Could you add cats as a playable race, while you are at it ?

Kinetic energy has changed. Take for example, an explosion (bomb) - the total momentum of the system is 0, but energy goes from chemical to kinetic and heat, and then back to potential (deformation, heat, etc). Same thing here, only instead of explosives, Preservation is used. Direction has no bearing on energy value, only mass and squared velocity does. Also, momentum, AFAIK, is preserved in all (or most) allomantic interactions.
-
Yes. Momentum is balanced, energy is gained.
-
Ok, my mistake. The energy is 50*1/2+5*100/2, frame of reference - Center of mass of Allomancer/Object, in space. Negative kinetic energy does not exist for positive mass. Energy uses squared velocity, which, for non-complex numbers is always positive. Um,no. Momentum is mass multiplied by velocity, a vector. Energy is a scalar, and currently negative energy is just as theoretical as antigravity. Also, inelastic collisions, strangely enough, conserve momentum, but the energy goes from kinetic into heat. Also, IMO, Iron Feruchemy does not cheat. It just uses full definition of system energy, which is kinetic (sum of m*v^2/2), plus potential (depends on charge/whatnot), plus mass at rest (m*c^2, relativistic). And it all transforms into mass in the end. So when momentum changes, Feruchemist just taps his mass energy.

OK,that is weird. Multiusage of a single attribute.. Definitely in need of the book now. P.S. In context of my pet theory, may work if you need to touch metalminds for wiping

Yes, there are. The world of Scadrial, however, was made by Ruin and Preservation, so I kind of assumed that it is made of them, in a way. Additional bit of shard in a human souls gives them sentience AND access to magic systems: (HoA): Also, gravity surge on Roshar was referred to as "spiritual link between objects", so it is possible that interaction is at least facilitated by the shards existence. Essentially, what I am trying to say, is 1. There are parts of shard in humans that are passive but useable. 2. Shards can create mass/energy and absorb/store mass/energy, so the mass/wight of Feruchemist is stored as Shardic energy while in metalmind.
-
I had a theory that explains conservation of Momentum, too. Simply put, momentum is only saved if there is no external energy input, and in case of Iron Feruchemy, mass becomes energy.
-
Um.. I fail to see how that is not an energy positive reaction. In your examples, the system before has 0 total kinetic energy, and after the push/pull has 50*1+5*10 joules of kinetic energy. In case of astronauts with long arms, that energy would come from chemical energy in their muscles. In case of Push/pull it would come from external source (Preservation). So, Energy is gained.

I made this theory.

Ok this is stupid, probably many times reiiterated theory about Investiture on Scadrial (mainly, and IMO), spared by my debate with Kurkistan here:. It will currently be lacking in quotes and spaces, but I'll try to fix it later. What follows is manly my opinion (so I won't have to add IMO after every sentence). Investiture is actually just that, the power of the Shard invested in a person or object. There are two qualities of Investiture with two types in each. The first one is ..let us call it Activity. The Investiture can be active (Allomancy) or Passive (weight). All object in the world have at least some passive Investiture which defines their presence in 3 realms. Active investiture is limited to sentient being (human) or artificial construct (Shardblade). Next quality is Limitation. The Investiture can be Limited by some pool (Feruchemy, Well of Ascension), or constantly cycling through an object (All passive investitures, possibly Hemalurgy). So all Feruchemical attributes are in fact a kind of Investiture being stored in metal, transforming them from Ongoing to Limited by temporarily shunting part of incoming power into metal. Each metal can accept only one type of filtered shards power, and accepting it changes the metal nature. Once all of the metal is rewritten, the metalmind is full. Burning metals is utilizing your connection to Preservation to access some of its power filtered through metal. It destroys the filter in the process, and grants you specific ability. If the filter happened to have been changed by feruchemy, you gain the Feruchemic attribute instead. So that a half-filled metalmind will give you both Feruchemic and Allomantic powers, but for half a time each. Since power is tapped from unlimited instead of limited well, you gain more than you have put in, but you cannot control the output rate well (only burn to flare). Also, the influx of power does to the filter the same thing mists did to Vin's body. Next: human souls. Also, Hemalurgy. Human soul is an Investiture, too (Passive, Ongoing). Hemalurgy transfers parts of it to another person, by redirecting the flow of power . Additional power to your connection to preservation may give you additional abilities, etc. Now for the last part: Nicrosil theory. Nicrosil is a metal that stores raw Investiture, raw power of the Shard. This power, when drawn, follows the easiest part. If you happen to be a Feruchemist drawing an attribute with Investiture, it will add to the attribute. If you happen to be burning a metal, it will add to the flow of power from that metal. If you have a Human Sthrenght spike, you will get stronger. If you are not burning or drawing, but still tap Investiture, it will add to your soul. A little. It will make you temporarily a stronger Allomancer if you were one to begin with. If you draw really a LOT of investiture, it will work as Lerasium, and make you a Mistborn... until it runs out. Although this particular effect should take inordinate amount of investiture, so that even Twinborn Compounders won't be able to utilize it for more that a few seconds at a time. Draw even more - and your body starts breaking down from strain of raw shardic power, but you will be able to access powers of all metals, like Vin. Ok, so that is my take on Investiture (rough draft). Enjoy.

