      Aha! But THIS hero is a lovable antihero who has been drinking since he was 16, reasoning that it's the legal age in Germany and it should be the legal age here in the US! I...don't know how it'll help him defeat your deathbots, though.

    You definitely succeeded. Will she stay depressive for a while after this, or is she going to bounce right back into whimsy mode? If you need me, I'll be listening to "Happy" on repeat.

    I agree with mail-mi. If Chess hadn't started the fight, it would have been way overboard. But couple the fact that he attacked first and the misapprehension Funtimes was under and it works fine. Avoid having her kill vanillas if you want to keep her off the ATTD list, though.

    This is the first time the death of a minor Epic has made me want to cry. If Chess hadn't been the original aggressor in this fight, this would have been a Moral Event Horizon.

    I thought that Firefight wasn't as good as Steelheart, but reading theories and analyses about it, and talking about it relentlessly with my fellow fans, ultimately twisted my opinion around. Now it's one of my favorite Sanderson books, surpassing even Words of Radiance in terms of my appreciation.

    Just a random thought that occurred to me. Readers of the Reckoners books may have noticed that the series is written as a first-person narrative, like most of Brandon's non-Cosmere works. It's told as if David Charleston were telling us the full story of how he joined the Reckoners and battled Epics with nothing but his guns, wits, and bad metaphors. What I wonder about is whether Steelheart, Firefight, and the forthcoming Calamity will one day exist in-universe as accounts written by the legendary Steelslayer. It seems likely that with the massive events and revelations the books cover, somebody will need to enlighten the Fractured States' citizens on the true nature of Epics and the circumstances that led their world's salvation. Could it be that the novels we're now enjoying will be the firsthand historical accounts of David Charleston?

    He's alive! He hasn't come home yet, but we spotted him prowling around in the cacti on the fringes of our property. We're hopeful he'll get hungry to come back to the house soon. Thanks for the sympathy, guys! You're all awesome.

    The stray kitten we took in, named Bliss, is missing. He's been spending nights outside, which we don't try to prevent because we don't want him to feel trapped... most mornings he's waiting by the door for us, but this morning he's nowhere to be seen. I've been praying like crazy, but I can't shake off this sickly feeling of anxiety.
