  1. I'm just hoping for exciting, intuitive gameplay (that doesn't get boring quickly), graphics that aren't eyesores, a good story (since Sanderson wrote the outline I'm less worried about this one), and Cosmere Easter eggs.
  2. I'm making it for Windows, but if there's a big demand I'll look into making it Mac compatible.
  3. Seconded. I've nothing against Keanu Reeves, but he's really not who I picture in the role. All that graphic proves is that Keanu Reeves is the Lord Ruler. Liam Neeson would be an amazing Prof. He could play the character so well. Especially the darker moments. However, "Liam Neeson isn't killing anyone in this scene." *DING*
  4. DO NOT FEAR, PEOPLE OF 17TH SHARD! THE PROJECT, WHICH I HAVE NOW DUBBED "Weeping Blade" (name is subject to change). I kinda went on a bit of a hiatus, so here, have a picture of a model I just finished of an Alethi short spear! I added Blender materials to make it look a bit more like how it'll look with real textures. In a few weeks I might be able to put gameplay video up showing some of the mechanics and characters.
  5. He's 50. I think that's old enough. Patrick, you're just making me feel old.... (Seriously, no hard feelings.) He doesn't really look that old...or maybe I just haven't seen him in a movie in a good while.
  6. - Well, Sanderson has said in WoB* that he wanted Allomancy to make some sense within physics. It is most logical (to me, at least) to accept that Pushing/Pulling, pretty much the most recognizable part of Allomancy, follows this precedent, rather than assuming it is the exception to that rule. Unless Sanderson comes out with a statement refuting this, I have no reason to make assumptions that make Allomancy inconsistent. - I highly doubt that the coin would disintegrate in mid air. I mean, bullets don't. And bullets are propelled by a sudden and violent explosion, not a smooth, uniform Steelpush, sending them flying out at over twice the speed of sound, in some cases. What are bullets made of? Lead, or lead with copper sheathing. They handle these stresses just fine; they don't just disintegrate in mid air. V Making the assumption the lowest denomination coins commonly used by Mistborn are made of common metals like tin, copper or bronze, which makes sense, considering the plentiful supply of those metals in the books. This is further supported by the fact that the lower value coins in Medieval eras here on Earth were made of these types of metals. Plus it's said in the books that silver/gold coins exist in the Final Empire, if I recall correctly, but the small coins are used because of their lack of value, suggesting they are made of a more common metal. V Bronze, copper, and tin are fairly tough when compared to lead. Based on the Brinell scale, which measures the ease with which the metal can be punctured, lead scores 5 MPa. Of the metals probably used in Scadrian coins, tin is the lowest with 350 MPa. Copper is next with 874. I couldn't get a number for bronze, but it's apparently multiple times tougher than copper, so you get the idea. According to the Mohs scale of hardness, which measures how difficult it is for a material to be scratched by another material, lead is again the lowest, though admittedly tied with tin. V So bullets are made of a softer metal, suffer more violent acceleration methods, and are accelerated to a higher speed than the coins. Bullets don't disintegrate, so I doubt the coins would either. - Sorry for the long post, and I apologize if I sound offensive in this, or like I'm belittling your opinions. I just wished to explain fully why I believe this theory of the mechanics of Allomancy and why I don't think your rebuttal will change my opinions. *
  7. According to the Wookiepedia the field holding the blade in its form acts kinda like a super-magnet, increasing resistance exponentially to prevent solid matter from interrupting the blade's stability. It's possible this field could cause the Lightsaber to "clash" with a Shardblade, though it would be more like blades being bounced back by a cushion rather than hitting something solid.
  8. Szeth's Blade is pretty short compared to most Shardblades, yeah. - The Windrunner in this fight would definitely have a range advantage, so if he/she could keep the Jedi at bay then they'd have an advantage, but in close quarters the Jedi would have an advantage.
  9. Original post specifies that the Shardbearer is a Rank 3 Windrunner.
  10. I kinda interpreted the Shardblade answer as this: - A) Shai would have to effectively create her own Shardblade if she just tried to Forge herself having one without any connection to one prior. - and - If Shai bonds a Shardblade, then unbonds it, then Forges herself to still be bonded to that Shardblade, she can create a "fake" bond to that Shardblade that can "coexist" with another bond, though hilarity would ensue if they both tried summoning it at the same time.
  11. It's still reaction time. If it wasn't they wouldn't be able to do it. They may not be *thinking* about it a ton, but they still perceive the coin coming at them, process it in their brain, and then they react. They just happen to do it way faster than normal humans (insert theory about Investiture enhancing mental capabilities here).
  12. (Slightly unrelated, but Mistborn are actually kinda OP when compared to other characters throughout the Cosmere. Seriously. They dodge/block coins on reaction without Atium. When you take into account how fast those coins could be flying (based on the average weight of a person, because Mistborn have to be able to Push with at least that much force to lift off the ground, the mass of the coin, and 1 meter of acceleration from a constant push, and you've got near bullet speeds) and how often Mistborn react to them (not aim-dodging or precognition, just flat *oh there's a coin headed my way* *Push/Dodge*) and you've got really superhuman reflexes and reaction speed. - Then you take into account THIS^, and compare it to how fast Steel Feruchemy can make you. Someone using Steel Feruchemy moves so fast not even a Mistborn can track their movements, and Mistborn are already bullet-timers.)
  13. Legacy canon or New canon for Star Wars? - New canon is fairly close, I'd give an edge to the Shardbearer because of the range advantage and versatility. - Legacy canon is a stomp in favor of the Jedi. In the Legacy canon, anyone who has spent a couple years or more becoming attuned to the force becomes superhuman. More superhuman than holding stormlight, given the current feats from the two books. Hand eye coordination and reaction speed go through the roof. Precognition alone makes this match heavily in favor of the Jedi.
