For all we know, he was in a name generation bind and picked an innocuous word to rearrange until it sounded like a Scadrian name.(something I actually hadn't done back when i tried writing) Edit: Unless it's the name of a Shard or the person is specifically named after something, there isn't much to read into in a name.

Here's the original person who thought about it the same way(who I forgot when I brought it up in the thread you mentioned Calderis) And here's the thread you were talking about Calderis:

Application of Fabrial-Tech in a more modern era.
The One Who Connects replied to Calderis's topic in Stormlight Archive
As additional questions, I wonder what effect that perfect cut/aluminum coating preventing leakage would have on the tech itself. There are logical assumptions to be made that could raise issues later on. For instance, does Stormlight enter the gem through the same passageways that it leaves it? This could mean that a better cut Fabrial fills slower and/or gets emptied slower when used. If so, a gem that holds it permanently couldn't be filled in the first place. May be semi-disproved by Chasmfiends. If so, a gem holding permanently can't be emptied via the Fabrial. No evidence for/against, just a thought. All of these could be bypassed by having an aluminum cover, since you could remove the lid for use/refilling, but the question stands -
Question about being able to use multiple magic systems
The One Who Connects replied to Paladin Brewer's question in Cosmere Q&A
I swear I remember reading an entry that implied his ability to take in Stormlight had to do with the "gap" in his Spiritweb that Breath would occupy, but for the life of me, I can't find it. I'll edit it in if I find it later -
True, but we know Inquisitors had spikes granting F-Gold, and we know that a soul is viable for Hemalurgic theft from conception onward. That's a cleanup policy that enhances his regime. If you want to be even more morbid, he could turn Feruchemist children into Koloss. If he had a twinborn child with F-Gold, make them an Inquisitor. Hell, he could even have known how to spike out powers without killing the host. Say he spikes in a human attribute to replace that gap in the soul out of remorse or a desire to experiment. He could also spike out their F-Gold and spike it back into them so it's harder to inherit. There are many solutions that could end up with a living descendant that may or may not have access to Feruchemy.

yay, I remembered most everything correctly Didn't know the book was as old as the Recreance though, neat fact.

Question about being able to use multiple magic systems
The One Who Connects replied to Paladin Brewer's question in Cosmere Q&A
What FiveLate is technically saying is not the same as what you are saying. Metal is metal is metal, and not magical, so naturally mined metal from anywhere is no different, and not really "on/in" a different shard, while Stormlight has been co-opted by Honor. If you meant different planet, then that's where the misunderstanding comes from. edit, ninja'd by seconds.. -
He's got the Yolish Variant. Khriss brings it up in the WoR Ars Arcanum.

Application of Fabrial-Tech in a more modern era.
The One Who Connects replied to Calderis's topic in Stormlight Archive
As an.. abstract example, when you lift things, you are essentially making the item weigh less from the perspective of the ground below it. Quarter lashing a table, half it's weight is negated, do it to a building.. Less weight, less associated stress, less high durability materials needed to resist that stress. (Kinda the direction I think you were going with this) Someone posted recently equating the "press handprint into table and make it stick" with the ability to make most materials putty in your hands. Not a canon description, but... I'm curious what that smaller area(table minus the handprint) would do to the mass/density, because if you could keep the same material strength and durability, then you could compress a wall to a fraction of the original thickness while keeping the same support rating for the building. You could turn a 3 meter thick slab of glass into a thin window that could stand up to a Highstorm, etc.. all while increasing the usable square footage They could Soulcast refuse into a liquid essence like water, let that water fill a mold, and then Soulcast it into something else like stone or steel for building, yes? I just feel like carving wood to be cast into metal(like for railings) will become inefficient when you potentially need to mass produce items of the same size and shape. I somewhat disagree. A less populous area might not have a local Stormlight Hospital, and knowing about disease when modern science explores the human body could lead to medicinal cures for diseases. Contrary to popular medical belief on Earth, Roshar will probably realize that curing disease is a good idea. -

