So the domesticated sandling (tonk) does graze on sand and water does burn it like acid. Ah ha! Found it! An answer to your question about a sandling's resistance to sandmagery page 21 The sand snapped against the creature's shell of a head and immediately lost its luster, spraying to the sides like a stream of water hitting a stone wall. Kenton stood in confusion, so stunned that the creature's next attack took him in the side, throwing him back against the stone wall and ripping a deep gash in his shoulder. Kenton's sword dropped to the sand, slipping from stunned fingers. The sandling was terken. it was impervious to sand mastery. Kenton cursed again, feeling blood begin to flow from his shoulder. He had, of course, read of terken creatures, but they were supposed to be extremely rare. Only the most ancient and feared of deep sandlings-creatures said to be protected by the Sand Lord himself- had terken shells. How had one come to live here, in the middle of shallow sands and rock formations? Now I didn't post that quote to say it disproves your theory. Just maybe it takes far longer, or far greater quantities, or in amounts that only occur in deep sand. Also, if this theory is true, it seems it is inert in its natural form, and only potent when metabolized into the shell as the rest of its insides are still vulnerable. See quote below: page 23 Its shell and skin were terken, but its insides...... page 375 Terken sandlings were rare. Most of them were as susceptible to sand mastery as humans- more so, because they didn't have blood to wet the sand and make it stale.

Now that I remembered my kindle I can provide the quote! Way of Kings Page 189 A fully grown chasmfiend living here was his to hunt, the wealth at its heart his privilege to claim. Words of Radiance Page 573 "Thats the chrysalis of a yu-nerig" Shallan said. "A greatshell from the seas around Marabethia. The people there feed criminals to them, I'm told." "Ouch" "This might be a false positive, a coincidence. The yu-nerig are an aquatic species. The only time they come onto land is to pupate. Seems tenuous to assume a relationship to the chasmfiends...."

I do agree the higher caliber machine gun bullets would be hard for the mistborn to deflect while avoiding the tank's shells but just two points. First unlike a shardbearer, a mistborn's way of attacking does not involve charging right at the tank. Second, as shown in technology, it would be more likely that Scadrial would end up being the ones employing the tanks, not fighting them.

Khriss's expedition was the first Darksiders to set foot on Dayside in five hundred years (page 28) The Diem owes five hundred thousand (page 321) Chasing Sharezan for five years (page 487) Delious had five years to contemplate his hatred for revenge (page 595) Though unfortunately I was unable to locate a place that seemed to answer that blank has five blank. Would have been more helpful if the original writer wrote it in quote form. Then I could have located it easily with a word search.

Which means hopefully if the first three do well, we will get an additional 6 later on ::::fingers crossed:::::

From a brief google search it seems insects and not crustaceans undergo complete metamorphosis. Crustaceans undergo incomplete metamorphosis which entails remaining mostly the same while gaining additional legs and such. So based on biology, it could make sense. Though that was from a brief google search, so take it with a grain of salt

The dwellers in the Fortress [Secret History spoilers]
Pathfinder replied to Ardjet's topic in Mistborn
Still seems like an awful amount of trouble to make yourself "invulnerable" to harm, when you would still need all the safe guards you would need without it, if not more because of it. It is an interesting theory. Just doesn't feel like it fits right to me. Too much effort for too little return. -
Maybe the overmastery forces the cracks open more, but after stopping, the investiture needs time to fill in the cracks? Or maybe its like a flood basin in a river. The river has a standard height. When a monsoon comes, the water floods raising it far higher and digs the river and shore deeper. When the storm ends, the river drains and is even lower than it once was. Then over time it starts to fill up back to its original height slowly and maybe fills in more where the land was carved away in the flood. So the three days are the river refilling.

That was Shallan examining their lifecycle when discussing seeing a live one with Adolin. She contemplated the possibility, but also stated the mirrored causation was loose and might not hold water.

If I recall correctly it is not an appearance, just a name drop by Ais

Maybe he was referring to an honorblade. I have trouble thinking that he specifically named a duralumin push of being able to push a shardblade, and then saying it cannot be pushed on at all.
-
That and it could be the fact that the sand masters have a rigid hierarchy where they control those below them, and the organization controls or manipulates the city.
-
I believe they just get bigger. If I recall correctly (curses leaving my kindle home so unable to check at this time), but the chasmfiend that attacked Elhokar that Dalinar stopped was an older chasmfiend having already hatched from its chrysalis.

