You should really put that in a proper spoiler tag. You are also partially wrong here, so Mistborn Spoilers Ah, more disagreement. We have it more or less confirmed by Taravangian and Brandon that the Thrill is tied to Nergaoul, one of the Unmade. I don't think the Unmade were ever a force for good, or (assuming they were something else before and got corrupted by Odium, a theory I do not support) that they had the powers they presently have. Also, have this: I think this combined with the fact that KR don't feel the Thrill should preclude the possibility of the Thrill being in any way related to Honor or his Knights. Re-Shephir appears to be sentient, but not fully sapient. There's an important distinction that needs to be made because of that. She was not created, but ordered to sow chaos, to confuse and destroy men. She has the ability to imitate, to learn, but was forced to only use it in a specific way. As any story/movie about AI will tell you, something with the ability to learn and without restrictions on its actions can be unpredictable and dangerous. Given her imprisonment, I think Odium may have set her aside and directed his influence elsewhere. Now she is free of her prison and her master. She is using that ability to learn as she sees fit, albeit colored heavily by that murderous past. I don't think she has changed as a result of a Shard's influence, but from a lack of Shardic influence. I'd consider this to be closer to the real Re-Shephir, without Odium's direct control guiding her actions. Also bear in mind that she was trapped for up to two millennia. Confinement for that long a period will change anyone and anything. This is amusing to me. This line is the premise(or point) behind the theory, even if the theory itself goes in a little different direction. I agree with this line, while disagreeing with most every piece of evidence in the theory.

Indeed he did. Thank you for reminding me of that. It's been too long since I reread to look for smaller details You would be correct. I mainly brought him up as another example of males who can read/write. Taking a glance at the wiki pages for various works of literature wasn't too helpful. Does anyone know if a book dictated by a male would have that male listed as the author? I ask this because if works dictated by a male have that male listed as the "author," then a book written by a male would not actually stand out unless the author points it out himself(for whatever reason). [light-bulb moment] The "women who read this" tidbit could be a clue about the intended(or expected) audience of the book. In this case: the Vorin crowd, where women read and men don't. We can contextually use the women line to imply it's being written in a Vorin nation or for a Vorin readerbase, but there aren't many extra secrets to glean beyond that. The following line is a segue into the next train of thought, so the only context we can gain is from the preceding lines. I'm certain that some people will feel threatened by this record. It's a record of something, sometime, someplace or someone. A record of something is generally non-fiction. The existence of this record will threaten some people, and the author knows this. Whatever the subject of this record, it's a big deal to some people. Some few may feel liberated. The existence or content of the record might let some people feel liberated. Liberate is generally used to mean freeing from something, be it prison, slavery, or social roles/pressures. Given the usage of "few" and "may," I have my doubts that this book will contain something to upturn society as they know it. It might be a big deal, but I don't think we have another Arts and Majesty on our hands. Most will simply feel that it should not exist. The author believes that the majority of people will consider the record as either pointless, unnecessary, or wrong. With the heretic line later on, that "wrong" may be replaced with sacrilegious. Something that the masses think doesn't merit being recorded, isn't worth the time spent recording, or shouldn't be kept on record. The first two would imply the subject of the record is something trivial or irrelevant. The third implies the subject is something people want to forget about entirely, or something people want to remain ignorant about. Personally, I'd put my money on option three. I needed to write it anyway. Even in the face of majority opinion being between meh to unhappy about the record, the author felt that it had to be written. "Needed to" should preclude the possibility that the author is writing it to be stubborn, but I'm bringing it up to be thorough. I know that many women who read this will see it only as further proof that I am the godless heretic everyone claims. The author does not see themself as a heretic, but acknowledges that most everyone else(that he knows, in his nation, in the world? lacking in scope) sees them as one. The author feels that many of the women who read the book will consider it as proof of heresy. The usage of women specifically could mean one of three things: The author expects/intends the book to be read in Vorin nations, where (almost) exclusively women can read. Something in the content of the book will affect women specifically, but not bother male readers. Male doing a Female-only activity, Female doing a Male-only activity? Either within the content or by creating the record itself. The usage of "many" is interesting. The usage of most in a prior sentence to imply majority but not here implies that a good number of women will see the book or its content as heretical, but not the majority. Whether this book or its contents are heretical will be a subject of debate, not something widely agreed upon. All in all, I think we are looking too deeply into specific wording. The line hardly even stands out when viewed in the full preface.

