  1. Woohoo. Huh. Time to think of a clever hint... Uh... Like Emperor Palpatine, but more red.
  2. Would someone please add me to the White Sand PM group? I just got a response back from Sir Sanderson an hour ago with the attached file! Thank you!
  3. That one Highprince... Sebarial? The one who Shallan goes to.
  4. Shallan going to steal the soulcaster?
  5. Ah OK. Sorry for the mix-up. Huh, I didn't see it before.
  6. On a whim I decided to do a quick Google News search for "Mistborn." - I found a couple reviews and this little gem on a French news site. http://www.elbakin.net/fantasy/news/22011-Brandon-Sanderson-reparle-du-film-Fils-des-Brumes "During a series of questions / answers, the American author has returned to the film adaptation of Mistborn, or Son-of-Mists French. Sanderson reveals that one of his conditions for this film is a cast opening to the public, so anyone can apply for a role. He also explained that it is the "film" section of the company Little Orbit, who produced the Mistborn video game: Birtright, which currently holds the rights to adapt. They keep the game if they finish within 18 months, otherwise these rights will be relisted. Of course, we are still far from even just an estimate release date for this film ..." I ran it through Google Translate, so it's not perfect. Apparently Mistborn: Birthright is coming within about 17 months, or it's not coming at all. I like that casting is open to the public, but I'd prefer having more talented actors performing the principal roles rather than someone off the streets. Any other thoughts from anyone? Was this knowledge previously known and I just missed it?
  7. Kobold... You've... Surpassed... How?! Blasphemer! Seize him! Burn him down! - On topic: Huh. I should watch some of this. seems interesting.
  8. Storing and tapping flexibility. When storing, you break your back trying to bend over. When tapping, you can fit into a tiny suitcase with ease.
  9. OK, my personal opinion is that I want a film/TV adaptation of Stormlight Archive to be successful. I'm prefacing the rest of my post with this because it is the driving force behind my view that a live-action adaptation would be better. I'd also like some of Sanderson's work to be made mega-popular, like Game of Thrones has done for a Song of Ice and Fire. - I like anime. I really do. I'm currently watching Bleach and occasionally watching an episode or two of Legend of Korra. Last Airbender was my favourite TV series for a while. That said, I cannot connect with characters displayed in anime nearly as easily as I can with characters in live-action series. Animated faces cannot display the full range of human emotion a talented actor can achieve, which I feel is necessary in the case of several Stormlight Characters. Kaladin's troubles and depression, or better yet, the look on Szeth's face as he is forced by his oath to kill, just wouldn't be fully captured in a animated format, in my opinion. I also concur with the above opinion's on the majority view on anime. Most people think anime is for children or for laughs; it cannot be serious. Though these people are horribly wrong and really need to expand their horizons, it remains that anime will, for the foreseeable future, never be quite as popular as a well-done live action adaptation. - For a project such as the Stormlight archive, budget is important, whether it is an anime or live action. Sure, an anime would be cheaper, but it would still have several things most anime that I've seen don't have. It would need a large cast of talented voice actors. Stormlight is a BIG series, with so many important and distinct characters. It would also require a huge art department in order to portray all the various locales and creatures of Roshar. And I still come back to my previous points: Anime is not as impactful as live-action, and is not as popular. - Stormlight needs to be popular in order to maintain itself. Though advancements in technology have allowed the impressive landscapes of Roshar to be produced in CG, it would require a large budget comparable to Game of Thrones, which means it would require a similarly large following. This is definitely achievable with the proper network and proper marketing, combined with the rich atmosphere and cinematic nature of Stormlight Archive. The budget necessary to produce a well-made Stormlght Archive in live action is feasible if it garners enough attention. - Lastly, casting. I personally don't care whether or not the characters look exactly like how they're supposed to look in the books. I care more about keeping them close to the same age they're supposed to be and that they are talented enough to play the part; not that they look the part. I'd rather have an actor who is completely whitewash, looks nothing like how Kaladin is supposed to look (but is the right age), but can portray the role and character well. If they find a guy who looks like Kaladin and can perform the character very well, AWESOME. If they find a character who looks exactly like Kaladin, but sucks at acting, or can't portray the character, then I wouldn't enjoy the show, and would honestly probably stop watching it after a certain point. This criteria of mine extends to all the major characters. - Sorry if I annoy anyone with my opinions, but I will stand by them and my reasoning.
  10. The Orb of Aldur is a Splinter of Aldur - Bhelliom is the physical body of a Shard, like Lerasium.
  11. - Huh. That "no innate powers" kinda throws me off. I always assumed they were some level above peak human, though Sanderson may not consider that to be an "innate power."
  12. I personally like the term Ferumancer. - Fae glamours in the Mercy Thompson novels = Lightweaving
  13. HerowannabeAlso, what would happen to a Kandra if you bisected it down the middle with half of its blessing ending up in either half? Brandon SandersonThat would be—like ripping off any other piece of it—that would be very disturbing for the Kandra. But they could reabsorb and come back together. They would not be able to function half and half, that would eventually kill them basically. They can’t like send pieces of themselves off and do things. They can be ripped apart and heal, but if you ripped them in half, that would be killing them. I think that what Outis says is right, judging from this WoB.
  14. Moose Has Hemalurgy been used on another planet besides Scadrial? Brandon Sanderson Yes it has. Brandon did not want to give out any more details about who was getting spiked or if the spiking was successful. Ask and ye shall receive http://theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=947 EDIT: Voidus is one sneaky ninja.
  15. Huh. I'll check it out once I finish the series I'm currently working on.
  16. I've heard good things about the Dresden series, should I read it?
  17. Eh, true. I didn't think Ruin could project his Intent that way unless the person was Spiked. I could be wrong, however. - I still think there must have been shenanigans preventing the advancement of Hemalurgy, we have confirmation that it has been performed elsewhere in the Cosmere already (I think? I recall a WoB saying that).
  18. That's why I said without fully knowing. I doubt Ruin said "Hey, you're going to make a Hemalurgic spike and steal this specific attribute from your daughter to give to the other!" - She might have had some idea of what she was doing, but I doubt her Intent was that specific at that point.
  19. Intent is definitely an important part, but even then, brute forcing everything over 1000 years should have at least given ONE Hemalurgic bind point, it's ridiculous to think otherwise, in my opinion. You could take a Spike and a few thousand Skaa no one would miss, and just try various positions and Intents. Unless Hemalurgy is MUCH more specific then we've been led to believe (Vin's mum created a Hemalurgic Spike and Spiked Vin without fully knowing what she was doing), then there must have been shenanigans going on preventing research.
  20. "Brandon Sanderson That's very interesting, isn't it?" - Sanderson may be my favourite author, but answers like these....
  21. I like this question. - A recent calculation done has shown that projectiles thrown by a Mistborn have the potential to reach Mach 3 fairly easily, is this accurate? If not, how fast can a Mistborn/Coinshot propel an object?
  22. "Child of Honor." - I'll leave now.
  23. I'm glad I Awakened to this thread. - These puns are truly Words of Radiance. - It has been Aviar-y long time since this thread was active. - I may have come here just a Shade too late. - I'm going to stop now.
  24. Not another book, but when I'm 60 hours into a Mount and Blade game and my character is so OP he can kill whole groups of enemies with each swing and can sit in the middle of an enemy army while taking no damage I think, "I have reached Shardbearer status!"