This Just my impression, but I think this: Implies that in the end, no Allomantic charge is left in the metal, which is why Miles does not have Gold flashbacks all the time.
-
Hm.. I do not agree with all points (also, filling metalmind to capacity removes the allomantic ability, if I understood Brandon's interview correctly), but I think I'll just post a new topic describing my Investiture theory in detail. Hm.. do you think Hemalurgy is a limited Investiture (like Ferichemy) or ongoing Investiture (like, in a way, Allomancy)?
-
O..ok. Last question then, what about nicrosil/ nicrosil twinbron burning metal mind filled to capacity? It should release investiture even without tapping it, if I understand the process correctly
-
OK, maybe I am wrong. What about hemalurgy, then? That is also Investiture. Also, the Twinborn do get a boost then, but what about pure ferrings? Are they completely useless? That does not seem right. Also, what would happen if you just try to tap your investiture? All other metalminds can be tapped separately, and even duralumin can be burned without any other metal (it just does not do anything). So if you compound Investiture as a Nicrosil/Nicrosil, and then draw it all in one second without burning/tapping anything, will it just disappear?
-
Amplify only? I thought they could draw out any attribute at will Does that mean that Nicrosil Ferrings are Gnats? A pity if so.. Or maybe they can actually store their souls (which are Investiture)? Also, I agree that Feruchemical Investiture and Allomantic Investiture are separate, Allomantic Investiture working like mists for Vin. Actually, I think there are at least 4 types of Investiture: Feruchemical, Allomantic, Hemalurgic (draining spike charge), and Human Soul, but that is just guessing. (Nope, don't have the book... or a credit card. damnation) As for Alluminium trick, I thought that since you can only steal one Feruchemic power per Feruchemist, you should steal Identity, and gain access to all his stores by tapping it. (Totally called the Metalmind usage).

That is why I said that "internal" works better. If the family is far away, the only way for him to deal with threat would be to teleport there (using quantum tunneling effects), or something like that. Hm. Well, anyways, what would happen to the Fortune Compounder that taps a lifetime's worth of luck in a few minutes? And starts, for example, randomly beating on the keyboard (while hoping to write a book)? Could he then go like "What? While typing randomly I have exactly duplicated the Amol 2 months before release? Lucky!"
-
Define "bad" or " good". I mean, is getting a free lunch in Mac good or bad for me? It is enjoyable, but bad for my body. The luck is not defined well, and is usually affected by later happenings. That aside, if luck is governed by current perceptions, does it mean that you can " invent by luck"? Like, in the following setup: a Fortune Compounder has his family and/or himself if he does not invent FTL drive by the end of the week, and given 125 cubic meters of chromium. He fills it, and then tas it for an hour of super fortune, and starts drawing random lines on paper, by sheer luck resulting in FTL blueprints, with instructions on how to build it. This works especially well with the "internal" theory, actually, with which I kind of agree, actually.