Oh yea that. Never actually read that little flashback collection. There might have been some discussions about it, but last year would be before the spoiler board, so they'd be in the SA forum. Does that mean it's information that technically doesn't have to be locked inside the spoiler board, or am I subconsciously pulling loopholes?

Technically, I don't believe that is from a WoB, but I don't know for sure whether the Oathbringer Chapter that relates to was read at a signing or not, so until then, I'd say that's a spoiler. I've mentioned something relating to that spoiler as early as late April of this year, which predates every single thread in the Oathbringer Spoiler Board but one. I really don't know where we learned anything relating to that back then.

The instructions Szeth is given by Taravangian are in the "warrior's script of his homeland." Szeth can read, and most likely write in that script. Szeth does not appear to be from a culture where books are a feminine art. He also isn't an anomaly, given warrior's script. Taravangian can both read and write in Alethi Women's Script, and possibly write in Shin warrior's script too. Shin is certainly an anomaly, and Women's Script was self taught(I believe). Amaram can write in Stormwarden Script, but that's actually cheating. I don't see why "anomaly" came up, but I might be misremembering the epigraphs. Why is the anomaly argument relevant?

Cultivation invests through Light
The One Who Connects replied to Fifth of Daybreak's topic in Stormlight Archive
This is literally the first and only time I've ever heard this, so I'll fire shots at "general consensus." I also don't see it, but I'm not putting much stock in a warm light appearing when opening exterior doors as anything beyond well.. going outside into the sunlight. I don't get the vibe of something suspicious/mysterious the way it feels like you do. Why do you think it's from Cultivation? I think it is a fair conjecture to assume that the reason the damage recedes in the sunlight is because of Cultivation's influence Sunlight is quite a useful tool in helping with physical/mental/emotional health in the real world too you know... Additionally, he sees the souls of his victims in the shadows. More sunlight, less shadows, less paranoia. That's a facet of the physical world itself, which is not the same as the sunlight magically "making the damage recede" as you imply.- 36 replies

Where are the Honorblades?
The One Who Connects replied to Ralph Elorim's topic in Stormlight Archive
That's essentially what I'm saying, just with different details. We think that the Heralds were in modern day Shinovar during Aharietiam, so the Circle of Blades is there. When the Shin people were rebuilding after the Desolation, the blades were found, the Shamanate made a few decisions(some of them bad ones), and the rest, as they say, is history.- 22 replies

Odium can do something similar to the Parshendi, as his Spren have this "hole" in them that he can access, in the same vein that Hemalurgic Spikes leave cracks in the soul that Ruin seeps into. It's still a hole in the soul that the Shard is sneaking into, so I wouldn't think it unreasonable that they could access each of those, but I don't think we know for sure yet.

If it was in this thread, there was a minor reference of size. Latitude/Longitude lines are rather useful when combined with the size of the planet. I'm no expert, but Longitude/Latitude Lines are fractions of 360°, and we can get the circumference of the planet from the Radius. Part One: Longitude This would be the width of the Continental Roshar were it at the equator, but since the bulk of the continent is between 20°S and 60°S latitude, it should be smaller. I could include the additional width of Aimia into it and say the entire landmass has that width, but that'd be unprofessional. Part Two: Latitude If I wanted to be really unprofessional, I could use the north/south distances and the longitude segment distances to make "blocks" for calculating total land area, but I know better than to do that. Actually... the NHC has a Lat/Long Distance Calculator. If I feed it Lat/Long points for Roshar, and multiply the results by .9, I could potentially make this work. Oh jeez, what's the formula for the area of a trapezoid? Part 3: Land Area However, in the spirit of unprofessionalism and pedantic-ness, Thaylenah appears to be roughly the same size as the Tarat Sea, and the Reshi Isles could be condensed into the gaps between Iri/Rira, the land above Marabethia & below 20°S, and turning Aimia an actual square As such, the "total" land area should be roughly as stated above, at 43,273,000 square kilometers. Disclaimer: I'm not actually an expert on this subject, and I used a bootstrap method to calculate distances via GPS coordinates. If my math is incorrect at any point, feel free to point it out

Wit recognizing Shardblade vs Honorblade

You see what I mean by "Is this religious irony, or have the sharders gone too far?" This is the level of making assumptions using facts that aren't necessarily there that we are willing to go to in search of answers. That said, from where we stand now, it does appear that Odium turned Heaven into He||. Which is.. entertaining to think about.

