Ooh, that's an interesting thought. Do we have any newcomers to Oregon who have used the phrase? What kind of chess would that imply?

Excellent! Allow me to introduce my new Epic, The Hippopotamus Dropper. He'll be coming to Portland soon, and just happens to hold a grudge against Electro. Maybe Backtrack advised them on the city's past? For a retrocog he's woefully inept at history. What Happened in Salem is going to be swimming in irony.

Can Electro die when a hippopotamus sits on him? I don't know how this situation could be arranged, but I think it'd be fitting for him. Out of curiosity, are pugs anything like chihuahuas, forging their closest bonds with one individual person / fellow dog? Or do they share their love around those around them equally? Different Salem, I think. With Regalia's behavior in Firefight, I wonder if there are any Epics who would raise a child to become their heirs. We'd better hope Epics can't pass on their powers, or else the Fractured States could be looking forward to millennium-long dynasties in its future.

Your fingers? What about my retinas, mail-mi? WHAT ABOUT MY RETINAS? Oh, it's not on a regular basis. If I had to deal with that sort of thing every day there's a real possibility that I'd be flipping burgers at the local McDonald's. My only daily hardships are trying to convince the goat to go out to her grazing chain and racing egg-eating chickens to the nest boxes.

When I was about thirteen we had a young heifer about twice my size who was extremely rambunctious. A couple of times she actually managed to knock me over when I was carrying buckets of water out to her trough. Also, for years I tended to keep my chin pinned to the rest of my body when idle, because when I was somewhere around five a cockroach crawled on my neck and traumatized me. If Deathwish had gone to Portland instead of The Dalles, he'd probably be trying to hang out with the Trifecta during their rampages. (For my own piece of mind I choose to believe that the infamous "game" scene was the only time Timeport, Electro, or Quota showed any kind of interest in women. Any other possibilities, plausible though they may be, are simply too dreadful to contemplate. )

I have a confession to make... I am also scared of cows. Just a little bit, at least. Also, chicken bites can hurt. All known exceptions have been transferred directly to the "And Then They Died" list. Except for maybe Deathwish, though he would have gotten himself onto the list already if he were allowed to.

I too have an author avatar! ...his name is Backtrack. That's probably wise. Epics taking interest in vanilla women hasn't occurred often in the RP, with a few notable exceptions.

Sadly, yes. Fortuity always had pretty vanilla women flanking him, and David's remarks in Firefight indicate that Epics taking vanilla consorts was not uncommon.

I'm pretty sure they'd just be considered mutants. The only way I could see them being considered a separate species would be if they're capable of reproducing with each other but not normal humans, and we've heard no indication of this.

Not yet. But if you ever have cause to describe Astoria's dungeons, feel free to write me into them. There are plenty of old people who are bitter and fearful about the rest of the world. Sad, but true. Regalia's the one canon example I can think of, but we really haven't been exposed to many Epics so far.

Oh, it still is. It's just more symbolic now. Self-insertion? You mean, like people creating self-insert characters or Mary Sues? We haven't had any of that, Dawnslight be thanked.

I'm going to listen to this remix of a MLP season 5 song whenever I read Corvallis posts from now on. I don't know if it's the faintly ominous tune, the creepier of the lyrics, or Starlight Glimmer's voice... but somehow, this song just fits.

Clearly they're the people who used to write extremely in-depth Wikipedia articles about superheroes before Calamity. It turns out the ability to categorize and compare different power sets does have a practical application after the apocalypse.

"I don't really follow your logic, Dewhickey. Why should we exile Autumn Glass?" "She's a destabilizing influence on our town's infrastructure, commander! I can promise you that we will not survive our next invasion if she remains in town creating those, those travesties!" "...She made that bacon Oreo recipe she's been talking about, hasn't she?"

Nighthound would be a logical choice. Though not even Neverthere deserves to be in his "care" for long enough to bring her to Lightwards. I don't suppose she calls it the Nevermobile, by any chance?

I'd hate to start a trend of Backtrack using his powers in legitimately useful ways, but this sounds like a solid, feasible way for a Backtrack / Neverthere hunt to go down. I'm assuming Neverthere has a car or some other type of transportation around her house, so she doesn't have to randomly flee into the city barefoot every time somebody comes too close?

Theoretically, how plausible would it be for Backtrack to be able to use his retrocognition to figure out precisely where she laid the bombs and how to circumvent them?

He might send someone like Fade or Parity to go along with him. I get the feeling that Neverthere could take Backtrack in a straight fight, and if you give Backtrack a gun he'd just end up shooting himself in the foot.

For his part Lightwards will resurrect Numnums--whose name he will vehemently protest--and encourage them to rampage across the city and cause as many fatalities as they can together. There's a solid possibility that when Backtrack gets back from The Dalles he'll be tasked with tracking down her real location, capturing her, and hauling her to Lightwards so he can control her more effectively. How that would work out is anyone's guess.

Not that I can recall. I'm pretty sure we just decided to write them both in character and see what happens, the way all great alliances and enmities are made.

"Rare steak. Salads are for hippies. And don't even think about bringing that pumpkin donut in here, Autumn." Yep, I use Paint. Microsoft Paint makes it very easy to add speech and thought balloons, and it's a very simple matter to size text to fit the balloons perfectly.
