I should note that I have further clarified the issue with Hreo. He has ruled that activity in docs does not constitute 'activity'. However, responding to the game PM from the GM does. So all our seemingly inactive people have either been in a PM conversation with a Seon-holder or responded to Hreo's PM (and not even necessarily to send in orders.) The latter is less detectable unless you happen to be one of the poor slontzes hovering on the community page and checking for PM activity I do not recommend this (see: life.) I'd echo the call for the Korathi pendant person to step forward, although I had hoped to see if they would do it of their own accord without being asked to. Unfortunately, that window has now closed with the first call. Whoever you are, you don't have a pendant anymore anyway, you might very well get protection, and more importantly, knowing who Team Evil targeted could be very helpful in looking at the victimology and working from there

Most of my recent ones have been of failing my final year classes or my thesis turning out really bad. Or getting killed by darkspawn, zombies, all sorts of things. Apparently, I don't just die a lot in Sanderson Elimination, Assassin's Creed or Skyrim--I die a lot in my dreams too I had this one which was a weird mashup of the Dresden Files and Stand Still Stay Silent (excellent webcomic, IMO.) I just remember there were people going into a building and that building was shrouded in darkness and it was eating people. So in the dream, the natural thing to do was, to pick up a Sword of the Cross and enter the building and to do battle with the things in there. (Add no sense of self-preservation or common sense to the list.) I do remember standard horror stuff: walls bleeding, faces of people I knew buried in the walls somehow. And the enemy, whatever it was, was lurking in the darkness. I drew that sword and fought, but wasn't really fast enough to cut it, even though it hated that Sword. It was this huge mass of rotting pus-ridden flesh and misshapen teeth and for some reason, I knew it'd once been a person. And I woke up just as it tore out my throat. >>

The Stick (Obligatory guess.) Personally, I'd like to see a bit following Adolin's childhood, but I get the feeling that Adolin cannot really count as a side character. So I'd be happy enough with something following Rock or Teft, even Ym

Hi guys! I've been having intermittent difficulties accessing particular pages on 17S. These don't always stay consistent: for instance, I had been having difficulty with accessing page 19 of the 'LG12' thread in Sanderson Elimination, but was eventually able to access it. I'm not sure if I'm the only one experiencing such difficulties, but I just thought I'd make a note of it, anyway I say 'intermittent' because sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't. 1. pg. 21-23 of the LG12 thread. 2. Kipper's page about mentioning users here. 3. When attempting to post in the ongoing Sanderson Elimination game thread here. Edit: 4. When attempting to create this very thread. 5. Beowulf Boast p. 13. The page claims this is a driver/database error, but I've included a screenshot of what it looks like: Apologies for the counterintuitive way of sharing the screenshot. I've had difficulty uploading files for a while as my browser hangs, but that isn't the issue here. Thank you for your time Edit: This is using my computer, and my browser is Internet Explorer version 11. (No one give me grief for this please; I'm on a shared computer and the people I'm sharing it with won't use anything else )

Ouch. To be fair, I suppose this balances out with the extended night cycle we got. Even so, I'm inclined to expedite things a little at the moment. I had originally intended to start out the cycle with a list tracking player activity. Unfortunately, pages 20-23 of the locked thread are down for me, citing a database error. I suspect it's an artefact of the issues lingering from when 17S crashed because it couldn't take knowing the Lord Ruler has had children (I have not yet reported this and am not inclined to, since the database error is irregularly generated by other pages across 17S, though this is about 3 in a sample size of 5. As a result, I figure the admin knows and I don't like to bother tech people when they're busy fixing things with more of the same ) Tldr; while my list is currently a WIP, I'd like to start things off by flagging both Ostrich and Piff for extreme inactivity. I'd also like to clarify with the GMs if it will be publicly made known if any inactives have, as of this cycle, been replaced by pinch-hitters. In a previous clarification, I was informed that it would take a total of two cycles of inactivity for replacement to happen. I have not found a single post from Ostrich and it is Day Three. Has he been replaced, and is that confirmable by the GM? Let's get down to business, people. Tempus fugit, carpe diem, seize the day, gather ye blossoms while ye may, etcetera. - Kaian tried to hold back a yawn as he emerged from the guest room he'd been assigned by the guards. He hadn't slept well, and the night had seemed to drag on for the longest period of time, after the discussions had ended and everyone had gone to bed. To make things worse, he had a most startling dream: in which everything had abruptly gone dark, silenced. He'd cried out to Lord Jaddeth-Who-Slumbered but there was no response, and he, too, had been swallowed by the void. The first vestiges of daylight entering his room had almost been a relief, as he sat bolt-upright and tried to forget about that dream. The ferret was busy nosing at a few containers on the writing desk, searching for food. The snuffed candle swayed as it nudged it slightly. He needed a name for the ferret, Kaian thought, crossing over to the desk. On it was the lists he'd been scribbling, before exhaustion had overtaken him and he'd gotten some rest. He sighed. None of these were going to be helpful now; not in their incomplete state. He smiled slightly. Who was he to think they would be helpful, in any case? He was just an ex-krondet, fled from the monastery. None of those had focused on finding killers on their midst; only the teachings of Holy Jaddeth and discipline and obedience. "Come on," he said, scooping the wriggling ferret into his hands. They wouldn't have allowed me to keep him, back there, he thought, as he left.