As I understand it Damnation and the Tranquiline Halls are separate places to the Vorin church, the "Voidbringers" just control both now. Yea, the Church(or at least, their teachings) call Damnation and the Tranquiline Halls separate places. The whole "they are both Braize" thing comes from us. Voidbringers pushed Mankind out of the Halls. Voidbringers reside in "Heaven" now. (Odiumspren run rampant on Braize) [Religious Teaching] The Heralds return to the Halls to fight the Voidbringers. Heralds go to "Heaven" to fight. (Braize = Heaven) [Fact] Heralds go to be tortured in Braize. Mankind calls Braize Damnation. Heralds go to "He||" to suffer. (Braize = Hell) Heaven = Braize = He||. Ergo, Heaven = He||. Is this Religious Irony, or have the Sharders gone Too Far?

Humans pre vs post- Shattering? [Spoilers: AU]

I was rather certain that it was the opposite, but the only WoB I can find implies, but does not confirm. -

Where are the Honorblades?
The One Who Connects replied to Ralph Elorim's topic in Stormlight Archive
The Heralds left the Honorblades in the ground somewhere. The Shin live somewhere. The most common theory(which may/not have been started by me) is that modern day Shinovar is built around where the Circle of Blades(term that was coined by me) was.- 22 replies

The Recreance: Why did it happen?
The One Who Connects replied to TheDoomsday's topic in Stormlight Archive
Where do you draw the line on "centuries" not being a good indicator word? Is 2,200 years too much? Spoilered for size -
I don't really see the supposition with Taln and the Oathpact as being helpful to Odium. I really don't see it, which almost bothers me. Would you mind laying it out for me? I believe it was The One Who Connects who posited roughly 350 to 400 years between Desolations, with there having been 9 or 10. Indeed it was.

I don't have any WoB's this time, so have my two cents. "phenomenon" is a strange enough quality to be able to detect, but even without it, I don't think it's a stretch to assume that a properly tuned Alerter could detect usage of magic. At present, we don't know of one. However, the level of complexity and scope of options that AonDor presents means that it is entirely possible for there to be an Aon/Aon Strong that can detect/shield the usage of magic. I don't think so. The Heightenings are so organized because they are at the point where the powers are at their strongest. You don't get any extra resistance to aging or sickness past the 5th Height, so it stands to reason that your ability to detect someone's Biochromatic Aura wont get any stronger as you go beyond the 1st Height.

Please remember that Brandon has not yet clarified whether or not Aslydin is the Nurse in Warbreaker. She might be, but to quote Oversleep: that the Warbreaker nurse is someone who we have yet to meet. It could be Aslydin but it's far from confirmed. We jump at conclusions too often.

Dragons or Shodel. Not really. It's generally a time/effort thing, as most people who've pulled from Arcanum have mentioned it(under various names, such as WoBinator 4000). There's also the google doc transcripts floating around the web, such as this one. Or general laziness. The only one who doesn't usually source is Extesian, but that's because he's used to pulling up like 5-10 entries on a subject at once, so sourcing would take forever. His is more habit than anything secretive.

Stormlight Healing and Suspension of Disbelief
The One Who Connects replied to Stormrunner1730's topic in Stormlight Archive
It's not allegedly, it's fact. And Brandon's answer makes me think it was always that way. It's because dying breaks the bond with your Spren, preventing you from being able to access the Stormlight. The ability to use Feruchemy is hard-coded into your spiritweb, and doesn't go away unless it gets spiked out. -
One can be bonded to multiple Shardblades. You could not summon them at the same time though. I imagine that since there is a "summoning gesture" that Adolin, Kaladin and others have pointed out, the blade would be summoned in the hand you used for the summoning gesture. Since you have to summon each blade separately, I don't think there'd be any issue with summoning the blades into separate hands. If they can't change what hand the blade forms in, they can just as easily manually swap the first blade into their other hand and then summon the second one.
