  1. Thanks! I'm glad you made your way to the 17th Shard. I was super active back around when WoR released, but then life happened and I actually had to stop myself from coming onto the site because I had been spending way too much time on here. I know that there are going to be far too many secrets to discuss in Oathbringer though, so there's no fighting the pull.
  2. Hey everyone! It's been quite a long time since I've been on the forums. I popped my head in briefly to talk about Calamity, but other than that I've been AWOL for a few years now. Anyways, I know that I'm going to get roped back in as soon as Oathbringer drops, so I thought I'd make my way back to the 17thShard a little earlier and get reacquainted with everyone, as well as update everyone as to what I've been up to over the past few years. While mostly I've been sticking to work, I've got a few exciting things I'd like to share with you guys. First off, I went to Gen Con last weekend and got to play Magic with get absolutely destroyed in a magic draft playing two headed giant with my brother against Brandon and Steve Argyle. In fact, Brandon beat us up so bad he ended up tweeting about it! https://twitter.com/BrandSanderson/status/898395191576416260 I also ended up finding a picture of our game on Steve Argyle's fb page! (I also may have taken a bunch of creeper selfies as Brandon played rock paper scissors over my shoulder. Maybe.) I've also been working on a book on and off for the past two years. It is my plan to get the first draft finished by the end of the year, earlier if possible. I look forward to sharing more details with you guys in the future! Finally, I wanted to share an upcoming project that I'm hoping to release in the next few months. I've gotten a group together and we plan on playing a recording an epic Mistborn Adventure Game campaign and releasing it as a podcast! As of right now, the running title is "Lost Legends of Scadrial" and it will take place in the years following the Catacendre. I don't want to say too much about this just yet, but I'm incredibly excited for the story I've crafted and I can't wait to share with everyone. That's the major things that have been going on since I've been gone. In the next few weeks I plan on getting back in the habit of interacting on here, and I also plan on going back and reviving my "Monster Melee" threads, as I had a lot of fun with those. Looking forward to talking with everyone again! It's good to be home.
  3. I have to agree with the general consensus-this is the first BS book that disappointed me. One thing I loved about the series so far is the rich world that was created by the unique changes to each of the major cities, and that was tremendously lacking in this book. The basic premise of it moving and regrowing in itself at first seemed great, but as the book went on and we didn't really learn anything about what it does for the city culturally or what makes them a distinct people really made that seem like a copout. All in all it just felt rushed, like he wanted to wrap up the series and be done. Not that I begrudge Brandon that, as he's stated he's willing to push through on other books that aren't SA. I'm confused as to why Prof wasn't cured in Steelheart. He faced his fears using his power to save David and Megan and again during the fight with Steelheart. That seems like a major plothole. I feel vindicated in my assessment of Obliteration. He was technically a' sane epic', one of the first to confront his fear and weaknesses to fight the darkness. It's too bad he turned out to be a psychopath. I really wish that the book had ended on David blowing up the bomb. It felt like a Disney movie from there on out. The Larcener twist was unexpected, but more because I feel it wasn't foreshadowed all that well. I'm glad that Bands of Mourning was so good and released so close to Calamity, or I would be very disappointed. I'm still happy with the series as a whole, but Calamity was definitely much weaker than its predecessors.
  4. My first thought was also Parshendi.
  5. Prof fears a student being smarter than him. David's metaphors really make Prof feel better about their student teacher dynamic.
  6. How about a game of minesweeper, but once you've found all the mines, you have to guess which one is actually a potato? After you win a game, you go buy a lottery ticket because obviously you're a ta'veren.
  7. Welcome to the forums! Here's my explanation for the events. 1. Due to the nature of her powers, she doesn't have to know where David is. I like to think of her powerset as part reality shifting as she explains, and part probability control. Her resurrection didn't necessarily have to be in the right spot right away, if she got it wrong, she just alters the universe so that she wound up on the same roof as David. 2. You're seeing her appear there on the roof after she died. That's her resurrection there on the roof. As I explain above, this isn't necessarily exact precision of her resurrection site, but rather her changing the area she's appearing at using her powers until she appeared on the roof with David. 3. She explains earlier in the book that her powers are most effective when she first resurrects, and as such, it's easier for her to alter things in a much grander fashion, which is how she is able to change the building they were standing on.
  8. GLaDOS and Instabam, arch enemies, or unstoppable diabolical team?
  9. What good are GMOs if you can't grow a cookie tree?
  10. Could you reference the first movie before you rest your case? For my sanity if nothing else?
  11. I see him more as Diamond.
  12. I think we can figure out exactly what happened at Prof's school. Instabam was there, but didn't know he was an epic yet. That's when some unfortunate wretch started a food fight...
  13. New Headcannon: Megan joined the Reckoners after a one night stand with Fortuity in which he promised her the world and never even called her again. Steelheart, being a protective father figure to her, gave her permission to join the Reckoners and assassinate him, because even Steelheart hates living with the reputation people like that give his gender.
  14. The Sons of Honor could be far more competent than your giving credit for. Gavilar did have the ominous black sphere and at least has a passing connection to the Sons of Honor.
  15. Deaths on the battlefield aren't illegal, whereas assassination is. I assume that the collateral damage to the soldiers was just a means of making it look more like a battle and less like an outside attempt on Amaram's life.
  16. The Sons of Honor are attempting to start a desolation, which is exactly what Nale is trying to prevent. That's motivation enough, considering he killed surgebinders who don't even know they might cause a desolation.
  17. This is assuming that there are laws against such conspiracies. We don't know much about the Sons of Honor, or what crimes Amaram may or may not have committed prior to the Helaran incident. He seems very much like a mastermind type character who never got his own hands dirty. Without the proper law to finger him, he can perpetrate crime without ever committing illegal acts himself, which would necessitate the battle assassination plot to avoid breaking laws themselves, but still achieve their goal.
  18. Watch your language you Slontze!
  19. Well, Dawnslight is pretty much stuck in New York, and Conflux is heavily committed to keeping Newcago running, so I doubt they'll be able to influence much in the next book, as it's set in Atlanta. We've seen the kind of damage that Prof can do to one of the mech suits anyways, so even if Conflux was to get involved, his powers would only be useful for surpressing a regular population like Steelheart used him for. At least for the powers we've seen onscreen and have been informed of. Megan will be absolutely instrumental to keep David alive, and David is sure to be the key to everything.
  20. Must....resist....urge to down vote...yet....my local culture....must be defended....ahhhh
  21. I definitely agree poker is a game of skill more than luck, but it is very much a game of luck as well. I have a friend who every time we play Texas hold 'em makes the worst calls but still wins on the turn. Skill plays into it, but there still is the luck of the cards.
  22. That's why Megan is an Epic, and David is mortal. The grammatically challenged shall face judgment!
  23. There is no other casting options for Deathpoint than Jason Segal. He could steel (Hee Hee) the whole movie with that scene.
  24. "Follow follow follow follow follow the water slick road!"
  25. Do we know if Brandon required an open casting call like he did with Mistborn?