I've added some Irish and modern Greek to my earlier proficiencies, but I'm embarrassingly bad at both of them >> By 'embarrassingly bad', I mean that my friend tells me he's embarrassed to know me when we practise Irish with each other. There was this occasion when I confused the statement 'The children eat' and happily exclaimed, "I eat the children!" Needless to say--learning languages. All these things seem to happen (There was this guy in my German class who mispronounced "I work at night" and ended up saying "I work naked" to much laughter.)

Let me put it this way. I think it's fallacious to suggest that absolutely no discussion of the Gyorn means we can't find them. It's fallacious simply because it makes a dangerous conflation. We have other ways of finding the Gyorn--particularly once we get the information from whoever the converts are--than just sitting around and speculating what the Gyorn might do, with absolutely no evidence as to what the Gyorn has actually chosen to do. Consequently, no, I'm not against discussion of the Gyorn's activities--but you genuinely think these are more helpful to us than the Gyorn? Then I'd challenge you to show me how these help us They give the Gyorn an idea of what we think they are up to. But that's about it. Without solid information, it's just hot air and our being gratituous about us having made some sort of solid discovery. So that's my point: don't conflate discussion about what the Gyorn is doing with discussion about what the Gyorn might do. One helps the Village, the other the Gyorn, and I'm for one and against the other. I recognise I should not have done that either with Orlok, and quite honestly, the only reason I can give is having been very exhausted of late and just outright losing my temper in frustration. (So you're not the only one, Mek.) I normally don't do that anymore since the first time I made that blunder in MR4, and would've kept to my own advice otherwise. I think you underestimate most of what the players here are capable of, if you think that this can't substantially help the Gyorn. These are not 'an idea or two'. I've been in contact with one or two people by Seon who have suggested things we need to look out for and by extension, extremely deadly strategies the Gyorn could employ. I am glad that none of these have made appearances in the thread, though I'm none too happy about having been told them in a Seon PM. (Come on people! I could be the Gyorn! You didn't know I'm on Team Village! Seon safety! Practice it!) With regard to Kipper's comment on my having set up the criteria for a useful post all by myself: another problematic slip in reasoning; more rhetorical, I've noticed, and an interesting counterattack. As a lone player, I make my own judgements and ask questions. It is not my task but that of the rest of the Village to decide if those are useful questions. As I neither have a Seon, nor do I believe in dictatorship, I have no other resources than my own cognitive ones to point out that something seems strange to me. I do not expect the Village to immediately accept a claim I've made simply because I'm the one who said it, and will stand by that position and judgementally side-eye anyone who tries to do otherwise. (This holds even if I were a safe role.) And I might very well note I'm not the only one to have been slightly intrigued by the content of that post. (Funny things, Seons. They can carry a lot of information.)

