Your Guide to Getting Into Infinity Blade
traceria replied to FeatherWriter's topic in Other Stories
Now I feel much better equipped to read the stories. Thanks! I'm a weird gamer (I use that term loosely). I can handle some games that require reflexes, but not many. I managed to make it through both Portals but did terrible if jumping was involved and had to have my husband beat the end of Portal 2 because I stink at quick and accurate reactions. I also can't play platform games. In college, my roommate brought in her Nintendo (whichever one was out then) and would play one of the Mario Bros. games. I'd sometimes play with her as Luigi, but basically, I would die A LOT and she would get enough extra lives to drag me along with her. All that to say, I won't ever be able to play IB or it's sequels, but at least I can read the novellas now with some context! Thank you! -
Ah, so I'm not the only one who was like, "MORGAN FREEMAN!!!" As to Ivy, I could see Elizabeth Mitchell pulling off the bun. Though I'm not dead set on the idea of her, she could work.

I used to have a Rooney EP somewhere.... Currently, the Kaiser Chiefs - "One More Last Song" - are playing on my ipod, but that could change soon since it's on random. (Just changed to The Decemberists - "July July!" - which is rather fitting given the date!) Gamma Fiend, I am going to have to check that link out later (work computer blocks youtube). I've been on a Hepcat kick lately (speaking of ska).

Okay, only posting to say that when I saw this thread topic, my first thought was "How would you date [go on date(s)] with the Recreance?" I have clearly just been reading through the Pick-Up Lines thread over in general Brandon discussion... XD

Telepathy and its implications for parenting
traceria replied to Two McMillion's topic in General Discussion
1. Only in dire circumstances would I use it or when invited to do so. I'd want to give them some moral guidelines in word and in my own deeds. 2. Send them to Professor Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Well, if it were in that universe, I would. I think it would be more beneficial to instill a good moral code at a young age. Young children first learn this by being told what is right and wrong, and as they mature, they'd start to see the why behind it. Mostly, they'd need to be taught what circumstances would allow involvement and which would be disrespectful and intrusive. Ex: It would be okay to use your powers if you see one person about to stab another. It would be okay to stop that person from completing their harmful deed, but don't go dealing out punishment upon the would-be stabber yourself. -
It's nice to find some fellow dreamers! My mom is one of the only other people I know of who has really vivid dreams that she remembers on a regular basis. Meanwhile my husband, dad, brother and so on all find it really odd and rather amazing that we can recall so much. I'm pretty sure my mom would be capable of lucid dreaming without too much effort. Knowing some of what she's told me, I can recall hints of it in how she's told me about her dreams in the past. Thanks for answering the question about scales/levels, Zenith. If anyone has a cool lucid Cosmere dream, definitely share!
-
Maybe I'm just a natural dreamer, yet not a serious (hardworking) one... I definitely have lucid dreams every now and then, but usually I only choose to control things in the predetermined setting, not change that setting. Hmm...wonder if next time I have one I'll think about it and decide to make really sweeping changes! When I was younger, I had even wackier dreams. Is there a gradient/scale to lucid dreaming? Sometimes I would know I was dreaming, but just watch and go along with the ride anyway because it was so strange, and other times I'd actually make real choices. Also, anyone have a waking dream? Sometimes I'll fall asleep while napping on the sofa, and the next thing I'll swear people are walking nearby or talking in the other room, and they're people not even in my house (like people from my past), who live miles and miles away. When I really wake up, I realize that I was dreaming about napping on the sofa and these people walking/talking nearby but that it was just a dream that felt like real life. I've heard about sleep paralysis, which usually really freaks people out, but I've never been scared during those episodes.

If stormlight archive was the wheel of time

Ha ha! So, Nynaeve is not unlike a small child trying to sneakily do something wrong. No matter how sneaky he/she tries to be, the adults totally know what's going on. XD -

If SA were the WoT, Adolin and Shallan would get married if only so they could collaborate for the rest of their lives on an exhaustive encyclopedia on the Fashion of Roshar. Shallan could do illustrations of all the intricate embroidery on all the clothing while Adolin provides commentary. Then they could warp over to the WoT universe, publish and sell the encylopedia only to have Nynaeve give her opinions on how proper/improper all the ensembles are that were included in the collection, make sweeping comments about the use of wool and then give in and agree begrudgingly that Adolin has good fashion sense. (I understand there are a lot of inconsistencies up there, just roll with it...) -
As of this moment, there are currently three votes for Bondsmith. All vacancies have been filled (in this universe)! It was a tough call between Lightweaver and Bondsmith for me. I just ran through the coppermind entries to refresh my memory regarding what we know of each Order at present. While something I'm very attracted to with regard to Lightweaving is something that Shallan at least does (she's helped a few people to reinvent themselves with the help of her lightweaving to be better people (as she sees)), I realized that this part of me yearns more toward bringing people together. People being "better" individuals isn't necessary for unity, but often times those go hand in hand. And at the heart of me, I more want people to be brought together. If that part of my personality has any say, I'd probably be a Bondsmith before any other Order based on what we know now.