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
The One Who Connects replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
So I'm back after 5 days, but these questions took be about 5 minutes. They are all related to Hemalurgy, which seems to be a running theme with me... Anyway, it's one question with about 7 "if so" follow-ups. General Hemalurgy: Can you "recharge" a Hemalurgic Spike by stabbing it through another Misting of the same type? If so, can you change the spike power by stabbing it through a Misting of a different type? Would this overwrite the prior power, or become a spike of mixed powers? Would the spike still function in the original bind point if the power changes? If so, is there a limit to how many times you can recharge a spike in this manner? (exponential/multiplicative decay or something) If so, can you make the spike even more powerful by recharging multiple times in quick succession, and could you reach TLR levels doing this? What effects would this multi-soul steal per spike have on the user's spiritweb and/or psyche? To any of the above: If not, why not? -

We have more than you'd think. It's the reason I didn't respond to what they said with "maybe M names are just common," I only know this because all of them are involved in some sort of mercantile occupation, which led to me asking if Thaylenah was a mercantile nation in the ultimate list.. Captain Tozbek, his wife Ashlv, and crewmenbers Yalb & Benzk, Barmest the bookseller, Vstim & Rysn the merchants, and Tvlakv the slaver. Mrall and Mraize are special cases in the job industry it seems 2 B's, 2 M's, 2 T's, an A, an R, and a Y seems to fit the reasonable spread of names where we can't really judge anything from it. So in that, we agree

Oh you've done it now, time for even more reaching. Roshar has 16's and 10's. Honor + Odium is 10 Letters. Cultivation + Honor = 16 letters. Cultivation + Odium is also 16 letters. Honor + Odium + Cultivation is 21 letters. (2+1=3) 2 five letter Shards and 1 eleven letter Shard = 3 Shards Speaking of 3's, (3!/3)^3 = 8, the number of letters in Autonomy, which I reached using only 1 number And there's 1 Shard on Nalthis: Endowment, which has 9 letters, one for each Shard we know the Intent of (R&P, H&C, D&D, Au&Am, E) I should stop, preferably before I reach the point where I can even confuse Monokuma.

When Pattern talked about the Recreance, he included the Stormfather as a Spren that suffered a broken bond. We've speculated that this is why he flat-out refused to be a Shardblade, and we've also considered the possibility that he only "survived" the Recreance because Honor's cognitive shadow merged with him. Having been a witness of the Recreance, both as whatever survived of the original Stormfather and as Tanavast, I think he's earned the right to be a little cynical/reluctant about trying again.

There's this in-world book (Arts and Majesty, i think..) which was used to shape what later became the Masculine and Feminine Arts. It's also the source of the men's only for Shardblades, because feminine activities are ones that can be done with one hand(Safehand), while men use both. Also, men don't rule as absolutely as you think(just ninja'd by Calderis about that)

How to Hide an Honourblade
The One Who Connects replied to ScarletSabre's topic in Stormlight Archive
So, to toot my own horn from the last time this was discussed, there's always my testament to Brandon's writing quality that Lopen will get it and it'll make perfect sense to us. Other artifacts I remember from last time: The Navani idea is valid because in-world people wouldn't suspect her to have it Kaladin dual wielding, or Honorblade with Syl-Shield Something about Nalan, I believe... In all seriousness, Dalinar keeping it for use as a sword and not for the surges it grants is always possible. -
Shardblades and eye color
The One Who Connects replied to Necessary Eagle's topic in Stormlight Archive
On the subject of how alien Rosharan eyes are from ones on Earth, I have seen a large number of people with eyes like this, where the iris is almost indistinguishable from the pupil, sometimes even when in close quarters. It was practically the most common eye "color" during all of my high school years -
Well, we know that gemhearts are an attempt to make things that hold Stormlight indefinitely, so... perhaps you are on the right track with this logic.