I’m pretty sure some people will go ‘I told you so’ about this one… >> Some mislynch. I’m kind of conflicted about this one because although spencer was Arelish, I’m not particularly fond of the Debtor mechanic. (That might be an understatement.) All the same, what’s done is done. Right now, I’d prefer it if we didn’t entirely go dark at night, since we have 48 hours before the lynching and the bloodshed starts again. So, I’ve been relooking through the thread and coming up with some questions I’d like answered. 1. Jain—you put a vote on Wonko when he had three on him, with no particular/additional reason you would like to see answered. Why? If Wonko had not replied to a third vote, what’s the logic in throwing yet another vote on him somewhat after the 24 hours mark? In answer to my question, you said you were outlining the Gyorn’s potential playstyle and predicting targets. My question stands: why would you do that? Why would you strategise for the Gyorn? 2. Maili. You spoke of throwing a vote on Wonko because of his responsibility for the bandwagon on Fel as well as to ‘tie things up’. Given that we don’t have a general consensus on vote manipulation, why do you persist in seeking a tie? You yourself mentioned earlier that you felt we should not simply let Debtors go gently into that good night. Yet, by aiming for a tie, isn’t that a likely consequence? (I note as well that Twei has a good point about how this effectively either ignores occurrent vote shifts late into the cycle or effectively demands the stifling of further discussion.) 3. Seonid. ‘A priori’? Really? (Just kidding; had to get excited and crack a joke about seeing that, of all things, in a Sanderson Elimination game!) 4. Kipper. If you felt that it was irrelevant to discuss the various convolutions and implications of Orlok’s death, why did you then discuss it—at, I might add—greater length than any reasoning behind voting for Clanky? 5. Honey Badger. Why attempt to push the discussion back to a futile one on Orlok’s death? [same question for Aonar. If you already realise that most of the discussions surrounding the issue involve vague and shoddy guesses, why strip and jump into the muck pit with the rest of us?] I’m not sure what to make of the vote shenanigans. But have a look at this snapshot of the vote tally from 6:54PM yesterday: M’Hael (0): Clanky<1> Karlin (0): dowanx<1> Dowanx (1): Jain<1>, Bort Luckat (0): Kas<1> Wonko (4): Araris, Maili, Kas<2>, Jain Clanky (0): Winter, Kipper Piff (0): Meta<1> spencer (1): dowanx<2>, Kas<3> Alv (1): Aonar Maili (1): Wilson Twei (1): Clanky<2> Jain (1): Meta<2> From 10:23AM onwards yesterday (sorry guys, this is my time, but I’ve linked to the post so you guys can compare with your respective timezones), Wonko leads the lynch with three votes. At 6:54PM, Jain shifts his vote from dowanx and puts a fourth on Wonko. Wonko is effectively headed for the lynch. At 7:30PM, I retract my vote from Wonko and go for spencer instead. But even with 3 votes on him, notice that Wonko is still leading the lynch to spencer’s 2 votes. It’s only at 10:04AM today that Maili retracts his vote on Wonko, places one on Dow, and effectively turns the state of the votes to something like this: Wonko (1): Araris Dowanx (2): Bort, Maili<2> spencer (2): dowanx<2>, Kas<3> The way it looks like to me, it doesn’t make sense for a Prince/Princess to change Ostrich to vote for Wonko unless it was done by someone active during the period where Wonko was leading the lynch or leading the lynch by just a very close margin. Otherwise, it’s essentially pointless. But I think parsimony would at least require that we assume this is the same character who tried shifting a vote onto Mek.

When you put it that way, fair enough. I'm just a bit paranoid about role information being revealed, but you're right that they could analyse it for themselves and draw the same conclusions. I would say it's basically up to you. If you think you have a better target to talk to tonight, you can talk to them. If you don't, try an Elantrian? Come on, man. I'm in a very informationally-poor position here so I'm definitely in no place to advise other than to leave it to your best judgement You have 48 hours this time, so may as well make the best of it, right?

I've been trying to come up with a system to reflect vote order/chronology because you can pick up interesting things from that. Such as Jain stacking what essentially turned out to be a fourth vote on Wonko without substantially adding to what had already come up in the discussion. Granted, I'm guilty of that too since I wanted him to answer why he wanted to reveal vote manipulators in-thread. I later removed my vote because Mek's argument had convinced me.

