying in various ways to approximate various shapes, starting with simple tone applied at a given point. The approximations, naturally, looked nothing like the original shapes Results: Since the end script is written in Python, after careful discussion with Nepene (all praise Nepene!) I have decided to make it a little easier to use and share with those who want it. (Mind you, "easier" for me apparently doesn't mean "easy" at all, but it should be manageable) So, here is a long and confused description, for those who want play with it! 17. We have Tsubame somewhere around here... If I were still a student, I think I could apply for its usage, actually Yes, I think actual Highstorms are somewhat weaker, though the same fundamentally. Otherwise there wouldn't *be* New Natanan
  18. Ah yes. I think that is one of the threads I was referring to when I said "It came to my attention that many people on the forums seem to consider the Highstorms to be a variation of the Earth storms, perhaps grander in scale, but operating under the same principles." I've thought of it as a detonation wave from the beginning, so I did agree with your post then. But without a proof, I never bothered posting Somebody must have posted something about them recently, when I had more free time to devote to the modeling problem.
  19. Ketchupcow isn't Ketchup soulcast into cow? I do agree that her ability to control may affect her ability to soulcast. Though Shallan seems to do it somewhat differently.
  20. Of course, the problem is that the Breath can be spent, and then you might end up with a simple metal spike in your guts. Or maybe the stolen Breath is stapled to your soul and you *can't* spend it on Awakening. We really don't know
  21. You probably cannot recognize them in the dark, ate least not as well as in the light. Siri doesn't notice anything much unusual in God King in his bedchamber, while in the daylight he is quite distinctive. While she doesn't have extra Breaths, is still probably means that auras are harder to tell without light. Likewise, I highly doubt you'd be able to tell misting/mistborn/ etc. Certainly not by Aura Recognition of the first Heightening. The God King sight, maybe. Spren.. maybe, but also, not on the first Heightening, I think. Elantrians away from Elantris don't glow as much, but that still is a visual cue, so, if they knew what to look for, they should be able to recognize it.
  22. Heh. I haven't been watching anime, recently, preferring manga. Tell, now show, right? I really enjoyed Mahoujin Guruguru. It was, IIRC, the only comedy anime that was actually funny. But then, my sense of humor is somewhat lowbrow, running to potty and slapstick in text form (Tom & Jerry is not what I'd consider funny). Doraemon is nice, especially the older stuff before the censorship hit. Naruto and bleach are running their last manga arcs. Maybe a year more A lot of newer anime is... strange to me. Often too deep, sometimes oversexed or undersexed but rarely in the middle. Very little simple stuff. And as noted above, a lot of it seems to degenerate from its original premise into one of the major plotlines (action, romance, comedy, etc, each full of their own cliches). I haven't seen one actually dedicated to, say, MMORPG in-world for the whole run Ah, Disgaea anime was pretty fun too, though.
  23. No, Brandon doesn't He has crafty Peter do it for him I don't feel like searching, but it was mentioned by trusted sources that Brandon doesn't want to get distracted by our awesome debates