Warbreaker movie casting (dream list) *spoilers*
traceria replied to BreathTaker's topic in Warbreaker
I like a lot of your other suggestions, though. (Sorry for the double post...was still looking through all the links and things when I posted last.) The only other suggestion I'm kind of "eh" on is Denth. For some reason, I see Denth coming off as less creep and more practical (in his sarcastic way). I have no idea why, but that's my impression. *shrug *- 99 replies

Your 'Most perfect scene' from a book you've read
traceria replied to Shardlet's topic in General Discussion
My husband had read it before, and he told me after my experience with the ending that he'd just been hovering nearby the closer I got to the end of the book, waiting to see my reaction. Truly masterful, as you said. -
Even if this wasn't your normal approach, I think you'd still have a hard time putting down Skin Game. SO GOOD.

Favourite Obscure/Side Characters in the Cosmere
traceria replied to Iredomi's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Yeah, same here. My heart hurt. In addition to some of the others mentioned above, I kinda loved Ashe, Sarene's Seon, too. -
"...he made better time on spike." I don't know what it is about that line, but it makes me laugh! Also, Phantom Bowling should become a thing.

Ugh. Denna. She reminds me of this one vile girl I knew in college. I just don't like her type. My husband and I have had long conversations about what it is specifically that just rubs me the wrong way. Many things. Many things... Kvothe, you could do so much better. You all have also hit some of the others, but I'm surprised no one has mentioned Min from WoT yet. (EDIT: Sorry, maxal, I just saw you mentioned her!) My other additions: - Blood Song (Anthony Ryan): The king and his daughter, whose names I can't remember off the top of my head. I dislike them because they're despicable people. At least, I think the daughter is. She's kind of a question mark at times. The king, though? Nasty dude. - LotR - Denethor. How dare he do that to my Faramir!! - Runelords (David Farland) - Raj Ahten. I only made it through the end of book two and Raj Ahten did something so horrible that I couldn't bring myself to continue the series with book three. That's pretty bad.

I do that, too, if it's THE book in my life at the moment. Then it trumps all the other ones littered around my house/car/work desk that might have made me stray. Um...by the way...is your username a reference to what I think it is?!?! And nice userpic, too!

Tea! TEA! Yay! While I do also drink coffee, I LOVE me a good cup of tea. I will drink just about anything except I'm not a fan of oolong or white. I also don't go in for super fruity types unless you're talking iced tea. I'm totally in and from the states and grew up in Maryland, so even though I lived in the northern part, we had enough transplants from the southern part and states farther south that I love a good glass of sweet tea. My grandmother makes a nice pitcher and so does her neighbor, who has quite an accent. As to hot tea, my favorites tend to be the following (loose leaf preferred): green tea (my favorites are the kukicha and hojicha teas from adagio.com), Earl Grey, Irish Breakfast, this rooibos/mate blend I got once from Teavana and try to keep in my stock, and anything flavored vanilla. But as I said, I'll try almost anything. I do like a good mint tea of one fashion or another, but usually I reserve that for when I'm not feeling 100% normal, like with a cold or allergies or if my stomach is off. Additives? Honey for green tea, mint or herbal tea, sugar (of the sucanat variety) in anything else plus milk in any of the black teas mentioned above if it's available. Mug size? A fairly large mug, but not large enough to double as a soup bowl. Also, if anyone wants a great scone recipe, just ask.

Sometimes I miss school, and sometimes I'm just glad the buses aren't on the road anymore during my morning commute. (I feel so old...)

traceria replied to Shardlet's topic in General Discussion
dreamingofcheese - Upvote for Odd Thomas (and me not even remembering that)!! Man, a whole box of tissues and several months later I was finally able to read the second book! -
"He didn't remember ever feeling the story didn't make sense." This comes from the story "My Heart is Either Broken" in the Dangerous Women collection edited by G.R.R. Martin and Gardner Dozois. If this can be relied upon, either something in my life doesn't add up/I'm harboring some shady secret or I'm just a generally confused/dense individual.

In total agreement about Sazed, Dalinar and Lirin! But let's not forget Grandfathers!! How awesome a granddad is Grandpa Smedry, right?! Not only is he an exciting guy to be around, but you know he'll be around for a long, long time given his Talent. You just have to take the always late for birthdays/other holidays as part of his charm. Sadly, his son could have learned a thing or two about fatherhood...

Or when you go to that Friendly Local Gaming Store and preach about the awesomeness of Sanderson to all the uninformed gamers.
