  1. Some really good points. I actually liked the animated Tarkin. I don't think he was necessary, but I liked it. I thought Darth felt off. Especially the bit where he chokes that guy... Droid was ballin' Everyone Dies was stupid and lazy. Not to mention it felt out of key with the rest of the movie. Don't get me wrong thought K2so and Donny Yen had some good deaths. But for Forest Whitaker and the big guy it just seemed stupid. They essentially just let themselves die. With Jyn and Cassian I just...what...wish they'd tried to survive? Like. The point is to try and take every chance until they run out. The chance to win and, one would expect, the chance to survive. Pretty much agree. Like, it was a good movie, but definitely had its flaws.
  2. We talking about the "the burdens of nine become mine. Why must I bear their madness. Oh, Almighty, release me..." ? From memory, exact wording not guaranteed. It makes sense to me. If the deathrattles are really glances into the Spiritual Realm.
  3. The big issue there...is that it's pretty likely (if not outright stated) that Kelsier was a savant which he got in...two years? If Wax isn't a savant now..well...when would he be? It is possible that being a Resonant Savant might well be different to strictly allomantic savantism.
  4. I would. But I left in my other pants... What a dude, rand. +1. This was what I was referring to.
  5. Thanks for pointing that out Spool. You are quite right. Given he is new to the forum, I didn't want to start throwing out too many terms he might not be particularly familiar with.
  6. Hrmm. The main reason I ask is because I'd be curious about the practicality of that. Like, it'd seem to me, that even if you're storing something absurd like..say...half your body heat it really wouldn't make that much difference to a fire. Like hundreds of degrees past your tolerance is still hundreds of degrees. Likewise given the convection of flames and variability of fuels (especially uncontrolled blazes in a residential or industrial setting) you'd have to be able to adapt very quickly to a change in temperature. Like imagine you walk into a burning building. How do you know, even roughly, how much heat to start storing? I guess one of the biggest issues is that we haven't seen a firesoul PoV. So they mave have more of a ... instictive grasp of their body heat. I guess, could a firesoul reach into a flame and pull out an ember? I had previously assumed not. Perhaps. I was wrong.
  7. Hey hey Spool. What's the source for this?
  8. I don't think it snows much on Roshar, barring select places. I'd say this is rather unlikely. Not as we know it though max, I think we have a WoB that season are more...loose concepts on Roshar as opposed to what other Shardworlds season would be like.
  9. Not really. We don't know what their Resonance is (if you're new to the forums, Resonance is the 'extra perks' that Radiant's get in addition to their powers. Things like Shallan's memory is a Resonance, and it's likely that Kaladin's skill with the spear and maybe Dalinar's skill with Plate are both Resonance as well.) We do know their surges, as noted above, but have seen neither of them in action. Like most other Radiants, they can get Plate and Blade, and can draw stormlight so they get the associated benefits too. ...But, well, that's about it.
  10. Hi Randuir. As Spool said, it is from WoB. A lot of stuff here on the shard is. If you want to know more the Rashek/Lord Ruler Coppermind wiki has some links you might find useful.
  11. Hmmm. Yeah I've referenced them before. Unfortunately they were nothing special. Well as a reminder, they were part of his onetime plan to give up the Final Empire. That would be hard if they were pre ascension.
  12. Wow. This is good. Fortunately I've now done a year of uni chem so I got it. And I didn't even realise ettmetal was harmonium. Silly Savvy.
  13. Makes sense to me. Tragic that Nale feared a desolation and fought the proto Radiants, whilst ignoring the Parshendi who really could form a bridge. Although I'd suspect the bridge, in this case, is the Everstorm itself as it seems to carry (generate?) Hatespren.
  14. You see, I don't think this criticism is particularly well considered. Not as a jab, by the way. So Vorin religion and Vorin cultural practices need to be separated. Things like the safehand and male and female roles aren't so much Vorin in religious origin, but come from the essay Arts and Majesty, which so far as I know is not the Vorin religious text (the Arguments, I believe, is). So there's a lot of behaviors that Vorin peoples engage in, but aren't necessarily a part of their religion. Further, one's understanding and practice of Vorinism seems more a function of one's Devotary rather than the larger Vorin reglion itself. On the matter of males and females. It is made clear that when Dalinar (or Sadeas, or another Highprince) employs an officer, he's really often employing a husband-wife team. Even a soldier will often be the husband of a scribe or camp attendant, as we see in the aftermath of the Tower. So, we have a man to labour, command and fight, a woman to read, scribe and art. As we also saw from Kaladin's PoV, this can really be weighted to the extent where the 'officer' side of that is really just to do as the woman says. So, essentially, a woman can't hold the rank...but a man can't do all that the role entails without a woman. I'm not sure how it'd work if you had, say, a woman being the only heir of a Third Dahn. I imagine a woman can hold the rank, but given that the Alethi are only recently unified, and Jah Keved isn't much better, a lot of people would view the Highprinces as largely military positions. This said, it actually seems to me to be a neat way to make a couple (or family unit) dependent on one another. There's likely a lot of jobs where a man holds the position but a woman is necessary, it is in the interests of the woman to boost the man up (greater status) and in the interests of the man to keep his woman happy (greater efficiency). It's also worth noting that a lot of Alethi would probably have sisters or mothers who could scribe for them if they weren't married. So for a man to be really incompetent, he'd have to have no wife, no daughter no sister and no mother. As a really final note, I think Glyphs are a lot more complex and likely are in the process of turning into a language on their own, like the Stormwardens and Amaram use them. So there's probably an extent to which they can be used to convey orders and meaning.