I don't use strikethroughs to indicate shifted votes. I use numbers to indicate the vote no longer exists. Clearly, I need to work on my nomenclature. I've been trying but cannot for the life of me locate Kipper's or Winter's retractions :S Can anyone point me to them?

The whole point of that initial plan was assuming none of the Seon holders wanted to make a target of themselves. Then by contacting Elantris at night, they could convey information from Elantrians to a trusted contact during the day. This would create one layer of protection between themselves and the Cultists (if they didn't choose unwisely), at the cost of having, as you noted, delayed information. It's always down to trade-offs.

Shucks, yes--I misread what Wilson said as meaning that Phat got into contact with her after he became an Elantrian. Scratch that: if you think you can take the danger, someone needs to talk to Phat since he's been tabled as suspicious. Storm it, can someone give me the state of the votes? (I'm counting too, but.) And this thing about stabbing in the dark? Congratulations, you're normal like the 99% of us Edit: Here. Wyrm's come up with a really great game (no, I swear he's not paying me to say this), but what caught my attention was spencer's post there--for yet another game when he couldn't (at that time) say anything here.

Still tired so very quick post. 1. I'd recommend not contacting Phatt, if Wilson is right that he has a corrupted Seon, meaning he can get into contact with one of us. (The issue of whether Wilson can be trusted is a separate one.) Other than that, I would say I have no strong opinion on which Elantrian to talk to. 2. Hreo's clarification would've changed my stance somewhat, Kipper. I'd been working on the basis of an earlier clarification I'd received from him--Day One, I believe--in which he states that actions came first, including gifting, then deaths, then the actions were carried out. I'm going to assume that this has effectively been annulled and work on the basis of the most recent ruling. However, I still strongly think that even if people with Seons prefer to work through a trusted contact to communicate with the thread, the information must flow. They're in a uniquely advantageous position and we need to capitalise on that. 3. I don't know if I'll shift my vote. I'm going to look through the thread again, but it's around half an hour to close, and spencer doesn't seem in any immediate danger. I'll shift it if I find someone who's elicited a little more of my suspicions. Sorry, Hreo. That joke had to be made Edit: Wonko--really, just spread information. That's the whole point of PMing, IMO, especially in a game with no PMs. It's also a great way of allowing anonymous tip-offs to come about. I just don't think the odds of finding the Priest(s) are great, but that's another of the avenues in which PMing would be useful.

Accepted Neither are the Upanishads really, so I thought I'd add that. For some reason, I knew about the Torah but forgot about it. *sadface*
-
1. The Qu'ran (Islam) 2. The Talmud (Judaism) 3. The Upanishads (Hinduism) 4. The Bible (Christianity) 5. The Bhagavad Gita (Hinduism) 6. 道德经 (Taoism) 7. Guru Granth Sahib (Sikhism) It may be somewhat inappropriate to cite texts of Hinduism as Hinduism is such a complex decentralised religion that you can't really think of it in a highly unitary sense, much less refer to a 'main' Holy Book. It really depends on how you disentangle the religious branches. For this reason, I've chosen to add two more texts, just in case. Without looking it up, name the moons of Pluto.

You'd be surprised. I get pretty OCD about clearing out mispellings and grammatical errors. And am capable of suffering conniptions over a misplaced comma or a missing space. But you're also right. In this case, my brain must've shut off for a few seconds because I was recommending that people tell themselves where their Seon was going to, which made absolutely zero sense. (Note to self: sleep is god. Go worship. If you babble like this in your thesis, you will die.) And Bort has it right. The experienced players all worry each other (well, I guess unless you're Meta or Aonar, in which case you just regard the rest of them with amusement maybe), and being experienced doesn't make us more dangerous or anything. So don't worry about not being able to get a read on us, because frankly, that's a good thing. You shouldn't trust me, for one. I wouldn't trust me. If I'm experienced, then it's not in a way that makes me a better player. It just means I've had more chances than most to screw up in these games, to the point that I've learned to trust no one, no matter how badly I might want to. #Wyrm #MR1 #neverforget

Mods and Almighty GMs, would like to make a quick apology. I realised there was a typo in my post and decided to fix it--and didn't realise that the M'Hael had posted after me :/ Sorry about the mess. Will be more careful about checking in future. -Kas.