Why Wasn't Szeth a Skybreaker Long Ago?
Pathfinder replied to StormWrath's topic in Stormlight Archive
Just my own opinion on what popped in my head/i felt when I read those quotes of yours. Syl I felt had a problem with Kaladin wishing to mete out punishment, when windrunners are supposed to protect. At least that is how I read it. edit: another way of saying it. Windrunner's protect those who were hurt from being hurt again. Skybreakers punish those that did the hurting so they never hurt anyone again. -
Oooooooooo. Blast! Figures on the day I forget to bring my kindle. I wanted to check to see if it mentions the diet of the domesticated sandlings and if they are also immune to sandmastery. Guess it will have to wait till I get home.

I agree Kenton will probably find a way to do it. I think the amount of water produced when slatrifying has to at least exceed the amount of strain/dehydration it causes on the mastrell for it to be useful.

Although interesting, I noticed Elantris includes about 20 instances of the word fifty in regards to anything from Dilaf's wife passing, to how long the wedding contract was. So either 50 is important to Aona and Skai, or Brandon just really liked the number as he wrote. Same two possibilities could apply here.

Of course this is the day I forget my kindle at home, so a lot of this is from memory and could be wrong but I wrote my answers in bold in your post

I grew up on comic books, but the only reason I stopped was because there would be so many different authors or artists for one character it was hard to keep everything straight and as soon as i found an author and artist I liked, they would get rid of them. In this case it will be a graphic novel, so not individual easy to damage comics, and it will be one author and one artist for its entire run. So I already pre-ordered mine from Amazon

Well moisture has to exist in the air in some content otherwise life would not be possible in the desert at all. example: The Namib Desert beetle survives only on the moisture it extracts from the atmosphere

No worries and I understand where you come from and appreciate your concession. Which is why I want to make clear this response to this post is not to beat a dead horse, but to continue the discussion (not that you would think that, but I always like to try and cover my bases). Thing is although a zinkall and arrow move fast enough to penetrate the human body, the examples I gave were recurve (which make noise and poor for stealth) and compound (which use a levering system that is probably more technologically advanced than they had) bows. Zinkalls are pressurized dart throwers. They aren't meant for great distances. They seem to be more for concealment and of a quick shot and then fight up close type. So they too probably don't have that much speed/stopping power. I think where the power of the sandmages come in and why they are so feared is you are literally within their power everywhere. You are literally standing on their power everyday you step out of your home. Where as a normal person wanting to kill from afar needs to either have a pressurized zinkall primed and have to aim, or a bow user needs to draw and again aim, for a sandmaster he just has to think and it happens. They are natural extensions. Surround a sandmaster with 10 people with swords, and in one thought all 10 will drop dead with holes in their foreheads. So for that world, with that tech level, sandmasters are horrifying. It is when it is compared to another world it becomes problematic. Brandon has said a fully oath spoken windrunner would beat a mistborn one on one in a straight fight, but otherwise the mistborn would assassinate the windrunner. Atium is tricky as it not only allows you to see the foe's actions before they take them, but provides the cognitive ability to sparse through the information, and the reflexes to react to it. Coupled with pewter for the speed would allow a mistborn to avoid them. The counter would be if the room was filled with sand, and theoretically if there was no range on the sandmasters summoning the streams. So for instance summoning streams in the entire room, so there is no where that the mistborn could go to avoid them. However to my recollection that is not how it works. All the streams seem to come from close proximity to the sandmaster though I would need to refer to the book to confirm this. Either way though the example given provided the sand master with a gourd of sand, so that would still not apply in this case.

that seems counter to the WoB that preceded it, which are actually transcribed, instead of paraphrases: Q: Will Allomancy affect Shardblades? A: It cannot affect Shardblades. Well, cannot is a strong term. Things with innate Investiture are much more difficult to affect by any of the magics at all. Which is why it's very hard for Szeth to bind people or lash people whering Shardplate to the ceiling. In the same way Allomancy wouldn't be able to push on it without some help. Duralumin with a strong Push would probably do it.

Lol true, though given that the only reason we in the books at least have ever recognized Hoid is either by his physical description or if he is disguised, by his name and it is said he will have a bigger part in the graphic novel version, I am leaning towards appearance myself.
-
Can you provide the WoB that you referenced that I bolded? Not saying you are wrong or right, but I have not heard of that WoB and am curious. Shardblades are lighter than one would expect of a blade comparable to their size, but are still heavy.

Maybe slatrification is using the investiture in the sand to draw moisture from the air?