Mistborn Adventure Game is Out + Contest!
Satsuoni commented on Chaos's article in Brandon and Book News
It would be welcome -
That does not address the above point, that each metalmind has a limited capacity that seems to be independent of charge rate. As for "diminishing returns", consider a battery. If we take metalmind as a battery, current as a draw power, "resistance" as constant, and "voltage" as a variable controllable by feruchemist, we get that to increase the "current" (drawn power) 2 times, you need to increase voltage two times, and your power consumption goes up 4 times, so you'll eat through the same charge 4 times faster, not 2 times. But there is no energy loss per se. [EDIT] You see, almost nobody has addressed the opposite effect - is it easier to draw less energy? If you charge half of your weight for an hour, could you draw quarter for 2 hours? Or more? Afaik it is never used that way (correct me if I am wrong), so we don't know.
-
You know, I am wondering, is there really a difference? I mean, each metalmind has a limited capacity, right? So once it is charged, you can draw a certain amount for a certain time, but the amount and time are independent of the original charge rate (you can charge at quarter-strength, half-strength, but the result is the same). So unless the capacity changes depending on charge power (which would be weird, and there is no indication to that effect that I am aware of), a draw is a draw. For example, a ring would contain enough of your weight to go double for an hour, or triple for 20 minutes, etc. What exactly is the term for? Drawing very, very much? (Sorry if this point was already addressed)

Right, forgot about that part. Yes, I agree that he probably just synced with his plate better. Of course, that just might mean KR potential. There are, I believe, several threads dedicated to discussing this.
-
Well, yes. I didn't know about pressure when I started this thread, so I called it Adhesion. Also, there are in-world names, such as Soulcasting for Transformation. Increased strength and healing speed seem to be just side effects of having Stormlight in the body, unrelated to the Surgebinding per se. So it is only available to those KR that can infuse -take the Stormlight inside themselves, rather than having it in gems. Whether all KR can do it is debatable (for Soulcasting the type of the gem seems important, so maybe they can't infuse properly). Also, I don't think it is Healing. I am sure I wrote this in the OP, but it was said that originally fabrials were ways to emulate KR Surgebinding, but then the abilities were expanded. So it is possible to create fabrial for each Surgebinding ability, but not everything that fabrials can do can be replicate dthrough Surgebinding. Well, I thought so also, but the stones in the fabrial-like device are wrong, and also, love/healing describes, IMO, qualities necessary to gain access to abilities rather than abilities themselves. I mean, for Kaladin, it is protecting/leading (honor, nobility), but his abilities are Gravity and Pressure. The gemstones, on the other hand were standing for flesh and bone, so maybe it was indicative. I still think that was not a fabrial, more like a gem holder, like Jasnah's soulcaster, but I may be wrong. And yes, there are 10. They are on the Surgebinding chart. 10 orders, 10 abilities. And I think Jasnah is a Dustbringer, but that is just IMO related to the fact that she transforms stuff into smoke and fire. I am probably wrong, of course.

Um, Ookla is a common name right now. Please use Satsuoni. Anyways, in response to your notes: I am not sure they can detect void, although that is possible. Maybe they just have some means of long- distance communication, like a bat signal. Regrowth may have been a fabrial, but may have been not, the device being used just to hold Stormlight( that is what I think). I also think (pure speculation) , that Stonewards travel through stone, fast but not necessary instantly. The windrunners just bind themselves to the direction and fly. I have updated the chart on my PC, but have not uploaded it, so this one is slightly incorrect.

I comment thee on your efforts? I guess.

Rather arbitrary, i am afraid. It is likely that one of Spiritual metals would steal Feruchemic spiritual power.
