Is putting Adolnasium back together a nightmare or perfection?
Shaggai replied to ~sylphrena~'s topic in Cosmere Discussion
In this context, the word "God" clearly refers to Adonalsium. Specifically, the "divine hatred of God". The Seventeenth Shard is the only confirmed worldhopping organization which we know of, so it's clearly relevant. Edit: Downvotes? Why downvotes? -
Is putting Adolnasium back together a nightmare or perfection?
Shaggai replied to ~sylphrena~'s topic in Cosmere Discussion
Hoid is interfering, far beyond any of the other members of the Seventeenth Shard. His interference has been generally good, so far as we can tell, but it's still extremely dangerous. Re: Jabberwocky: Adonalsium is not whole. Adonalsium was Shattered. The Almighty is one of the resulting Shards. Specifically, the Shard of Honor. -

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

You: Excuse me, sir, do you know any good places to buy metals?Inquisitor: Ah, metals. I love metals! You: I hear atium is the best. Have you ever had any? Inquisitor: Yes, I was in Scadrial once many years ago, before the war. You: Really? Have you ever been to Kredik Shaw? Inquisitor: All the time! That's my favorite dark palace of doom! I used to talk to the High Prelan a lot. You: I am a twisted, Spiritually modified abomination with massive spikes through my eyes, created as an elite enforcer-priest for an immortal God-Emperor. Are you one too? Inquisitor: Yes. (Blatantly stolen from Scott. No, not on this forum. No, you won't be able to find it by Googling.) -
Would this work as a television series?
Shaggai replied to IdlyIdeological's topic in Stormlight Archive
It could work. Look at the LotR movies. -
They created life on Scadrial, yes. Not sure about Scadrial itself.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

There's a stake conference? And it's somehow related to Peter's dad and/or the Sanderson fandom? This does not sound good at all. -
I think he just thought it looked cool. It's far too contrived to have any real-world reason, especially as it's directly from an animation on Wikipedia. It's too arbitrary (a 2D image of a 3d cross-section of a 4d set) to have simple meaning, and it's not arbitrary enough to have subtler meaning. If it was simply a two-dimensional Julia set, or if it was a cross section of a three-dimensional Julia set, or even if the animation wasn't on Wikipedia, I might believe that it has some sort of meaning. But it's arbitrary in all the wrong ways.

It involves iterating a complex function and seeing how quickly it goes away from zero. The Julia set for a function is the border between the ones which "escape" and those which don't. The specific image which Roshar represents is actually a two-dimensional projection of a three-dimensional cross-section of a four-dimensional Julia set. It probably has no in-world significance.

I'm pretty sure the ten fundamental glyphs are just the numbers from 1 to 10. They probably also represent the orders, but from what Weiry said I don't think they're any more complicated than that.

Yeah, to me this suggests that there are some sort of spren in the guards.

Feruchemical iron does make some sort of sense. There's no reason why the mass of any given particle has to be any given value. Feruchemical iron just alters that, and presumably hacks in some sort of physics-preserver on the rest of the interactions to avoid messing with everything else. Time bubbles, on the other hand... There are so many problems waiting to happen with those. Some have been thought of, but there are probably hordes of others lurking in the exotic situations.

I expect Moash to become Odium's champion. Barring full-on Heraldic corruption (which is unlikely, given that Nalan doesn't want Desolation), he's the most likely guy.

Right, I forgot about that. Yeah, there's going to be some opposition. I'm not sure how Kaladin will react, though. He's culturally darkeyes, so the gender norms aren't necessarily quite as ingrained, but on the other hand it's not like darkeyes don't care about gender norms at all.

Shardblade wins. With a lightsaber, you can get disarmed. -
We don't know what their views on homosexuality are, though. A lot of opposition to homosexuality in Western society is a result of religion, whereas we know very little about Vorinism. I mean, we haven't seen any other gay characters, so perhaps it's not really accepted, but we can't be sure. They could have extremely restrictive social norms which don't necessarily exclude homosexuality.

Re: Kaladin and Shallan: I agree. Re: The second bit: I disagree somewhat with your phrasing, and I'm unclear about how conservative the Alethi really are, but from what I can tell you're probably objectively wrong. One of the members of Bridge Four (can't remember his name right now) is apparently going to get a boyfriend. That seems like evidence that no, the Alethi aren't as conservative as you think on that sort of thing. Oh, they're conservative on other things, sure, but not necessarily conservative (well, Western-culture-on Earth conservative, that is) on homosexuality.

I try. Although there aren't really that many opportunities to use it.
