Swift was a pretty strong contender for the Democratic nod, but his modest proposal to eat all the children in Ireland has made him unpopular with certain periphery demographics.

Still Having a Bad Day? Exchange Your Rants For Hugs Here!
Kobold King replied to Silverblade5's topic in General Discussion
I like America! I just think it'd be better if it were more of a general continent instead of a country. That's all. But since we ruined Columbus for you, why don't we talk about the real discoverer of North America... Leif Erikspug! -

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but Christopher Columbus orchestrated the systematic enslavement of the Arawak people he discovered while acting as governor of Hispaniola. His atrocities include literally working enslaved Indians to death in his mines and organizing the first trans-Atlantic sexual slavery ring in history. -
Shhh, I was keeping that as my secret weapon! The Inquisition would never know what him 'em. Do you wanna play Donna, Mistrunner? You have the profile pic for it.

Awesome! And good night. I'll submit the first character profile. The Doctor Name: Appearance: Powers and Abilities: (Also advanced knowledge of technology, extraordinarily fast thinking, regeneration, and a tiny touch of telepathy. )

Minor Heaven Sent spoilers: Anyway, bendalloy's pretty much unknown prior to the Alloy of Law era, but Harmony didn't change Allomantic principles by that much. I think it's plausible for there to be the occasional Slider or Pulser scattered around the Empire--noble houses and thieving crews probably keep them a secret when they gain access to them, if only to keep them as a secret weapon.

Never done a fluff RP before. Usually it's all homicidal necromancers and flying murderous sleaze bags. Explain the general concept of a fluff RP.

We'll need people to start submitting character profiles. Just basic info on the characters--powers and abilities, names, social statuses, that sort of thing. Will the Doctor have gotten into the Cosmere by accident or on purpose?

It's a complex statement about the ultimate failure of reductionism and what it means to be a good pug. Honestly I'd need a degree to understand even half of it.

Still Having a Bad Day? Exchange Your Rants For Hugs Here!

I'm currently living on a stretch of land called the Apacheria after the tribe of natives my ancestors stamped out a hundred years ago. Cultural guilt's on every continent except Antarctica, and that's only because we haven't figured out a way to exploit penguins yet. -
Thanks!

Those sound cool. Is Resool a Feruchemist? I'll try to formulate a backup character plan in case someone else seizes the Doctor out from in front of me.

Must have to do with where we grew up. Any American can tell you what the Trail of Tears was, but I'd never heard of the Stolen Generations until just a couple of months ago. I didn't know the name used for it until today. -

You don't know? I am so, so sorry, but here's the Wikipedia link. EDIT: ninja'd by Twi, who was substantially less lazy than I was. -
Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
Kobold King replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Granted, but you become the protagonist of a Brandon Sanderson novel. Before you say "Awesome!", take a moment to think about what he puts his main characters through... I could really use an ice cream sundae right now. Make it happen, Nightwatcher. -

Pretty much this. Not to mention the fact that a lot of reservations aren't even remotely close to where the tribe originally lived--for instance, my great grandmother was part Cherokee. The Cherokee lived on the east coast of the United States, but one of the biggest reservations for them is in Oklahoma where they were relocated during the Trail of Tears. Oklahoma has a radically different climate and ecology than the Cherokee homelands, presumably making the traditional ways of Cherokee living impossible even if they weren't restricted to a much smaller region than they were pre-Trail of Tears. -

To add further to the horribleness of it all: for all western society talks now about having advanced beyond this, for all the governments of the world repent and apologize for destroying traditional cultures, those cultures are still not allowed to live as they traditionally did any more. I have in my ancestry people who raised their children in huts and hunted deer with bows and arrows in the forests their own ancestors had grown up in. If I hatched a family and tried to raise my own kids out in nature in such a way, I'd either be arrested for hunting/fishing without a license, arrested for violating a property law somewhere along the line, or I'd have CPS take my children for being in an "unsafe" environment. (By which they really mean "not compliant with superior Westerner dwelling design.") Western civilization steamrolled over the native cultures they came across, and it's not even possible to revive those cultures because Western laws will have you locked away to rot in a cell for not living in a suitably Western manner. I'm with Elbereth. Let's find ourselves a genie and banish medieval Europe into an alternate dimension. -
You might want to start a whole new thread for it. Lots of people have threads for their projects on the Creator's Corner.

Darn it humanity. This is why none of the aliens in the galaxy want to talk to you. This is why you don't have any friends. You're the weird kid who sits around muttering about killing things while pulling the legs of grasshoppers. -

Just once, just once, I want to hear about a native culture that existed in peace with European settlers for hundreds of years of harmony. Just once. Is that so much to ask, humanity? That you be capable of living with different-colored humans for a few measly centuries without brutally murdering each other? Sigh. Thanks for the book recommendation. -

When you're cold, wet, and depressed is not the time to watch video testimonies about the Stolen Generations of the Australian Aboriginals. Storming colonial racists. Think that just because your lot was the first to figure out how to kill other people with tiny pellets of metal and smallpox you're so much better than everyone else... -
Spoilers for off-topicness. Anyway, back on topic. I see your points, little wilson, though I don't trust government to remain objective and rational enough to enact proper justice as much as you do. In any case, I'm only glad to see that the next Cap movie is apparently immersed in so many shades of grey that it's already split the fandom joyously in twain. Nobody argued in favor of the Red Skull or HYDRA--it'll be fascinating to see a Marvel movie with enough grey in it to lead to such fascinating moral debates.

On the other hand--what happens if a war starts and the government institutes a draft, like it did as recently as the Vietnam War? Things haven't changed so much since then that it couldn't happen again, and if the government had a list of all superpowered folk, you can bet they'll be going after every Enhanced they can find and forcing them into battle. You don't need a registration of all superhumans in order to carry out justice. There's not a government on this planet I would trust with such a list--bear in mind that not too long ago in this very universe, HYDRA of all entities was in complete control of the government, and nobody raised an eyebrow at their policies until Cap came along. As for Bucky, well, there should be an investigation into the extent of his brainwashing and to what degree he carried out his crimes of his own free will. This is the same universe with objects like the Mind Stone--brainwashing and mind control are parts of the world now, and laws might need to be adjusted to take them into account.