  14. I've been thinking this for a while but I never bothered to make a post about it. The only issue with it is that the powers of Surgebinding come from both Honor and Cultivation (I think?), so the fact that Honorblades also give the same powers would be kinda odd if the Honorblades were pure Honor.
  15. Nice! Whenever I'm trying to explain how healing works in the Cosmere in the future I'll have to link them to here. This was very well written and easily understandable. - Though I did run into the old "whenever I read TES I think of The Elder Scrolls rather than The Emperor's Soul" issue.
  16. JUST HAD AN EPIPHANY MOMENT! - So the epigraph of chapter 3 of the Way of Kings is “A man stood on a cliffside and watched his homeland fall into dust. The waters surged beneath, so far beneath. And he heard a child crying. They were his own tears.” - So I've seen speculation that this could be referring to Dalinar watching Kholinar fall or Kaladin seeing his hometown destroyed. I have not seen an interpretation that I have just thought of. What if this is Szeth watching Shinovar be destroyed by the Everstorm? "The waters surged beneath" could be the wall of water carried by the stormwall. The cliffside could be the mountains ringing Shinovar. Also, Shin and Szeth particularly are regularly described as having eyes that seem childlike to Easterners. Destroy this theory of mine!
  17. I wasn't going to include that, it's way too complicated to code and would really break the game .
  18. 1. Probably 2. No clue. 3. I'll try this, but if it ends up being too complicated I'll stick with static objects. 4. Probably a button press while near a source of stormlight. 5. Probably not, that's too complicated for me.
  19. I don't think Half-Shards were around in Alethkar at this time, but good idea! If I end up doing more than one "Mission" I'll probably do the sequence where Szeth attacks Jah Keved (?) where the King has a ton of Half-Shard users. I'll probably have some kind of mini-boss in this, maybe a Lighteyes who's good at dodging or a partial Shardbearer who has only Blade, but no plate. IDK I'm still planning a lot of stuff right now. In other news, here's the finished Honorblade model! I need to work on texturing it (probably going to do that tomorrow) but I've done a few things to it since the last picture. I've added the handle, cleaned up some of the messier vertices, widened the guard so that it's slightly offset from the blade, and slimmed the blade down so it tapers as it gets closer to the tip.
  20. Yeah, that makes sense. I'm probably going to go with a composite bow design then. And yeah, I'm going to try and have a bit of diversity with the enemies. There'll be spearmen, axemen, guys with javelins, and guys with bows. There'll also be Lighteyed squad captains that have swords. And then there'll be Gavilar. - Also, here's a picture of my unfinished model of the Honorblade I did earlier today! I need to add the handle and refine the model a bit. I may also need to reduce the number of faces on it to save on processing power, because down near the crossguard I have a lot of faces making the spikes and curves on the blade.
  21. You mean how am I going to prevent people from flying out of the map with gravity powers? I'm not sure yet, there's not going to be much outside stuff (outside means WAY more to model) but I'm thinking that I'm going to put in restrictions as to how far out the player can fly, like the height ceiling in GTA or something.
  22. I realized that pretty early on. I'm definitely going to stretch out the sequence a fair amount. If it turns out really well I may also make more levels where you play as Szeth during his other assassination missions. We're programming in Unity, I've made first person controls before a couple times on other projects, and there are plenty of guides out there on how to build third person controls in the engine as well. I've been doing some minor modelling stuff for about a year but for the last few months I've been practicing a lot (I'm in a game design class). Yes, I am using Unity/Blender for programming/modelling right now. I will likely never be able to put this on Steam or anything like that (Unless I get the Brandon seal of approval saying I can, but I'm not going to ask for that), but I will set up a download for it so that anyone can play it if they want to do so! Nice! So am I, actually.
  23. Hey, 17th Shard! It's been a while since I've actually logged in on here and done stuff (I've been lurking for a while, again), but I have something I think you guys will appreciate. I am working on a game based in the prologue of the Way of Kings (the Szeth part). You are Szeth. You have been instructed to kill King Gavilar on the night of his treaty with your masters, the Parshendi. You will wield Surgebindings and a Shardblade as you fight through the palace corridors to hunt down your prey. A friend and I have figured out how to program some of the Surgebinding powers already, we just need to work on refining them a bit. We also made it so that controls will switch depending on which wall/ceiling you're on, so that you can run around like normal while there (if you don't do this your controls will get really messed up when you go from the floor to the wall, or vice versa). I know how to code first person better, but I'm thinking I'm going to learn how to code a third person game, because it's a lot better for the gravity switching and other shenanigans that happen on screen. Anyways, here's some of the artwork I've been working on for the game! Some of this I've already started modelling. Firestorm (Gavilar's sword) is going to be flipped and copied in photoshop so that it's symmetrical, that's why I only drew half of it here. It's based off of the illustration in Words of Radiance of Shallan's drawings of the Kholin Shardblades. Jezrien's blade is based off of the cover art of Words of Radiance (I think it's straight in the book, but I can't find enough descriptions of it to make it look distinctive. Plus the cover art version just looks really cool. ). The other stuff is based off of a few descriptions in the books + my limited knowledge of medieval era weapons. I want a second opinion on one thing, though. Part of me feels like Alethi bows would be like composite bows, because of the amount of shell/horn material around and the relative scarcity of wood because of Highstorms. Another part of me, however, feels like because of the Alethi soulcasters supplying plenty of wood that they would just use bows similar to European longbows.
  24. - Ding ding! We have a winner!
  25. - Nope and nope.