I generally dislike being misrepresented. (Five years of university does that to you, I guess. Leaving aside my Eternal E'lir-ness...) Because of this, I will clarify my position. I am not claiming that Elantris is dangerous. To do so is to misrepresent my position and my argument in a crude way. I am claiming that it is dangerous to ignore Elantris. There are several reasons for this: 1. As Alv has pointed out, it is possible for Elantris to harbour converts, who are unable to report to us. 2. We know that Elantris has secrets that will potentially affect gameplay; possibly even the outcome. Consequently, we ignore Elantris at our peril. 3. Badger focuses on the potential cultists and converts hidden in Elantris. But now I half-take back my claim: to focus on the potential cultists and converts in Elantris is to be fundamentally mistaken. The number afflicted by the Shaod is only going to go up, people. What happens when Meta is hit by the Shaod? Or Wilson? Shall we get rid of them too just in case? Even if we don't get rid of them, do you realise that because they cannot speak to the thread, we have suffered the loss of active players who are capable of good analysis? What about if we lose Luckat? Wonko? My points are several. A. If we focus on the potential converts, we are ignoring a bigger problem: right now, being an Elantrian is to cost the Village a valuable resource--your voice. I've said this before, people, and I'll say it again. Especially when you're a regular, your voice and your vote is your power. Discussion is our ally. To suffer Elantrian voices to be cut off from us is the greatest loss. It is the cruelest cut of all. B. I argue that Seons are not just effectively mobilised in PMing. I believe Meta and Claincy said as much in my first game: we have survived before without the ability to PM other players and we will do so again, if we must. Public discussion is far more important. IMO, the greatest power of Seons is to bridge the Elantris-Kae divide and to allow the Elantrians to both be interrogated as well as to contribute to this discussion. I, for one, am severely regretting the loss of Ren's voice here. C. I would suggest that a more effective way to mobilise Seons is to therefore speak to the Elantrians and to have them speak back to us. To relay words from the Elantrians back to the main thread. Sure, we can do the whole 'locate the priest' thing on the side. But this is more important. To those who remember--I was the Tineye in QF6 and the whole power of that role was to be able to broadcast what was going on in one room to everyone in the game. My point is that the same thing applies here. People with Seons, you are better spent relaying information and promulgating it (without copying and pasting) rather than searching behind the scenes here for allies or a second commentary on thread discussion. In fact, precisely because the ability to PM is by a Seon, which counts as an item, we have an advantage here. Normally, a Messenger who passed messages would find themselves an immediate target from Team Evil because their whole point is to shut down channels of communication. But guess what? A Seon is an item. So, just to recap: this post has two points. My first point is to urge communication with Elantris and the relaying of Elantrian knowledge into this thread. Seon-people, you clearly have at least one contact so far. If you are worried about being made a target, you may contact an Elantrian at night and have a contact relay what has been said in the day. But there is another option, and here I come to my more contentious point. (I suspect this will be hated by many.) ...You can pass on the Seon. You can relay the information to the thread and then keep the Seon moving around. A passing action only happens at the end of the Turn. In the meanwhile, your message thread remains open. Furthermore, you may make your recepient known to a trusted contact or to the thread. This prevents the Eliminators from being able to simply execute all the messengers. If the recepient does not relay information and pass on the Seon in their turn, we will know something is fishy. But to add to this: you stop being a target for the Eliminators as you no longer have a Seon (at least for that Turn.) Furthermore, if the Eliminator hits you, the Seon still goes on to the recipient. (I am clarifying with Hreo on this as it is currently unclear if the Seon will go instead to your heir.) If the recipient is hit, the Seon goes back to you. We know there are only two conditions under which Seon loss happens and one of them is when the Shaod hits. But each player has precisely the same odds of being hit by the Shaod. My suggestion is that this allows us to maximise our messaging capacities, especially when Elantris expands, instead of having Seon-holders hoard information that cannot help public discussion right now. I know of at least two Seon-holders who have purportedly contacted Elantrians. None of this information is trickling down to the thread and that is seriously problematic. I don't think this will be a popular suggestion for obvious reasons. But my second point is really just this: it's not your role that matters. Roles are not sacred. What matters is how we use them. Edited for typo.