  15. I'd noted the Lifespren thing as well. But it probably should be noted that we also see Lift attract Windspren. I think there may be two minor spren for every KR. But that's womething that requires more research. This said, I actually like the Rotspren for Releasers as much as Flamespren.
  16. Well as for 1. I get the impression the real danger is the Voidbringers not necessarily the storm itself. Plus part of it seemed to be to showcase how resilient the people on Roshar are. All that aside, this might just have been the best place to survive the Everstorm. My understanding is most places have only 1 directional windshelters
  17. Wow. I am pretty happy about this. I mean, I don't like Lift, but I can bear with her. There was a lot of new info here, I really liked seeing an Aimian. I don't really get how he could have killed two Radiants though. I called the Skybreaker thing a long time ago, and it only further leads me to believe Helaran was a Radiant. But...yeah. It was interesting to discover more about the Heralds and that Ishi is likely a traitor. I liked seeing Szeth again too. I enjoyed seeing and learning a bit more about the Everstorm as well, but I am a little annoyed that the people conveniently decided to release Parshmen just as a storm that would transform them was coming. I mean, why not just kill them? Failing that, why not chuck them in a bunker? Overall I was happy about it, and the worldbuilding was tight.
  18. Pretty much yeah. But "badass" kinda seems the Stoneward thing, from the "I will stand" oath to Taln being the "do the impossible even if it kills me" guy. Storms, I think Taravangian even notes in the epigraph that it's amazing that Roshar has had a reprive of some four millenia because of him.
  19. It seems pretty straightforward to me. We have Shallash, patron of art, who destroys art. We have Jezrien, patron of regality, who is a beggar. We have Ishi, patron of Bondsmiths, who is a traitor (he is dividing the Heralds and world). It fits in the idea of the Corrupted Heralds more or less becomming their opposite. It is worth noting though that even if Ishi is a traitor, it doesn't necessarily mean he is lying about everything. The Everstorm is a new thing, and so far as I can tell it isn't the same as a Desolation.
  20. So I recently finished my reread of Warbreaker and, more than MB Era 2, it really holds up. I was actually surprised how much I liked it and I think for Sanderson it has the best dialogue. Like, I don't know about the rest of you, but I found that Lightsong was far more witty and amusing than either Hoid or Shallan who it must be said often come across as a little...try hard. Vasher is still one of Sanderson's best males so far as I am concerned and especially given the very little screen time he gets relatively to many others. I really enjoy the perspectives of Vivenna and Siri and they honestly seem like some of the most genuine and absorbing PoV characters. Vin is probably the only one I liked more. One of the things I really like is how smooth of a read it is. Knowing the rules of the magic and who each character is makes a lot of the tricks and references a lot better but it doesn't have places that drag like I found Stormlight does. The big letdown on reread was Denth. Like a lot of Sanderson villains he comes across as a lot more one-note than I remember and his mercenary comments kind of grated. Plus for one of the Five Scholars his showing is really quite unimpressive. One thing I like about it was the Awakening system, and I forgot how cool it was to see Vasher use it. Like using the single rope to strength a leg and hop down the palace and how it can somehow be used to alter the mindset of a person. I actually didn't realise how little we as readers know of awakening, and it definitely seems the magic system most open to advancement at the moment. Colour me impressed all over again.
  21. I'm going with coincidence. Jasnah demonstrates a pretty clear bond before Gavilar dies, Shallan seemed to as well. We can't know with Kaladin...but there are signs... and we don't know with Lift. I suspect it is more than death and abuse, among other things, damage the spiritweb and so allow the bond to form and -maybe- advance.
  22. Hmmm. This is what makes me think the torture is somehow important. Wait. Wait. A thought occurs to me. We I actually didn't mean to spoiler all that. Just the Mistborn stuff.
  23. No need to apologise, I've read SH As to the rest...why thank you.
  24. Hold things. ...I'm not a terribly good awakener.
